My wife and I came to this restaurant since it was highly rated. We drove from Fredericksburg to try it out. Well, it was great all around. Food was delicious. I had the "Carnitas" plate and my wife had the "Taco Salad" minus the beef. Additional guacamole was served with the Taco to compensate for dropping the beef. We were seated in the screened area which we liked very much. The ambiance was good. The main area was full since we arrived a 12 noon. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Clean and cheerful, this yummy Harper outpost is definitely worth the drive from Kerrville or Fredericksburg. The staff are very friendly and efficient, bringing our coffees within 3 minutes of ordering. Excellent coffee, hot and fresh and served in great handmade ceramic mugs. The round shape was perfect for warming hands on a chilly winter morning. Awesome micheladas, too. The Mexican breakfast burrito was filled with deliciousness. Cheesy and flavorful, it's a filling meal with eggs a la Mexicana (onions and chiles and tomato) and chorizo and TexMex red chile gravy over the top. The cheese enchiladas and eggs were spectacular, and were served with equally excellent refried beans. Pro tip: cover your eggs, enchiladas, or burrito with equal amounts of the complex green and red salsas, conveniently served in pancake syrup pourers. This is the second visit for the family, the first being lunch a month earlier. Enchiladas verde, Jalisco (carne asada) burrito, and a California burrito (with french fries inside). Lunch specials are $8.99 include drink, options are basically 4-5 different enchilada options, carne guisada, or tacos. Food is well-seasoned, but not overpowering. They appear to have a full bar and beer selection. Pay at counter. This place (Harper, TX) is growing with a lot of out of town guests and transplants, but seems to have a "not-just locals only" welcome feel. read more

I think this is the finest Mexican restaurant around. I've eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. Their homemade tortillas are excellent and most Mexican restaurants use store bought. I've never had a bad meal. The service is outstanding. As professional Mexican food connoisseurs, from Houston, we know what we are talking about, so trust us when we say that this place is amazing. I'll give them 3 stars for a pretty good breakfast of huevos rancheros a few days before the supper fiasco next described. The frozen margarita was so bitter I had to dope it up with sugar. It went downhill from there when the fajitas arrived. They appeared to have been cooked in a crock-pot. The meat was tough and greasy. I can't describe the horrible taste. I attempted to get it down by drowning it in hot sauce. I finally gave up and tried to salvage a little value out of the $32 I was rooked out of by taking the rest home to my dog. To my surprise the dog gave the meat a good review and, so far, has exhibited no bad side effects. However, it took 36 hours, several brushings and gargling with mouthwash to get the oil slick out of my mouth. Adios, Los Tres Potrillos. read more
