My wife and I hired Backyard Pool and Spa to do the weekly maintenance on our pool approximately a year ago. We had a problem with the check valve on our pool equipment, that our previous pool maintenance guy couldn't figure out after several attempts, so I contacted Backyard, and Jericho, the owner came over within a day or so, and he was able to resolve the problem quickly and for a very reasonable price, I liked both Jericho's professionalism and personality so much that I told him I'd like to hire Backyard to do our regular pool maintenance, but that I was loyal to the company we were using. Then, a few months later that company advised us that they could no longer service our pool because it was too far out of the way general area they serviced. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it! Since Backyard has taken over the weekly maintenance of our pool, we have been very happy with there service. Jesie is the person who does the weekly maintenance and he's great! He shows up every week like clockwork, is always friendly, respectful and considerate, and leaves our pool sparkling clean! He also always takes a photo of the pool and emails it to me when he's finished, so that I know the weekly service was performed, in the event I'm not home. In addition to Backyard resolving the problem with our check valve, they also installed a new pool heater for us, and we are completely satisfied with that as well. I maintain our fairly complex 30,000-gallon infinity edge pool as a self-taught pool guy. It hasn't always been easy. The equipment was originally located in an open-to-the-elements dirt area below the lowest water level of the pool. The poor installation design made it difficult to work on. The pool itself is fantastic, but the entire system was in need of a complete overhaul as time and exposure killed the heaters and took a toll on everything else: pumps, valves, panel, etc. I wanted modernized equipment, improved layout of plumbing, electrical, and control wiring. Basically, everything ripped out, replaced, and relocated sensibly. But before I could justify that expense, it needed a better protective enclosure to extend its service lifetime. And thus, the challenge: a total system upgrade while simultaneously building a pool house around it. As a fairly handy homeowner and software engineer by trade, everything has to be just right to keep me happy. This huge job would demand higher than usual skill, extreme attention to detail, with flexibility and plain hard work to meet and exceed my vision to the end. This was more than an ordinary pool guy could handle. So, I started meeting with pool companies. Eventually, I found the right fit with Backyard Pool and Spa. The decision was due to the confidence and knowledge demonstrated by owner, Jericho Bartlett, who met and worked with me to solidify a plan that fit into our budget and schedule. Timing would be critical for coordinating the work while construction was taking place around it, and he prioritized his schedule to accommodate ours. During planning, Jericho recommended new equipment where needed, including LED lights and upgrading to a newer salt chlorination system. But he also suggested keeping some still-operating pumps along with changes to the design to make replacements easier when that day comes. I liked his practical and economical approach. He also knew with me being the tech guy what newer system automation I'd like. And since I'd continue to do the pool maintenance myself, he understood my concerns for making that easier, too. Jericho oversaw the entire pool equipment project, doing most of the work himself while involving his son, daughter, and other employees on various aspects. They all were most impressive in their capacities and worked well alongside my brother and me as we built the enclosure structure. Collaborating with me daily, Jericho would easily pivot whenever we changed directions. He took in stride the usual surprises one encounters when half the system is underground, and happily seized on unexpected opportunities for improvements as we uncovered the mysteries that would be revealed. And he was just plain fun to work with, even while tackling the tougher challenges. Throughout and after the project, he took the time to respond to my questions about understanding the full operation of this advanced system. I know also that he put in far more hours than his initial labor estimate covered. He never mentioned this and honored the original cost. This is exactly how I treat my customers, and that is exactly how you keep them. And what a transformation! The original, haphazardly designed system went from falling apart in a dirt pad to being reimagined and properly reengineered within a solid structure on a raised deck (upon which future filter cleanings by yours truly will be much easier). We didn't even have to drain the pool; critical care and speed kept the water in good shape. We've received many compliments on our total pool house makeover. Overall, it turned out just as I expected: a super challenging project with results I had envisioned. I was having big problems with my pool water a few weeks back and was attempting to contact pool service companies for assistance. I was not having a lot of success but Mr. Jericho Bartlett the owner of Backyard Pool and Spa responded to my inquiry and explained my house was not in their service area. Mr. Bartlett asked about my problem. We probably exchanged about a half dozen emails within the following week. The problem was that my pool water was just worn out and the pool needed to be drained and cleaned. I found a company to handle this problem. After a series of recent significant storms our pool turned a completely different color due to the debris and run off from the surrounding landscape. The day after the storms had passed, a day after our normally scheduled service, I received an email from Backyard Pool & Spa stating they would be coming out to inspect my pool. They were on it before I even had the idea of contacting them to see if they would be willing to come out sooner than my next service date. Water was brown and the bottom of the pool was covered in dirt which required a solution to allow the dirt the settle over the course of a couple days. Backyard Pool & Spa came out shortly after to vacuum out all the dirt, and ensure the correct levels of chemicals. Within four days, Backyard Pool & Spa had my pool back to normal. Totally blown away this was possible, and even more impressed with the their customer service. They reached out before I (the customer) had to, and fixed the problem without delay. I was having various problems with my pool. I have not had great luck dealing with the various pool service guys. Most of them were flaky and many didn't seem to really know what they were doing. That was completely different with Backyard Pool and Spa. The office staff were great and very helpful. Jericho came out to work on my pool and he was wonderful. He fixed all of my issues and told me how my pool worked. He gave me suggestions on how to maintain the pool myself and answered all of my questions. When I bought my house it came with a pool that had a lot of maintenance issues. Every summer,for the past 3 years, I had to repair this or that and felt that my hard earned money slipped through my fingers like water once the repair was done. This is a follow-up review. My prior review was outstanding and I was very pleased. Bottom line, I found Backyard lacked the technical knowledge about how to use / adjust the spa, and I found another pool service that is much more knowledgeable and interested. Why did I want to change? Lack of technical knowledge by the technician that came out to do the pool. When I asked how to use the spa, he had what I perceived as a bad attitude and quite frankly, did not know how to effectively use the spa. He said, well, I am not sure, I think this is the way, etc. When I asked questions of why the bubbles are so low, he had no idea. Clearly he is not properly trained, and I don't remember the original owner boss coming out other than to install a new pump that he sold me. Hey, I don't want to cause an explosion or ruin expensive pool equipment, so it was an easy decision to go elsewhere. It was interesting, when meeting with the new company, their knowledge was 10000% more insightful and knowledgeable about the spa and other matters impacting my pool maintenance. I am really glad I found this out now instead of later. Very disappointing but I am glad I have a new pool service professional that cares. read more

We were having some issues with our spa and Jericho came out and quickly diagnosed and fixed the issue, and we discovered another issue with the heater (it was taking much longer than it should to work, and starting and stopping during the process) that he was able to diagnose, get some parts for, and come by and fix within a couple of days. My unreliable pool pump decided to stop working the day before NYE. For the prior month, I manually primed the pump every day, while my regular pool service company reached out to distributors for a replacement with no success. I started the daunting task searching online reading reviews of pool service companies and the feedback on Backyard Pool & Spa got my attention. Keep in mind this was 4 PM Friday before New Year's Eve. I submitted a service inquiry believing with any luck, I'd hear back on Monday. 20 minutes later, I received a response from the owner Jericho asking for more details and photos of my equipment. After I replied to his request, Jericho followed up his recommendation along with a proposal. Still in a state of ecstatic disbelief, I asked if I paid the deposit today what would be the earliest he could do the install. He gave me 2 dates, one of them being next Tuesday morning. The deposit was completed. Jericho punctuality showed up Tuesday texting me upon his arrival. The new Pentair replacement was completed under 2 hours and he took time at the end going through all the Pentair features in setting up the timer with the variable speeds. What more can I say. We recently had a situation where we needed some minor pool work done and contacted quite a few pool services. Some just texted us back and refused to speak by phone. Some never called back. Some could not handle the job. Some set appointments and never showed or called a few weeks later to see if we still needed that work they blew us off for. In that process, we found Backyard Pool and Spa on Yelp. Jericho was very responsive--in fact I am pretty sure he came the exact same day we called. I say that because we have contacted him for a few other issues since and he always immediately is able to respond or at least let me know when we could touch base on a date and time he could do the work. Also, after that first visit, our pool heater stopped working unexpectedly. We were selling the house and it had to be replaced so again Jericho hopped into action, installing a new heater and hauling away the hideous old one. We had some issues with the new unit (related to the manufacturer) and again, we texted jericho who hopped onto fixing. I'm sure he may be getting tired of hearing from us but he never lets on!! He just contacted the manufacture for us and within an hour, was here working on fixing it. I would highly recommend Jericho and Backyard Pool and Spa for any repairs and pool maintenance/service. Don't expect anything more than pool cleaning. We hired them to help with some equipment issues and to clean our pool monthly service. It's been three months and they have still not fixed out heater and we have not been able to use our pool or spa. I have to constantly ask what is going on and work on the equipment myself. Instead of finding a solution or someone that can fix it, they just give up. I even asked if I needed to purchase new equipment and did not get a response. I have sever back problems and using our spa is part of my treatment. I regret ever contacting them for pool service as I have wasted my entire summer waiting around for them to fix the heater and am no better off than when I started. Then I met her husband Jericho and I must say they are not one of those so called "family businesses" who have nothing to do with family. They really appeased my worries and changed my filter 24 hours after the call and worked with me not only on the price is the filter but also on the service and brought back my pool to life.
