Curious to see if any changes were made to the restaurant or its menu, we met here for brunch on 10/04/2025. Upon entering at around 10:30am, we were immediately greeted and seated by the staff. The interior was clean, and the only change I noticed was they replaced the booths with tables. The menu was pretty much the same as before, with some new items added to it. George opted for the Baja Fish Tacos and I got the Meat Lover's Omelette. In addition to the food, we also ordered a couple beverages. Our order didn't take long to arrive. My omelette was made with bacon, sausage, ham, and a medley of chopped vegetables and it tasted pretty good. The accompanied Cajun seasoned country potatoes were pretty pedestrian. George gave me one of his tacos and it was delicious. The deep fried catfish used was crunchy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. Service we received was very good. The staff member were attentive and efficient. The restaurant biz is challenging these days so hopefully the new Clementine's will be able to find its footing. Based on this experience, I believe a 4-star rating is justified.

The fries had some kind of heavy, starchy coating on them that gave them an odd texture and made them taste cheap and overly processed. They didn't taste like good, fresh french fries at all. I'm not sure what the coating is supposed to add, but in my opinion it really takes away from them. A simple, regular crispy french fry would have been SO much better. It's especially frustrating because the rest of the food was very good. Sometimes simple is better--ditch the starchy coating and serve a good old-fashioned french fry!

It's been a while since I've given Ukai a review so it's time to review again. Sushi is good…read more Portion sizes are decent. Service is great. I am allergic to shellfish so as much as I'd like to try their many sushi rolls, my choices were limited to sashimi or nigiri or meat dishes. I couldn't order a California roll because they mix real crab with imitation crab. That's a bonus! Too bad for me through. I ordered: Salmon Skin Hand Roll: Flavorful and the salmon skin has some meat on it. Definitely recommend! Hamachi Nigiri: Tasty My son ordered a combo dinner with Tonkatsu and Spicy Tuna roll. It came with miso soup, salad and rice. Nice size and everything tasted delicious. Ukai still looks exactly the same as before. So glad they're still here after so many years.

So Disappointed…read more Man, this place used to be the spot for me. I've been coming to Ukai Japanese Bistro for a while and it was always one of my go-to places for lunch, which is why the recent changes are honestly pretty disappointing. The lunch/dinner menu has gone up by well over 25-30%?, and unfortunately, I just don't feel like the food matches the new prices. The food seemed noticeably less fresh than I remembered, and overall the experience just didn't have the same quality it used to. I've also heard they recently switched owners, so maybe that explains some of the changes, but either way, the huge jump in price feels hard to justify when the quality seems to have gone in the opposite direction. It's a shame because I genuinely used to love this place and would recommend it without hesitation. At the current prices, though, I'm not sure I can say the same anymore. Hopefully they can bring back some of what made this place special.

We ordered the bread with the caponata dipping sauce, chicken piccata, salmon dill, butternut squash ravioli, linguine bolognese, spumoni gelato, and the crème brûlée. The food came out quick and was so fresh and delicious! Our server Andres went above and beyond! Victor was also very helpful as well. It was wonderful to see the restaurant busy on a random Wednesday night. We loved the lively atmosphere. I would eat here every day if I could!

If you get a side salad expect pretty much a full salad size. The restaurant is cozy with the kitchen being open. The bad: the food. The carbonara was described as "I like fettuccini Alfredo I just wasn't expecting it". I got the butternut squash ravioli, and the ravioli was overcooked while the filling somehow was maybe a little less or undercooked. A better sauce would be a brown butter sauce, it just doesn't pair very well with the Florentine sauce. I think it was also a little light on the salt. The calamari was interesting. It kind of looks like a fried fish. The bread oil was somehow sweet but spicy. The burrata actually wasn't that bad. While the service was great, I will not be back.

Went in again for breakfast between appts and I traveled 40 minutes to get here (and back) around…read more9:30ish-10ish. That tells you what I think of the food. Amazing. Some of the clientele can be a bit rude if you are not who they expect in that environment (iykyk), but that's Danville/Contra Consta County in general I think. For ex. a grandma came in with her grandson. I smiled and waved at him on the way in. While they were leaving, she completely hit my chair to the point where I almost fell out of it, and she didn't even apologize, but that's not the cafe's fault. I only write this to let you know expect some of that behavior. Another elderly gentleman kept coming in front of me while I was completing my bakery order b/c he couldn't wait to be served, etc. but other elderly patrons were lovely. Ordered a spring omelet and got something else instead (with meat!), and they corrected the mistake w/o making me feel bad and gave me extra potatoes. I got to steep my tea the way I wanted to!!! Next time I'll ask for extra hot water. Sat outside during the light rain by myself, so pleasant. Got baked goods and I shouldn't have assumed they didn't have proper pasty boxes for it all, they do. You just have to ask that all your baked goods don't go in one box. The amicable server last time, took my order this time as well. She strives to make everyone feel comfortable and the morning rush shows this. Got 4 cupcakes and she suggested the mango, omA so freaking good! Not too sweet or greasy which is a common problem with dedicated gluten free goods. I only ordered 4 cookies this time and both the scones. I should have gotten a whole box of those lemon blueberry scones, divine! Came home and my daughter said you didn't get a brownie, oh gosh, sorry, next time! This is by far the best dedicated gluten-free restaurant in all of the Bay Area. It trumps Mariposa's, it trumps Pushkin's in Sacramento (not in the Bay Area, but I have enjoyed their restaurant while I am there), it trumps Stacks which have dedicated gluten-free menus, but I've always had reactions after eating there. I've never had a bad stomach reaction after eating here and I am just so happy this place exists.

I walked in and was immediately greeted by a young lady behind the counter. I decided to try a variety of cookies on display in the case. I went with- Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Butter, Cookies 'n Cream, and Snickerdoodle. So 4 cookies, total $19. Good, fresh and tasty cookies. Not too sweet. Cafe was clean and neat. Lots of tables inside, and some outside. I will definitely return if I'm in downtown Danville again.
