    Chips and salsa

This is a super fun restaurant in downtown Elkhorn. We were very pleasantly surprised to stumble on it after a yoga class nearby! We arrived at around 1:45 on a Sunday, so it looked like they had been busy but were clearing out by the time we arrived. There was an outdoor patio, an indoor heated patio, and an indoor seating area. I definitely want to come back this summer to sit outdoors with an icy margarita. The indoor patio was heated and a few people were sitting outside but we opted for indoors. The decor was beautiful, I loved all the bright colors, the movie posters, the big and small plants, and the colorful paper banners. I ordered a lime margarita, blended with salt, and my husband ordered the same but on the rocks. We both agreed the margarita was too sweet, I'd probably opt for a different drink next time. We got chips and salsa to start and could choose between corn, flour, or a mix of chips. I liked the corn chips best, they were fresh and minimally salty. The salsa was so good! Not too spicy, and it came with an avocado salsa which was also fresh and had chunks of onion. I ordered a shrimp taco and had the choice of corn or flour tortilla and soft, hard, or fried shell. I opted for the fried flour shell. I also ordered a pork tamal, which came with mole on the side. I really enjoyed both things I ordered, and loved the addition of the mole sauce! My husband and I both agreed we'd come back, which is always a good sign. The only bummer was each taco and the tamales were $5-6 a piece, which ended up being a pricey lunch.

We sat outside. The covered patio was nice with lively plants and colorful decor. We had service right away to bring our drink order. My request for skinny margarita was not on the menu, but they can make it delicious! Complementary chips, salsa, and guac mixture is great to snack on although the chips were a bit salty. My ground beef burrito stuffed with beans and rice had good flavor. I would definitely go back!

Super chill patio vibes. Our server was super kind and outgoing. The carne asada was incredible! Would recommend to anyone.

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! So delicious! I had the carne asada and it was a big portion. The mango margarita is my favorite. There's lots of seating and the waiter was really nice and attentive. Every time I come here, I have a great experience. I love the environment. Definitely a must stop!

What a breath of fresh air! We had an authentic Hacienda vibe...beautiful decor...cozy, with music to fit the vibe...delicious fish tacos topped with pico de gallo, lettuce piled high on a flour tortilla ...chips and salsa (green and red) Dean had crunchy carne asada tacos with a fried flour tortilla piled high served with 2 salsas (green and red) ..the margaritas are half price during happy hour...so we will return to try them! We loved the building and overall space embracing the Mexican culture.

We had a great experience here! I visited with my mom and sister after a girl's afternoon. The flour tortilla chips are an absolute must order. The margaritas are tasty, but not the best you'll ever have. Each of our meals was delicious, especially my BBQ enchiladas, which were a surprising favorite. The outdoor atmosphere is fantastic, and I definitely would recommend sitting out here if you are able to. I will say, this is pricier than your average Mexican food spot. Each entree was $20+

The enchiladas were really good! The real star of the show however was the flour tortilla chips with queso.. highly recommend!! We got margs, fantastic & the service was great too!

Maximo's Cantina is a cute place in downtown Elkhorn that is comfortable, with kind service , and pretty dang good food based on two experiences several years apart. On this occasion, we stopped by because we happened to be in the area. Gotta say that the prices were shockingly high. I know restaurants are having a difficult time, but $16+ for guacamole and about $14 for 4 stuffed jalapeños? I don't know if they're good because we aren't paying that. We did pay $4.40 for chips and salsa to start. The chips were spot on. You get two salsas, one is a regular red salsa which was great. The other is a creamy, onion, avocado dip which was out of this world. I wanted more (and the recipe, please!). For an entree, we shared the Enchiladas de Res, with shredded beef and verde topping. You get two enchiladas with beans, rice, and a small handful of lettuce. Oh my. Very flavorful overall! The beef was moist, oh it was good. We left satisfied in the stomach and a little sore in the wallet.

I love the atmosphere. Beautiful patio setup . We were seated right away but it did take longer than expected for service. We had already decided what we wanted so drinks and dinner were one and done and easy on the waitress. The enchiladas were good but not really $24 worth. I'd have gotten queso but too expensive. The atmosphere was my favorite part

Lives here for three years and have not taken the time to try this place out. Had a late night softball game and stopped in Friday night for some quality food and great reverse happy hour that was from 8 to close. The service was fantastic and we really enjoy this place. It will become my go to for Mexican food in Elkhorn.

    Almost $5 for one taco?

Food was ok. Won't be back the prices are outrageous! Almost $18 for a nacho appetizer and you have to pay extra to put meat on them.

They need some type of noise barrier perhaps on the ceiling? They start you off with 3 complimentary dips. I had wished they told us what the dips were but one was obviously salsa which was okay but a bit watery. One was a bean dip of sorts, but mostly liquid and a few beans thrown in. The other looked like a white queso but was anything but. Kind of tasted like ranch dressing but unsure what it actually was. Neither of us really cared for any of them. We split the steak fajitas and those were really good! Came with rice and refried beans The steak was made from ribeye and was both juicy and seasoned which seems hard to find around here! The tortillas were really good as well and I thought the beans had a great flavor to them. I'm not a rice person but my dining partner is and she absolutely did not like the rice. I also ordered a margarita which was delish! I'd definitely come back for the fajitas! Unsure if they have desserts as our menus were taken after we ordered but we didn't recall seeing a dessert on them. Next time we will ask!

We snagged their beautiful drink, Mango Habanero and oh was she spicy and also burnt to hell and back, but my husband won't be complaining... I chose their Shrimp Acapulco off their Avenue option. And if I'm honest, the breading was giving "sweet n sour chicken breading". All it was missing was the sweet n sour sauce, and bam. I didn't completely dislike it on the shrimp - which were plentiful - but I wasn't expecting it! I'd probably get them again. Drizzled some of their traditional queso on top and Now their chips - for their chips and salsa - were a tad, hard... and maybe on the more cooked than usual, aide. But paired with their queso AND salsa, they weren't terrible. We also grabbed their Carnitas Burrito, stuffed full of all the things listed in the menu and boy is she big! Our server came out and she was just frantic and scrambling to keep up with her tables the whole time. It was strange, she came over to drop our chips and salsa (didn't take our drink order), brought water (took our drink order then), brought over the drink (didn't take our food order), stopped by to tell us she had to wash her hands, and finally took our food order when she came back. Once the food arrived, she neglected to refill our waters or beverages. The chips and salsa were ...odd. The chips were thick and the salsa was kind of paste-like. The taste on these wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Then came out the food. My husband got two street tacos and they were so unappetizing that he didn't even finish eating them. I got a Birria quesadilla which was fine but not spectacular... but the rice and beans that came on the side had the equivalent flavor as baby food. Overall, this place wasn't dirty and the staff was friendly (despite being inattentive), so it's not a bad place to visit. But for the price, you're better off going to another restaurant at Village Pointe.
