    Guava sorbet

Great spot! We came for an event for our friends rehearsal dinner and had an excellent time. It is a beautiful space that is so cozy and intimate. The service was excellent throughout! We got potatoes and spring rolls to start and they were excellent! We then got a salad which was good as well. For the main course- we got the bolognese! The bolognese was absolutely OUTSTANDING! Such An amazing flavor that rivaled many Italian restaurants. Then we got the sorbet of the day, which was guava. I liked it but may not order again. Still was great! Would highly recommend this place! We will be back for sure :)

Big Kudos for the Deserts! they are beautiful, and they just make you feel happy. I tried the flan, my crew tried the carrot cake, Bread pudding and Nutella banana pudding. Next, the food; I tried the gumbo and the shrimp and grits. Both delicious and nicely prepared. The service was really good. There about 12 people in my party. The server took good care of us. There was a storm happening while we were there, so the staff allowed us to just leisurely enjoy our meal. No rush. The dining room was nicely furnished. This restaurant is in a pretty old building. It has that old school charm, but it's a little musty. Thats all I am saying. I will definitely return to try some other dishes.

If you have not been to Backstreet Cafe yet, you should make a reservation right now because it is absolutely worth it! We came for a Sunday brunch and we were seated upstairs. Our waiter was at our table shortly and we started off with mimosas. The complimentary mini muffins are so cute. We ordered the seafood beignets with the remoulade sauce which were delicious! For my entree, I split the Skirt Steak and Eggs and they were kind enough to serve it on separate plates for us! The steak was cooked and seasoned well! I loved the peppers, guacamole, and black beans! This food was amazing!!! Especially the spicy salsa, a real show stopper! I honestly wished I lived here just so I could come back! The food and service were 5 stars and the restaurant had such a warm atmosphere! Also, this cafe is so cute and chic and really cozy! It was the perfect spot for a girls brunch or a bridal shower in their private room!

Great Houston Restaurant Week menu. Nice to be able to mix and match. Our party of four started with the Duck Spring Rolls. Perfect to dip in the ginger scallion soy sauce. So delicious! For mains, the striped bass was perfectly crisp served with a summer vegetable orzo. My husband ordered a red corn chicken enchiladas which he devoured. Our friend enjoyed his steak. The Blockbuster dessert lived up to its name. A molten chocolate lava cake with salted caramel, peanut butter ice cream and kettle corn. So good. The most delicious way to end a great meal with friends. Service was great. Parking is by valet or limited street parking in the neighborhood. Hard to believe that it has taken so long to dine at this James Beard Award winning Hugo Ortega gem. Make a reservation as the place was packed on Saturday night. Would love to try the patio dining under the stars and live oaks in the fall or spring when it is not in triple digits in Houston.

A friend from out of town was visiting and I was recommended by multiple people to try Backstreet Café since it is a Houston staple brunch spot. We were not disappointed at all! I would come back for sure, perhaps to try dining outdoors when the weather isn't scorching hot. Made an online reservation for Saturday brunch, highly recommend doing that since they do get busy. Complimentary muffins were given to us to start while waiting for our food. Our server, Sergio, was great. He was quick & attentive, gave recommendations, and was overall pleasant. I highly praise him for his service. Duck spring rolls: they tasted delicious and the ginger scallion soy sauce complimented them well. a little oily after being deep fried, wouldn't hurt for them to lightly dab them once out the fryer. Corn pudding: first time trying this, was told it was like a soufflé and it really was. I'm more of a corn bread type of person so this wasn't my preference, but my friend really enjoyed it! Crab cake Benedict: I knew I wanted a benedict but I wanted to try their crab cake so I was fortunate that they had this off the menu special. It was absolutely filling and could definitely be shared among two people. The cheddar chive biscuits and crab cakes just blended so well together.. and to top it off with poached eggs? Ugh.. melt in your mouth. I would definitely recommend this but would probably not want to order additional food due to this entree being heavy already. Brisket migas: I can't personally comment on this since this was my friend's order, but she ate the whole plate up. So that speaks for itself. Lol. Parking - valet only in their private lot, however there is street parking nearby if you don't mind walking. I would definitely recommend trying Backstreet Café! It's no wonder it's been around a long time. I look forward to coming back and enjoying their patio dining.

Lovely spot for a nice dinner! Valet parking is really the only option (some street spots but not many available). Didn't do the HRW menu but it did seem like a nice option. The seafood beignets were yummy, very flavorful and the sauce was lovely. I had a snapper special that wasn't on the menu. Fish was flaky and soft, cooked nicely. Potatoes were smooth and the sauce was lovely paired with the fish. Indulgent but didn't feel too heavy. Service was really excellent! Definitely a nice spot for date night or a celebratory dinner. I'll have to come back to try brunch!

Nut allergy friendly; there are dishes with nuts but the servers are very considerate. We stopped in and sat at the bar for a quick drink and dessert. The restaurant seems very popular for brunch and dinner. Valet parking is available but we parked on the street nearby and walked a block without any issue. The desserts here are made in-house. The chocolate truffle cake was rich and creamy, perfect after a meal. I had a mezcal based drink that was excellent - Luis at the bar really knows his stuff. Ask for Thomas as a server, he's great and knows his wine!

I've been to Backstreet Cafe several times for brunch after Sunday service and it's always a delight! I love the comfy, quaint look of the restaurant with it being in a traditional home like building however the ambiance is still chic and elegant. The restaurant always gives a variety ( like 2-3) of complimentary mini muffins for the table which is a nice touch! On my most recent visit, I ordered an aperol spiritz for my drink which was perfect! My bf loves getting the Irish coffee here and dubs it the best one he's had in Houston! For my meal, I first ordered the roasted oysters which I loveeedd! The flavor was so savory with the fresh Parmesan and anchovy butter. The oysters also come with a side of bread which was warm and very soft. For my meal, I ordered the steak and eggs which isn't the traditional meal with just the meat, eggs and potatoes. This version has a Mexican twists with sautéed veggies on top of the steak, eggs (however you like, I chose scrambled) tortilla, refried beans, guacamole and salsa. Everything was absolutely delicious and so filling! If you haven't been to Backstreet Cafe, I would definitely recommend checking it out!

Ok I have a goal to go to every Hugo Ortega's restaurant , you'll se my review of caracol soon! This place is so cute inside it feels like a ver y old restaurant apparently it is. We ordered the enchiladas and the server told me the day's special: red snapper with risotto , we're doing "dry January" so my friend ordered mocktails it was so yummy, and since we're doing the dry I ordered a glass of Chardonnay with my fish. The food was delicious let me tell you something about going for the special menu at a restaurant if they offer me something that's not in the menu in gonna take it because usually they're trying a new recipe to add the menu and I love to feel special having something you would not have on the regular basis. With that being said the ambience and place was also very quiet nice and chic.

I loved this place! The courtyard is beautiful. All the employees were so friendly. The food presentation was beautiful and it all tasted delicious. 10/10 on everything! I will definitely be returning and that says a lot because I usually don't travel almost an hour 1 way for food but for this place, I will make an exception. My whole family enjoyed it. And we celebrated a great early Mother's Day. Thank you for the amazing food and excellent service.

Came to Backstreet Café for a friend's birthday brunch and had a pretty decent experience. The service did not take too long. The food was delicious--the spaghetti carbonara was rich and creamy, and the duck spring rolls were so incredible, definitely my favorite dish of the occasion. The ambiance was also nice. I would recommend dressing up a little bit, but you definitely don't need to go all out. My biggest issue with the café came after we finished our meal. Once we paid and left the establishment, it took forever to get my car from the valet. Having a valet-only parking situation is bad enough as it is (I really just want to park my own car when I go somewhere--but at least it's complimentary valet). But this valet service in particular was super hectic and disorganized, and it ended up taking 15-20 minutes just to get my car back. Definitely left a sour impression after the nice meal I had just finished. Overall though, I would recommend this place. I just suggest parking in the nearby residential area if possible--avoid the valet.

Need a nice, reputable place for a weekend brunch? Backstreet Café is where it's at. I definitely let this one sit way to long on my must try list. My friends and I came on a Saturday for brunch with reservations. As soon as I turned on to the street, an officer/security asked stopped me and asked if I was going to valet or street park. The lot is not self park and is used for their valet. I chose to valet and they work on tips. Slightly early, they had no issue seating us while we waited for the rest of our party. This seems to be a house converted into a restaurant. Lots of charm and character. We were seated upstairs in a sun filled room which I loved. Customer service was good. As soon as we were seated, we were served a plate of complimentary muffins. Nice touch. It went well with the Nutella Iced Coffee I ordered. I already anticipated everything on the menu was going to be absolutely delicious since this is a Hugo Ortega restaurant. His brunch at Hugo's is one of the best in town and Backstreet definitely belongs in the same tier. I was torn between a traditional breakfast or a lunch item. The Backstreet Benedict seems like the best of both worlds, but our waitress said she could kick it up a notch and substitute the ham for crab cakes. That was definitely the move because it was very delicious. The crab cakes were seasoned to perfection and sat on top of cheddar chive biscuits then drizzled with tasty Hollandaise. The sides of asparagus and grits was also above average. My only complaint was that I wished the dish was hotter. I don't know if it was intended to be just warm, but I would have preferred a hotter dish. We shared some of the Brioche French Toast which was awesome too. Overall, this place did not disappoint. The high rating and high number of reviews do not lie. It will for sure go into my rotation of brunch spots to return to.

The place was dimly lit and there was a lot of seating, both indoor and outdoor. A lot of the seating inside was arranged as couches with low tables, which made for a very casual and relaxing vibe, while the overall atmosphere remained very classy. - Padre's Hotdog (4.5/5): I was told by my friend that this was the best hotdog ever so I had very high expectations and I wasn't disappointed. The bread was very buttery and nicely toasted. The frank itself was very juicy and I loved how the pico and mustard help cut through the fat. The thing that made this hotdog stand out was the cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was delicious and I could probably have just eaten that alone. One thing though, the hotdogs were a bit on the smaller size, you probably would have to order something else or a second hotdog if you were hungry. Would come back again just for this hotdog! Parking/Service: There was a small lot on the side of the building, but other than that you might have to street park in the neighborhood right next to it. The ordering system was a bit of a surprise for me. You have to walk in to the bar and order there.

When my friend made the reservation, she received an email encouraging customers to visit the tasting room before or after dinner. We showed up an hour early to visit the tasting room, however the host had no idea what we were talking about. Turns out they weren't doing tastings. Luckily, we didn't have to wait to be seated. We initially had a table that was not near a heat lamp, however an employee came over and let us know that we could switch to a table near the heat lamp which was appreciated because it was chilly. Our server was Laura. She was nice and funny. They had $25 flight specials. I went with the Sayanara Flight which had white wines. I really enjoyed them and they weren't too sweet. My friend had an NA wine which she enjoyed. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Meatballs. Both dishes were tasty. I enjoyed the aioli that came with the fries. They had discounted wines for purchase. Not all bottles were 50% off, however the gentleman that we spoke to went ahead and gave me a 50% discount on both the rosé and pinot grigio that I purchased which was so appreciated! It seems like there are quite a few businesses around town that are closing. I'm sad to see Mutiny go, but I'm glad my friend and I got to dine in on their final night.

"Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay…read morehere." - Semisonic I have lived in the loop for 5 years now, and I'm sad to say that I finally tried Mutiny on their last day. I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I booked reservations Friday since I saw they opened up the 31st on Resy. It wasn't earlier in the week, but I knew it was the last day, and my friend and I really wanted to try. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. Reminds me of Fredericksburg or something. They had many large groups and a few small groups of friends or couples dining on this last day. Way to go out with a bang. A lot of the wines were selling out or already sold out around 7-8 pm. We tried the truffle fries and Sicilian meatballs with focaccia bread. I like the thick cut of the fries and the black garlic aioli. It reminded me of yuca fries. The Sicilian meatballs were a bit small, peppery and salty. I wish the marinara was a little more tart. The focaccia helped cut through the saltiness. I had 2 glasses of the NA Sauvignon blanc which was light and a little tart. They ran out of the NA red blend. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. So nice!! I'm glad we got to try them on their last day. Bon voyage, Mutiny.

Thank you for everything! The food and ambiance were also amazing! Truly a top notch restaurant experience.

Our friend booked a reservation and was able to add a fourth person without any issues. It's on Westheimer where all the restaurants and shops are, so it's pretty busy. You can either park on the street or in the neighborhood behind. There's bar, small table and booth seating available. One of our friends who arrived early got to switch us to a booth since we'd have a few plates to share for the four of us. My friend and I shared the NA red sangria. I liked that there was a NA option for that, and you can choose either red or white. We ordered a pitcher since we were sharing. It was delicious and refreshing. I think I had about 3 wine glasses of it. Our group shared the red fish à la plancha, patatas bravas, spinach frittata, olive oil pancakes and bacon-wrapped dates. Some of the dishes were bigger than others. Tapas is meant to be small plates, and they were, but it's a little overpriced. For example, the red fish was $15.50 for maybe 2 oz of fish. The stack of olive oil pancakes were small and thin for $8.50. If you're sharing, it's not that much food. I was going to order another personal stack of olive oil pancakes because that cinnamon butter was so good! I decided not to after I let all of what we ordered and drank settle for a bit after. The valdeon whipped blue cheese under the bacon-wrapped dates didn't taste very good and seemed grainy to me. It was my least favorite. The standouts for me were the olive oil pancakes, spinach frittata that was actually loaded with more veggies and bell peppers and the patatas bravas which was piled with potatoes topped with mayo that melted down and looked almost like melted cheese on top. It's a fun place for friends to gather or a cute date spot. You may or may not be hungry after depending what you order. There are larger plates/entrees like paella and branzino to share.

The vibes of WA were totally on. The outdoor area is shared space with the beer bar across the way, and they really created a nice space with multiple seating types and televisions. Inside the actual Annex there was standard bar seating as well as a few long tables. I really liked the decor - the bottles of liquor along the back of the bar created a nice focal point, and the low lighting combined with wood tones really set the tone. They have a vast selection of cocktails separated by flavors (smoky, sweet, tropical, etc.). We ultimately had three rounds and all of the drinks were quite good. The bartenders were great, they whipped the drinks up quickly and were friendly. Overall I had a great time at Worcester's Annex - definitely a place I would return to next time I'm in Houston.

Parking: Tons of parking here surprisingly, both a paved lot and a pebble lot. We had a reservation for 3 at 7PM and were promptly seated at a booth after a small line of people. Order-to-Appetizer: 15 Minutes Order-to-Entrees: 30 MInutes For three people, we ordered: Dairymaid's Cheese Board (4/5): Comes with four cheeses, five small pieces of sourdough, honey-spritzed grapes, green Granny Smith apples, and fava beans. I wish they gave us more bread with the cheeses and preserves. The four cheeses provided were slices of a five-year aged Cheddar, Oveja Anejo, Tomarashi, and Gruyere. I enjoyed the Tomarashi the most. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but very sharable and a great starter. Shady Acres Pizza with prosciutto (3.5/5): I really don't like getting thin crust pizza that isn't crispy, and unfortunately this was a soggy thin crust pizza. The toppings themselves were very flavorful, and the end parts were crispy enough. 5 Cheese Calzone with chicken (3.5/5): Whew, five cheeses makes for a salty calzone. The side marinara sauce provides a good balance. It's very filling. Chicken might have been a good addition because prosciutto might have made it too salty. It was larger than expected which was nice for sharability. Service was kind of iffy. They were pretty rude with not providing us utensils and seeming almost angry that we asked for some for the cheese board. They mixed up our order (we asked for chicken on the pizza and prosciutto on the calzone and they flipped it) and seemed almost apologetically serving us afterwards. Overall, would recommend as a relaxed date spot at a reasonable price. I paid via inKind and applied referral credit with no issues. Would come back with inKind credit, probably not at full price.

We were able to snag some free street parking and wandered our way into a cute setup with mood lighting and plenty of seating. There's a central bar and plenty of outdoor patio space. We were immediately helped as soon as we found a table which I really appreciated. The menu is HUGE and has anything you could possibly want. We're big red wine fans so we settled on that page. You can choose between 3 or 6oz pours, or a bottle. We also decided to share a cheese board with the Willoughby cheese which was soft and delicious! I appreciated how kind and accommodating the servers were as they frequently checked on us. This is a great spot to enjoy some wine with friends, on date night, or anything really! It has a relaxed atmosphere and is a pleasure to visit. Till next time!

The vibe inside is super cute with mood lighting and plenty of intimate seating spaced throughout. Parking in said shopping center is sparse. I'm not sure if parking is allowed at the neighboring businesses after hours, but I wanted to play it safe and ended up waiting about 15 minutes for someone to vacate their space. Our group had a couple of tables reserved and they had no problem having everyone pay on separate tabs. Service is offered both at the table and bar. Our waiter was attentive and had great recommendations for wine. When I was conflicted between two whites, he graciously brought me out both to taste and decide. I went with the Cacciabruco Malvasia/Trebbiano, which is a skin-contact white wine, so it had more of a reddish hue to it and almost looked like a rose in the dim lighting of the restaurant. I really liked this, as it was on the drier side and satisfied my palate more than the Gewürztraminer that I had also sampled. I didn't try the food but others in our party really liked the flatbreads they ordered. I do want to try these out next time because I know they will pair great with the wine! I'm glad I finally discovered this place! I'll definitely be back for happy hour and even a date night. With so many good places popping up in in Spring Branch, I'm sure this will become a regular spot for drinks before dinner

There are books abound, along the walls, in the bathroom, everywhere. I had a glass of Experience, a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a good pour, not too little or too much and the taste was deep, well balanced and smooth. Since the event took place around dinner time I also had a Fig and Speck flatbread. The fig, prosciutto and other toppings complimented each other well. The flatbread dough itself was ok but could've benefited from a little more flavor such as some garlic, butter and herbs. I also would've liked it a bit thinner so I could taste less of the bread and more of those delicious toppings. Don't get me wrong it was good and I ate all of it but these are small suggestions I'd recommend to bring it to perfection. I could see parking and seating being tricky. I was fortunate to snag a parking spot on the side of the building near the auto place and once inside I found a seat at a table with a lovely couple, another couple joined us soon after. Many of the guests who arrived later stood at first and then halfway through the event, made their way to the floor where they sat cross legged. All in all, The Library was a nice establishment and although a little out of my way, I'd return for another event or if I were in the area again.
