Vinyl pool owners, beware! I had a horrible experience with Golden State Pool Service that has prompted me to take legal action. After a routine service visit to my vinyl pool, the pool began losing water rapidly and dropped to less than halfway full within days. A Vinyl Pool Repair company later identified a large puncture in the liner and advised the damage appeared consistent with blunt force. It is in the very bottom corner of the pool on the 8ft side, somewhere a 5 year old child couldn't reach. I checked camera footage to see their technician using his tool in an up and down motion as if he's spearfishing in my pool. Days later - the water dropped less than halfway. Other red flags - they removed my existing vacuum and replaced with a different one without my knowledge or permission. This specific vacuum was not recommended for vinyl from the vinyl EXPERTS that I consulted with. Furthermore, they also charged me on a random day for some type of "annual fee" without disclosing that upfront. Lastly, the last service visit we had (on a rainy day - no clue why the guy still showed up), the employee went behind the camera area and stood under my sundeck on his phone. Is that what you're getting paid for? Service visits under 10 minutes while you stand around. There were multiple red flags I ignored and excused but the damage to the pool was the last straw. Despite the timing of the incident, the severity of the water loss, camera footage, and the findings from ABCO, Golden State declined to take responsibility for the damage or assist with replacement costs. As expected: they responded to dodge accountability by saying the vinyl was in brittle condition - this still doesn't change the fact that you punctured my pool. See you in court. read more

I've been using them since 2021 and they are generally pretty professional. Ray the owner helped with us upgrading our pool pump and with our heater a couple times. However, the recent visits feels a little rushed. More recently, when they were driving to my place, their worker neglected to stop at a stop sign and almost hit me with their service van. I'm glad that business is booming, but if your worker can't afford to stop at a stop sign on their route, maybe the schedule was a bit too packed. I called them on the date of incident and Nick told me he will get back to me after checking in with the worker. It's been a month I've not heard back. read more

I've been using Golden State Pools for years. Gio is my pool guy and he does an awesome job. I have them taking care of everything, from weekly chemicals/cleaning to annual filter cleaning and the occasional repairs if needed (upgrading from an older Hayworth pump to a new Pentair variable speed pump for example or repairs to my Barracuda). They keep the pool sparkling and allow us to enjoy it as we wish. read more

I've had quite an interesting experience with golden state pools. I first had someone come out to check out my pool and everything went well in that consultation. Golden State didn't get back to me for a week so I wrote a review notating that I thought they were a little too busy for me. Someone from the company reached out and said the email must have been wrong and got us over the info. We had them come in for a couple weeks and everything was fine. We then went on vacation for three weeks. When we got back the gentleman came who was cleaning the pool. He spent maybe 5 minutes and all he did was just skim the top of the pool and dump what was in the skimmer. I watched it. We still had a a ton of pine needles at the bottom of the pool all over the pool and our robotic electric pool cleaner literally had so much stuff in it that it couldn't move. I attached some photos after the "cleaning" I ended up cleaning the pool myself that day. I talked to Ray and he suggested that we have a service manager come out in a week to talk to me. I had my hand in the pool cleaning it that day and it was burning so I thought I would test the water myself at this point to see if it was ok to go in. The chlorine levels were near a 20 (suggested would be 3-5). We called another company to come out and test the water as well and they showed me the chlorine in their machine was a 19. These are very unsafe levels. We had a company check the phosphates and they were 289. I checked the phosphates and they were around 300-500 where they should be under 100 (attached a photo). I added water to the pool for an hour to try and get rid of some of the chlorine and used a test strip and it still indicated 10 or above. I will spend the next couple days now trying to get the pool back to where it needs to be. It's frustrating because we had planned to have friends and family over to use the pool today because it's so hot out but it just seems quite unsafe with the chlorine levels this high. I hate to write a bad review about anyone. My take on golden state pools is that they have very smart people working there at the top and if you need a fix or something maybe they would be the ones to go with but the actual people who clean the pools I feel like may be taking advantage of people. They are probably overworked so they are just trying to finish their day quicker which means cutting a ton of corners. For the most expensive pool service company on the market, I did expect more. read more

Our new house already had Golden State doing pool service. Basic issues like missing a week, charging a credit card fees or pushing equipment rentals weren't a big deal. Interfering with another companies new equipment quote is. Insinuating that they can interfere or block a new pool service company is. One of the owners, Nick , said "we know all pool companies in SD" and that they "speak with each other". A dry threat that I can't hire another company. Nick, it's a consumer's right to shop around, bud. Trying to make a couple hundred bucks cost your company ~$2200 a year. Very unprofessional. read more

We've been using Golden State Pools (originally Pacific Chemicals when we moved to San Diego in 2019) for almost six years. For a short time, we were required to use another pool service to "start up" our pool after a major remodel, but GSP was superior in every way: conscientious, competent, and lower cost! They can handle just about any technical or other problem that a pool could have, and maintain it in excellent running condition - always perfectly clean. Giovannia, our current technician, has been with GSP for about a year, and is totally reliable. He has never missed a service, and always measures the chemistry, adjusts as needed, and honors special requests (such as delaying adding conditioner when we know that we will be using the pool that day). On every visit, he cleans the pump pre-filter and thoroughly cleans the surface and bottom of the pool and spa, and tells us about anything that we need to know. Pool service is not a job that many intelligent young people will keep forever, but we're very pleased with Giovanni and GSP and hope that he'll continue to be our service technician. read more

Mr. Darosa and his company, GSP, basically fired us/ quit. They gave me less than one week notice that I needed to find another company to maintain my pool. I don't feel this extremely short notice is a professional way to treat a client. We spoke on Saturday 9/23 and the following Friday 9/29 was the last day of service. The truth is they couldn't figure out how to maintain my pool algae free and still make money. Look at the attached photos, this is my spa 3 days after their last visit servicing my pool and spa. The pool was similar, you just couldn't see it in the photos. Just for reference the last day of service was Friday 9/29. These photos were taken Monday 10/2. They are time stamped. That same day I took a trip to Leslie's Poolmart and spent $400 in pool chemicals. GSP asked me to replace my pool water (28,000 Gallons). Unfortunately, even after draining and replacing my pool's water 1 and 1/2 times in the last 2 months and still this is the way they left my spa and pool. Yes, I am frustrated, primarily because this is the way my pool was left after using them for a long time and that they gave me only 6 days' notice (1 visit) before they quit. I have taken over my pool service again myself and it looks great. We can use it again. Maybe I will just keep doing it myself again. read more

We have had Gio as our main technician for a while now and he has been great. Makes the pool care look easy and we know this because we have attempted to maintain the pool ourselves and just never get it to be as clear or as well-maintained. Gio is always pleasant and helpful. He's also very communicative on those rare occasions when there is bad weather or other hindrances. The company as a whole has been great. The only thing I would like to see is more payment options. Working from home today, I just had a very pleasant conversation with Ray and wanted to give an honest review of this wonderful company. Golden State Pools has been serving both of our properties for over just under three years now. I have never had to think twice about the condition of our pools and spa when entertaining clients or having the grandchildren over. This is a long overdue review. I took over a rental property that my mother owns in February. When I arrived the pool looked like a swamp. Ray has changed the swamp back into a pool in a matter of weeks without having to drain the pool. I am new to the system and didn't know how to turn on the jacuzzi as well.
