    Pork Ribs, sausage, turkey, brisket

Me and my Bfs favorite bbq place (and we've eaten bbq all throughout Texas) I personally love their turkey the most- he loves the brisket- everything is super tender, I've never gotten dry meat here- the ribs are amazing- nothing is to greasy, and the BBQ sauce is DELICIOUS + can never skip the Mac and cheese it's so good. 100% recommend this place.

Leftover fat from Brisket & Tri-tip

I just left the restaurant so my memory is relatively intact. I ordered a combo plate of Brisket & Tri-tip at $18.50. At checkout I noticed a $3.00 "up charge". It was explained to me it was due to the price of beef .......Their menu is a chalk board.....why not change it to state "$21.50" for the combo ? Duh ! I had water and that CUP cost $0.50. Of course on the ticket , I had options ranging up to 25% for TIP ! This is a self serve restaurant...order/pickup at the counter . So I left a zip tip. The bad news was both meats consisted of 2/3 FAT. I even took a photo !2

TX BBQ rocks! Service and ambience: Backwoods BBQ is located 5min drive from the Fredericksburg Main Street which is perfect because it's away from the tourists as well as hustle and bustle of the wineries. The place is big and can accommodate many BBQ lovers. Don't worry about parking spaces either. There was a live music during our visit which made it super cool too. Food: Delicious! You must come and try it when you are in the area. All meats were moist, tender, and well seasoned. They offer good selection of tasty side dishes to accompany their tasty meats. Soft drinks, tea, coffee and beers are available to order. Pricing: Affordable and well worth it!

The barbecue is delicious and permeated with what I believe is mesquite smoke! I love their pork ribs. They are meaty and tender and spicy with salt and coarse pepper. The sausage is so good and is coarse grind and beef, I think. The beef brisket has a great flavor and I prefer the fatty cut. Backwoods also serves beef ribs and pork chops, but I've never tried them. . Thursday is the rib lunch special. Friday night is steak night is one I'm looking forward to trying. As far as I know, all of the sides and desserts are made from scratch and are delicious. The pinto beans are really good and...BONUS they are free. Soooo, every plate comes with 2 sides which doesn't include beans! Every body is so friendly and welcoming at Backwood's. It's the closest thing to the original Cooper 's barbecue in Mason, Tx that you will find. Try it ! You will be back again soon. It's like old school Texas Barbecue.

Visited Backwoods bbq with a large group of people. 18 of us. They had a table reserved and the food was good. You order cafeteria style and then find a seat. We had the brisket and turkey. The creamed green beans were the star of my plate! The pasta salad was bland. The pork ribs were good but I had a taste of the beef ribs and they were legit!

As a Texas Native it is good bbq, but not quite 5 stars. The brisket was a bit dry and the line was long to order but the ribs and turkey were great. Service was good and you will leave with the great smell of smoked meat! (A plus in my book.).

Good spot for yummy brisket, sausage, ribs and more. Outside the restaurant in the back you'll see piles of oak firewood for the smoker. I love the 2-meat sandwich with sliced brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage - same price as the 1-meat sandwich. While you can get the sandwich only, for about a dollar more you can enjoy a side such as firm macaroni and cheese or cheesy green beans. Pair your Texas BBQ with some iced tea or a bottle of beer. My only complaint is that the cobbler and pie frequently sell out early, so I assume they must be good.

Spicy sausage and turkey plate. Mac and cheese and creamed corn sides with complimentary beans.

Ribs were really good, very tender, as was brisket. Was pretty expensive so not sure I'd go back.

The food is really good, but the portions are fit for a kid--not an adult. Service is always professional and servers are kind.

Unfortunately, one of the chairs had some kind of black ink stain that I didn't notice initially. As a customer, I shouldn't have to monitor the cleanliness of the establishment to ensure a pleasant dining experience. When I brought this issue to the manager's attention, his response was that he didn't stain the chair and implied it was the customers' responsibility. That approach felt dismissive and not at all aligned with good customer service. While he did apologize and offered me a bag of chips and a drink after I spent $18 on my meal, it felt inadequate. I chose not to accept his offer because a more professional response would have made a significant difference. I understand that accidents happen, but there should have been measures in place to inspect tables and chairs to prevent such issues. I would have appreciated it if he had considered compensating my meal, but he insisted that doing so would come out of his pocket. I wasn't looking for anything extravagant; I just wanted a more mature approach to addressing the dirty chair that ended up staining my shorts. This experience has led me to decide not to return to this location. I hope the owner takes the time to discuss customer service with his son and emphasizes the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the establishment. Accountability is crucial in customer service. Additionally, whenever I bring my family there, we usually spend close to $100 on sandwiches, visiting at least once or twice a month. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case, as this experience has left a negative impression.

So make sure you come on the right days and close to noon or you're out of luck! I'll be waiting with the getaway car to load up on some of that cranberry walnut batch guaranteed. The lady who helped us here was an absolute delight. I was overwhelmed with all the great options and she gave me great info and her opinion, as well as asked if I was more in the mood for something hot or cold. She really helped me narrow things down. I ended up with a delicious Chicken Ceasar wrap in spinach tortilla and this beauty gave me two meals out of one box. I will have to come back for their reuben and one of their nicely portioned salads chock full of all the colors of the rainbow. They had a lovely bar where you can set up a laptop and people watch, as well as a beautiful outside patio with umbrellas to recline at. Unfortunately, this experience felt less like a restaurant opening and more like a dress rehearsal no one stopped. First problem: location confusion. We went to what turned out to be their second spot--which, crucially, was not called Nurys on the sign. Same ownership, new space, old identity crisis. Walking in felt like entering a building that hadn't yet decided what it wanted to be when it grew up. The lingering aroma? A strange duet of fish, antiseptic, and industrial cleaning agents. Not hunger-inducing. More "urgent care with a fryer." There was no one there, which made sense--it was between brunch and lunch--but somehow the wait for food felt disproportionately long for what arrived. What arrived, sadly, was mediocrity wearing a Tex-Mex costume. They seemed to be aiming for Tex-Mex but landed somewhere closer to Tex-Flex--stretching flavors thin until they snapped. The barbacoa was fatty in a way that suggested less "slow-cooked tradition" and more "glistening regret." It didn't taste authentic, or even especially intentional. Just heavy. The guacamole--perhaps the most unforgivable offense--was bad. Guacamole is avocados, salt, lime, and love. That's it. This had none of the above. The waitstaff wasn't rude, exactly--just possessed by the clear energy of people who would prefer you to finish quickly so they could resume their real lives. Hospitality should feel like an invitation, not a countdown. Now, maybe the original Nurys is wonderful. I hope it is. But if that's the case, why open a second location only to phone it in? Expansion should mean excellence multiplied, not care divided. There are too many good places in Fredericksburg doing things right to settle for something half-hearted. This one wasn't terrible--it was worse. It was forgettable. And that's the real disappointment.

Right away, the service felt off. Our waitress didn't even ask if we wanted drinks before jumping straight to, "Are you ready to order food?" Then she disappeared for long periods, even though we were basically her only table besides one other couple. The food was extremely underwhelming -- basic, barely warm, and nothing memorable. On top of that, there were so many flies inside that we were nonstop swatting them away. And to make matters worse, there was a bug in my drink when it was served to me. That was pretty much the final straw. Overall, a very forgettable and disappointing experience. We probably won't come again, and I would not recommend it.
