Bahama Mama's was a great way to beat the Texas heat! We were in the area and stumbled upon this cute trailer with a large parking lot. I got the a small sugar free strawberry and sugar free pina colada. Hubby got a medium lychee and tiger's blood with ice cream. Both creations were very refreshing. I liked how they offered sugar free options, and the lychee flavor really tasted like lychee. The ice could have been just a tad softer, but it wasn't a big deal. There are some shaded areas to enjoy your snow cone but no actual tables available. Would return! read more

The employees were friendly. I got an 8-oz cup and it was sooo much shaved ice, which I loved. You can choose up to 3 flavors, and I chose strawberry shortcake and lemon pound cake. The strawberry shortcake was definitely my favorite! It smelled and tasted like a legit strawberry shortcake. The lemon pound cake flavor was overtaken by the strawberry shortcake flavor. It wasn't bad, but it could have been more flavorful. There was a heaping mound past the top of the cup. Bahama Mama's is run out of a trailer, so the seating area is outside. This is the #1 spot for snowcones in Katy. The ice is super soft, and I haven't found another place nearby that compares. My favorite flavors are the pina colada, strawberry, and grape, but there are so many on the menu that you're likely to find whatever it is that you're looking for! This place is perfect for the Houston heat. It's very family-friendly and has that summer vibe to it. There are benches and tables right next to the trailer if you want to relax with your shaved ice rather than get it to-go, but if you do, make sure you have napkins! If the place is a little more packed, it may be hard to get a parking spot. You can get your ice in four sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large. The prices may seem a little steep, but the ice is surprisingly very filling. Honestly, I think the small is enough to satisfy one person, MAYBE the medium if you're feeling up for it, but the large and extra large should be reserved for two or more people to share, if you don't want to end up drinking your shaved ice. There are a ton of flavors, so if you have trouble choosing, you can just ask an employee for a recommendation. They'll probably recommend wedding cake or tiger blood, though. No matter what flavor you decide to choose, I can guarantee that the ice is great quality. I know it's weird to describe it like this, but it's soft. I really do like this place, I just wish the people that worked here were a bit easier to deal with and more helpful. It's ran by a bunch of teens and dare you ask what is in a flavor, you get the typical eye rolling and fast mumble talking!! I wish they would list on the menu what is in which flavor. How do I know what cool breeze tastes like?? Haha!! Once you figure out what flavor you want they fix it and you need to wait again, then you finally get to have that yummy snow cone! It's made with shaved ice so they are really soft and melts in your mouth. Okay I think I need one now! If you can deal with teens, you will be in heaven!! This place is actually phenomenal. I love the ratio of syrup to ice--they do a great job of not overdoing it with the syrup but also not skimping on it & making it seem like you're just eating snow. Their flavors of syrup are also so delicious and don't taste too artificial (even though they are, let's be honest). The shaved ice is SO smooth, nothing can beat it. And the experience is probably what really makes it fun. This was the worst snowball I've ever had. I mean, I am from New Orleans where they make the best ones, but this one here was crap! I got a small cotton candy. When they gave it to me, I thought maybe they used 2 kinds of syrup, a pink, and white bc there was a whole lot of white showing. But then I realized it was ice! Like they must have used a freaking medicine dropper to put syrup on it. I knew something was up when I didn't get a straw. Anyway I'm thinking well I'll enjoy what little syrup there is, esp when it melts. NOT!!! I was wondering if they gave me some sugar free syrup as a joke. Anyway I'm eating it and anxiously waiting to get to bottoms where the juice settles and you sip with a straw, which I didn't get. Well there was no juice. This was unbelievable!!!! Yelp brought me here and I'm so glad that it did because this is going to be my new Go-To place to cool off in the Texas heat. It is literally a five minute, or less, walk from my house so i am definitely returning so that I can try each and every flavor of shaved ice. So far I've tried blue raspberry, blackberry, orange, pineapple passion, and green apple and I loved all of them! The ice is soft without being too fine or too chunky and the syrup is sooo flavorful and not too sugary. Also the price is great.. a large cup is around $3, not too bad. We have been going to Bahama Mama for years. The reviews about the female Owner are correct. Her husband is friendly, but I have seen her be rude, snippy and disrespectful to her customers for years. She genuinely does not like people. The snow cones are delicious, however the are so greedy with the syrup. To have it adequately covered, they charge you extra. There are so many great new places popping up everywhere in Katy to go. We chose to spend our money where it is appreciated. read more
