We loved it! This was our first time at Soaring Dragon. As we entered, the small entryway was jammed with people waiting to be seated. We were told 'about 10 minutes'. About 10 minutes later, we were seated and our drink order was being taken. A few minutes later and we had placed our lunch order. My wife got the Mushoo Pork and I got the Thai Basil Chicken and Shrimp. Both meals were great. These weren't from the lunch menu, so the portions were large. We're taking over half of each home for later. Service was super fast and very pleasant. We'd love to eat here again. read more

One of the worst of restaurant experiences! With the Sunday crowd I did only wait about 10 minutes. I was seated & a male waiter came not long after. Not having eaten there before, I had a question about two of their selections since they didn't list the Kung Pao With Chicken that I usually order. When asking it was evident immediately that he didn't understand a word I was saying in English! So I just took a chance & ordered one of the two entrees, chose an egg roll, refried rice & was going to also choose the Egg Drop Soup. But before I could get my words out, he immediately said "two egg rolls." So, I thought, okay, to make it easy I'll just go with that. My food came in a reasonable amount of time, but WITH BROWN RICE (instead of the FRIED RICE I ordered) & WITHOUT DIPPING SAUCE FOR THE EGG ROLLS, as well as NO CONDIMENTS like soy sauce on the table. I had also wanted to ask for chili sauce, but when my food came, He sat my plate down & IMMEDIATELY turned & left without a word. I saw him waiting on another table & waited to catch him for my requests, but he never looked in my direction. He was not friendly whatsoever & certainly not interested in taking my order correctly! At first I thought I would just eat what was brought, but on second thought it was certainly not what I wanted to do, especially without even the dipping sauce for the two egg rolls. It was clear that I may have to sit & wait A LONG TIME for my waiter to MAYBE come back by. So, I pondered for a moment, went up to the register, gave them a short explanation & told them I was not eating my meal & was leaving. I have NEVER done that before! So, I can't give an opinion about the food, even though the egg rolls were very small & looked like those really cheap dry ones. I don't expect to ever go there again, not only because of this experience, but because I didn't even like their entree choices & also because the tables were crammed unusually close together. It is really unnecessary to yell across the room to ask how many and then point to a seat? This has become the normal greeting. It is rude and not the ambiance you want to experience regularly. Why not just let people seat themselves? It is much more welcoming. read more

I love this restaurant and I picked it especially for a birthday dinner unfortunately the experience was nothing to celebrate. The table had a dirty lemon and half empty soy sauce bottle the noodle dish that was ordered was cold and wasn't even seasoned the fried rice wasn't fried or flavored and my tough sesame beef was not the quality I expected. I value consistency in a restaurant. I feel it is very important.We support local business, especially with chain restaurants moving in here to Kerrville. Last night was one of the biggest disappointments it was birthday dinner as well which unfortunately, adds to the unpleasantness of the situation. We received very minimal Support from the manager when we called to tell them of our experience. The 2 entrees were good. They weren't exceptionally hot, which was strange.. the side orders were atrocious. The LoMain which was not supposed to be cold was "cool " and had absolutely no flavor and the Fried Rice was anything but traditional Fried Rice. It was bland, it was soft.. with that we were not offered a credit of any kind if we come back,as professional courtesy, we were just told that they "would talk to the chef". Stopped here on the way back to San Antonio and had the general tso's chicken dinner special. It was delicious! I also enjoyed the crab rangoons. The food is always hot and fresh, even when it's being delivered way out into the countryside, everything is tasty and generously portioned, and the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Pretty good food. When I walked in to place a Togo order they told me I had 3 mins left to order from the early dinner menu. It was 7:57pm on a Sunday. That is pretty late to continue to offer the early diner discount. I took advantage of it and ordered the shrimp with veggies , egg drop soup, and a crab wonton. The wonton was pretty yummy. I really liked the shrimp with veggies. Shrimp were big, sauce was tasty. The fried rice it came with wasn't my favorite, but wasn't bag.d. I haven't tried the egg drop soup yet. This review popped up because of a recent take out order - that said - I'm a local and have ordered out many times from this place- it's always good. Staff are usually friendly. The few times I've eaten it - it's your typical Chinese restaurant.. little dark little simple not a lively restaurant. Small space but always full. We took the food to go on our road trip to El Paso TX and the kung pow chicken was fantastic.

I have eaten here now twice and enjoyed both experiences. The overall size of the restaurant is small and it didn't looked packed on either visit. This made me wonder immediately if it was an indicator that the food was bad. It wasn't. It would turn out to be an indicator that the service was fast. They simply are too attentive to let this place fill up. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated. The over all decor is decorated simply, so outwardly it's atmosphere won't blow you away. But if that's how you judge the food, you're wrong. They had a pretty great dinner and lunch special on both visits to include a buy one, get one beer free deal. We ordered some sichuan dumplings as an appetizer and a Japanese beer. I find it funny that a Chinese place 没有中国的啤酒 (didn't have Chinese beer). Both the dinner and lunch specials come with an entree, a soup, and a side of an egg role or crab Rangoon. As soon as we ordered the entree the soup arrived at the table. It was a mere few seconds after that the dumplings arrived. Both were solid in terms of flavor. And the soup came with crunchy noodles, which some Chinese places fail to have. We had barely finished our soup and we're halfway through the dumplings with our entrees arrived. I ordered the Taiwanese Chili beef. It was great and actually somewhat Spicy. Having 正在中国了 (lived in China), the flavor profile reminded me of Xinjiang. It had all the earthy and spicy flavors to put me back on 羊肠路 ordering food from the street vendor. The portions were a good size and combined with the soup and appetizer, I was quite full and unable to finish my meal. So I took it home and had ready made lunch the next day. The service in addition to being speedy was attentive, drinks never went empty. As we finished the bottom of the beers we ordered, they were prompt to prompt us for a second. To go box was also quickly delivered after asking. When the bill came: two entrees, an appetizer and two beers plus tip was under 50. From seating to departing, eating at a normal pace, we were out the door in 30 minutes. It is also important to note that they managed this while doing a steady to go order business. I'd say no fewer than 20 people came in while we dined. No one stood around waiting for their order, they picked up, paid and left. It's a solid place to get a meal. It's also what I would call decent 中国菜 (Chinese food). Especially for a town like Kerville whose "fine dining" options routinely fall flat in my eyes in terms of both flavor and price per value of meal. I would say this establishment and Sake are the best Asian-American food options in town. I will be dining here again. read more

Lucky enough to find this wonderful restaurant in Kerville, Texas. Stopped for a quick business trip and it was recommended by one of the locals. This place did not disappoint. Some of the freshest and authentic Chinese food I've had in awhile. I had the pork egg fu young in a delicious brown gravy, loaded with pork and onions, they way I like. My wife had the seasame chicken battered to perfection with a light sauce, just the way she likes it. 10 out of 10, highly recommend. We will definitely stop by next time we are in town. This place has very good food. The experience and restaurant is very fun and. My waiter was a little absent and didn't have much patience so we ended up ordering the wrong things. Although, when the food came everything looked very good and has many different flavors and colors. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and makes the experience feel very comfortable. Wanted to do something special for my 800th review. Thought about all that coin I could spend at a fancy steak place or that $$$$ grand seafood tower. In the back of my head I recalled all the excellent meals I've had a Soaring Dragon in the year or so; enter my five star nod for a strip mall Pan Asian restaurant in Kerrville, Texas. Egg drop soup is tops with out any fancy names (here's looking at you Wu Chow ATX). Hot and sour, chicken and corn, and wonton are also good bites. Appetizers have also been consistent over many visits. Dumplings, egg roll, crab rangoon, and the Daddy platter aka Pu-Pu. OK, so one fancy name that I don't mind. It's what my GF calls me at home hehe. I found the Pad Thai presentation interesting with a two egg omelette on top instead of mixed in. Noodles were flavored to my liking aka extra spicy with shrimp which is not on the menu. Soaring Dragon Shrimp along with Thai Basil Chicken have also been stellar. Couple of issues: Would love to see a fried rice entree on the kids menu. Also, if you just order water it's a bit well.....Maybe invest in a water softner. Service has always been attentive whether visiting lunch or dinner. Speaking of, they also offer early bird dining from 3-7PM and it's only a few extra bucks over the lunch prices. Don't think I've been this smitten with an Asian restaurant since the days of Wan Fu back in the early to late 90's in Austin. We dined at this restaurant this past week. My 8 year old son with a severe peanut allergy had the chicken lo mein. Before receiving his food I had asked the waiter if his dish contained any peanuts, he responded that it did NOT. We unfortunately learned the hard way that it DID in fact contain peanuts (used in the sauce). We had to take him to the emergency room because his reaction was so severe.
