Giving this 5 starts because owners are awesome and great music , zero stars to jerk parents that let their kids run rampant with zero supervision throwing hard footballs that ... ended up hitting my husband in the back of the head ... and another one hit someone's damn food a few tables away. Parents did nothing and everyone said that's the price to hang out at backyard Murphys are the unruly kids.... I don't think that's cool and parents need to watch their kids because it's a damn daycare and not relaxing , and I have three young kids. Not a chance in hell am I gonna let them do cartwheels, throw jenga bricks, footballs at guests, it's an insurance lawsuit waiting to happen and I urge the owners to not allow parents to let their kids run wild . read more

Cute spot with a big patio - not sure if there is another place in Murphy with that large of a patio space. Definitely a good spot for families with young children. I can't really vouch for the food and I'll explain why... The problem here is the service time. The first guy that took our food and drink order was awesome but it went downhill after that. We ordered, they brought the food out but got my friends order wrong. We didn't correct them bc It was taking forever just to get someone back to the table and we figured by the time we would have mentioned It that we would be stuck waiting again forever. They dropped the food off we sat there for almost 20 minutes waiting for silverware. When someone finally brought silverware over she plopped 2 sets on my friends plate and walked off...my friend had a burger..I had chicken and waffles so I was the one that needed the actual silverware. It was odd to say the least. We like to have drinks - but it took forever to get more drinks, we would have ordered more and spent more but it was taking foreverrrr. It wasn't because they were too busy, there's a ton of ppl working and walking around. My friend had a bug in her beer, and I had one on my plate. This could be due to the fact we were outside but we were just kinda over it by then. I will say the first guy who helped us was amazing he must be a manager or lead of some sort. Seemed like food was frozen and reheated. Food was luke warm when it arrived to table. Kids lemonade cost $3.50 and meal was only $4.99. We spent $75 plus tip for 3 kids meals, 2 adult meals and 2 beers. Nothing authentic, nothing special. I would spend my money elsewhere. read more

We gave this place a try since it had patio seating and were pleasantly surprised. To be honest, it was a little jarring to see so many indoor diners maskless and the restaurant so full, but to be fair, we haven't been out much at all! That aside, the patio was very pleasant- it was a little cooler than we were expecting, but they had their heaters going so it was nice. I ordered the ribs with sweet potato fries and they were delicious! I love ribs but don't have them often and these were definitely worth the mess, and the fries were really crispy. My husband had the boneless wings and brisket deviled eggs for appetizers, and he liked both. In fact he went back the next day or so for the wings again! My daughter was not hungry at the restaurant, but we ordered a cheeseburger for her to go and she liked it very much as well. The only (minor) drawback was the live entertainment was a little loud, but I'm old I guess! He was actually quite good- we just had a little trouble talking to each other. Aside from that, it was overall a very enjoyable experience and we will probably visit again as the weather gets nicer and check out more of their menu! read more

Really excited to try this place, love the concept. Food was really just ok - but with a few minor tweaks could have been really really good. Pepper Poppers - Excellent, Burgers (both regular and brisket) way over cooked (well past well done - related we were never asked how we wanted them), deviled eggs were good, kids corn dogs were good, pulled pork sandwich was good. Staff needs to be completely replaced (and we only did takeout), and please please please fix the menu situation - the website says see facebook, facebook says see website (both say they have a limited menu right now - but when you go in the menu seems to be the full thing - which yelp has a picture of. read more

We've eaten here twice. The deviled egg brisket, all the brisket items and pulled pork items are delicious. The banana pudding is to die for. Today we ate brunch. Brisket sandwich was outstanding. Chicken and waffles were very good. It is a shame that a restaurant with good food had HORRIBLE service. The wait staff never can bring the right items out. People sit at tables with no drinks or no silverware or drinks and wait long periods of time to get their order taken. Different people show up with duplicates of the wrong drinks, parts of orders come then after several reminders to different wait staff the rest of the order comes. They need to get their wait staff organized. Sadly, we will not eat here again. read more

Do not go to this place if you are looking for a restaurant that is following the CDC guidelines regarding to COVID. I went to this restaurant on Sunday (10/11) with my husband and my two young kids because we were looking for a place with an outdoor patio. After we sat we were approached by a waiter not wearing his mask so I requested him to wear it. Also there were a couple of other young waiters not only without masks, but replacing / fixing the outdoor trash bags without gloves or hand sanitizer around and going straight to other customers' tables to hand out their menus. Food was okay, but would not recommend this restaurant if you are a customer who care about the way your food has been handled and safety measures regarding the spread of COVID. They are not considerate of the customers who prefer to sit outdoors in their patio for safety reasons. read more

I am simply amazed that folks have rated this place they way they have. I really hate, hate to give bad reviews, & the service here was the best we've had in a long time. However, food was not good. I hate to give 2 stars here. The good: wait staff incredibly friendly, very welcoming. The owner is a great guy, & he was so friendly & really makes you feel at home. The space is awesome & has a lot of potential. The patio is very cool. This place would be a great hang for some drinks. Corn-hole is available to play. The not so good: Food..at least what we ordered. There's not a lot of options, but that's not a problem as long as the menu is top notch. Heck, we've all been to plenty of bbq joints that had a small menu, but knocks your socks off. This place did not. So many great reviews for this place, but it was not great for us. I'm sorry to say that the ribs weren't good. Couldn't pick up any flavors of rub, smoke or even from the grill. Seems like they were cooked in a pressure cooker or oven. My wife got the chicken meal, & that was disappointing too. Chicken breast butterflies. The breast was small, had no flavor as one would expect in a BBQ joint, a bit dry & small. The sides are ok. Its beans & corn, but not great. Service is great, but food is not. There's so much competition, especially with BBQ, & growing up in Texas, you expect so much better from a BBQ place. read more

First time here- wonderful night on the patio with great music. I rarely Yelp, but enjoying the atmosphere, food and service so much a note is needed and deserved. Immensely impressed with the service. Clearly from top down. Rain stopped just before we arrived and we wanted a patio table. Manager ( or owner?) had it taken care of right away and followed up. It is not a place I will ever return to. As previous reviewers stated, it's a bar with bar food. Dry tacos and well cooked burger. No offer of mustard or Mayo, wasn't asked how I'd like it cooked. Metal trays, brown paper towels (remember the kind from public school bathrooms) and styrofoam drink cups with lids. Though there is a "restaurant" entrance, it was not a restaurant atmosphere in terms of relaxed meal and cocktails. 2 of us, a cocktail, a beer, appetizer and dinner = $60. With metal tables, decorative metal on the wall, concrete floor, and two TVs, the room was deafening and service was slow. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. There are many other places that I would've stayed and spent more on a Saturday night, but the Backyard is not one of them. read more

Pretty underwhelmed by the quality of food we received. The brisket burger my husband got was okay, but nothing special and you could tell it was pretty low quality. However, the wings I got were awful. The buffalo flavor was off, and they were too tough to even eat. Won't be going back. read more

Tried this place on a whim, actually met the owner's wife on the way in and she made some recommendations on what to get. Can't be a bad start, right? The owners are there, so this place must get close attention 24/7. Had the brisket burger, it was alright, but nothing incredibly memorable. The fries were flavorless and a bit soggy, and $2.99 for a 20 oz drink is ridiculous. Owner is engaging, but seems to try to fish for compliments if you are not specific on what you thought of the food. Gave a tip to Maddie anyway because a glass broke and some lady, who I would guess is kind of a shift lead/manager (had a blue uniform shirt on) got onto her about it. I have to think this location has been here for more than 1-2 years, so I'm not sure why the place is so overpriced for what you get. Definitely pub food with a pub feel, nothing extraordinary or memorable, especially for $17 and change for a brisket burger, fries and drink. read more

Last night was our first time to dine in on the patio and it was an excellent experience! We waited in the line opening night for the four for 40 and it was fantastic. Everything we've had from Backyard Murphy has been fabulous. finally a family friendly place in Murphy that has very eclectic menu options - everything is fantastic- the ribs fall off the bone - chicken is fresh - the corn is so good you can tell it just came off the cob - the beans must've been soaking for hours on end! The deviled eggs we're delish! Our son gobbled up the fries and corn dogs like there was no tomorrow l! I can't wait to see all the new menu additions in the days and weeks ahead. Went there to eat once food was cold and not with much flavor , they constantly ask you if your okay and it gets annoying over time . My servers name was maddy and she treats her coworkers like shit excuse my language but if i owned a restaurant i wouldn't have a worker like her . the owner is cheap with the margaritas watched them make it and they fill the entire cup with ice pores some of the mix and puts even more ice and it costs $14 , just seems a little ridiculous !!! definitely would not recommend spending your money there on alcohol it's a total rip off read more

We are from out of town and came to Backyard Murphy based on Yelp reviews. Food was great and the fact that they have 3 dining areas and 2 bars allows us to keep our social distance if we so choose. Service was great too, Tim kept checking in on us and was super personable! We'll definitely revisit, especially when the full menu is back in place! read more

Stopped by Friday evening to grab a beer and live music. Place was very busy. Server was obviously slammed but incredibly pleasant and apologetic for any delay in our getting service but, considering the crowd, she did fantastic. We just attempted to have dinner and it was served ice cold, fries were hard and the nachos were cold as well. The ribs we actually frozen in the middle and our waitress confirmed this by touching all of our food. I wish I had better things to say about this place but I can't. read more
