Asian Garden was an absolute delight the two lunches we had there as it was located just down the street from Texas Heritage Pavilion where we had a three day conference. First lunch special I had the jalapeño chicken and shrimp with crab Rangoon and hot sour soup. It was good, not too spicy at all. My companion had the shrimp fried rice with egg roll and wonton soup. Next day we both chose the Almond Chicken. This was an absolute hit for us both. As you can see in pic, sliced almonds covered out plate. This dish also included a wide variety of vegetables which I loved. This day I also chose egg drop soup. Lunch $10.99. Nice portions. Great service. read more

Went to this Asian restaurant while in Fredericksburg and it was ok. The chicken was decent but the Kung Pao Beef was really good. They also serve alot of portion so you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is clean and quiet. Service is fast. The lunch special is very fairly priced. I did not like the flavor of my hot and sour soup or orange chicken plate. The broccoli was not cooked long enough. The egg roll was gross. The rice was cooked really well, and serving sizes are the perfect size. I threw up in the restaurant bathroom toward the end of the meal. (This is very unusual for me.) The rest of my party did not get sick, so I think the hot and sour soup (only I ordered) was bad today. read more

We really enjoy this place. If you come before 6pm they have specials to include soup and egg rolls or crab rangoon (? sp) The wait staff are always attentive, your glass will never go empty. The restaurant is clean and so are the bathrooms! Today we brought some friends there for dinner. We all had dishes with garlic sauce. Everyone enjoyed their meals which were more than enough food. We came with a group of 15 (half of them kids) to celebrate a birthday during the holidays. The owners were so gracious with the kids and gave them chocolates and candy canes. The food here is perfectly proportioned and very tasty. We ordered a variety of dishes. I like you can pick dark or white meat on the chicken dishes. The standouts were the orange chicken and the lo mein. My father-in-law got a sweet and sour combination and said it was very good. The restaurant is quiet and clean and very neat. Solid Chinese food, tastes good and very consistent. Portions are generous (something that's more rare than ever lately). We usually get ours to go and the service is very quick, it's always ready by the time we make the short drive over. For small-town Hill Country Chinese food - this is a solid choice. The staff bring some really good Chinese and assorted Asian fare to Fredericksburg. I have dined here many times and am impressed with the selections available, as well as the quality. I think I have gone out more for Chinese here than back in the DFW metroplex, as this is one of Mama J's favorites. When we bring my mom here, we usually get the same items: hot and sour soup, wonton soup, spring rolls, steamed dumplings, and Crab Rangoon. We just split a bunch of appetizers and have a family style meal of it. The food comes out fast, hot, and delicious every time. The dumplings are as good as any I have had anywhere, and the restaurant's house made mustard (take small doses first) makes for elevating your egg rolls (and tolerance) to new levels. Did I warn you about the mustard? Don't come here expecting Texas Hill Country hospitality, though, the staff is more businesslike than friendly, but they are hustling to get you served with some seriously legit food. Tomorrow (04/03/22) we will see how takeout goes after a 25 minute drive. It is worth the venture. read more

The only reason they did not get the 5th star is because the sizzling rice soup was sub par. The broth needed to be hotter and needed more of it in comparison to the rest of the ingredients. Everything else was magnificent. We used to live in Orange County, California so we have a certain expectation of Asian cuisine. Checked out Asian Garden on the way out into the Hill Country. Have had local competitor Panda before a few years back and gave it 3 stars if I remember. Yeah, it's me James F. reminding everyone there's no good German food in Fredericksburg. I'm in fact on a mission to try every restaurant that's not focused on Essen aus Deutschland. Located just before the main drag, AG is nestled in a nice shopping center. Upon entering, I was surprised to see liquor bottles. Not exactly a full bar here folks; just a few surprise cocktails on the menu along with beer and wine. The interior of the restaurant was SUPER clean. Our server in fact was cleaning the carpet with a small rechargeable vacuum while not assisting his tables. Was kinda astonished at this. Not because I was worried about him kicking dust into my soup; was just imagining a local teenager barely able to put his cell phone down while hiding near the kitchen. So far, Asian Garden is a win in service and cleanliness. Let's dive into the food shall we? Egg drop and hot and sour soups were good starters. You also receive a small bowl of wonton strips to accompany the soup. Redneck tip here, dip them in the table provided sweet and sour for Asian chips and salsa lol. Yeah, they don't call me the Country Bumpkin foodie for nothin' I felt the crab rangoon could have spent a little more time in the fryer. The texture of the wrapper chewy instead of a normally crunchy golden brown. Girlfriend had shrimp, scallops, and veggies with me selecting General Tso's chicken. She had issue with the shrimp still having tails on; I thought my sauce could have been more spicy without offending the local palate. Another first here too; they asked what type of chicken I wanted. Normally, Tso's is traditionally thigh meat. I chose white just to try it out with good results. Fried rice and egg rolls met our expectations for any mom and pop type joint you'd find in a big city. Couple of missteps warrants a star knocked off. I'd totally dine here again over the Panda (Not Panda Express) joint down the road. Now I'm wishing the Chinese settled Gillespie County instead of Germans! read more

The batter for the orange chicken tasted moldy. The rice was moldy tasting. General Tso moldy tasting too. Somebody was spraying cockroach killer near our table. If you need a spray for cockroaches do it when customers are gone. read more

I would say the food averaged out to 3 1/2 stars. Some items were barely average but some were really good. I rounded up for service. After an extremely long and exhausting drive, we were worn out and all we wanted to do when we got to town was eat and relax. After some searching online, we chose calling in an order to Asian Gardens to bring back to the guest house. They have an easy to view menu online and were quick to answer the phone. They were efficient in taking the order and asking follow up questions. The only thing I thought was odd was they didn't take a name for the order, just put the phone number and order receipt on the bag. They were very friendly on the phone as we placed an order for the flaming combination (pu pu platter) and an order of pork fried rice. However, when I ran inside to pick up the order, I witnessed extreme patience from the man at the register while he very calmly dealt with a Karen that had me rolling my eyes hard. Because she would not leave the register, I had to wait 10 minutes even though I could see my order (and several others) on the bar. While waiting I saw they had packages of almond cookies on the counter and I love almond cookies so I added that on my order and was out in less than 2 minutes once it was my turn. You can get the flaming combination for 2 for $16.50 or for 3 for $22.50. Our portion for 2 was worth the price and included egg rolls, ribs, crabmeat rangoon, fried shrimp, chicken wings and beef cho-cho. The ribs were too chewy and lacked any real flavor. The beef cho-cho was delicious and tender and I could have eaten those forever. I also thought the fried shrimp was great! The chicken wings and egg rolls were below average and the rangoon was average. The wings were just too stringy, fatty and greasy to try again. I don't recall the price of the pork fried rice but it was heavy on the veggies and light on the pork, which was a little tough. The fried rice itself was fine, but I probably should have gotten beef or chicken instead. The almond cookies were 10 for $2 and while several were broken, they were perfectly buttery and exactly what you want from an almond cookie! I saw they had special lunch hours and sushi hours from 11am to 3pm. I would have liked to participate in those if it wasn't dinner time and I wasn't anxious to get back and eat in my pajamas. So some hits and misses, but overall met expectations and they had the food ready in a very reasonable amount of time. It was exactly what we needed that night and I appreciated them. If we find ourselves in town again I would try them during lunch and get more of a variety. read more

What a great little find off the tourist trap strip. I was really surprised on how good the food and service was here! Overall broad selection on the menu; we ordered the General Tso Chicken and the Mongolian Beef for lunch. The soup and entrees was hot and fresh. Most of these Chinese restaurants dump a bunch of sugar and syrup in everything on the menu. Food was prepared perfectly. Service was awesome! Asian Garden is a good choice if you are in the Fredericksburg atea and want Chinese food. On this visit I had the shrimp with vegetables plate from the special luncheon menu (3:00pm to 6:00pm). I found the portion smaller than other times and dry. There was no white sauce in the meal. However, I still give it 4 stars because the place is clean and comfortable and the taste is good. read more

I came here for lunch one day while visiting the area. I figure if most of the German restaurants are getting 3 or 3.5 stars, but the local Chinese restaurant is 4.5, it must be decent. No doubt Asian Garden is an economical option for a sit down restaurant in town. I ordered the luncheon portion of the black pepper steak with won ton soup and egg roll. Sadly, I thought the food was just average, but I did enjoy the drink special of the day, the mai tai for only 5.75. Maybe I've been spoiled by all the other Americanized Chinese restaurants I've visited over the last 30 years in various cities. My server told jokes each time visiting the table, which was okay but I really wasn't paying any attention and it became a little annoying toward the end. They also offer early bird pricing if you come early for dinner, which will save you a few bucks. read more

I wish we had photo's of the food. We ordered for delivery and were staying at a hotel nearby. After a fruitless couple of hours wandering around looking for a place that wasn't packed to the gills we decided on enjoying the wine we got at 4.0 Cellars and have meal in the room. The food came promptly and was still very hot. We dove into all of it and didn't think to take pictures until it was too late.
