This place bought my account from Dave's pool service. They didn't do as good as Dave. They have a technician that will ignore algae on some of the pool walls and take photos deceptively in the weekly reports that make it look like he did a good job. This place is on the expensive side, immediately raising the price after acquiring my business. If you find something lacking in their service, the owner Matt will call and find a way to turn into a foggy upsell like cleaning your filters because despite the water readings on their reports the algae is from poor pool conditions. He did offer an unaccepted free month, to his credit; a free month doesn't address that the pool needs to actually be cleaned or that the technician deceptively reports the cleanings. They took apart and hosed down the filters leaving the area looking permanently covered in chalk, and ultimately admitted there was nothing wrong with the water quality to warrant anything other than the fact the guy wasn't cleaning all the walls. So I paid an expensive additional service charge as a penalty for their bad service. They will sell your account to other companies without any notice to you, the new company gave a great first demonstration on why I needed to hire a pool company of my choice. McKinney's has 1 great technician, Cecil Hale, who is worth what this place charges. I continued their service after the negative experience on the condition it only be Cecil working on my pool. The pool looks great when he works on it, and I would give him 5 stars. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with McKinney's regarding their pool cleaning services. We hired them based on their reputation, but unfortunately, the service we received was far from what we expected. The cleaning was consistently subpar--there were always visible debris and algae left in the pool, and the water never seemed as clear as it should have been. When I reached out to address these issues, I was met with unhelpful responses and no real action. After multiple visits, the pool still looked dirty. Matt ended up saying it was the filters that needed cleaning. They cleaned the filters twice in August and September (back to back) which is extremely uncommon and charged us for both. We never saw them actually clean the filter the second time so we just decided we would cancel with them and have the loss. I would not recommend them for pool cleaning, as their service was both unreliable and unsatisfactory. If you are currently a customer here do yourself a favor and go to Leslie's and test your water for free and make sure that McKinney's is actually putting in the necessary chemicals to keep your pool clean. read more

Ryan is a real pro. We came from another pool service that just changed ownership, and they sent Ryan right put to get our pool and spa covered. The water has NEVER been this clean until he got to work. The pool is scrubbe, the filters clean and the bottom of the pool SPOTLESS. The spa coverage is 100% as well. Ryan will let me know what is going on and if anything is needed. His recommendations are always in your best interests and not to make a sale. He also can recommend how to care for your spa cover, your pool cover and hoses, and if they need some EDIT! Cole is the tech that will definitely keep your equipment running at full power with no issues. He is the introductory tech who started our route with AMAZING work. Having Ryan take over was an absolute blessing. Overall, one of if not the BEST pool service providers I've ever had. If you get Ryan, consider your day made. read more

Cannot say enough good things about Mckinneys pool service! After a few bad experiences with different pool companies, and even trying to maintain the pool ourselves, we finally hired this company to service our pool. Cole comes by weekly and we even get a pool report via email with a picture of our pool. I've gone through several pool people since I've lived in this home, and none were as good as McKinney's. Of course, they're a bit pricey compared to the others; but you get what you pay for. My pool servicer arrives at the same time every week - even on holidays! - and gets the job done quickly and efficiently. He always leaves my pool sparkling clean and sends an email after each visit with photos and numeric values for my pool's pH, chlorine content, etc. This past month, he did a major clean out of my pool filter, which took him upwards of an hour because it was so filthy! When he was finished, it looked good as new! This kind of work gives me confidence that I can trust this company to keep my pool's best interest at heart. I purchased a new heater after a lot of agonizing over brands, reviews, prices etc. I decided on a Jandy based on recommendations from pool experts and not a few bad reviews. The installer was AJ. I have to say that he was fantastic. Unfortunately it was hot as hell as he worked in the sun. He was very meticulous in his approach to the configuration of the plumbing. Matt McKinney sold my service account to La Jolla/Del Mar pool service. Said company neglected my pool and it had to be drained and continued to bill me after services were cancelled. I left a bad review and Matt was very eager to have it removed. McKinney's resumed service for a little while before selling my account to A plus/Hydroluxe who performed "repairs" that were not authorized and billed me without a signed service contract. I received no proof that the work was even necessary. Beware, they might sell your account to a sketchy company. It happened to me twice. Matt, don't bother contacting me. McKinney's service team and techs are above par, the care and attention they give is superb, and their price is competitive. So why 3 stars? Because last McKinney tried to impose a mandatory "13th-month" extra payment so we customers would foot the bill for their annual employee holiday bonuses. Not only was this extra payment never disclosed in the contract I signed less than 2 months before, the notice was delivered in what looked like the typical holiday postcard junk mail companies tend to send out. I've been a small business owner for 45 years and this was the first time I encountered such a sneaky move. I refused to pay, was not charged, and seriously considered cancelling their service. I didn't, and in retrospect am glad because the health of my pool is important to me and my family. However, if they pull this very stupid move again this year, I will cancel and post another Yelp review to that effect. read more

I had two broken actuators and a leaking pool pump. Way too much for me to fix myself. They came out promptly and fixed our pool got it running again in less than a day. I hired this company to perform an acid wash on the pool. The work was okay, and they said they also do weekly service, so I hired them for service. I used their service for approximately 6 months but it was not an easy relationship. I was told the same technician would be providing service but every week someone new came out which caused problems with our community gated entrance because a new person not on the approved list would showed up. Shortly after signing on, I was notified that my account got sold to another company, and a different pool service company came out. Then, they told me that they wanted to keep my account, and I again asked if I would have the same service technician, and I was told "yes". It is difficult to tell how large or small this company is or if it is going through some transitions, but the company, at this time, is very poorly run. Apparently, in order to keep my account they assigned a technician (Seth) to my account and the pool was being serviced properly. By January, Seth "no showed" for one appt, then in February and March, two more appts were missed. As it was explained to me, Seth is actually the director of operations and he only took my pool on for weekly service to keep the account. The final week of service a new technician (AJ) was sent out and he left pool valves out of balance so that my spa is getting too much water and overfilling. I asked to have Seth fix the problem caused by AJ but his only offer was to send out the same technician who created the problem. After much back and forth, they essentially claimed that they were unable to send out a technician to fix the problem until it was properly diagnosed. IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THEIR TECHNICIAN CREATED!! All I can say is that I gave this company every opportunity to get their act together, but after six months I gave up. I would avoid this company as their are poorly run, don't have trained technicians, and are reluctant to correct their own mistakes. I revised my review from 1 star to 2 stars after the company saw my review and sent Seth out to fix the problem that their technician created. I appreciated that he tried to set things right. read more

Each pool company gets better and better! This is the third and the best so far! Cole the technician is patient, friendly and does a great job! He evens has a portable battery back attached to his waist to vacuum the pool instantly at each cleaning - sides walls and bottom, as needed. First time I have seen that! We've had McKinney's servicing our pool for a couple of months after buying a new house in Poway (Ellis is our technician). He shows up reliably, is personally pleasant to deal with, and we chat about the state of the pool whenever I see him. My sense is that Ellis is somewhat new at being a pool technician, but he is enthusiastic and seems to be doing a good job. I have had to make points with him a couple of times about what he should be doing during his visits, but he is responsive to these comments. McKinneys has a setup where they send you an email after each service. This is not a bad thing, but I would prefer it had a higher information content. I already have plenty of pictures of my pool! It would be nice to see a schedule when unusual services were last performed, when they were due for this again, and so on. It would be nice if there were a simple way for the owner to get in touch with the tech to ask questions and so on. McKinneys seems like they are doing a good job for us so far. read more
