Celiac review! PARKING AND ACCESSIBILITY Parking is easy in a private (shared) lot. It is accessible but no automated doors. The bathroom, technically accessible (single room bathrooms), isn't great depending on the disability. One grab bar on the wall next to the sink, the toilet is high up and so is the sink. No surfaces to put items on, no hooks. SERVICE AND VIBES Every staff member here was friendly and accommodating. The music isn't too loud. Our server Athena was really sweet and gave us recommendations for activities around town. THE GLUTEN FREE EXPERIENCE I had to ask for a gluten free menu, which was separate. So many options! And the menu lists the ingredients of all their gluten-free bread substitutes. They're using Udi's for sandwich and burger buns and schar for English muffins, pizza crust, and pasta. When they take your order, make sure you explicitly tell them you're ordering from the gluten free menu, as several items are identical to the regular menu. If you have an allergy or celiac disease, ask them to note that. They have a button on their handheld device for celiac disease (and other allergies). When they set down my sandwich they said "this is the gluten free sandwich". Mine came with a sealed bag of cape cod chips (as opposed to the house made potato chips). The bread is how udi's is. So glad to come back to Bakers crust after a long hiatus. A friend invited me to join her and another Yelp Elite for a Galentines dinner. The Galentine's menu contained a drink, two choices for food and a dessert I went with a cold brew martini, the sliders, the fries, and a raspberry cheesecake. Everything was fantastic. Three of us going to the Josh Groban show decide to go to Bakers Crust for a bite around 5ish Sunday. Service was great and I cannot remember for the life of me our servers name. Extremely knowledgeable of menu. Assisted with our decision, 2 had the lemon almond pesto salmon on orzo with grilled asparagus. It was so delicious. My first time having pesto. I wanted more however I chose half turkey sandwich and ceasar salad. Good thing I displayed fairly good manners, ate my own and just a couple bites of the delicious salmon my friend reluctantly shared. I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of members of service teams constantly stopping by the table, but I know some folks really like this, so I don't get too out of sorts about this. I'll say I thought service at the bar could have been a bit better. In my opinion, I thought the bartender was a bit distracted by other folks eating and drinking at the bar because it took us about 5 minutes just to get his attention and 15 minutes to get our drinks. Other than that very minor blip, the staff was pretty on point. Food prices were pretty decent compared to other similar restaurants in the area. Had a great lunch here today. Sat promptly with two small kiddos and good service. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. The staff in general seemed very friendly and helpful. The food and drinks we had were awesome. My SIL ordered a Bloody Mary and she said it was fantastic and she got the grinder with the homemade Parmesan chips which were a nice change from the normal fries or chips. I had the shrimp and crab pasta which was amazing. The bacon was a tad overdone but not terrible and didn't ruin the dish. The service was good. My waiter didn't hover over me but he made sure to check up on me at least once both before and after the food arrived. The restaurant has a cozy feel to it and was moderately packed. The clientele is about 70/30 70% old and 30% young. I think this explains why my food was kind of bland. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. I had a Benedict with fired chicken and bacon. The side potatoes were perfectly crisped and seasoned. The bacon on the Benedict was just a touch soft and the fried chicken was more like breaded baked chicken that lacked seasoning. I would not be surprised if they cater their food more towards their older clientele who happen to be the majority. Bakers Crust is always tasty and the service is great. I think they have one of the best cheeseburgers in Hampton Roads. This time I tried their Asiago Chicken with Asparagus and Risotto and it was almost perfect. If they had only cooked it just 3 minutes longer it would have been. The chicken was just at the point of being a little chewy and the asparagus was just a little too crunchy. I know it needed 3 more minutes because, prior to dinner, my friends and I indulged in loaded parmesan chips and artichoke/spinach dip. Consequently, I was forced to take half of my dinner home. I did not get to see the display case as pictured on the other reviews so I had to guess abut everything. In terms of prices, I would say that they are on the higher side ( paid $11.99 for a SLICE if carrot cake) and I almost had and $80 bag. Pleasant surprise! Last minute lunch option due to my flight being delayed. Welcoming staff quickly sat us- party of 3- and service staff was prompt. Came back again after a while and gave some lunch items a try with the same friend. She got the roasted mozzarella and tomato panini and I got the Calabrian chicken Alfredo. Tha panini was very small and had the smallest two slices of tomato possible. It was mostly bread and lettuce. She stated at the greenbrier location it was infinitely better and more filling but she did like the soup. My pasta had potential but it came out barely warm and the chicken had a questionable texture. There was definitely spice but a lack of overall seasoning, this was a new menu item so I'd say it may need tiny more work but the potential is there. If I return, I may try the pizza. I was sincerely hoping for a better experience with the food the next time around but maybe we just had a one off both times?
