I want to love this place. The pastries are great and it's adorable, but the service is so rude I just cannot bring myself to go anymore.

On a recent visit I asked for cream with my coffee. I quickly received a look from the woman behind the counter as if I had a tumor on my face. I was told they only have regular milk. How could a bakery only have regular milk? Lame. Never going back.. read more

Came in on a very cold and rainy day for some two coffees and a bathroom stop on our walk to Artists & Fleas... It was very unclear who was interested in taking my order and once I'd handed over my card I was notified of a $10 minimum (not posted anywhere). Luckily I had cash... By the time I asked where the restroom was it was as if my very existence was an inconvenience to them even though there were about four guests total. I had spent my morning at Manny's in BedStuy and will stick with that despite my intent to return to Williamsburg the next few mornings. read more

It took me almost 18 months after moving to the neighborhood to give this place a try, it seemed too twee from the outside. Don't make the same mistake I did. The bread here is superlative. The focacia is my personal favorite, but all the breads I have tried have been great. Also... the lavender short bread cookie is amazing. It is great to have such a great place for fresh bread within walking distance. I am pretty surprised by the reviewer who alleged that the staff was rude to her because she didn't tip in the tip jar. after trying and failing to sell some clothes at beacon's, i needed a pick me up and finally got to stop in this cute and quaint spot. it gets a star just for their cute garden and atmosphere! tea was in a huge big latte cup and the zucchini bread was pretty moist and tasty. had a great selection of breads too. read more

Bakeri is a beautiful space. The coffee (counter culture) is the best in the neighborhood for cappuccinos (avoid the lattes--they come in giant bowls full of milk), and I have yet to have a pastry that is anything but exceptional. They also offer small, but incredibly executed sandwiches and spreads (acme's whitefish, chicken liver pate). Everything is made on premises, and you never feel like it's been sitting out forever. The counter service makes for a really relaxed experience (you can have a coffee and to-die-for mini croissant while your friend has full savory lunch), and you can choose to sit in the cozy cafe or out back in the quiet garden area. The service is friendly and prompt, so just because it's not table service doesn't mean you shouldn't tip! Only warning: this place is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I don't mind because I think every element of the place is perfect, but this is a once a week, or once every two weeks spot, not your daily fix. read more

this is hands down my favourite coffee shop on the planet- i'm lucky enough to live less than a block away too. lucky me. the focaccia never disappoints, raspberry pistacio muffins, brown sugar cake, pre-made vegetable sandwich, lattes, and soups are the winners for me. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received. My brother and I went in for a quick cup of coffee, and the server ignored us for five minutes, while nothing else was going on. She then took another customer's order behind us. My brother tried to order after him. She rolled her eyes and snapped at us that she was busy. Sadly, neither of us will be patrons here again. read more

Their coffee is excellent, lovely pastries and very charming decor. However, I won't be back here after today's lunch. The service was horrendous (rude, gruff, curt, annoyed at every question) and worse, we ordered a white fish salad which cost $10 each and was nothing more than a ball of watercress the size of a golf ball, and two pieces of un toasted bread spread with a thin layer of smoked fish spread. And it was missing the cornichons that were supposedly with it. The place was dirty today, we had to ask twice if the tables outside could be bused so that we could sit down instead of hovering on top of other people or blocking the counter. I simply cannot tolerate bad service for these prices anymore in my neighborhood. read more

This place is really cute and the food is great. It's a block away from my house so it's very convenient. The problem is the staff. I've been coming to this place since it opened and I rarely get a hello. They act as if hey have never seen me before and they are always very rude. It's a shame because I would love to come more often but since they are not welcoming I walk two blocks over to Toby's which is also great and the staff is way friendlier. read more

Cash only! It's a tiny Bakeri that serves tasty treats, including panini's, baguettes, as well as sweeter offerings. I had a baguette and a pelegrino, and it was over $10. The baguette (with Jamon) was delicious, but I could have used 3 or 4 more to feel full. The price for quantity of goods ratio is a little off, but their quality of food is very good. read more

The main problem with this place is that its tiny if you're trying to have a snack while actually there--but the selections, though alternating and usually limited, are generally all great. Its probably a little overpriced but nothing egregious for the neighborhood. They have a nice breakfast sandwich until 4pm, some inspired, interesting and delicious pastries, and really good bread. If you want to stash a few unplanned goodies in the fridge this is a nice place to get them. read more

Cute little French bakery with an adorable back patio. We are not coffee drinkers, but enjoyed the hot chocolate. There's a definite Euro vibe - many people were eating a baguette with butter and jam - but we enjoyed the mini croissants and the pumpkin loaf. Three-and-a-half stars. I possess a problematic predilection for baked goods in all their delightful forms - is there anything better than the smell of freshly baked items emanating from a warm bakery on a winter's morn? I thought not. Bakeri, with all its charm, is certainly inviting and it feels as though one is being transported into someone's rustic kitchen to partake of the treats on display. That said, I have never sat down to eat anything at the place, for I like to reserve the shame of my indulgences to the comfort of my own apartment or to surreptitious consumption on neighboring side streets - my hand reaching into the brown paper bag to grab this, that and the other in order to protect them from my housemate's prying hands. Though utterly endearing, as a bakery I feel that it falls short in a few areas. The selection, for example, feels limited. That is not to say that the items which are on offer are not lovely, but how many times can a man be forced to eat an orange brioche, a relatively small selection of cookies, a couple of galettes, or the notoriously tiny croissants? When comparing bakeries, I often set the benchmark at an establishment like Silvermoon Bakery on the Upper West Side and, upon doing so, one realizes that Bakeri possesses slightly more charm than baked-good content, which is a shame for the products they do produce are of a good standard. Some of the items, however, are rather expensive for what you are getting (as noted by a previous reviewer, unless you seek a literal bite of a croissant, best you steer clear of their croissant selection, though the almond croissant is truly delicious). However, this area is not exactly known for being economical and when confronted with the eternal quandary of whether to gauge, or not to gauge, most establishments appear to favor the former course of action. Furthermore, while the staff are generally friendly and helpful, during busier periods they can be a bit curt, which seems to be at variance with the old-world charm that the place generally exudes. Conclusion: Bakeri provides a warm and comfortable setting for grabbing a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. With this, it is a good alternative to the laptop-laden coffee shops on Bedford where conversations seem to be stifled by the dirty looks from industrious coffee drinkers. Their selection of bread and baked goods tends to err on the paltry side of the spectrum, but the items on display are of a high standard and make for an enjoyable snack at any point in the day (I should really make the shift to healthier snacks). read more

Yeeees. Baguette perfectly crusty and chewy. Banana loaf just sweet enough and full of banana/cinnamon flavor. Pain au chocolate was about the size of two fingers but still delicious. What a lovely little shop. Will return to try everything eventually. read more

I'm just starting to be a regular at bakeri even though I've been a long time w'burg resident. They have fantastic baked goods for the am/afternoon, the baguette is better than the Balthazar baguette at the whole foods and Amy's baguette at the annoying local cheese shop. We enjoy their lunch items, too. And, to top it off, the women in bakeri are kind - they have no problem bringing me out a baguette when I have my small Pomeranian in tow. read more

stumbled across this place in search of an espresso. walked in and was very upset i didnt know about this place earlier. AMAZING!! one of the better espresso I've had. I feel lucky that a friend suggested meeting at Bakeri. She got caught on the L train due to a track fire (which "never happens") so I ordered my Americano (a large came in a bowl, quickly making me feel like a child sipping milk after cereal, super gratifying and so tasty) got cozy, and couldn't help but sort of study the lovely women dawning blue aprons who were all so intent at their tasks. This place feels... intentional. And soulful. The ambiance is crisp, yet, comforting. There is a yard/garden in the back, as well, if you'd prefer to be outside. Once my friend arrived I was ready for a nibble and was suggested skolebrod, as it is one of the more authentically Scandinavian items on the menu. It was delicious. Bakeri makes me wish I lived in New York so that I could explore their menu more, and try one, if not all, of their cakes. Seriously, look at their cakes... Job well done, to whoever created this place. It is full of beauty. read more

Love love this place. Consistent quality, always fabulous! The place is small and not always easy to find seating, but the quality of the food explains why! I love coming here and having the mocha (they make their own paste with chocolate rosemary deliciousness). It is my favorite weekend treat. The avocado bread is delicious!! One of my favorite cafes in the hood, or perhaps the best! The lavender shortbread tastes like heaven, so buttery and fluffy! The baguette and carrot cake are also delicious! In a hood with the highest coffee shop to residents ratio in the city, Bakeri is head and shoulders above the rest. The variety of delicious baked goods is astounding, especially for a small neighborhood joint and the baguettes are brilliant, especially as they come hot out of the oven several times a day.
