Rose walnut baklava
Sophie C.

Bad Morning Bakery is one of those places where you can taste the love and care in every bite. Every Saturday, you'll find the whole family -- Vanessa, her husband, and her two sons -- working side by side at the market. The name itself is a family story too: it's inspired by one of Vanessa's sons, nicknamed "Bad Morning because he's not exactly a "morning person", she said with a laugh. I got to meet Vanessa and even see the magic happen behind the scenes. Vanessa, an engineer by training, taught herself everything through trial and error- a true labor of love. She told me that the dough go through a 48-hour fermentation, which gives them depth of flavor, a perfect chewy texture, and is easier to digest! She even uses two kinds of mozzarella (fresh and full-moisture) for the best stretch and creaminess in every bite. I tried their best seller: the za'atar & cheese man'ooshi, which is a fan favorite for good reason. Crispy, herby and lemony, cheesy, and pulled straight out of their 900-degree ovens. The rose walnut baklava was unlike any pastry I've had before -- rich, floral, and delicate. It felt like something you'd find at a hidden bakery abroad. Even by 10 a.m., their stand was packed! People clearly know how good this stuff is. Definitely worth showing up early for!

Update: I have been dreaming of the za'atar bread here and immediately bolted to this food stall to try another item. I got the veggie wrap which is essentially za'atar on a bread wrap with cucumber, mint, tomato, and labneh yogurt. It was good and very easy to eat while walking around the market, but just wasn't as good as the flatbread....I'll be back for the flatbread.

Our family is OBSESSED with Bad Morning! First of all, the owners of this family owned and operated business are the nicest and most caring people you'll ever meet. They care so deeply about their customers and menu items and it's obvious that they only use the freshest ingredients. The manaeesh are amazing--I've tried all of them and it's hard to say which one is my favorite. The zaatar and cheese has the best of both worlds and the veggie is amazing. The beef bacon, egg, and cheese is my go-to when I can't make up my mind. The manaeesh are perfect to take on picnics and to the beach, or to serve when we have people over for brunch. Our trip to Bad Morning is also never complete without the tastiest baklava I've ever had. And in the past few months, I've had summer in a drink with their refreshing lemonade.

Their food is addictively delicious! I wish they had a brick and mortar location. Get the shawarma, it's incredible.

Seasoning on the beef is bland. The bread is doughy. In other words keep walking by and save your money.

We started with the Crispy Cauliflower, coated with tempura batter and served with lemon aioli; Roasted Brussels Sprouts, topped with chili flakes & Parmesan and served in a cast iron skillet; and the Hummus, topped with Pepitas and served with thin, crispy parm'd pizza bread. The Chopped Kale Salad came with apple, radish, carrot, cotija, and Pepitas, all tossed in a tangy pomegranate vinaigrette; and the Chickpea Salad also had a base of kale topped with chickpeas, roasted sweet potato/carrot, and charred halloumi, and dressed with herbed pesto. The highlight of the menu was their creative pizzas, which you could order either on a thin, crispy Neapolitan crust, or on a thick, soft, square-shaped Detroit-style base with crispy baked cheese edges. The Fun Guy came with porcini cream, mushroom, onion, goat cheese, and pecorino; and the Hail Mary came with beer braised chicken, caramelized onion, cotija, garlic, and Calabrian chili oil, which gave the pizza a flavorful spicy kick. Overall, my favorite items were the Hummus with aromatic pizza bread; and the tantalizingly spicy Detroit-style Hail Mary, but everything was tasty and came at a good value and with quick service too!

We got the chicken masala pizza with the butter sauce pasta, which is one of their new pasta options. Between the two of us, we absolutely killed a small pizza and the pasta. I honestly don't think I've ever had something this good from a pizza spot! The price is a little on the higher side, but honestly, it's not outrageous. Pizza these days can be pretty pricey when you go to a specialty spot instead of a chain, so it didn't really bother me. The guy working the counter was the only one there, and he handled everything perfectly. He was super nice and welcoming. The restaurant was a little empty, but honestly, that just made it feel extra cozy. Absolutely loved this place and will 10,000% be coming back!

For this price of $29.99 for a large (14") in which they say there's 12 slices so you assume it's 12 equal slices but it's rather uneven and small slices. I know shrinkflation is a thing and medium is like the new large, but dang probably better not to mention the slice #s in this case. Value: 2/5 29.99 for a large which feels more like a medium at 14". Taste: I ordered butter chicken pizza so I expected a deeper curry flavor in each slice but the sauce felt very light or maybe a bit imbalanced because I could taste like cumin but the flavor profile of butter chicken wasn't fully there. I will say it did smell delicious just taste wasn't there. Something was off, usually the chicken pieces should have a deeper curry flavor but the chicken didn't have that embedded taste. 72/100 Service: 5/5 good service was fast Environment: 5/5 clean interior Final: C+, will probably not comeback since l was looking for a deeper flavor
