I absolutely love this place. I am usually here before the big morning rush, so my experience is nicer than most - I don't have to stand in line. Ha! But I also patiently waited in a long line at times when commuters begin to crowd up the shop on their way to conquer the World (Manhattan that is). Anyway, bagels are some of the best in Brooklyn. Since I am a regular (and I think even before I became one) the service is very friendly. Nothing short of 5 stars. p.s. You a movie buff? You know that little flawless creation of genius called "Glengarry Glen Ross"? You know that Alec Baldwin monologue holding a pair of brass balls? You should! You really really should!!! The only thing I miss about the hell that is living in Coney Island is Bagel Boy. My god I could eat that Heman (eggs, sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese) on onion every morning. Food here is fast and fresh and the best breakfast in the area. Bagels are a perfect balance of good flavor without being too bulky. Get a chocolate croissant to top it off - better than some fanciful French bakery. Only complaint is there's usually a line, but still worth it. Staff are friendly. Stopped in to pick up two plain bagels. The bagels are good. The line was twenty minutes long. I said I just want two plain bagels do I have to wait on line? He said house rules. I waited twenty three minutes for two plain bagels with nothing on them. I asked one of three cashiers who were standing around if I bought two sodas would I have to stand in line; he said no. The owner came by and I asked him; he rudely said Happy New Year and walked away mumbling "he don't want to wait on line like everyone else". Great sandwiches!! It wasn't crowded on a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm. They're friendly and when I checked in, they had a buy 6 bagels, get 3 free. There is limited seating however. Overall, I'd be back. We had the chicken club and the classic roast beef. Both were good, but the roast beef was nothing spectacular. They get 4 stars because of the chicken club. I used to work in the neighborhood and would order lunch from here at least once a week. I've even driven all the way here from my home for breakfast. Food: It is a Deli, so dont expect an extravagant meal and with that being said, as a deli it is a notch above the rest, maybe even two. I come here for the bagels (you name it, they have it, in terms of bagels and shmears). I generally get a whole wheat bagel, toasted, with lox cream cheese and actual smoked lox with a tomato (this will blow your mind, try it). I love the create your own salads option, I get pretty crazy sometimes with my salads. I also like their soups (split pea and chicken noodle/rice) but nothing spectacular. I've never had their coffee or sandwiches, so I cant speak for those items. Service: Sometimes it can be a bit slow but I never wait longer than 15 minutes. The people behind the counter give pretty standard service, nothing more. Atmosphere: Its a typical Deli, maybe a bit cleaner looking and feeling than your average. There are also a few chairs to sit in and eat but generally, most people take their items to go and eat else where. Overall: I keep coming back here because I love their bagels and the create your own salads (the salads are a bit expensive). Got breakfast here on my way home from the gym. There was a sign clearly directing customers to the end of the line, and the line itself was orderly and quick. I passed by several fridges full of drinks, yogurts, fruit salads, etc. The ingredients were all clearly visible behind glass and all looked fresh. There were easy-to-read menus posted that you could look at while waiting for the guy with the notepad to take your order. I wish I'd seen the menu panel all the way at the register, which was different, before I'd ordered but I'll know for next time. Once you place your order (mine was an Uptown on poppy seed and a Sweetheart on an egg bagel) it gets a little confusing - everyone is just waiting bny the register for their order to be called up. They don't have order numbers so I can see thisbeing an issue if two people order the same thing, or similar things. It also leaves you in a helpless "I don't know what's going on now" phase until your order is called up. They do accept credit cards. I added an iced coffee to my order last minute and it was perfect. The sandwiches are neatly wrapped and given to you in a paper bag with napkins, inside a plastic bag. The cashier asked me whether I'd like a printed receipt, and after reading other reviews on here I asked for the receipt. There was no overcharge so I guess I got lucky. I'll ask every time I come here just to be on the safe side. I felt like it was slightly expensive paying over 17 bucks for 2 sandwiches and a coffee, but to be fair the prices WERE posted on the menu and I COULD have gotten cheaper things if I was on a budget. I also can't say they skimped - the layer of ham on my bagel was almost as thick as the bagel itself. My only real complaint is that I asked for the bagels toasted and I'm not sure what happened; they were warmed but not "toasted" - though they were slightly burnt at the edges so I know the guy doing my order didn't forget to do it, that's probably just how their grill toasts things. It didn't ruin the taste at all. For those not in the mood for a bagel, they also have a salad bar, wraps and heroes, muffins, oatmeal with various toppings, and a selection of pastries. I just question who goes to a place called "Bagel Boy" when not in the mood for a bagel. Couple of little things that could be improved, but overall tasty food and good experience. Bagel Boy has been my go-to bagel store since they started on ocean ave. Their bagels have always been the best in the area. Crusty outside, fluffy inside and MASSIVE, they are exactly what a Brooklyn bagel should be. And anyone who knows Bagel Boy knows about their famous chicken salad, which is insanely delicious, is enough to draw me there regularly. Bagel Boy, I love you. I've been to all 3 locations in Sheepshead, Bay Ridge and Old Bridge. All delicious. But I have one serious gripe that keeps you from getting 5 stars. Your new(ish) electronic order delivery/pos system takes your counter guys 5x longer to take an order now, especially the language-challenged dudes, and the wait is TERRIBLE. So much so, that I now walk out at least twice a week because the line is so long and slow. You're losing business. Fix it. read more

I normally don't write reviews but am so disappointed in my sandwich today I felt the need to vent. Best bagels around however the service has ranged from good to terrible. When ordering sliced lox on my bagel at $10 I expect more than 2 paper thin slices. I also asked for a slice of onion which I didn't get. The young guy who made my bagel was too busy talking to his other young colleagues to focus on making my bagel correctly. I've given them several tries and at $10 I expect more. I used to order from this place. Lunchtime rush takes a little long, but I visited the store a few times and it does get very busy. Tried this bagel shop after purchasing a groupon offer. First, I must say that the service was horrible! There were about 5-8 people behind the counter and the store was pretty empty the afternoon I visited (The amount of people working behind the counter out numbered the total people in the store!!). The food is good, no complaints. This review is about the phone ordering process. I don't know if the girls on the on the phone hate themselves or their jobs more or if they're just miserable cows, but the way they speak to PAYING customers is unacceptable. No one wants to hear your attitude or have you hanging up on when we ask "too many questions". We order from here all the time and it's always the same couple of people who need to take a course in proper customer service and a course in MANNERS. I asked to speak to the manager at one point at which one of the girls basically hung up the phone on me. Take your sour attitude elsewhere, this is absolutely rude and disrespectful behavior. In person ordering is never a problem. I hope management takes these types of recommendations seriously and takes appropriate action. read more

So we are in NYC the capital of bagels and it shouldn't be difficult to find a good bagel. NOT TRUE! The bagels in bagel boy put most other bagels to shame. Their paninis are yummy, their soups are always fresh and never too salty, and their "make-your-own salad" options are consistently fresh. Freshness is a simple thing, but it is not always available in these types of places. I cannot tell you how many times I ended up throwing out wilted greens and frostbitten tomatoes and cucumbers from other establishments. I just wish that they delivered on the weekend. This place has a ton of breakfast and lunch food choices. The bagels are good, not great but definitely above average. They have prepared sandwiches and pasta dishes in the refrigerator section as well as a wide selection of drinks, packaged local baked goods, chips, nuts, etc. I know a lot of bagel places have a quasi grocery section which normally sucks but their selection is pretty good. It stays really busy in the morning (8-10) and lunch (1130-2) but the lines move fast and the workers are fairly friendly for a deli. There are only about 5-7 chairs to sit at so I wouldn't plan on eating here. I normally would get an everything or whole wheat everything bagel, sandwich on a roll, or salad. Veggies are always fresh. I have tried a few of their deli salads (mushroom salad, olives, tuna, etc) which were all just ok. I hate to point this out, but I referred a few of our summer interns to go there last summer and a few of them complained about getting an upset stomach, then other people in my office replied with "oh yeah I never go there, it always makes me sick". That surprised me bc I have eaten here often over 4 years and never got sick, but they all seem to have gotten prepared food (the paninis and such from the deli fridge) so maybe that's why? Came for a morning fixture of breakfast. I've had breakfast sandwiches from here twice and finally got to experience ordering myself. Upon entering you walk to the center of the counter, wait for a cue from the staff behind the counter to take your order. Tell them what you want and then you walk to your right and wait behind the register. Depending on how complicated your order is, it might take awhile, so don't fret about them forgetting about your food. Finally, my food was ready and it was handed over to the girls behind the register to ring me up...I'm not sure how effective this process can be when it's super busy though. I had a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll with salt and pepper and ketchup. It's a simple breakfast sandwich which costed me $4.46 (tax included already). It's a bit steep for me since we're in Brooklyn. I've yet to try their bagels but they do look promising. I'm not crazy about the ordering process but so far, the quality of the food is quite good. Maybe if they hand me a number and when it's ready by the register just call my number? I just don't appreciate patrons hovering around the register when they just ordered and impatiently waiting to pay for their food and bounce. read more

Bagel boy has been around for years, since I was a kid. This is definitely a local spot. The bagels are pretty cheap but nothing special. It's more about the locality because you remember your parents always coming here, your teachers, just about everyone comes here. This place is always busy but the people here are quick and get your orders right. I only come for the bagels here. There's a huge selection. I'm not too sure about the other food like their pastas and chicken and all the stuff that's not covered and has been sitting in the fridge for what looks like a while. It doesn't look too clean to me (it's been out for a while, to the point where the edges of the tin container start to harden up) so I wouldn't try it. They do sell the fancy apple juice in the glass jars and Greek yogurt, but it's expensive. You're better off going to stop and shop two blocks down and picking it up there. The location is also fantastic. It's right by the Q and B line so if you're ever in sheepshead, be sure to pick up a bagel here! read more
