The atmosphere is pretty cool and hip, especially with the bar. My friends and I came on a Thursday night around 7pm, in which the restaurant was pretty full. The service we got was pretty average or less than that. Our waiter rarely came by and it took a long time before we could order. The food was essentially overpriced for the average quality. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (Anthony Bourdain's favorite soup), which was pretty good with the meat inside that I could find, besides the pork knuckle which I didn't really understand. There was not enough noodles in it and the broth was good with a layer of spiciness that it had. I wouldn't say that I crave it or really understand the dish though. The restaurant is a bit expensive for pho. I usually get my pho like at $8-9. I mean granted it is a bar, but $14 for a bowl of pho seems a bit much. My moscow mule was pretty good, but it was like $10 as well. Probably would skip this place and go to a more authentic Vietnamese/pho place, and then a bar afterwards instead of combining them to be expensive. read more

I flagged the waiter, he came and said it's still in the pot (DO YOU REALLY NEED HALF AN HOUR TO COOK THE NOODLE?). Arrived here on a Saturday around noon with my friend, craving some hot noodles in this chilly weather! The staff seated us immediately because it wasn't too busy. After viewing the menu we pretty much knew that we wanted something comforting so I opted for their traditional noodle dish while my friend decided to get the congee. Both dishes arrived fairly soon after our order was placed. The dishes were good but not amazing. My dish was a little bland, the noodles themselves were OK but the broth was a bit unflavorful. I ended up adding a ton of Sriracha just to spice things up but it was still a bit lackluster. My friend did not enjoy that the donut served with the congee was placed in the congee itself so it made the donut really soggy. We also had some drinks which were a bit watered down unfortunately. I had the Hu Dumpling and Bun Bo Hue (rice noodle soup), the dumpling was good but the noodle soup was very different from what I was expecting, mostly because the noodle itself is not the typical pho noodle. I stopped by during lunch on a weekday & ordered their lobster garlic noodles. Noodles tasted great but I was left wondering where the lobster was. There were only a few pieces and at that point I wish they offered a different protein instead, if lobster was too expensive for them to put more in the dish. Get a consultant who knows Vietnamese food if you are going to hire whoever to cook it. Any Vietnamese grandma will do. Hell, I'll come there for free and give the basics. Like, number one: SERVE IT hOT!! That is basic Pho 101!! Number two, if you are going to prep the noodles way ahead of time, use a touch of oil so that they don't clump together. Number three, the Chinese donut does not need to soak in grease before serving. Gross. Here is the thing, Ba Bar presents as elevated Vietnamese food, please act like it. I like other Ba Bar locations but my fiancé and I had a terrible interaction with the SLU location and for that I give them 0 stars. We reached out to book a private dining space for our rehearsal dinner and were explicit that we needed to start 7:00/7:30pm (on a Thursday) because we have to attend rehearsal immediately prior and the timing for that is immovable per our venue. After a few weeks of trying to plan and book with them they told us they refused to start any later than 6:00pm which was impossible for us to accommodate. It has that same ba bar dark wood ambiance with bright kitchen open! You can spot the beautiful copper cups well before you spot their sign. The bar is right in the center and you can see 180! Love the ambiance and set up here. High tables and chairs. Love the same moscow mules specials. Soft opening going to full open schedule. This one has shorter hours unlike the hill one but it's equally if not more charming! Definitely love the space! Food: I've been a fan of their food for a long time!! And for a good reason! Who doesn't love Vietnamese street food with amazing quality stuffs! This location, they have all the staple favorite plus some specials. I love imperial rolls from here and love their combo bun! Out of all the places I ate at during our Seattle stay, this place was the most underwhelming. My entire stay had surpassed my food scene expectations, so the bar was pretty high. I ended up here because the location was right next to the hotel and wanted to try some Vietnamese food Seattle-style. While the service and drinks were good (the Walk on the Wild Side and Moscow Mule) the food was just ok. There was nothing great about it but it also wasn't bad. The flavor could have definitely been turned up on the dishes. I ended up ordering the Lemongrass Beef Vermicelli meal. The meat was kind of tough and not seasoned well. Welcome to South Lake Union, where popular Capitol Hill eateries open their second locations, serving the same food for $2 more per entree. That's the premium hungry software developers in the shiny 98109 zip code pay. Came Monday ~8:30pm and it wasn't busy. After repeating our orders correctly, the server even gave warning about the rotisserie duck looking a bit "rare" but always perfectly cooked at 165 degrees. However, the cooks incorrectly gave us the chicken rotisserie, so I ate my bowl of $12 pho while my fiancé waited for his food to be remade. Pho is average, but perhaps cleaner than bowls had at half the cost. Service was generally attentive but still managed to try and charge us for the incorrect order along with the stuff we actually ordered. So we finally made it to Seattle and the first thing we wanted to eat was Pho . We found Ba Bar on Terry Ave that's near our hotel and although their main dining area was closed for an event eating in the bar area was very comfortable and enjoyable. After a long day of whale we wanted to end our day on a fabulous note. My wife and I each ordered a drink. I wasn't too hungry because we ate a big lunch in Langley so I chose a small plate of Spinach Tofu Paper wrap. It was very fine paper lightly browned with a chopped mixture of tofu, spinach, carrots and peanuts (?). It came with a ponzu/soy sauce for dipping. It was very delicious and light and just perfect for a small appetite. My wife had the Chicken Bun which was the perfect amount of vermicelli noodles, lettuce, perfectly seasoned chicken and pork. We highly recommend eating here if you're in the Lake Union area of Seattle. We'll probably go back if time permits during our stay here! Next day, Monday: came back for more. This time we both ordered Pho. I had the Pho Vegan, a deep rich dark broth filled with tofu, noodles, cabbage, bean sprouts, and a blend of gourmet mushrooms. No buttons here! My wife had the Chicken Pho, based in another deep flavored broth filled with noodles, egg, and tender chicken. We couldn't stop eating it. Ok.. bottom line, BEST PHO EVER!!!!! EVER!!! I was a big fan of this restaurant but this last time I was definitely put off by their automatic tip being applied. We came in as a party of 8 and when the bill came out the check showed they applied 20%. Four of our 8 were our kids and it was early enough not to hit the dinner rush. However, they applied the tip inclusive of tax even though the tax was only assessed on the subtotal. So basically they ended up charging me an actual automatic tip of 22%. Grrr. I first tried the Ba Bar in U-Village for a Yelp Elite event and I recently started working in the SLU area so I was super excited to try this place out for Happy Hour as a regular customer! My friends and I came on a pretty nice day so the restaurant was partially open to let some of the breeze and vitamin D in. We sat at one of the high tables where they had hooks underneath for your jacket and bag! We decided to share the crispy rolls, chicken wings, beef pho, and chicken skewers. The first thing we noticed, but didn't want to comment on, was the food portions... They were all very tiny! The food tasted excellent though, my favorite would have to be the crispy rolls. Even after splitting everything between three people, it didn't seem filling but we didn't really want to spend anymore. I also tried the Leah Maria, which had prosecco and vodka and thought that was pretty good. My friend really wanted to try mango coconut rum slushie... It was pretty strong and the funniest thing was that was the most expensive thing we ordered! Service was good, my friends and I were being awkward at first because we didn't really know what to order and our server kept coming back to check on us but he was nice. Delicious! I was on the hunt for a vermicelli bowl for my boyfriend and I to pick up to go for dinner. The problem I was running into was that I've noticed that a good portion of Vietnamese restaurants do not even have a "Good" rating. Most of them have "Okay" or even worse, "Needs improvement". No way, José!!! I used Yelp to find some Vietnamese restaurants that had vermicelli bowls that had a rating of Good or better. Quite the task. I found Ba Bar. This location has a Good. (Other Ba Bars did not). I placed my order over the phone and then picked it up after work. It was delicious and reasonably priced. It was about the same price as the vermecelli bowl at the Vietnamese restaurant up the street from my job. (Which currently is at "Needs Improvement"). We came here on a Saturday night. Staff interrupted me while I was still ordering. He took the extra plates away. And, the other staff brought them back and he took away again. For main course I ordered the vegetarian noodles. I had some issues with the flavor here. I am not sure if it was the usual Vietnamese taste. But I felt there could have been more flavor or spice! I'm a BBH addict so when I saw they had BBH here, it was the obvious choice. They serve the dish with your typical toppings, sliced beef, meatballs, pork blood cubes. Sadly no pork feet. The lime slice provided was the size of a nickel which I thought was funny as most Vietnamese restaurants give you fat wedges and I love that lime! The waiter recommended I add mushrooms into my BBH which I thought was super strange and was not about at all since I love my traditional BBH flavors. The craved a broth with more fish sauce and fermented shrimp paste. The combo rice plate came with your typical pork pie slice, grilled pork and the option of the addition of a fried egg. I'm sad to say while the interior inside is newer, more spacious and modern than cap hill, I'm not happy with food quality and more so with slow customer service. While we were seated almost right away, we were not asked for drinks and had no encounter with the employee for good 20 minutes. We happened to visit during their late night happy hour and menu for food/drinks are very limited. We ordered wings and it was very plain. There was no attention to plating as in they served us what seems to be like they carelessly threw 6 small wings on a small white plate; No sides, no sauce, no eye-grabbing presentation. I was so happy to hear that Babar opened another location this year in SLU! I can't seem to stay away from this place because I've been there 2 times in one week! I absolutely love their pho, especially the broth. The oxtail pho comes with Painted Hills beef and is absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that the bun bu hue contains a lot of authentic ingredients such as pork blood and knee knuckle. Although the ingredients sound a little intimidating, they made the bun bo hue taste much better and authentic! I haven't tried the other dishes but my friends absolutely love the vermicelli bowls.The place gets busy all the time but I never had to wait too long for seating. You can only park on the street, so sometimes it may be difficult to find parking in the busy SLU area. The food here is a bit pricier than most traditional Vietnamese restaurants, but I find the quality to be quite decent. This is my favorite restaurant in the SLU area just south of Mercer, where I work. The food is pretty good; my go-tos are the Crab Garlic Noodles and Vegan Pho. The garlic noodles taste amazing but are pretty heavy, and the pho is decent enough and satisfies any cravings. Seeing as I don't expect any super authentic Vietnamese food in the surrounding area, Ba Bar is good for what it is.
