While exploring Comfort, Texas, I found this restaurant kn their main strip. I was looking for a dog friendly location. They have an outside patio and an outside garden. It looks like you can only sit with your dog in the garden part. You do have to go order inside the restaurant, so you'll have to leave your dog outside. They sell sandwiches and salads. They also have some very good pastries. You order at the counter and they give you a buzzer. Once a buzzer goes off, you go back inside to the pick up area. We shared the crab cake and the tuna sandwich. You can order half sandwich versus a whole sandwich same thing with crabcakes you can order one or two. The crab cake can come in with bread or I can come on a bed of lettuce. Both were refreshing on a hot Texas day. The tuna sandwich was thick with tuna. It was tasty. The crabcake was a good size as well. For dessert, I had the lemon pound cake. I'm still dreaming of it. It was so good. Just tart enough. They do sell beer and wine. They sell coffee too. Great little place to stop while in town. The parking is street parking and you can definitely find some. The staff member I encountered at the counter was super nice. He gave me suggestions on if I should get half order versus a full order. He was on point.

Have enjoyed this place for years. We took a family member visiting from another country and they loved the country charm. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. We had a puppy and they have seating outside on the side of the restaurant for fur babies. They even have water bowls for them. It was very comfortable sitting under the shade trees and the manager checked on us. I haven't tried anything I didn't like...this time I got the chicken salad sandwich, which was delicious. They do have beer and wine and some very delectable desserts!

We love stopping by High's to grab lunch when we're out and about. The food is always good. Their salads are wonderful. Enjoying lunch out on the deck is always fun. The staff are friendly, helpful, and all about good service. Stop in. Grab a bite. You'll be happy you did!

Met up with friends here, same as a lot of people obviously. It was packed and they had to take down the chicken pot pie special sign. Lots of tables inside and out. Order at the counter and pick up from the window when your gizmo buzzes. I had the chicken pot pie. It came with a lovely salad with balsamic dressing. Huge scone like crust on top the pie. Chicken was a little tough, dry but the gravy was delicious. The wife had havarti dill grilled cheese sandwich with bacon. A friend had the soup special. Also baked goods. As I said, lots of people. Some cool shops around also.

I just can't go to Comfort without stopping at Highs Cafe and store. In fact it is a favorite hill country destination for us. Whenever we are going hiking, biking, antiquing or just passing through Comfort, I always try to be at Highs around lunch time. The place is super clean, bright, and always cool in the summer months. The menu has a wonderful variety of house made specialties. I can never decide between the amazing crab cakes or the incredible avocado toast, so I almost always indulge and get both and I've never left hungry. The iced tea with an orange slice is always refreshing too and if you have a sweet tooth, you will love the desserts. Trust me, this place is great! I'm going to quit talking now and go grab a homemade oatmeal cookie for the road.

When we're in the Hill Country we drive to comfort just to have lunch at this restaurant. The food is delicious and service is excellent.

Came to this place after it was recommended to me by some locals. It does not look like much at first but the crowd that gathered in front of the place before opening time let me know that this place was pretty popular around town. Lots of healthy options + anything can be made gluten free! This place has counter service where you order and get a pager that goes off when your food is ready and you pick it up at a window. Even if the line seems long, they work super fast to get the line moving at a reasonable pace. For my entrée I ordered the greek salad trio that comes with chicken and tuna salad. I absolutely loved this dish. The greek salad was soooo refreshing. Every single ingredient on it tasted as fresh as can be. The tuna and chicken salad were both made perfectly and had lots of flavor. This was also a pretty decent portion. We of course could not leave without trying some of their pastries. Before leaving, we picked up a lemon pound cake and a chocolate chip oat cookie. BOTH WERE SOOOOOO GOOD but they lemon cake was out of this world. Definitely recommend this place for anyone in town!

Went for lunch during the one of their busiest weekends of the year, and there was a line out the door to the sidewalk. Yet, staff kept it moving fast and with grace. They were pleasant and happy, and never compromised on quality either. Food was great, and we were surprised at how quickly things continued to move. Our lunches were tasty and generously sized. Military discount also provided. Would recommend as a must stop!

Finding the perfect lunch spot when visiting out of town can be a bit of a challenge because there's no familiarity with the area and restaurants. Finding High's Cafe and Store, though, was pretty easy, especially because it came recommended. It was ideal for lunch, as can be attested to by the line of people waiting to order and the many more that approached our table, waiting for us to finish. In fact, I would say this was the only issue I had with High's, the high demand, pun intended. As a lunch spot, High's had a good selection of sandwiches. I ordered the Veggie-licious Sandwich, which was quite good. It came with chips and I also ordered their lemonade. The sandwich has spinach, sprouts, tomato, cucumber, onion and smash avocado, with either hummus or cream cheese. I had the cream cheese. The meal was very filling and flavorful and the lemonade was delicious. The service and atmosphere were also pretty good. As mentioned before, it was crowded, and tables were difficult to find, especially since orders are made at the counter, before finding a seat. It's a large place, but there were many people. I do recommend going in earlier than the regular lunch hour to beat the crowds. Also, we went while an event was being held in Comfort, so that contributed to the crowd. It is, however, well worth the wait.

I have been coming to this restaurant for years and I always get the same thing....the chicken Salad that's never on the menu....its always a little sign at the cash register. Explosion of flavor in your mouth...6 stars! Long lines, but patience rewards!

Great spot for a quick lunch and back to shopping! Ordered a small salad. My goodness gracious. It was huge. Boiled Shrimp with pasta and spinach, onions and garlic. Desserts looked good, but no room. Order and self serve but happy servers!

The cozy ambiance and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere. The menu has a simple array of sandwiches and salads, which are crafted with fresh ingredients and made to order. We ordered their dawg and I absolutely loved how fresh and tasty they were. Their hummus is to die for as well. The portions are generous, ensuring a satisfying meal. Prices are reasonable, making it an ideal spot for a quick and delightful lunch. Do not forget to grab a sweet treat as well, heir red velvet cupcake was amazing. For those seeking a taste of local flair, this sandwich shop is a must-visit.

Why am I just now reviewing High's Cafe? My dad and I have been regulars here for well over a year, a large percentage of the photos posted to Yelp are mine*, and I have recommended High's Cafe enthusiastically and without hesitation to coworkers and underlings. Perhaps I've been listless, lazy, or too preoccupied with uploading videos of myself conversing with dead people. Whatever the case, this laudatory five-star review (certain to be brimming with superlatives) is long overdue. High's Cafe, named after the historic High Street on which it stands, is tucked surreptitiously between two antique stores. Don't let the modest façade fool you, though; behind these walls, you will find some of the most scrumptious, fresh, delicious, creative lunchtime fare outside (or even inside) of San Antonio. Indeed, High's has become something of a destination restaurant. While waiting anxiously for the door to open at 11:00 AM, I've struck up conversations with travelers from San Antonio, Boerne, Fredericksburg, and even Toronto, Canada! I'm not sure I'd drive all the way from Canada to Comfort just for...ahem...comfort food (I know -- bad pun), but I admired this particular foodie's dedication! Every sandwich I've tried has been imbued with the same love and attention to quality. I'm talking about a chunky, flavorful chicken salad chock full of plump, juicy grapes and crisp celery; an exemplary, creamy pimento cheese made with sharp cheddar and spiked with a hint of freshly grated jalapeno; and a well-balanced muffuletta featuring a zesty, homemade giardiniera that any respectable NOLA eatery would be proud to call its own. My 'High praise' (har-har, get it?) extends to the rotating selection of soups and salads. On a recent visit, I became smitten with a curried chicken salad special featuring a snow shovel-sized portion of the titular protein. The chicken was given a tantalizing Middle Eastern twist courtesy of the smoky, earthy curry powder that blended seamlessly with the traditional mix of mayonnaise and apple cider vinegar. The greens on the bottom were fresh, as were the sliced strawberries that provided a bit of acid and sweetness to cut the richness of the chicken. An equally delightful chilled avocado soup struck a perfect balance between creamy and tangy. The dollop of fresh mango pico on top gave it a slight kick of acid and piquancy. No visit to High's would be complete without an assortment of baked goods, all of which are displayed enticingly at the counter where patrons place orders. The chocolate-walnut brownie shines bright with a moist, buttery, fudge-like interior bursting with the essence of good-quality cocoa. The chocolate-caramel-walnut cookie is also exceptional, with a moist chewy center and crumbly exterior. The hints of caramel add a subtle sweetness, but the cookie is well balanced, a far cry from the cloyingly sweet sugar bombs I've tried at other bakeries nearby. Service is unwaveringly friendly and ingratiating, the kind of warm, laid-back hospitality that seems to exist only in small towns. The owner, Mike, drops by our table regularly to shoot the breeze with my dad and compliment my horror movie t-shirts. About a month ago, when the restaurant closed unexpectedly due to a COVID outbreak among staff, Mike sent us away with a huge assortment of complimentary cookies and brownies. Now that's a way to ensure repeat business! If you live within 100 miles of San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make the drive to High's Cafe in Comfort. If you follow my activity on Yelp, then you know my standards for food are exceptionally high (no "High's" pun this time), so trust me when I say that this place is worth the trip. Even my octogenarian father, whose appetite now rivals that of an anorexic schoolgirl, scarfs down every morsel he's served here. When my dad asks me (San Antonio's resident garbage disposal stomach), "Can I have some of your chicken salad if you're not gonna finish it?", that alone says more than I've written in this exhaustive (though hopefully not exhausting) seven-paragraph tome of a review. *Hint: my photos here are the ones that don't suck. No odd angles, no clutter in the foreground or background, no partially eaten food. When perusing Yelp for photos, always look for the "Little Lord Fauntleroy as Dracula" symbol of quality. I eat. I take photos. I write reviews. I edit dissertations. I talk to dead people. I AM RYAN 'SALVADOR DALI PARTON' M.!

As you walk into Brene's you get a warm inviting vibe to the place. The staff all welcomed us in and sat us down right away. Our waitress ran through the menu and so I order the 8-piece wing (4 buffalo / 4 lemon pepper) and my buddy orders the smash burger with onion rings. As we wait for our order, the manager comes by to talk with us and lets us know she has some fresh baked goodies for sale and long story short I end up leaving with a buttermilk pie. It was delicious. But I digress, when thing wings come out, the wings and drummies were both a good size with plenty of meat on the bone. They were fried nicely and not overly drowned in sauce. The buffalo sauce was nice and tangy, and the lemon pepper was on point. My buddy gave a thumbs up to the smash burger and onion rings. Overall, I'm glad we were able to stop in for some small-town hospitality right before Christmas. I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

The steak was a tad tough in some spots but otherwise good. I really loved the mashed potato's with the skin on still. Very flavorful! The Mac n cheese was good too. They also have a nice salad bar for an additional option. This is a good spot to pop in and give a try.
