Randomly ordered the Camarones A La Diablo Very similar to the Spanish dish Camarones Guisados, tomato paste with mushrooms, garlic, parsely, oregano butter sauteed with Prawns, slow simmered. Picking this random restaurant wasn't that bad at all. Finished every last drop of the sauce paired with flour tortilla. Sometimes you just gotta take that leap of faith and believe a Mexican restaurant in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of Omaha can do your stomach justice. All meals are complimented with Tortilla chips made in house. The salsa roja was a blend of Huy Fong Foods (Siracha Brand) Sambal Hot Sauce and traditional blended pico de gallo. Fried beans were not too oily, I'm not normally a beans lover but I enjoyed the pairing here. Glad I tried this hole in the wall over Cracker Barrel next door. Now that I think about, we do have a similar dish in Chinese Cuisine. You take head-on Prawns, oil a wok, throw in Ginger and medium simmer the prawns with the the ginger diced. When you approach Azteca, you get the feeling that you are at yet another mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant in Anytown, USA. And for many people, that's awesome! And so, I gave this restaurant 4 stars, because I know the parking lot was halfway full, and my partner has a friend who loves it. So if you are not particular (like me....), this place is great! Don't read on! If you ARE particular.... then I might recommend you keep looking. The fajitas were not great. I actually couldn't tell the difference between the chicken and beef at first glance, and it required closer inspection. This was due to the fairly heavy marinade or sauce which covered the meat. The amount of meat wasn't particularly generous, and the vegetables seemed to have been pre-cooked (over-cooked) before being "grilled" which I think only occurred in the skillet. They were drab in color and limp. I could keep going, but it feels mean, because it really had a comfortable, local feeling in the restaurant and the servers were friendly. Up to you! read more

Their moderately spicy salsa and guacamole have an amazing, unique, tasty flavor--additionally, the chicken flavoring on the fajitas is unique and delicious. Open-Mind: This place is in an interesting part of town. It is near a truck stop off the highway. Therefore, it does not have great curb appeal. However, this is by far the best Mexican food in the Omaha area. Therefore, do not judge the book by its cover. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of Mexican food. Stopped in Sunday evening around 5PM and the place was already very busy. It was near 100 degrees outside and obviously their air conditioning was struggling to keep up but was still bearable. For as busy as they were the service was top notch! I enjoyed the chips although not as thin as I prefer it was good to dip in the bean dip they come with. I ordered a cheese and onion enchilada. Azteca is a callback to the family-operated restaurants of previous decades. Why? Because they have great food here with amazing portion sizes and at reasonable prices. If you order any single one of their dinner platters you might not need to eat until lunch the next day. It's that much food. Azteca is one of my go-to restaurants not just for the quality, big portions, and price. Their "American" menu also has some hidden gems, not the least of which are their burgers. Guys. Their burgers (and fries too) are AMAZING. And so modestly priced for how huge they are. Honestly, if you're jonesing for a burger, skip the fast-food places nearby and just go to Azteca instead. You'll probably end up paying about the same, if not less, and you'll get a bigger burger and a far better meal. All their main menu items also come with chips and salsa. Note: their salsa is delicious and QUITE hot, at least by Midwest standards. I should also mention that their service is always friendly and VERY quick. Downsides? I do not steer away from the menu, I always get the chicken fajitas, they are my favorite fajitas from any place! They are served with guac, lettuce, and sour cream and your choice of tortillas, flour is top tier for my fajitas. The service is always fast, also nice to be brought a pitcher or water so I don't have to keep bothering the server for a refill! Almost as soon as you are sat, you are usually greeted with a full plate of delicious, thin chips, a delicious bean dip, cabbage mix, and a delicious mild salsa! We got pretty lucky on timing - showed up on a Thursday at 6 pm, and it wasn't too packed yet (it got full later, though). Our server was super nice and patient with the in-laws who are older and a bit hard of hearing. He really went out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable. The food here is amazing! Azteca knows how to deliver some serious flavor. First, they start you off with 3 types of dip and a bowl of chips, and they are SO. GOOD. And the chips are homemade, I think. I ordered an avocado tostada and enchilada. It was huge and tasted awesome. My husband is a vegetarian, and he absolutely LOVED the veggie burrito. They ave a few different options for veggie loves, which he always appreciates. The ambience could be a bit better, and when it gets packed, things can get loud, so it's not exactly the spot for a quiet conversation. Came for dinner here recently. Prior visits have always been great...friendly greeting, smiling servers and quick to take drink and food orders.. Unfortunately, this was far from our experience this time. Dining area was totally dead, our server was not to be seen. My husband was ready to leave. No drink order, no interest to see if we'd been taken care of. Finally, some one showed up. Food came quickly along with a few beers. Food was to be expected and as we had remembered it in the past. We saw the reviews and decided to try it. The boys loved their tacos and burger! My husband was very pleased with his fajitas, but I wasn't as excited about my food. Maybe I wasn't really feeling Mexican, but I felt the enchiladas were not as great as they could be. My plate was crazy hot (as told), but the corners of my food were burnt because of it. I had to wait a good 5 minutes before I could even attempt to taste my food. I'm all about my food being hot but holy cow this was insanely hot! My cheese was crispy even. Once I could try it the taste was ok. They had flavored everything nicely, but i guess I was turned off by presentation to really give a try comment. In my 28 years on this earth, I've never liked refried beans, but this all changed when we stopped at Azteca! We were seated immediately and brought chips and three different dips. There was a bean dip and salsa, and I'm unsure of the other one. When you finish your chips, it does cost extra to get more chips or dips. Our waitress was very attentive, and we were able to order quickly. I got the lunch combo with an enchilada and taco. They were both chicken. The enchilada was delicious, but let's talk about the beans. The beans were seasoned well, had plenty of cheese, and just tasted great! I love La Mesa, but Azteca has their beans nailed! The place looked like it was falling apart terrible carpeting, bathroom doors looked broken and it hasn't been touch or renovated in forever. When we walked in it smelled amazing! Smelled like a true Mexican restaurant. I ordered a strawberry margarita, it was a little underwhelming. The chips and salsa they put out were not good. The food came out quick thou the service wasn't the best. We got nachos which were meh and tacos which were pretty good. I don't think it's worth the stop at all. Always love finding a good Mexican joint when driving across country! So good I wanted to leave a review. The chips and salsa - different BUT oh so good. You get refried beans, a diced medley of yum- onion, cabbage, cilantro and a hot salsa - a perfect trifecta with the warm chips. They sold out of the Chile verde - which was a disappointment for my hubby and his meal. You could smell it when we walked in the restaurant it smelled bomb. My soup Albondongas hit the spot- the broth was beautiful and flavorful. Not oily. I truly appreciated the huge amount of cilantro and onion chopped up on the side and the amount of vegetables. I came here on a recent trip to Omaha. Nebraska in general is not the most vegan-friendly state. The first place I tried that had seemed promising was closed, so I decided to try my luck here. The staff was friendly. I was quickly brought chips and salsa, a bowl of cabbage slaw, and a bowl of mushy beans. The beans were not vegan, but the slaw was and the salsa was nice and spicy. My server was knowledgeable about what veganism is and directed me around the menu accordingly, so definitely bonus points for this! I ordered the garden fresh burrito, a fully vegan option with zucchini, red cabbage, beans, rice, and other veggies -- all covered in a sauce that was It came on a floral China plate that reminded me of eating at my grandmothers. Honestly, I did not expect much coming here but have to say that this vegan burrito was absolutely delicious! This weekend I ventured out to Azteca. I thought that it was decent but probably not a top Mexican food restaurant. I ordered a few strawberry margaritas, the Colorado burrito and ate quite a few chips and salsa. I do like that as soon as we got to the restaurant we were greeted friendly and got chips, salsa, and come cabbage dip(?) kind of odd but wasn't too bad and I personally haven't seen that anywhere else so cool they have their own thing. The Colorado burrito itself was pretty good, made decently, but I don't think it was anywhere in the top of the best burritos in Omaha didn't really fill me up. and there wasn't rice and beans on the side like there is most places. Ordered Beef enchiladas and a tamale which I always get in a Mexican cafe to judge the quality of the shredded meat. The tamale came to the table virtually cold. I sent it back to be reheated. The enchiladas were covered in a bland brown sauce about room temperature. The beef in the enchiladas was a grainy soup and mostly missing. My wife ordered a chimichanga which resembled a plump burrito with a tomato on top of it. She reported it fairly tasteless. Upon arrival chips are served but in place of salsa a bean slurry is served along with some cabbage slaw and extremely hot sauce. The guacamole is really vanilla with no kick at all. Essentially the best I could rate this place is clean and affordable TexMEx. Won't be back. Too many other authentic Mexican stores available. read more

So you pull up to this place, right off the interstate to Lincoln and you think, well this is going to be an adventure. But it was packed, and it was only 4:45 so that was a good sign! There is a old red train caboose outside and in we went. Immediately when we were sat, we were given beans, salsa and a slaw. Awesome! I really enjoyed their salsa. Had a tiny hot to it. Once we ordered the food came out within 10 minutes. Super fast, really good beef. The waitresses were so sweet to my kids. My daughter (1) was chowing on rice and making a mess. They were still so nice. At the end they brought them chips with cinnamon and sugar and whipped cream. That was really nice and I will be back.
