Very friendly and attentive staff treated me as I visited Backroads Cafe. Coffee was good and fresh. The place is decorated with local flair. I started off with the cinnamon roll which came out fresh and soft with plenty of cinnamon and drizzled in sugary glaze. Which the set me up for the savory eggs Benedict. The home fries were nice and crispy and well seasoned. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the spinach and ham went together well. Was recommend to try biscuits and gravy, maybe next time. read more

I had breakfast on 10/24/2025. My dad and I both ordered two eggs with meat , home fries and toast. My dad ordered scrambled eggs. His meal looked like barely one scrambled egg and hardly any home fries. The waitress was nice and polite. I also didn't care for the MAGA signs. I just want breakfast without politics. My review is only for the dairy bar. Whenever I'm in the area, I always stop by for their delicious ice cream, which is extra delicious on a hot day. If you are pondering if you should come here for ice cream, the answer is yes! ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** When I stopped by recently, I saw that they now have flavored soft serve. Boy, was I excited, especially because they had so many flavors! I got a blueberry soft serve and my dad got the butter pecan and we were impressed that they tasted just like the advertised flavor. And, the flavor was blended (swirled) into the soft serve naturally, so there was no weird artificial taste or spots missing the flavor. I can't wait to be back in the area so that I can stop by again and try some other flavors! Tips: -The dairy bar window is located on the outside of the left side of the building. -Their sizes tend to be on the larger side, so beware! -There are so many choices to choose from - soft serve, hard ice cream, sundaes, Arctic Swirls (aka flurries), slushes, puppy ice cream, and ice cream floats. So many choices, right?! -The place kind of blends into the scenery, so it's easy to miss it. So, make sure that you are on the lookout for the blue building with red awning. We always end up doing a quick, sudden turn because it's easy to simply pass by. -They have an outdoor seating area to eat your ice cream. -Parking seems to be limited, so hopefully it's not too busy when you are there. read more

My husband and I walked up to the ice cream counter on a Saturday night about an hour before closing. We were celebrating the last night of summer vacation and wanted some ice cream. There were literally NO customers at the ice cream counter or in the restaurant. The woman came over to the window and was not friendly at all. Seemed like she was doing us a favor. I asked if I could try a couple of flavors to see which I liked. She said "Try them? No." There was no explanation, nothing. Just rude. I said to my husband, "Let's go." She said nothing and walked back inside to work on her receipts. Rather than make a sale when literally nobody else was at the restaurant, she chose to be rude. I have no idea what the ice cream is like, so I can't comment. But I will never return. We are locals and this is very sad. I can see why they were empty on a Saturday night in the summer. read more

I loved their onion rings as an appetizer and my experience here just kept getting better. My party was the only one seated indoors while a few families sat outside to enjoy their meals/ice cream. You could order your desert with your meal or go to the window on the side of the restaurant to enjoy it outdoors. The staff do not wear face masks or gloves here so it is a personal choice whether customers want to dine at the restaurant. I would like to give a huge shout out to my server for getting 9 different orders correct on the first time. She is a gem in the industry. She came back to ask if we needed anything else and was really nice the entire time. The kitchen staff are also amazing. We enjoyed our meal. 5 stars for the onion rings, fries, pickles, cole slaw, and monte cristo sandwich. The chicken in the gyro could have been marinated or seasoned more but it is a great option since the meat was pretty lean. All portions were just the right size and great prices ($15 or less). Tried this place for breakfast today after passing it earlier in the week. We were greeted pleasantly and seated promptly. The place had an old time decor and looked to be the kind of place frequented by locals. I usually try the biscuits and gravy every where I go so that's what I ordered. The biscuits were very fresh and the gravy while a little pasty had nice chunks of sausage. My wife had a scrambled egg dish which she enjoyed. The coffee was fresh and hot and our waitress was attentive. Portions were just the right size for us and the price was much less then some of the other local places we've tried. Wanted to update our review to now include lunch/dinner. We stopped for a late lunch and had a wonderful gyro with lamb and cheesesteak. The servings were large, and everything tasted delicious. This place was amazing! We left Kalahari to have dinner in town, and we came up on this fun restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious and they had many desserts to choose from, but the best part was all the activities that they have for the kids. They were a few bouncy houses/inflatable's, rock walls, ropes, and a large gymnastics/tumble mat. The service was very pleasant. Great ice cream... I have only had an egg and cheese sandwich from there and it was delicious! They serve Hershey's Hard Ice cream and also have soft serve. We finally got a chance to have lunch here and have to say ,it was great. It's an 'ol' timers' country restaurant that held onto it's charm over the years. The menu is slightly larger than at least half the old style country diner/restaurants we like to frequent and they do there very best to hold down the prices to accommodate 'ol timers' & family's. Food was delicious for the 'picky' young & the 'old habits die hard' old. The 'decor' is somewhat dated but very clean and acceptably reminiscent. Hmmmmmm Cute place. 15 minutes to get the sandwich. Food was hot! Ordered cheesesteak and fries. Not bad. Think I saw another female on the back, might be Mgr? Not helping with customers tho.
