I came here for inlander restaurant week awhile ago. I really liked the ambience and interior design of this restaurant, but felt like the food was just mediocre. For the first course, we ordered hummus & tahini and the african peanut stew. I think the hummus & tahini was the best dish I had all night. The pita was soft and the hummus was creamy but not too oily. The african peanut stew was a bit too mushy for my liking and was a little bland. For our second course, we ordered oyster mushroom souvlaki and shakshuka. The oyster mushrooms were tender and the yogurt sauce was flavorful and tangy. The shakshuka was my least favorite dish of the night. This was my first time eating shakshuka, and the sauce was bland and I felt like it was nothing special. For our third course, we ordered honey walnut baklava and labneh fritters. In my opinion, the baklava was way too sweet. I liked the labneh fritters better than the baklava-- it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Baba was the first Mediterranean restaurant I tried in Spokane, and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't stellar for the prices. Was driving through Spokane and wanted something "light". I decided to check Baba out as it didn't look as busy as the brunch restaurant next door. It was a great choice. Both dishes we ordered were light & refreshing especially the summer watermelon, cherry tomatoes & feta salad. I've never had the watermelon & charred tomatoes combo before. It surprisingly paired well together. The Baba bowl made me feel great eating vegetables as I'm more of a carnivore, lol. Added the slow cooked lamb to it for protein and I have to say it was my least favorite item due to lack of flavor. I would like to return when I'm in the area again and with a bigger appetite. This place has great energy and they have the menu and service to back it up. My wife and I were treated to an assortment of flavor and colors when we chose the Mezze Plate (highly recommend it if you want to sample their fare - on a side note, I really enjoyed the baba ghanoush and the whipped feta with honey) and added the Kofta Kebobs as a shareable plate. We can't wait to go back and try the Taste of Baba (Chefs menu) and taste their creations. Like snuggling under your favorite comforter w your favorite person comfortable. Seriously. Did not like the smoked skewered chicken though it was going to be really tough to follow either of the above. The rubbery looking chicken was served cold, atop cold barley? w various mix ins ranging from mint to raisins in a mayo? Based dressing? w half the plate covered by mayo (aioli?) and a sweet sauce. Where do I even begin?! Food-wise, this might be my new favorite restaurant in Spokane. I got a peek inside the restaurant while picking up my order and it has a nice ambience. All the dishes I got were packed neatly into boxes and traveled well. They took about 30 min to prepare my order. I ordered the baba ghanoush, pan seared falafel, ribeye steak skewers, and lamb shank tagine. Everything tasted INCREDIBLE. The baba ghanoush had this really nice lemon-y tang to it and came with the most fluffy pita I have ever seen. My only complaint is that I wish it came in bigger portions! The falafel were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The ribeye skewers were equally delicious. They came with potatoes that were also perfectly crispy yet so soft on the inside. Had to bring the husband to try out Baba. Just happened to get there for happy hour. I just love how this restaurant reminds me of a lazy day in Europe, eating on the patio, without pressure from waiters. I had the roasted strawberry tabouli and the baba burger, the husband had the clam and lamb with a glass of rosé. After stealing my fries, he said "Moules-frites!" Close enough! Still, as we are all dynamic and ever-evolving human beings, I'll venture every so often to revisit my long-standing preferences and, in this case, have them re-confirmed. It's fine. Portions are small and you'll want to eat again in 2 - 3 hours. Burger was great but WET and the fries were honestly the best part. Outstanding french fries go figure. Whipped feta w pita was yummy. Deviled eggs had me scratching my head; did not work well IMHO. Go during happy hour and enjoy food when it's relatively cheap. All I can say is WOW! My husband and I went to Baba wanting to try something new for dinner and we were blown away. This upscale spot was perfect for date night or with family or friends. We ordered the eggplant fries, the Sirloin Skewer, and the Baba Burger. All were delicious and perfectly cooked, the sauces and tastes were perfectly balanced and the food was hot and arrived pretty quickly. Prices mid level and reasonable, the burger and fries being $15. They were really busy so it took a little bit to be seated but totally worth the wait and friendly service. First off, this place has a really great atmosphere. The decor, lights, seating were all really awesome. Our service was great too. Everyone was super friendly and helpful as we checked out the menu. The food was excellent. We really enjoyed everything we got. They even had a Chai Old Fashioned that was probably one of the best drinks I've ever had. It was a bit speedy, a lot more than we had planned for our date night, but that's what we get with the Chai Old Fashioned I suppose. Overall, we'll probably come back. Looking for a dinner spot after our stroll through the Riverfront Park, we decided on Baba as we haven't had Mediterranean food in a while and this was close by. There was no wait on a Thursday night around 8pm. We ordered a lamb dish and the Turkish Mac and Cheese. The lamb dish was delicious - very flavorful but a little bit on the saltier side. So I am going to start off by saying that I placed an order through grubhub and the food that I received, that I ordered was delish. The only problem is that the order came wrong. I ordered the cauliflower schnitzel sandwich, the crispy falafel and the fatoush salad. I ordered all sauces on the side because I planned to eat it later on an airplane. The sandwich was great as well as the smashed potatoes on the side! The two sauces that should have been on it came on the side like I requested. I did eat half the sandwich right away and it was great! The falafel was also so good! But It came with no sauces. So that was a bit of a disappointment. I asked for them to also be on the side so the falafel would not become soggy and instead they just came with none. Lastly I ordered a fatoush salad that I was looking the most forward to but they sent the freekah salad. It was the salad with grains, pistachios and some other things that was not good in my opinion. Looked like a bunch of mush, needed salt and was not what I was looking for! I would love to try the fatoush salad the next time I am here if they can send it correctly! Overall what I received was great!
