Went to Abelardo's tonight for dinner. The drive through was busy but not busy inside. It was cold inside their heater was struggling to keep the heat inside the restaurant. Ice machine did not work well. I ordered a chicken burrito, my wife and a daughter had combination meals. Overall you get good quantity but not much flavor. Very bland. The food is good, generous portions, fairly priced but the service is just SO bad at this location. You never know when they're actually going to be open or not despite advertised and posted hours, lights will all be on and you pull up and nobody ever takes your order or acknowledges you in any way, well after they're supposed to be open. Other locations aren't as convenient as this one for me and I'm not driving a couple of city miles out of my way for food. When I do call to make sure things are correct I cannot get an answer. I was told when I finally get an answer that the phone is not a priority. The fried taco was the highlight. They have so many options. I ordered the fried beef taco, fish taco and a steak taco. I prefer flour tortillas (I know its not authentic) I tried it anyway. This small drive thru shack is always satisfying. I honestly haven't ventured into most of the menu, because the items I get are always so good that I stick to them. I always get the Diablo burrito ($6.99), which is steak and shrimp with chipotle sauce and French fries along with the standard fillings. The tortilla is great, way better than store bought, but probably made elsewhere. There's a ton of shrimp, and the flavors meld really well together. The veggie burrito is good too... especially when you add steak to it. It's rice, beans, lettuce, pico and guac. The quesadillas are good, and the churros are also good and well worth the $1.49. However, the tamales are consistently super dry and fairly bland. I don't recommend them. Also, the chile verde burrito is wayyyy too salty. Overall this is a great drive thru place and the food is much much better than the other Abelardo's locations around town that I've been to. The other locations have all been disappointing, but not here. Definitely check this place out. read more

Faves: Veggie burrito, grilled Veggie quesadilla (not on the menu, but they will make it for you, and it's humongous) Horchata Churro These dudes are super nice and really appreciate it when you tip. There's usually just two or three of them in there, so be patient. I got a breakfast burrito once and it dripped with grease. Not my favorite. Very disappointed with this location. Try a different location! Let me preface this by saying Abelardo's is one of my favorite places to eat in Omaha, hands down. I've gone to other locations too many times to count, and have had nothing short of excellent food and excellent service every time. My boyfriend and I moved to a new apartment and were SO excited to see there was an Abelardo's so close by. The first time I went, I had decided to get up early and go get some breakfast right when they opened to surprise my boyfriend before work. Their hours state that they open at 6, and my boyfriend leaves for work at 6:30 so I thought I'd be just enough time to get him food. I was in the drive-thru by 5:45 and waited patiently until 6:05 before saying "hello?" In the drive thru speaker. Nothing. I tried driving up to see if anyone was in there and I couldn't tell. I called the location, no answer. I knocked on the window, no answer. I waited there until 6:20 and no one was there. Finally I left. I just don't understand why they would say they open at 6am and no one was there. I was very frustrated by this, and didn't return for awhile. In fact I waited almost a year before returning, again for breakfast but this time and a much more reasonable time, around 10am. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese taco and was informed they only had sausage egg and cheese tacos, and bacon egg and cheese burritos (???) so I asked if they could substitute bacon for the sausage and just make me a bacon egg and cheese taco. They agreed and I proceeded to wait ~10/15 minutes to get my taco. I drove away and parked to eat it. When I opened my taco is was only a tortilla and bacon, no egg, no cheese. What the heck?? So I went back through the drive thru (I had to wait another 15 minutes while someone else ordered and got their food. Finally I let them know the problem and waited another 10 minutes while they made an egg and cheese to give me. I don't think I'll be returning to this location. Hopefully they get new management or employees or something because the company itself and other locations are amazing. read more

They screwed up my wife's order too. This has happened the last couple of times I've gone there, and when they get the order right, the quality is inconsistent. LOVE Abelardo's! I go to the location at 180th and Pacific, and the food is always great! So much better (and 1000% more consistent than Lina's), and open 24 hours is great for this "third shifter"! Their speakers at the drive-thru could use replacement, though. I just try to speak slowly and clearly, then hope they could hear me better than I can hear them... and so far, only one mix-up. But everything on their menu is great, so even the time we got something different than what we ordered, it was delicious! read more

I accidentally ordered super nachos instead of nachos fries, so when the employee who took my order came to the window I apologized and said I made a mistake with my order. We went to the location 180th and Pacific, 2 weeks in a row. Last week they remodeled and so they were closed, with no advertising. This week we went back because we got a gift certificate for Christmas. The people who bought it was at the 72nd and Giles location. They were told that you can use it at any location. Now we were told that it can only be used at 72nd and Giles, and that is after waiting for 45 minutes in the drive through. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! I have never been to a chain restaurant that you can only use it at that location. THAT IS REALLY POOR SERVICE!! To say it will never be used because we are located in Elkhorn. Why have other locations when you only honor at one?!?!?!? Makes no sense. Make sure you specify this online and at your locations so no more suckers buy from you! read more

Not horrible, but not great. I'm not sure what my expectations were getting Mexican food out of a little hut, but I had heard good things about Abelardo's so was excited to finally try it. It's an interesting set up--a little shack type building that is two sided for drive-through orders. We had somewhat of a large order for a drive-through with 4 different orders, and unfortunately when we got home (about 10 minutes away) we found that one of the orders wasn't in our bag. Our fault for not checking, but still maddening to have to drive back to get our forgotten order. We had one order of chicken nachos, two burrito combo meals, and a torta. The chicken nachos were piled high--lots of chicken, cheese, salsa, and guac on them. The chips themselves were delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken. While there was a lot of it, it just wasn't the best chicken. The burrito combo meal is a great deal--for the price of about $7, you get two nice size burritos, rice, and refried beans. The torta was also very good and I enjoyed the bread that it was on. Overall, if you are looking for quick and semi inexpensive Mexican food, go here. However, if you have the time there are a lot of better places to get your Mexican food craving taken care of. read more

I don't even know where to start. First, this place is extremely dirty and could use an entire scrub down. With good food it can be easy to overlook dirty conditions, but there was no good food to mask the visuals. I got a plethora of items to try and sadly didn't finish eating any of them. The nachos were dry as they really skimp on the cheese and other toppings. The fajita meat I added was overcooked and lacked seasoning. The taquitos were burnt and almost as hard as a rock. The tacos and burritos were mostly tortilla with little filling. I didn't expect to find an outstanding Mexican place here in NE, but got excited when I saw the reviews. When I found out that an Abelardo's had opened up near me, I thought it was a mistake. When I lived in midtown, I'd stop by there all the time as the food was tremendous. I hadn't had a chance to go back...until today. I ordered the burrito and enchilada combo (chicken) which came with rice and beans, a fish taco and a side of three taquitos with guacamole and cheese. Sound like a lot? It was. I hadn't had a fresh meal in a good day and a half, so I was going to take advantage of it. Taquitos were fantastic. Nice and crispy and the guac was perfect. The fish taco was full of flavor and a pleasure to devour. The burrito and enchilada were both huge and the rice and beans both fresh and a lovely end to the meal. Here's the skinny: You want the most authentic Mexican food in Omaha outside of one/a kitchen with abuela's recipes handed down? Not Taco Bell, not Taco John's (this ain't Tex-Mex). Throw them both out the window, drive through 24 hours a day, get breakfast or your standard day fare for a comparable price as either of the above. This place is highly hit or miss based on the previous reviews and my personal experience. The very first time we went here was roughly 2 years ago and it missed the mark. The second time I went here was last night and it tasted pretty good! So my overall observations are... 1. Greasy 2. Good portions 3. "Pricey"- Given that it's West Omaha with higher rent it's probably more than what people are used to paying for Mexican (ie South O prices). 4. Service can be slow- Maybe it's made-to-order and that's why they're slow. It honestly takes as long as the Runza on W. Center, however, maybe people expect it to be as fast as Taco Bell? 5. Friendly- The girl who took our order was engaging and friendly. I haven't had the breakfast food and we usually only go after 8PM when it's not as busy so that might have something to do with it. All to say, I would rated them 2 stars 2 years ago when we first went here, but on my most recent experience it was pretty good. read more
