I have to start off by saying the waitress was very accommodating for our large group. What was bad and that's nothing that she could control was the food. The food was awful. I had a hard friendly chicken enchilada, and they took chicken tortilla, wrapped it up. Put some cheese on it and nuke it to the point where the cheese was just crust embedded in the plate. There was no flavor no lettuce, no tomato no sauce nothing it was just awful. Another person in our group had a face heater salad which looked pretty good but she said it was horrible. She didn't even eat it. It was just sad and it's expensive for one plain chicken enchilada. It was 12 bucks and that's ridiculous. I mean there's no rice no beans no nothing. Let me preface this by saying I've never much liked Fernando's. But my husband had always liked them when they'd catered into his work (years ago) - so I acquiesced when he requested to go there for old time's sake. The ambiance is rather dated, with a very 70s feel to the place. That may be what they're going for, but it didn't put me at ease that the meal would be spectacular. We were seated next to the bar which was straight out of Goodfellas. We could hear every conversation the bartender was having with his regular guests, so it was definitely good eavesdropping material. Our server was fine, there were no complaints there. We started with the Queso Blanco dip, and while it tasted alright, it was pretty similar to the queso blanco Velveeta cheese we bought a few weeks before at the grocery store. It had no "cheese pull" when you dipped your chip in and out, so I suspect it WAS the same Velveeta. I had the Mexican Pot Roast street tacos, on the recommendation of our server. I was not a fan of these in the slightest. The meat was in huge gigantic chunks and very very dry (I almost choked on the dryness at one point). I had to add some of the Velveeta queso to it to even be able to eat any more. The beans and rice saved this one in whatever way a side dish can. The rice was flavorful, almost like a Spanish Rice. The beans were tasty and were absolutely covered with shredded cheese. Mixing the two together in each bite was a good choice. My husband got his old favorite from his previous experiences - the #5, a two enchilada plate. He had it with beef and said it wasn't as great as he remembered, that maybe they changed the recipe a little. I had a few bites and did enjoy the tortilla by itself (no meat) with the enchilada sauce that pooled on the plate. Fernando's is not inexpensive in the slightest, so I can't recommend it to anyone, based on that either. If you want some semi-okay Tex Mex at a pretty big up charge, then give Fernando's a try. I just think you can get a lot more authentic Mexican (for a lot cheaper) elsewhere in Omaha. read more

But we decided to get steak taco it was hard dry up little pieces of meat no taste around 5 little pieces on this big soft shell. My family ate here this evening and Im very Disappointed. I ordered the chicken and steak fajita and my husband ordered the beef nacho. I had more then 75% of my food left on the plate and didn't even think about getting a box for left overs. To start the beef was tough like jerky. The chicken was also tough and exstreamly dry. The beans and food in general had no flavor. The veggies were completely raw, like an after thought. The highlight of my plate was seriously the sour cream. I saw mainly older customers and that's likely what's keeping them in business because taste bud change as you get older. I also think it's a disappointment that you have to pay $8 for chips and a small bowl of below average pico. You get suckers when you pay at the end.. just a heads up for parents who don't participate in dye. read more

This location is great! Food was amazing and the service was speedy. This is probably one of the best chicken chimichangas I've ever had. The tortilla was perfectly crisp. The waitress recommended getting it with the blanco sauce instead of the house sauce. It was ten times better with the blanco sauce. The asada street tacos had so much flavor. They had way more filling than your average street taco. I do not recommend the prickly pear margarita. It was very sweet and I didn't love the flavor. I will try the house next time. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday. It wasn't busy, and we got seated quickly, but it took our server about 20 minutes to come around to get our drink order. From there, it took her another 10 minutes or so to bring the drinks and take our order. After that, it was another 30 minutes until we got our food. It really took painfully forever. My husband ordered the Blanco Enchilada that comes with carne asada and spicy chorizo. It came as a pitiful itty-bitty little tortilla with maybe two tablespoons of meat filling total. It also came with a small serving of rice and beans that were very good. They had good texture and flavor, but could have benefited from just a bit more on the portions. All in all I'd say the dish was 75% cheese. (And we LOVE cheese) It was tasty, but not really worth the amount that they charge. I ordered the Green Chile Enchilada Plate. I got a fair bit more filling in my enchiladas than my husband's enchilada did, but the chicken was not good. It was quite stringy, dry, and only slightly above room temperature. It was seasoned well, but tasted really old, like it had been sitting in the cooler for days and was reheated just enough to take the cold off, but not enough to warm it all the way through. My whole dish was barely above room temperature. The rice and beans were the best part of my dish. They were very good. While waiting on our food, we watched people come in after us, have their orders taken before us by the other servers, and then get their food before us. The whole thing took so long, we did consider leaving, but I hate to do that once I've ordered and it has gone back to the kitchen. We are not hard to take care of or demanding in any way as customers, but our waitress kind of acted like we were. When she finally brought out the food, she just tossed the plates on our table, asked us if we needed anything else, and then left to go hang out with other tables that I'm guessing were regulars. That was it. She didn't come back. I won't say she was terrible, but I will say that she really couldn't be bothered to deal with us. I had to go up to the register to get our check and a carry-out box. I usually like to eat at a place at least three times before giving it a review because I like to give places a fair shake, but I'm going ahead and reviewing Fernando's because I won't be going back. There are too many other good Mexican restaurants in our area with better food and better service. I noticed everyone working had on the t-shirts announcing their "Best of Omaha" ranking, and I just don't get it. We did not have that experience. Normally I always finish my meal, but I had to take about 1/3 to 1/4 home with me. So, make sure you bring your appetite. It came with rice, beans, and salsa in top of the peppers and chicken. Why not five stars? - it was nothing special. It was solid Mexican food. But given that I lived in tucson for 5 years, Texas for 2 years, and Chicago for 3 years, the menu, taste, ambience was nothing special. It is a solid restaurant and would happily go again. But, paying for chips downgraded the experience. The salsa was pretty average - making paying for it that much more disappointing. Pro tip: tons of parking. So, no need to add time to your arrival. Pro tip: ask for the pitcher of Margarita. It easily makes 4 margaritas for the table and a lower price point. From the cheese dip to the rice and beans, even the "salsa" on the table was soooo bland. I think we paid 11.99 for that cheese dip and it was gross. Super bland. No flavor. My chicken taco was ok but my ground beef taco I couldn't take another bite. Large portions but just not good. I had to just be done. Chips were good, two kinds. Great food with huge portions and a good price. Service was a bit slow for the lunch hour so that's why I give only 4 stars. Overall it was a good experience though. My wife had their stuffed quesadilla which was huge. She only could finish half of it, so basically two meals for one there. I ordered the 3 street tacos. I chose the pork, shrimp and chicken ones. I appreciated that the sauce automatically came on the side since sometimes places overload their tacos with too much sauce. The shrimp one was my favorite by far. Great combo of sweet and spicy. Server looked like she would rather be anywhere else but there. Our order was simple, yet wrong. Instead of sending mine back, traded plates since their steak tacos come plain, which I like but not even cheese. The steak was dry. The plate that I ordered, which again was wrong, was terrible. I had to go to the bartender to ask if there was one available. But I can sort of overlook that if the food was good! It was awful! I got the taco plate - two chicken tacos, beans & rice. Lukewarm at best. Th chicken was not trimmed well - very gristly. Only tried one taco and threw the second one out when I got home. I've eaten recently at the Fernando's on Pacific and it was very good. Best servers and good hot food. Too bad but at least the Pacific location is good and closer to Council Bluffs! read more

Aside from great company, my recent experience at Fernando's was all-around bad. I was visiting with three friends for happy hour. We got there at 4:00 and ordered our apps around 4:10-4:15. We ordered nachos and the queso dip to start. Until 5:00, these were supposed to be 1/2 off - great! When the nachos originally came out, they were dark brown on the top from being cooked too long. The server set them down and, upon seeing our faces, asked if they were too well done. We said yes, and they were remade. I also ordered a margarita. It came out almost clear and tasted like water that had maybe two drops of tequila. Three of us also ordered a meal. I can only speak of my meal, the huevos rancheros, when I tell you it was not good. It was essentially just a pile of beans with some egg yolk. If you typically like huevos rancheros, I can assure you that you will not like them here. When we got our checks, my friend noticed that her meal rang in as $5 more than it was listed on the menu. When she asked the server, she said "oh, you must have an old menu" and left it as though that was somehow my friend's fault. She asked for her to check with the manager who discovered that she did not, in fact, have an old menu, but the server charged her extra for the side that came with the meal. We also noticed that the apps didn't ring in as half off. When we asked the manager about that he said, "yeah, anything that gets rang in after 5:00 is automatically full price." We told him that we ordered them at 4:15, and he repeated "yeah, once it's after 5:00 it's full price." Safe to say I will never go here again, and I will certainly never recommend anyone to visit here. read more

Good food and service. Great house margarita! We started with the Queso Blanco Dip which is served with both flour and corn chips. The dip was mild and kept a smooth, melty consistency. The serving size was huge, especially for two people. For dinner, my husband had the #12 Steak Tacos combo which he thought was good, although he didn't care for the grilled onions. I tried the #3 Tamale Combo with a carnitas taco and a beef enchilada. The tamale was very good and had a lot of meat. The carnitas had good flavor as well. I also liked the beef enchilada, but it did get lost in cheese and lettuce. We went to Fernando's on Valentine's Day because of a good friend's prior recommendation. We got there at about 615pm and I wondered why there weren't hardly any cars in the parking lot, we parked right by the door. There were very few customers in the whole place, very surprising for Valentines Day I thought. We were immediately greeted and taken to a booth and our waitress promptly showed up, very cordial and friendly. We both ordered ground beef smothered enchiladas a La carte. They promptly arrived were hot and really looked good. The problem was that there was an over abundance of cheese, and not much ground beef at all. The enchiladas were very small and really hidden in the melted cheese and really hidden by the lettuce and olive smothering. The enchiladas themselves were so very bland and mediocre that we used almost the whole bottle of salsa that was on our table trying to improve them. The salsa was also very bland and watery. Fernandos used to be my favorite go-to place for enchiladas, but I just can't anymore. As much as I want to love and support, I will not be back. I don't know what happened, the food has been so bland the last few times. The chicken in my enchilada was extremely dry and chewy, it took forever until I was able to swallow a bite. I could not eat it. The beef one was a little better but had no flavor. The rice had zero taste. All I could taste throughout my whole dish was cheese, upon cheese... upon more cheese. My wife wanted texmex tonight. We visited Fernando's. It's has been a long time since we have been here. The ambiance and layout is dated and unchanged. The food quality and service was not good at all. We weee seated right away. The waitress took our drink order and gave us menus. We received our drinks and placed our order. We ordered a quest blanco dip. It was smaller than expected. The dip was bland. The cost 12.99. Overpriced not worth the money. Grocery store queso tastes better. My wife ordered the beef taco platter and i ordered 2 meat fajitas. We had to flag down the waitress for more water. When the meals arrived they were barely warm and very underseasoned. I don't think any seasoning was used on my fajitas. The rice and refried beans were unsalted and tasteless. Our waitress did not check on us until we called her over for drink refills and our ticket. The service was poor and food quality was very poor. The floor under our table was unclean. We will not go back. I can not recommend it to anyone. read more
