We are visiting from out of town and saw the good reviews. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean, but if you are looking for something newer or with a "cool vibe" this is not the place. The food was good but all 6 of us in our party felt like our portions were too small. If you have growing teen boys be prepared to spend $100 for a family of 6 and you won't be taking any leftovers home. My 16 year old was especially disappointed in the size of the taco salad and my 13 year old has the same response to his chimichanga. read more

Visited Azteca. Everything was very good. My wife and I had a good time and a good meal. I had enchiladas and a chili relleno with rice & beans. My wife had chicken taquitos with rice and beans. We also had cheese dip as an appetizer. Everything was solid and very good. Nice and hot! The service was excellent and they took very good care of us. First off... I live like half a mile from this place. Passed it a thousand times. Bad move. Finally stopped by a couple months ago and love has set in. Location-wise, off putting to most I would bet but get past it, you won't regret it. I have a full on chile colorado addiction thanks to these guys. Tender meat, tasty... I MEAN TASTY red sauce, and whatever they put next to it. Could have been beans and rice but they were an afterthought. As others mentioned they bring you a free meal before your meal (yummy cabbage thing, beans, and salsa) so bring your appetite with you, seriously. I also tried the huevos rancheros which BTW is again amazeballs and super sized for an early morning/afternoon dish. Strange mix of families, cowboys?, wanderers, and foodies but hey I like that. Indeed it is mexican food and cheap, but done totally right by my count. We are not talking super traditional true to the core mexican like seniorita De'latorre would bust out during El Grito but way better than anything I have found anywhere near this area. If you're hungry don't order a $7.95 combo plate. The size of the enchilada is miniature. Look at the picture. See, it's itty bitty. The shell for the tostada was a soft, soggy corn shell topped with mediocre tasting chicken, shredded lettuce, cheese, & tomato. It was so bad I passed it on for Seth to eat since he was still hungry from his combo. Speaking of. Seth's chicken burrito was also miniature. It was the exact same size $1 bean burrito from Taco Bell. At least at T Bell the bean burrito comes with cheese & red sauce. This chicken burrito was just chicken; no cheese, no sauce, no rice, no beans, etc. That's not a burrito. The hard shell ground beef taco was dripping heavily with grease. Not good. Rice with the combos was unavailable so they decided to replace it with salad. Shredded lettuce, cheese, & a slice of tomato is not a salad, but thanks for trying. The pros: Free chips with salsa, beans, & coleslaw Free dessert Cons: Combination plates No guacamole with combo plates No sour cream with combo plates We're staying at the nearby Marriott & our choices for food were Azteca, Cracker Barrel, & McDonald's. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Azteca. It came highly recommened to us by some of my husband's co-workers and after reading reviews here, we gave it a try. We were greeted promptly and with a smile by the hostess. Our server greeted us, took our drink order, and asked if we'd even like to change tables, as he realized the sun was setting and coming right through the window into my husband's eyes. To quote him, he wanted to be sure we were comfortable. The free salsa, beans, and cabbage dips w/chips were all very good and flavorful. Our entrees were some of the very best mexican food we've ever eaten and absolutely the best here in Omaha. My husband had the Carne Azada Steak Burrito and I had the Chicken Flautas. The location itself is definitely off the path, even though it's right off the interstate. It was quaint, clean, and well maintained. All staff was very attentive and appreciative of our business. The prices were very comparable and in some cases from what I noticed on the menu, cheaper than the place we had been eating at since moving here 6 months ago. No more. We loved Azteca! For those with children that do not eat mexican food, like our little picky eaters, they do server grilled cheese, hamburgers, etc. read more

I should have realized it was a mistake to eat at Azteca when I walked in to what looked like a truck stop with a sombrero on the wall. I've had better food at Taco Bell... Seriously. Our experience started with my hilariously poor attempt at a top shelf margarita. They served it with olives in the glass... Olives? Whatever, it's alcohol so I drank it. I ordered their signature Arroz con Pollo which I can only describe as red slop with tortillas and mushrooms. My wife sent back her first dish when the torta was soggy from the fluid gushing from the bland beef and lettuce. The waitress tried in vain to convince us that it is normal for food to be served in soup-like form. My wife asked for a different dish. What she got in return was healthy dose of disappointment topped with shredded cheese and watery beans. Thank God we made it out of their without food poisoning. I urge everyone to avoid this place like the plague. Just drive 5 minutes down 144th street to Cilantro's! read more

Easily the best place to eat at this exit off I-80. You come inside to a warm and friendly greeting. The place is huge, so you're seated immediately and given some incredible appetizers-- an amazing, warm bean dip, some fresh, citrusy homemade salsa, a cabbage slaw that's crisp and filled with cilantro and jalapenos, and some of the best homemade chips I've had in a Mexican restaurant. It was a little downhill from there. We asked our waiter if there was anything on the menu which couldn't be missed. He just shook his head. To be fair, he then left and a much more friendly and forthcoming waitress took over our table, but still-- that was a little off-putting. Drawn as I always am to the unusual and the vegetarian on the menu, I got the Garden Fresh burrito, though a little wary of the burrito sauce. I was right to be wary. It was the texture of corn syrup, bland with just a hint of chili powder. I ended up slicing open the burrito and eating out the tasty filling (hoya beans, rice, cabbage, and carrots-- no zucchini as promised!) with the rest of our amazing chips. I think I might have done better to get the more traditional Vegetarian Burrito. My mom ordered the steak fajitas, and mentioned that the steak was well-seasoned, but chewy. We were then pleasantly surprised by our waitress presenting us with free dessert: fried tortilla with whipped topping and strawberry sauce on top (basically strawberry shortcake on fried dough)... Really simple, but good-tasting. An unbelievably reasonably priced meal... We would definitely stop here if we were road tripping across I-80 again! read more

So I tried this place late last week and I have to agree with many of the other reviews. I think it's great! On the evening I went, it was pretty busy in there but I was quickly greeted and seated. they had my drink order, chips, salsa and bean dip out to me within a couple minutes. I ordered a shrimp burrito with a green chili sauce on top and it was delicious! The dish game with the rice and the beans and were also pretty tasty. The burrito was huge, and I was more than full by the time I finished. They did bring out the signature tortilla chip with the whip cream and raspberry sauce, and somehow I forced myself to eat that too :-) The building inside and out certainly could use some cosmetic improvements. Especially the beat up torn carpeted floor inside, but overall it's a pretty decent place complete with friendly, and hard-working staff. I will be back! read more

This was our first time. My wife said based on the looks she would not have gone in except for the rave reviews from her coworkers that are from various Latin countries. Very friendly. Quick with the chips. They came with 3 small dips... the bean dip was superb. The cabbage salsa was new for us and we really liked it. The red salsa was thin and spicy...interesting but not our favorite. (A little too much chili) I went with carne asada and my wife chose chicken Chimichanga. The chimi was fried crispy and the chicken was moist...so far the best in Omaha. The steak was thin and very charred but good flavor. The rice was average but the pinto refried beans were good. The flour tortillas were amazing. The sopapillas were not what we're used to.. More like a fried tortilla chip with sugar and cinnamon and Todd with whipped cream and drizzled with strawberry sauce. My wife really liked it as it was light and a nice sweet finish to the meal. I thought they were good and appreciated them being included. Prices were very reasonable. Service was good though we didn't get drink refills offered. Overall we liked it and would bring friends. They can accommodate larger families as well as having some quiet booths. read more

What a nice surprise. We have lived relatively close and have driven past this restaurant for years and never knew it was there. My wife, two girls and I decided to give Azteca a try. Once seated we were greeted almost immediately. The brought out tortilla chips, a thin and spicy salsa, bean dip and a slaw all complimentary. I had the 3 chicken enchilada combo meal, my wife had a enchilada taco mini combination and my two girls had kids meals. All for about 3 $32.00 including the tip. The food came out lightning fast...surprising fast which we were grateful for.My enchiladas came with rice and beans and all was very good. The chicken in the enchiladas appeared to be all white meat and I used their thin salsa to add a little spicy heat. If anything their salas was too spicy for my wife and two girls but I loved it. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. Very helpful. This restaurant was a nice surprise. As for Mexican meals go it will now be our go to spot as they provide good meals and reasonable prices and fast. A for sure go to spot. read more

I was working at one of the car dealerships in the area when Azteca opened years ago, and I'm glad to see they're still as good as they were way back then. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but give me time. The variety is notable, and everything I've had makes me want to have it again next time! You won't leave the table hungry here. Read this like 1.75 stars Ummm - I waited to write this review because I didn't know how to phrase this.... Came here on business, and this was highly Yelp rated - so away we went. Everything about this place screams good Mexican food - it looks like a hole in the wall, in a weird shaped parking lot that it shares with a hotel, a McDonalds and a gas station, with inexpensive looking decor and furnishings (ALL things that I love!!). So the crowd is kinda excited. Chips, bean dip and some slaw?? are presented to the table. Yes, dear reader, you read correctly, SLAW! The table was afraid to touch/taste it, but I played like Mikey (from the Life commericals) and tried it... yep, slaw... not bad - but slaw?? Drinks come next - and no problems there.... we order entrees (2 beef fajitas, 1 veggie fajita?? and 1 combo chicken/beef fajitas) and wait. Oh yeah, I digress. The person ordering the veggie fajita asked for the composition, since the table assumed meatless fajitas was just peppers and onions. Nope - its a veggie medley that includes peppers and onions. Our curiosity awakened, we wait. Our entrees come out, and this is the truth, if you placed the 5 dishes next to another, you could tell the veggie because of the broccoli and carrots but that was it. All five dishes came out with a chunky tomato... sauce?? covering them. Let's recap. 2 beef FAJITA plates, 1 chicken FAJITA plate and 1 Combo chicken/beef FAJITA plate. No sizzle. No char. No smoke. Just 5 plates that resembled cacciatore, or sloppy joes, or SOMETHING NOT FAJITAs. (just for reference, I google image searched fajitas while writing this... yep we DID NOT get that). The veggie fajitas was a medley from a bag.... the kind with the grooved carrots LOL. We picked at the dishes, had dessert brought out - sopapillas (more like torillas with sugar, whipped cream and red sauce), paid our bill and rolled out. Deeeeeelish!!! We came to Omaha for a brew tour and needed Mexican food, right? Brews+spices=happiness! When we got there we were served chips n salsa along with some kind of cold lettucey dip. We were hesitant to try it, but YUM! It was refreshing! Chips were crunchy...definitely something I need in a chip. Salsa was fresh and had great taste. There were 4 of us in our party and we all ordered something different. All 4 of us left fat, dumb and happy! Food and service both top notch!! Will go back when in Omaha again!
