    Crab cake sandwich

Great restaurant for locals and tourists visiting Sandbridge beach. This restaurant does get crowded because the location is tucked in Sandbridge close to all the homes. Good indoor and outdoor area and during the summertime they do have events each night and many live bands for entertainment. The staff is friendly and welcoming, we came on a weekday and yes, it was busy. Our wait time of 40mins however ended up being about 10mins. We sat down and looked at the menu, lots to choose from however the day we went their pizza oven was broken. No worries. We ordered something else. To start we got the calamari and broccoli. Both very good apps then for dinner my hubs got the crab cake sandwich and I got the shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos were super good! I would definitely go back again for them. It was filled generously and it was perfectly fried and seasoned. Our server was really friendly and attentive. She made sure to check on us often. Make sure you try this restaurant and be sure to get the shrimp tacos! You will thank me later!

Our AirBnb host highly recommended this local spot. He raved about the fish tacos and the beautiful sunset. My Mr and I were sold that on our last day, we had to pay them a visit. There is a coffee shop inside. We wanted to sit out on the patio since the weather was perfect and I wanted to take pictures of the sunset. It was steady so we were seated right away. Our server was Nova. Amazing server. Very laid back and attentive. Both the drink and food menus are simple. Not huge but enough for you to make a quick decision. They do have appetizers, burgers, seafood, pizza, entrees, salad and dessert. Our order for the night: New Realm Hazy Like a Fox IPA Relax Riesling She Fries Ca'Donini Sauvignon blanc O'Connor Brewing Proper Lager Red Snapper (grilled and fish of the day) with broccoli and hollandaise sauce Mahi tacos with veggies We got our she fries right away. Wow! Amazing! Like eating poutine! The crab soup on top was super thick and creamy. Had great flavor. Our dinners were delish as well. My Mr enjoyed his tacos and the red snapper was grilled just right. Loved the broccoli and the Boursin sauce that came with it. At the end, I was able to get that sunset shot. We sat on the lounge chairs, had a drink and watch the sun go down. Very relaxing. On occasion they do have live bands and they have cornhole if you want to play. Overall, this was a great experience. What a way to end our last day. Definitely coming back!

Fish tacos (I asked for fried fish instead of grilled). It was ok, not the best and I wouldn't recommend the mashed potatoes

This is a nice spot, our second time coming here the staff were super accommodating and friendly. The food is ok but we didn't mind coming since it was close to our Airbnb and we didn't need to drive. The view during sunset is gorgeous. Tip: if you are coming for dinner I would recommend putting your name in then walking the beach for a bit before your table is ready. We went on a Friday and Saturday night and had to wait about an hour for a table each time.

Great drinks and ambience. The bar tender was really helpful and specialty drinks were all great. It looks like they have a lot of great weeknight specials like karaoke and live music too. Check it out before sunset you won't be disappointed!

She crab fries... Like a seafood take on poutine.

My lady and I were looking for a spot nearby the beach for dinner with a great outdoor view and we were told of this place by the owner of our Air BNB. It was only a few minutes away which made it even better. Plus, why not have dinner near the beach that you're staying on? My lady and I got there around 6pm or so. They were a bit busy but we were still sat right away by a very friendly hostess. The place itself feels a little divey but is also open and welcoming. We sat outside in a very nice spot with a view of the setting sun. Both their food and drinks menus aren't huge but have a variety of great chioces. Our server, Nova, was absolutely great. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. My lady and I started off with a couple drinks, a Relax Riesling for her and New Realm Hazy Like a Fox IPA for me. We browsed the menu and were very intrigued by the She Fries, fries topped with their homemade She Crab soup... So we ordered some, and they were amazing! It was like a seafood take on poutine. The soup was rich like a chowder and had loads a big crab meat chunks. We tore it up! As for our main courses, my lady got the red snapper (fish of the day) grilled with steamed broccoli, and I got the ahi tacos with green beans. Of course we ordered more drinks! An O'Connor Proper Lager for me and a Ca'Donini Sauvignon blanc for her. Her fish was HUGE! Too much for her to finish. My tacos were very delicious and tasted immensely fresh. All of it was excellent! After we were done and VERY full, we ordered one more round of drinks, and sat nearby the water to watch the sunset. The view was almost perfect. We definitely enjoyed it and got some great pictures. On the way out, they had a bunch of shirts and hats for sale, so I scored myself a shirt with the place's logo on the front and back. This is one awesome local spot for good eats. Excellent service, very scenic location, tasty libations, and very fresh seafood. I highly recommend the she crab fries and ahi tacos. But whatever you decide to order, you're very likely going to enjoy it. Eat like a local!

A little gem hidden in the VB area! I was staying in Sandbridge for the week and it wasn't my first time, however, I never heard of this place! It's a little water-view spot with occasional live music, karaoke, and other fun themed nights for locals and vacationers alike. The staff was friendly and kind, and the food was good enough to return! I got a cesar salad and their new mushroom pasta with blackened chicken. The salad was excellent, I asked for it chopped but they were unsure what I meant, that's ok! The pasta had great flavor but was sitting in a pool of orange grease/oil and was absolutely overloaded with salt. That made it quite difficult to eat BUT the dish has so so much potential!!! We will be returning when we head back to VB next summer!

    Calamari app...really good

Baja has lots of good qualities. For starters, it was the only place that was walking distance from Sanctuary at False Cape. Next, it has a great space indoor and outdoor. Third, it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The space is awesome. We went during Covid restrictions, so a lot of the outdoor stuff, live music, corn hole, ect. Were all shut down. We still found the space to be nice and "beachy." Baja has there own coffee company so grab a cup and some breakfast items. For lunch and dinner the menu becomes seafood/american style. The coffee we had was good, they have a medium and dark roast options. For dinner, I had Mahi tacos, which were bland and I would not recommend. My mother in law had pecan crusted shrimp which were really good. We started with calamari, which was fantastic.

This place is a gem! We visited this restaurant not one, but two times during our stay in Sandbridge and both times were exceptional! Our food was delicious, the staff were all so friendly and attentive, and the view is just gorgeous! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!

They've made some updates since my last review. I noticed they swapped out the bar stools for what seem to be a bit more accommodating in style. They added cushion to the church benches, although they are a bit "grippy". They updated the other bar and also the outside area. I believe they have a cornhole section and from what I could tell, an area that could be really fun during the warmer months. The overall vibe is so quirky, cool, different, and I just love how it's decorated. The other locations have the same sort of intrigue but in much different ways. I still love the OG Bay Local and probably need to visit there again to be reminded of why we fell in love in the first place, but the location on General Booth... hard to beat, especially being so close. Another positive is the food quantity, quality, and price for what you are getting. Sure, almost every food establishment had to raise their price, but Bay Local seem to be very reasonable, ESPECIALLY for what you get. I know several other places that have good food, but you are paying several dollars more for what Bay Local offers that is similar (in some cases) but not slacking on portion control and quality. That is huge! Bay Local is a "well-oiled machine" with management, staff, and operations (not their first rodeo). The staff are attentive, friendly, fast in service, including fixing anything that may not have been correct, and still hold the quality of what they offer. Congrats to a great establishment, and it will remain on the top slots of our brunch list!

They were busy but hustling, not a long wait at all even though it was a Sunday during prime time. The waitresses were attentive & fast paced. Everyone worked as a team so no one was forgotten which was great. 10/10 recommend & I cannot wait to go back. This location does have tight parking and because the location is a little small, accommodating large groups seemed to be possible but with a wait & a little tricky. Best bet would be to call ahead for groups larger than 4 & be patient while waiting. Bar area is first come first serve (there's 2 bar locations, one central dining and one small one in the back of house). Come in hungry & ready to be kind to wait staff as they are totally kicking butt at their service game! :)

You can immediately tell this is a true local favorite that's been around for years with a very loyal following. The place was packed during lunch, and the rustic coastal atmosphere had exactly the kind of authentic Virginia Beach seafood-house vibe you hope to find when traveling. The restaurant was loud, lively, and full of people enjoying themselves, which honestly added to the experience. It almost felt like the customers themselves were part of the entertainment. Service from our server Sydney was friendly, attentive, and efficient despite how busy the restaurant was. The highlight of the meal was definitely the 1/2 dozen steamed blue crabs ($39.99). These were some of the best blue crabs I've ever had -- perfectly seasoned, fresh, meaty, and absolutely worth the mess. We also ordered the Neptune platter ($33.99), which included shrimp, oysters, clam strips, fries, and salad, and it was a generous portion with very solid seafood across the board. Drinks were very reasonably priced at only $2.99 each for sweet tea and Diet Pepsi. One of the surprises of the meal was dessert. The homemade coconut cream pie ($7.00) was outstanding -- fresh, flavorful, creamy, and the perfect way to finish the meal. Overall, this is not a fancy upscale seafood restaurant, and that's exactly why it works. It's rustic, energetic, authentic, and packed with personality. If you're looking for a true local seafood experience in Virginia Beach, this place absolutely deserves a visit. Can't wait for my next trip back to Virginia Beach so I can return to Margie & Ray's.

We grabbed a drink at the outside bar on a chilly Friday evening. The place fills up quickly once they open, and they didn't seat us early, so if you're looking to eat at a specific time, making a rezzie is wise. I had a glass of white wine and my husband had an old fashioned. The OF was good, but the bartender used a shaker for it, which is a huge no-no and sort of bartending 101. You don't water down an old fashioned before serving it; that's what the ice cube is for :) We started with the crab dip which was probably the best thing I had all night. The homemade tortilla chips were great! I had another drink called the something Blossom which was just ok. Wasn't worth $13. Scallops for dinner with sweet potato fries and green beans. The scallops were great; the fries were awful. They were charred to a crisp and very stringy. My husband had the soft shell crab sandwich and that was delicious. His sides were also very disappointing. The view is what makes this place appealing and the live music was a great touch! It's definitely a popular local spot. We got a piece of key lime to go and I didn't care for it. That's my favorite dessert of all time, but I wouldn't get it here. The lime taste is too fake. The service wasn't all that great. The staff here is a little rough around the edges. Our waitress maybe checked on us twice in a 1.5 hour sitting and didn't fill waters at all. She barely stayed at the table to ask if we had any comments about the meal after our food arrived and we needed a few items. We would return, but would like to see some improvements and would come back when it's warmer so we can experience more of the outside.
