I found it a bit overpriced and underwhelming, but I really loved the atmosphere! Very Brooklyn vibes, with succulents all over the place. There was a good amount of seating, and a lot of organic and homemade choice for food. Overall, nothing too fancy or anything to go out of the way for, but a nice cafe if you're in the area. read more

Bake Shop - Bakeries Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

My belongings were stolen in the Bake Shop. I left a note for the owner asking to help me report the theft by reviewing their security footage, and have not heard back. I inquired with a staff person today who said the owner has the note and might not respond. I thought that was disappointing for such a great establishment that I've enjoyed over the years. I was hoping the staff and owner would be nice and helpful in trying to stop theft. read more

I'll need to go back and try the cake but yesterday I went in to check this place out and the vibe was good but the potato mushroom empanada was horrible. It wasn't an empanada honestly because it was so bread-y and the filling was overly salted. It ate more but a doughy sandwich. For $8.50 I expect a real empanada. Not good. read more

Extremely loud music. So much that my friend and I couldn't have a normal conversation. Business opened 15 minutes late. Counter people gave off the vibe like they could have cared less if people even came in. I would not recommend going here. read more

Waste of 4$ plus tax. Saw this place walking by and thought "oh look, a trendy hipster coffee shop" so I thought it looked cool but when I walked in and started to look around, the cashier tried to rush me out and looked nervous that I was in there like I was about to rob the place! maybe because I'm Hispanic and have a beard? She got scared?. But I am a chef and was asking polite simple questions so I couldn't understand why. So I started to ask about some food they had displayed and the girl didn't seem like she wanted to talk to me and kept giving vague short answers so I said you know what? Let me just try the "potato egg", one item in the display window. Disgusting. An unseasoned potato wrapped inside of an over-cooked scrambled egg and paid like 4.50 for it. Couldn't even eat the thing. Any person of Hispanic or black ethnicity shouldn't go here as they seem a bit racist judging by body language and lack of customer appreciation and service plus the food is bad. read more

Awkward service vibe, and a decent BK blackout cupcake that was far from bad but definitely didn't live up to the F&W raves they post all over the damn place. Cupcake $3.50 read more

We can for the decadent Brooklyn blackout cake but they were sold out. My boyfriend and I ordered two Brooklyn blackout cupcakes. The frosting was perfection. The cupcake itself was nothing to write home about. Inbetween the cupcake and the frosting was a thin layer of ganache. The price point for two cupcakes was a bit on the expensive side. Our bill for two cupcakes and 2 bagels was $14. Had we split a piece of cake (which was rather large) then we would have saved a bit of money. A piece of cake ran $6. I would say the cake was 3-4x the size of one cupcake. I deceived to get two bagels for our breakfast. The bagels were nice and chewy. read more

Girl at the counter asked if I wanted the Brooklyn Blackout Cupcake to stay or go. Fortunately I inhaled the treat while she was talking, saving us both time and effort. It's dangerous how close this shop is to my apartment. read more

Staff is friendly, service is horrendously slow most of the time. Management needs more hands on deck. 10-15 minutes for a coffee is a joke

Y'all need to get wise to a slice of this Brooklyn Blackout cake. I eat a slice a week for maximum happiness. This is a sweet place with homey/ artsy/ kitschy decor. No Wi-Fi means you can always get a table but i usually take my cake home to smear the abundant amounts of frosting on my face so I have plenty of reason to lick myself. Take that cake to your crush, let the cake whisper sweet nothings for you. They offer an array of vegan & gluten-free options besides the conventional goods, but the case holds a mixture of goods so it's not ideal for folks with serious allergies. read more

One of the best bakeries in Brooklyn with amazing vegan options Their famous brooklyn blackout is crazy good!

What everyone else said--the chocolate cake here is BOMB. I knew it was supposed to be really good, but I still expected it to be dry because I went after 9PM and the cake had been sitting out all day (covered, but still). I also got the blue velvet, which is basically a blueberry muffin with vanilla icing. I don't love blueberry muffins, but the icing was really good! read more

I went to bake shop the other day and had a really great experience! The woman at the front with the dark shaggy hair and flame bandana was very friendly and helpful. She made me one of the best lattes I've ever had and served up a delicious vegan chocolate chip cookie. 10/10 customer service and tasty treats. Will be back for sure. read more

I visit every now and then for a croissant or some dessert. The people behind the counter seem nice and I haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered so far. They do seem to take a long time to prepare drinks. I order food, they cook it, and I leave before any of the people already waiting before I arrived are served their drinks. But maybe they are worth it? I was once disappointed to show up ten minutes after opening hours to find them only just unlocking the place, meaning they were nowhere near ready to serve guests. I went to a nearby deli instead. That's a textbook way to lose customers and $$. I will continue visiting because the prices are reasonable and the food is decent, but maybe don't trust them to be able to serve you right at 8am. read more

Really yummy pastries and cute environment (they have a few little tables you can sit and do work from or just chill) with other random offerings--books, chocolates, etc. Their vegan gluten free banana bread is really good--and so is their almond croissant read more

Unexpectedly excellent! I stopped by here for breakfast and it was great. So great that I felt compelled to write a review. I ordered a latte, a bagel, and some baked goods and everything tasted amazing. I'm usually kind of picky about my coffee because more often than not it doesn't come out right, but the coffee was my favorite thing I ordered. The staff was very friendly and got everything in my order exactly right. For only two people working there at the time, they're getting all the orders out super efficiently despite the line. Definitely recommend it and definitely coming back! read more

I absolutely adore this place! Everything I've gotten here has been amazing. This is definitely my favorite place to get coffee in this neighborhood, and it also has the best baked goods out of all the coffee shops in the area. In addition to having the best muffins and sweets, they also have more savory options like pizza bagels. The avocado honey loaf and the flourless brownies are my favorite!! I love you bake shop!!!!!! read more

Best chocolate cake ever - it's true! Try the Brooklyn Blackout. Lots of vegan treats and my fave chocolate mini bars - ZenBunni plus a fun selection of curated miscellaneous non food products (wool baseball caps, skincare and snow globes) We can't wait to eat the vegan vanilla strawberry cake we took to go too! We will be back! read more

One of the best chai lattes in the town. Nice ambience and good reading stuff to find around the caf

My go-to spot in the neighborhood. The absolute best bagels + the desserts are amazing as well, my personal fav is the blueberry cheesecake. Everyone who works there is super kind as well, I rave about this spot to everyone I know :) read more

My neighborhood coffee spot. Great cold brew and americano. Bagels are fresh and they have a wide variety of vegan treats I have yet to try. Clean and very well run. read more

The place is really cute and has some really cool things to look at, and some overpriced items to purchase. There is a good variety of cakes to choose from and I tried the chocolate, and it was very good. I don't know that I would say it's the best though I have not had other chocolate cakes in Brooklyn, but it's definitely not the best cake I've ever had. But it is good. There is a good variety of espresso beverages, as well. There is no wifi, so make sure if/when you go, you know that and have someone to talk to or something to read. The staff are very nice, too. read more

Pieces are cut really small for the price point of 7.50, kind of disappointing. Small birthday cake cut size...................

Beautiful plants, super friendly people, and the food is just ridiculous. I first tried this place last week and have been back 3 times since. Try the breakfast sandwiches on their fresh bagels - the best I've had in the city. And it's vegan. And I'm not even vegan.... And the cakes are unreal. I have so much more to try. highly recommend! read more

Cute place with a decent seating selection, nice service, and welcoming vibes. Some outlets, so it's good for studying when it's not crowded. I had the award winning Brooklyn Blackout chocolate cake. It was good, but not life changing. The cake itself had a surprisingly light and spongy texture, while the icing and chocolate filling were pretty sweet and just a little gritty with icing sugar. Given the name and award I was expecting something a little denser, darker in flavor, and richer. Still tasty though. Relaxing place to be on a Saturday afternoon, though, and I'll probably be back some time. read more

Super cute place in a super funky area! I had a blast here. I loved the variety of sweets they had and grocery items. A lot of hipster feels going around the shop. I love the decor. Very natural based and quiet relaxing. They have a "best chocolate cake in all of nyc" so of course I had to try it. In my opinion it was just a chocolate cake haha but it was good! Not the best unfortunately but everyone has their own opinions on that. Unfortunately I am never in the area and won't come back but it's a super awesome place to check out! read more

i had no plans to go into bake shop; however, after walking around brooklyn on a very cold and windy day, my friend and i were just looking for a place to sit and warm up, and bake shop just happened to be right there with a sign claiming "voted best chocolate cake in the usa by food and wine magazine". what a bold claim.... the place was relatively crowded for the afternoon, and the menu had a bunch of vegan options as well as other creative baked goods; however, my friend and i were here to see whether this chocolate cake lived up to its title. however, when we went to order, they said that the cake was still being iced and that it would be about 5 minutes till it would be ready. the cake, in reality, took about 20 minutes to be iced, which was kinda ridiculous as it looked like it was already finished; however, we were grateful to just wait and chill in the space to warm up and absorb some sunshine from the windows. i really do like how the place is decorated because im a stereotypical plant and purple light lover, so honestly pretty nice wait even if it felt unjustified. now onto the brooklyn blackout cake. one slice was seven dollars, which i thought was very steep despite its large size considering it was just a standard three tier chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. the cake itself was astoundingly disappointing as the chocolate tasted artificial, the crumb was dry, and the frosting was way too sweet. to me, it tasted worse than publix (shout out to georgia and florida ppl) chocolate cake, which is eight dollars for a WHOLE delicious and satisfying cake. although the vibes of the cafe are really nice, i would not recommend anyone to go to bake shop for its chocolate cake unless you're prepared for mediocrity. read more

My friend and I stopped here because we were in the area. It was a nice day out so their doors were open. We could smell the baked goods from the street. We absolutely loved the black out chocolate cake, so we decided to return the day we were leaving the city and heading towards the airport. Rachel was absolutely amazing. She gave us wonderful service and was sweet enough to accommodate to our needs. We ordered two more chocolate cakes, pizza bagels (one of which was vegan if you're into that) and some neat hot sauces! Great experience! Cute bakery, cute plants, chill vibes! Stop by if you get the chance! read more

I've lived a few blocks away from this place for almost a year, and can't believe I haven't been in before! Their vegan selections are amazing, first of all. Actual interesting flavors, like matcha cookies and a variety of muffins. I got a slice of the vegan lemon pound cake, and oh my god. They definitely don't cut corners on the vegan baked goods. Besides that, the atmosphere was amazing. It reminded me of one of those perfect little coffee shops you come across in small towns. Lots of tables I bet would be great for a coffee date, and so many plants in the space--I think they actually sell the plants, too! The people at the counter were friendly; I'll admit I was a little too dazzled by the pastry case to get their names, though. I haven't tried their coffee yet, but I'll definitely be back soon to get that and one of those amazing-looking vegan blueberry muffins I saw. Also, they have wifi, so this will probably become one of my go-to study spots once classes start up again. read more

Absolutely brilliant gluten free and vegan items. To go into a cafe or bakery and find a single GF item, let alone multiple delicious offerings, is somewhat of a unicorn in life. Not a chance in hell of EVER going in there again. Basic high priced BS products. Nothing to rave about. Go past there about 6:30 am and you'll be able see the rat that scurries around out front. If they're outside the front damn door I'm sure they're inside. read more

I'm giving it five stars because they are usually amazing... BUT there were times (twice actually) when the cupcakes have been overly dry. I'm guessing it was the baker's error because it definitely didn't taste old or anything. Just ridiculously dry. Maybe some of the bakers aren't very experienced? Other than that, everything else is so good. Their new banana pudding is sinful, their layer cakes are what I look forward to on my cheat days, and the sweet potato knish is just yum! Oh! And their brownies are vegan (I think), but still one of the best I've ever had. I'm not even kidding. These brownies are awesome. read more

Me and the hubby had a craving for cake and we googled nearby bakeries that were open at 8:30pm. This was one of the few that was closest to us. We ready about the famous chocolate cake and we're excited to try it. We also got a banana pudding and a latte. The cake was ok- not worth the hype. But the banana pudding was really good. Enjoyed the decor and funky music. Would recommend. read more

Wonderful vibe. Great playlist, amazing flourless brownie (I got the one without walnuts). I also got the raspberry herbal ice tea which is great. WiFi, plants, nice tables and chairs.
