Beware the unlisted €90 price of this "flounder fish for two" special!
    Jessica M.

Food- delicious. Service- excellent. Atmosphere- great! So why 3 stars? Keep reading. This started out as wonderful first night in Italy. Unfortunately I cannot give a 5 star review like I'd like to, as I feel we were taken advantage of as "tourists". The server (who was lovely) came over and showed us a large tray of fresh fish and described their specials that night. We had wanted pasta and pizza (Italy- ya!) but after his detailed description of the "Flounder fish for 2" he encouraged us to try this. So we did. The fish was alright, but the shock came when we received the bill. Most entree items on the menu were priced €20-€30, so imagine our shock when this "flounder fish for 2" was priced at NINETY EUROS. We did get two free limoncello shots which helped (a little). So beware the unlisted fish specials. If you can avoid being taken advantage of, this is an excellent choice for dinner! I feel I must add the flounder photo!

Very very good! Perfect portion of food and great staff. We got the cacio e Pepe as well as a SeaBass pasta with pumpkin and pistachio. Very good!

Tourist trap! This place had awful food, upsell scam and overpriced. Went in here for a light dinner near our hotel and at first seemed nice. Mostly tourists in the place should have warned me. I ordered European sea bass (Branzino) for 15 Euros and minestrone soup for 9 Euros. The waitress then said I could have braised artichoke instead of veggie side and bread will be brought out.. She didn't mention that the artichoke was 8 Euros and the bread was 5 Euros. Food was awful - got 4 tiny tail sections of fish that was over salty and soup from a can! At the end, they added on a service fee of 4.50 Euros. Total bill came out to 45 Euros which was a rip! Don't come here unless you want to be taken advantage of by servers who know you are tourists and will never return!

The carbonara - the pancetta was so crunchy and the sauce so yummy!!!

This place has the absolute best carbonara that I have ever had!!!! On a recent trip to Rome I asked my concierge for a recommendation in termini for a place to have carbonara and he insisted on Babbos. I was admittedly a bit skeptical because of my high expectations but I must be honest and tell you that this was the most amazing €8.50 plate of carbonara that I have ever had!!!

Holy shit. A full meal out of an appetizer to boot. Worth coming back just for the food!

    Mushroom and sausage pizza...SOOO good...

I couldn't disagree with the naysayers more. We spent our last night in Rome tired and hungry. This place was just what we needed. Great ambiance in the outdoor patio. A VERY attentive owner/manager which may make some feel rushed, but we were allowed to take our time. Food was excellent, mushroom pizza was perfectly cooked and pasta with clams was very very good. Price was awesome, around 50 euros for two glasses of wine, one beer, appetizer and two entrees. Actually a great deal for Rome! Owner even gave us a treat (gratis) at the end of a cordial and cookies. We would/will definitely go back next time in Rome! You should too.

The steak was like shoe leather! It was full of gristle. Worst steak I've ever had and they didn't want to comp it. I will not go back!

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

By the time we were seated, dozens of people were waiting behind us. We sipped an Aperol spritz and lemonade while we waited, chatting with fellow diners who raved about the restaurant. On a sweltering day, our kids were starting to struggle in the heat when the owner came outside and gave them mini pizzas breads. It was a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel welcome. Once seated, we ordered burrata, cacio e pepe, amatriciana pasta, pork chops, and fried artichokes. Everything was excellent, but the amatriciana was the standout--rich, savory, and unforgettable. The cacio e pepe was silky, the burrata fresh and creamy, the pork chops juicy, and the fried artichokes perfectly crisp. There's a reason people line up for Da Enzo. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lively, and the hospitality remarkable. Without question, this was our best meal in Rome and one of our most memorable restaurant experiences.

The tomatoes were fresh and juicy but the burrata was a bit thick (referring to the outer aspect). Also the bread was a bit tough. The amatriciana was good, but not worth a 2 hour wait in a line, 7.5/10. Pasta was perfectly al dente, but the sauce wasn't anything to die for. I think you can get a very similar possibly better pasta in Rome without the wait. My girlfriend got the gnocchi pasta, which she said was a 7/10. The gnocchi was great, but again the sauce wasn't anything special Tiramisu, 10/10. This was amazing. It was sweet without being overpowering. The ladyfingers weren't soggy, and had that strong espresso taste. I would come back here just for this dessert. Also if you don't like cramped spaces, probably not the best spot. I could hear the people next to me better than I could hear the person across me haha.

Many of their pizzas are quite elaborate With all sorts of exotic ingredients. I went super simple. Gorgonzola. Mozzarella. That's it. Just enough Mozzarella to cut the Gorgonzola and make for a good melt. * * * If you have never had a gorgonzola pizza, you have never lived. Just sayin'. * * * P.S. My lovely wife got a Norwegian salmon pizza. The Norwegian salmon was stacked up high on her pizza As if she was in the World Series of Poker and she was a big winner. I have never seen so much salmon on one plate. After our meal, I made a discreet phone call to the Norwegian embassy in Rome asking them if they still had any salmon left. The woman at the embassy assured me the Norwegian salmon supply was fine. That surprises me given all the salmon that was on my wife's pizza.

Being new to Rome, and having walked 20k steps on our first day, there are an abundance of options a for dining. We wanted something classically Rome nearby to our hotel. The Yelp review of this restaurant was sufficiently positive to entice us. Being American, we appreciate the earlier-than-customary dining options. We arrived at 6pm without a reservation. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is intimate and very well staffed. The wood fire oven is front-and-center and the fresh mozzarella is prominent in display. We ordered a bottle of wine ... all options are very fairly priced. This is nice. We started with a Greek salad to share. It was unlike any American Greek salad ... and a really delight. It is early June but the tomatoes and peppers were ripe and crisp and really fresh. My wife ordered the Marguerite pizza; I opted for the Gorgonzola pizza (the effusive review on Yelp was compelling). Both were solid. We appreciate the thin crust and the crisp edged. The center of both, however, was doughy and somewhat undercooked. Looking around ... the restaurant was over 50% full even at this early hour. Most were Americans. We saw a good number of diners with pasta dishes ... and none were left unfinished. Sadly, we don't have any comparisons to weigh (yet). So, I cannot affirm any "best of" citations, it this is certainly a solid trattoria/pizzeria. The staff are attentive and the food served hot and fresh.
