We bought a juicy flavorful whole chicken which came with rice, delicious beans, tortillas and salsa. The whole meal was $26. What a great deal for a delicious meal. The customer service was great and my husband was in and out of there within 10 minutes. I would show a picture but he got home, the food was hot and we tore it up. Hmm. Did I got a totally off night? Was I at the same restaurant people have been raving about? The one and only thing that really stood out was the chicken tinga I got as a side with my combo #3. Also wish I'd read the review about steering clear of Thursday nights because while we didn't get to listen to any karaoke the staff was far busier setting up for it than they were concerned about how microphone squads, loud televisions, and otherwise weird acoustical nuisances would affect customers. Speaking of service, I'm definitely used to dealing with language barriers in restaurants but we somehow got shuffled through 5 different servers working. Made me feel like no one wanted to deal with us perhaps? Okay... the food. Tried a bunch of chicken. While the chicken in my entree was also good, it was just that. Nothing blowing my mind. Fried yucca was unique. Kids mac & cheese appeared to be Kraft. And crinkle fries were (average frozen type). Chicken was good. Sensing a theme... unfortunately my husband ordered a steak taco which was not good apparently. Even his chicken street taco he described as "totally average". Horchata - which I normally live for - slightly under flavored? Milkshakes that kids didn't finish...? What's happening here. Finally, we got some wings. I need to check back with the person who told me they have "the best" because the green chili wings were just... fine. Ultimately I left feeling deflated and disappointed, sadly. Great spot! Had the el pastor and carnitas street tacos, husband had the 1/2 rotisserie chicken. Everything was wonderful. Deliciously light smoky flavor to the moist chicken. Carnitas was perfect. Will definitely be back on Sunday to try the birrua. read more

Wow! The chicken is delicious! Great flavor and moist! The beans were good, it was a little spicy but not overwhelming! Mexican rice was delicious my favorite other than the chicken. I got Agua de Jamaica and it has become one of my top 10 to go for the Agua Fresca! I always look for something that's not too overwhelmingly sweet and that the Hibiscus flavor comes out! 10/10 for the chicken, rice, and Agua de Jamaica. El Pollo Tote is my go to for grilled chicken and tostones! I'm also a big fan of their potato wedges. It's been pretty difficult to find a place that has fried plantains on standby when the grocery stores don't have any and for that I am super grateful for this establishment. The customer service is very friendly and you get your food in a timely manner. We have tried their wings, we have made tacos with what we have had and there is really nothing that I can dislike about this place. Specializing in rotisserie chicken, this establishment also has a full menu of other chicken inspired Mexican dishes like enchiladas, tacos, torta and tostada (all with a chicken focus). They have a lot of sides (rice, beans, cactus, fried yucca, plantains, gizzards, chicken feet) to pick from, Mexican breakfast, and Mexican drinks/ desserts too! There is enough on this menu to go many times and try different items- and I like that they aren't playing it safe with American-only favorites. Clean and casual inside with a cool graffiti wall mural to lend a hand at a trendy spin. Solid rotisserie chicken and their fresh pressed juice is also amazing. My special fella asked me to bring him lunch and fortunately and eventually fortunately I had not cooked anything nor did I have anything that would be ready in 30 minutes. So, I Decided to give this place a try and boy am I glad I did. I ordered nachos with cheese and they were absolutely delicious. He asked for a burrito, and I ordered 2, because he generally has a pretty big appetite and 1 burrito is usually not enough. This thing was huge and stuffed with way more than enough meat. Don't you hate it when you get a giant burrito and you get all excited and then you bite into it and it's 85% rice? Sooooo disappointing, this was not the case, there was at least 55% or more meat to other stuff ratio. AND guacamole was included, didn't even have to pay extra and it too was delicious. I am so glad, I found this place, i rarely come this way, but now I have a reason too. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant and the staff was super friendly too!! read more

But went on Wednesday which is half priced wings Day. 24 wings for 13 bucks so yeah I'm in there like swimwear. My bf and I ordered the spicy garlic which were good!! Had a kick to them. And I am the ultimate spicy food connoisseur so trust me because I said so (there not that bad meaning hot though) they had a good flavor to them. We also picked up the buffalo flavor & honey barbecue. We ordered the potato wedges but they were out:( (omg there's a potato shortage guys!) I have been wanting to try this fairly new Mexican grill in my neighborhood at the corner of 50th & Grover in the Family Fare plaza and finally had an opportunity today. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. I got a combo plate to go that included 2 chicken tacos with a side of rice and tingas (after reading all the great reviews on Yelp!). I also added a piece of flan - I've made flan and this looked like the real deal. The staff was super nice and there was a little condiment bar to help myself to pico de gallo and salsa verde. My food was still piping hot when I got home and tasted fantastic! I could only eat half and saved the other half for dinner. It was a great value for around $9 for the meal and a little extra for the flan, which was to die for by the way. I'm definitely coming back! While everything I tried was pretty great (including chicken tacos, yucca fries and chips and guac), the star of the show was the #2 chicken dinner. With the dinner, you get a half roasted chicken topped with a delicious savory sauce and two sides (opted for cactus and potato salad). The meat fell right off the bone was juicy. The sauce was interesting with hints of curry and cumin. If you're a first timer, I'd recommend ordering this (it was also what the staff suggested). In all, a great meal for a reasonable price. This is a family run restaurant that I want to win. We ate in for an early dinner. We were greeting by the charming Dahlia an high school senior aspiring dental student who was taking orders and translating for her family. We were greeting with some delicious chicken "noodle" soup. I put noodles in parentheses because it was some type of miniature pasta balls in a chicken broth. Yum, yum. I ordered the grilled half chicken, with beans rice and plantains, - it was so good and flavorful!! Plantains were made fresh, piping hot out the pan, slightly crisp with soft sweet bananas. The only thing that was a miss was the chicken wings. I think they put these on the menu to try to capitalize on the chicken wing craze. They do need it. This place was a GIFT to us today! After a hot and humid morning of moving furniture, I was craving a breakfast burrito like the kind we would get when we lived in New Mexico. That's a TALL order - in New Mexico, the breakfast burrito is king and you can find one on every corner. Here in Omaha - not so much. So I dug through Yelp menus and found that, not only did El Pollo Tote have breakfast burritos, they had several varieties. We called ahead - I got the Bacon and Eggs burrito and special ordered a burrito for my huz with eggs, beans, and potatoes. The order was ready in 10 minutes and we picked it up with salsas. The burritos were big and hot and each bite was a perfect ratio of ingredients. It was SO SATISFYING. I have convinced myself that the reviews on here are not for the same restaurant. We were ignored the second we walked in, had to stare down the staff to get anyone to come over. The first picture is their "chips and queso". I'm sorry, but that is something I make when I'm drunk on a Saturday and ballin on a budget. Not when I pay to go out to eat. The second picture is their chicken tacos. Never told us we would be deboning our own chicken, maybe that's on us for the language barrier. They also forgot about our chips and queso so it didn't come out till we had finished. This restaurant was laughably disgusting. The only thing that was nice was the decorations on the inside. Due to our general willingness to try any new place and considering there have been so many hit and misses with countless others in the Omaha area - we rolled the the dice on El Pollo Tote one Sunday afternoon. Items ordered: Nachos: thank you for doing these right and well with hand made chips layered ever so nicely with beans, guac, crema, pico, light cheese & fried chicken bits and skin... Milanesa torta: thinly pounded chicken breast breaded and fried with flavor, guac, jalapeños, lettuce and tomatoes placed lovingly between appropriately thick, springy and nicely flattened bread. Chicken and 1/2 served all three ways: Do it. Just Do It. House, Spicy and my new wild obsession, encacahuatado, a luscious sweet fruit like nut sauce - Chicken is tender, moist, flavorful and for the quality the quantity & cost is insane - easily fed our family of four with leftovers for days. Rice: they do it nicely Fried Plantains: crispy caramelized exterior with that creamy delight of interior satisfaction. Potato wedges: good Nopales: seasoned so well and authentically and spicy and I want them all to myself. Proper condiment table: marinated carrots & jalapeños; someone must stop me from eating the entire vat... pickled peppers and onions; I cannot stop myself and want to put them on absolutely all the food I consume, green tomatillo; thank you el Pollo tote - please offer it by the bottle, spicy red is earthy with zing, creamy avocado is a nice respite from the spice if need be. Good really doesn't cut what's happening at this establishment. Leaving expletives aside it's just so very, very... GO and although the wait will possibly be long (very long for our to go order but the staff was incredible and the food well worth it). The wait ended up serving me well because I was able to observe many different menu plates leave the kitchen and realized, quickly, that I must try everything there. The place is clean and orderly - the staff friendly accommodating and kind. They serve breakfast and have a drive through making me feel even more affection. Not even a week later we had to return for a phone in to-go order. The service was outstanding and the food hot and ready upon arrival. What can I say. I want nothing more than long romantic walks on the beach with their tortas, lazy drive through breakfasts post late night Netflix binge sessions with their nachos and, yes, I have already introduced the chicken to my parents... will you be mine El Pollo Tote? Can I just say, they have their entire menu on a window near their entrance, which is genius for this location/demographics. The literal translation is "the chicken tote" and it lives up to its name! I snagged their Hawaiian Torta and the mix between sweet (pineapple), salty (ham), gooey cheese, and a crisp buttery torta darn near knocked my socks off. You definitely get your bang for your buck! It's a new place with lots of upside. Give it a chance and some leeway for being not only a new restaurant but also a new restauranteer and you will enjoy your visit. I had the #4 small chicken enchiladas. Even though they were just chicken, it was really good chicken. All their chicken is roasted in-house. My buddy had the spicy chicken and he raves. Super moist. Pretty spicy. I tried the sauce. It has kick in a good way. We also had the cactus. It was good. Slightly spicy and well cooked. It is also cooked in house. We then finished off our meal with cheesecake--uber good, horshata--homemade, and then because we met the cook, some off menu stuff they are trying out and plan to put in the menu. Some cold lemon cooked shrimp and salsa on crackers. So good. The chef said he plans on rolling out a larger menu as they get bigger. They also had a drive through which would make getting a To go order easy. I'm excited to watch this place get better and to try out other dishes. read more
