This is everything that I LOVE about local restaurants. Located in an old house, we walked in the backdoor amd meandered around until we found the register. The woman behind the counter welcomed us like we were old friends even though this was our first time. We sat and had to wait a little bit before she finally came to our table. But it was 1230 and she was the only front of house person working. We didnt mind. The bathrooms had penny floors and were nothing to really talk about but the dining areas were quaint. We got into a conversation with an older couple who were eating there and it felt like we were at a dinner party. My wife got the Pad Kee Mao, hot n sour soup, and water. I got the basil lover with the same soup and a thai iced tea. Food was top notch home cooked food. The broccoli was still bright and crunchy. The noodles were great and with a 1-10 rating on spice, we were able to get ours fine tuned. My wife got a 5 and it was only a little spicy. Next time Ill probably go for a 7 or 8. I'm here in Kerrville for a two night camping trip. Lately, I have been watching nothing but Korean series on TV. That has led me on a quest for Korean food. So far, I have only been to two places in San Antonio. I haven't really tried a lot of different things. So, one day about a week ago, I jokingly asked Siri to find Korean restaurants in Kerrville. I knew that I was coming here to camp, but didn't really expect any results. Anyway, I did find a place which I tried to go to yesterday. Unfortunately, due to the Baker curse, or some other factor, it was closed due to staff illness . I went back today to give it a try, but it was still closed. Not the kind of fat man who is likely to do without a meal, I looked for other restaurants nearby. To my surprise, Thai Bistro popped up. I did not realize that there were two Thai restaurants in Kerrville. I decided, to give this one a try. OK... That was a rather lengthy start off. But, I hope you stuck around, because it was worth your while. Just trust me on that. Well, I went to the very back of the place to park. As I was walking to the restaurant I was a little concerned. It looked kind of rough back there. I found the door and went in. I had to walk through a couple of areas that seemed like they were being used for other things. More like store rooms. As I finally found the main area of the restaurant, I noticed that there was not another living soul around. Now, let me just say that this was about 12:25 PM. It kind of makes you nervous when you're the only person at a restaurant during what should be the lunch rush. While part of me was screaming, "Run, you idiot!", the other part of me was stubborn enough to stay and give it a try. A very nice lady welcomed me to the restaurant. I assumed she was the owner. She told me I could sit wherever I wanted, which almost made me giggle. I chose a dining room that faced the road. It was brightly lit, very clean, and looked comfortable. When I was given the menu, I was surprised to see that one of my favorite Thai dishes, pad woon sen, was one of the lunch specials. I ordered the beef. It came with a choice of soup, spring roll, or fried wontons. For a beverage, I went wild and ordered a Thai iced tea. OK... Let's dig into this meal. The first thing to come out was the Thai tea. It was a delicious creamy beverage with some exotic spice flavor that I was not familiar with. I really enjoyed that. In what seemed like only a few seconds, the server/owner returned with a plate holding two spring rolls and a little bowl of some kind of sweet dipping sauce. Let me tell you- those spring rolls were wonderful! Besides being a little too hot to eat right away, they were extremely crunchy and fresh. The cabbage and carrots inside were actually a bit crisp. They weren't filled with that mushy concoction of veggie paste so many places try to get away with. The last thing to come from the kitchen, was the pad woon sen. I had ordered mine with the spice level of five. The menu gave you a choice of one to 10. Knowing that Thai food can be incredibly spicy, I thought going middle of the road would be the best bet. In hindsight, I probably could have gone to a seven on the scale. But, I'm reminded of a time when I bravely told a server at another location to make mine "Thai hot" and could barely even taste it for the burning sensation in my mouth. This time, the server actually brought me a bottle of Thai chili sauce and a shaker with Thai chili powder in case I wanted to up the heat level. I decided to eat it as it came from the kitchen. It was very delicious. It was full of fresh vegetables and huge slices of beef. I don't think I've ever had any that was better than this. But then, I don't think I've ever had a bad serving of pad woon sen. Thai Bistro will definitely be a location that I put on my list for future visits to Kerrville. I camp here fairly often, and always like to eat out at least once or twice while I'm here. Kerrville seems to have just about everything I need. Maybe I'll move here when I'm older. read more

True family restaurant. Excellent food and we've tried a big percentage of the menu items. One fave is the fried tofu app; so incredibly crisp with no greasiness and great taste. All the fried rice, curry, and noodle entrees are exceptional. Service great, especially w owner. Funky building that has air leaks, creaks, unexpected level changes; it's own wacky ambiance adds to the experiencenfor me. But if you're looking for nice or fine dining experience, get it to go so you still can experience the awesome food. We eat here at least a couple times of year and have loved each item. Food is always very good. Only complaint is it looks like a junk yard or resale shop inside & outside. Have some pride & clean up! Not sure if they do bike repair on the side but counted many many bikes inside & outside last trip in. I can only assume the owners live upstairs so all stuff laying around inside & outside are just personal belongings. Pad Thai and Thai Tea with Boba are our favorites. read more

Excellent! We met a friend for lunch and everything was excellent. As part of the lunch special you can get soup or egg roll, we got egg rolls. They were brought first and they were fresh, crispy and delicious. For my entree I got Massaman curry with chicken and it was excellent. Hubby got Pad Thai and he loved it. Prices are high compared to our normal go to Thai place in town. Especially with the extra charge if you use a debit or credit card. The place is very run down and has the atmosphere of a second hand store with used bikes for sale and other various things. But again the food was acceptable but not enough to make it a regular stop. Recently gave this place another shot and must admit, I slapped myself for not trying sooner. The service is fast and the food excellent, Every side dish is a treat and probably the BEST hot and sour soup I have ever had, with a rich deep flavor that doesn't feel like some one kicked me in the back of the throat like most places serve around here. I have yet to try most of there menu but there Pad Thai is defiantly a style I have never had before and loved every bite of it, and since they ask what spice level one wants, you can get it from just enjoying the flavor to a rich burning flame of spice if that your thing. read more

I'm embarrassed to say that I've been coming to Thai Bistro since it's opening in 2015, and have not written any reviews. I'll change that now. First off, I've never, not once, been disappointed with the food or the service here. The quality of the food is very good, the portions are generous and the wait time is minimal. Today I gad the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) wide noodles stir fried with egg, broccoli, onion, and red pepper with pork and shrimp. This added $3 to the price but was well worth the added cost. The vegetables retained their proper crunch which doesn't always happen in other Asian style eateries. The shrimp were plentiful and NOT overcooked into rubberiness, You can choose your range of heat when you order. I ordered 5 which was a bit lacking in the heat department. Normally I do 10, but today I didn't want to sweat anymore than necessary! It was 96 outside. My one regret that looms large is I have a tendency to stick to the same menu item if I hit a winner. Pad Kee Mao is that winner. Next time fir the sake of any one who may stumble across this review, I'll be trying other menu items including appetizers. I never give 5 stars ad a first review But I've been coming to Thai Bistro for 5 years. I'm still puzzled why I never wrote a review. Oh well it's in the books now! read more

Should've stopped sooner! We have been driving past this place for years and kept telling ourselves "we gotta try that sometime". Well, today was that day and WOW, it did not disappoint and now I know I missed out all those years. OK. I decided to try this place based on the ratings and it came up way short. First visit was lunch. Though I usually go to Thai Ocha when in Kerrville, I decided to see if this place is worthwhile instead of doing the same old same old. Location has potential. Menu is rather limited though some of my favorite Thai dishes are on it. I ordered the Basil Lover lunch plate with level 8 spice. Egg rolls and dipping sauce were OK. The main dish had a spice level closer to 2. It was very salty as well, likely due to the Thai sauce which was actually just soy sauce. Not awful, but not what I hoped for.
