The salsa that they make you pay for won't even mix with the cheese dip which means it must be an oil based product. The food itself was ok but very over priced. RUDE as heck people working here and I had a large group from a local business that they refused to accommodate, stating "they do NOT take reservations, its first come first serve and they absolutely will not seat anyone until everyone in your party is here". The lady I spoke with was snotty and didn't care one bit to lose out on the business of over 28 people. Horrible horrible people running this business and taking all business moving forward elsewhere. If you don't mind horrible treatment, the food is great - but I would support someone else in a heartbeat! I recently visited my family in Omaha and suggested that we try El Bee's as it had been many years since we'd patronized the restaurant. We were very disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. They need to be cited for impersonating a Mexican restaurant! Granted, I live in San Diego and can find excellent and authentic Mexican food in every direction, but this was an abomination. I ordered the chicken fajitas, which should have been the first item out of the kitchen, but the other three at the table had their meals way before me. They brought out a container of tortillas (which were cold and uncooked, I kid you not). Then, after much time had passed, they brought out the sizzling cast iron pan of fajitas. The chicken was bland and tasteless as if it came out of a package and just heated up. The veggies were ok, but no spices whatsoever. My family said their plates (all differing items) were just ok but not great. Our waitress never bothered to ask how the food was, she seemed more preoccupied with any other tables she had. As she was taking the plates away, she asked me if I wanted to take my uneaten food with me and/or the full container of tortillas. I told her that the food was inedible and the tortillas were uncooked and that she would have known that if she'd ever bothered to stop and ask how things were. Ambiance, great. Small down feel, nice servers and staff. Watched the bartender make the margaritas and it was pure booze. The flour chips and salsa were bad. The cheese dip tasted like thick burnt cheese. I am guessing everything is smothered here. I ordered a grande quesadilla and you couldn't tell that's what it was. Same for the burrito. The seating is plentiful and it's decorated with some beautiful murals. The food was once spectacular but has become mediocre. The service that we received wasn't as spectacular as it once was either. It is fast paced and you get your food quickly. It just seemed like they cut corners on everything. My family was very excited to try El Bees for the first time but sadly, this will be our last. We walked in and immediately noticed the rude host (who I later found out was the owner). He was rude toward multiple parties and seemed annoyed they were busy. The margaritas are not made with a margarita mix, which we were informed after they were already brought out to us. The $10 chips and salsa were basically diced tomatoes. This was all too much for us so we decided to grab our check after the 15 minutes we were there and went to another Mexican restaurant. My family met for dinner at El Bees. We were seated right away. Our server was very attentive. As soon as everyone arrived we ordered our dinners. Our wait time for the food was really good. My wife and i ordered beef tacos. The taco shells were fried flour tortillas. They were a little greasy. The issue we had was the meat tasted unseasoned. Plain hamburger with diced tomatoes lettuce and shredded cheese. We poured on as much tabletop hot sauce to give it any flavor. My one son had a similar issue with a beef taco salad. He needed the ranch dressing to add flavor. My other son ordered the chimichangas. He was happy with the size had flavor. When we received the bill the amount changed was higher than the menu. The tacos in the menu were 5.75 the charge was 6.20. The restaurant was busy and clean. Overall, the food was not great . If we come back we will order a dish with sauces. We wouldn't order the tacos or taco salads again. It was $60 for four people excluding drinks. read more

El Bree's is a long time family favorite that's been around since I can remember. They have your typical Mexican favorites like enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, and a few American options like hamburgers and wings as well. This review is based on our last two take out experiences for food quality only so I can't speak for the wait staff at this time. I decided to wait to write the review after our first take out attempt because I wanted to give them a chance thinking it was maybe because it was a busy night, but sadly the second time the food was about the same: just ok. My wife and I both tried the chicken enchiladas and a beef and chicken taco with the chips and queso dip. Unfortunately, their chicken both times we went recently was dry and lacking flavor. It needed lots of salsa and sour cream to enjoy. The tacos are pretty good overall. I'd recommend their flour tortillas which are my favorite. Thick and crispy shell filled to the top with beef (or chicken) and all the typical toppings you'd expect. The beef is good, not greasy, but also not overly flavorful. Definitely better than the chicken in my opinion. Lastly, the queso dip is not something I'd order again. It is very pasty, and way too thick for my liking. Even after warming it up once home, it still was too thick and bland. Their flour tortilla chips are their best product by far. Thank goodness for good friends with good recommendations because I would not have known this mexican restaurant was just 10 minutes west of my house. In Waterloo, on your way to Valley or Fremont it's a great spot for margaritas and mexican food. The restaurant is very big and it is ALWAYS busy. They're two separate dining rooms and they accommodate big groups and little kiddos. I continue to get great service each time I visit. The food is always on point. Their cheese dip is not my favorite, but it is still soo good. The fajitas are so filling and lucky for me or my husband I bring home leftovers. This is a great girls night spot, where pitchers of margaritas are sure to go down quick. Love this spot! read more

Love this place!! Easy to find and plenty of parking. There's a fun area in the foyer for kids to play video games if you have to wait for a table. There's a bar, dining and even a private party room. The service is always great here. We tend to stick to our favorites, bean dip, chicken enchiladas and tacos. Last night I had the taco salad and it did not disappoint. They were very accommodating to my modifications and special requests. And of course my mom saved room for their delicious fried ice cream. My family and I fondly refer to this restaurant as El Cheese. Pretty much every entree is smothered in the stuff. And that's not a complaint. Ironically, my favorite dish here is an exception - the fajitas. They aren't served with shredded cheese, but you can request it. The marinated chicken is fantastic, and served sizzling hot, as it should be! As for prices, I think El Bees is a little high, especially for some of the appetizers. This is the first time ever ordering from El Bee's and I'm sorry to say will be the last. Extremely disappointed. Below is a picture of my Burrito Fantastico. It looked like all of the ingredients were put into a styrofoam box without an actual tortilla which should actually be present for the ingredients to be encased in. The rice, burrito filling, and sour cream were all mixed together and it was simply disgusting. Super disappointing considering how much this take out meal cost. Way overpriced for something Taco Bell could have done better. I called in and brought my concern to their attention. If you come knowing what to expect, this can be a good experience. It's a small town stop that probably is the only watering hole for miles, so I can certainly see the draw in coming here for dates, family dinners, and pit stops between Waterloo and Omaha. The food is certifiable tex mex, and if you love that gooey oozy cheese with a side of meat, then this is your place. It's not quite taco bell or taco johns, as the chips and the hard shells for tacos are freshly fried for you, but its doesnt have the wow factor for me in specialty items or unique sauces or salsas. Since I dont live anywhere near Waterloo, I'm sure my visits will be limited, but I think this is a staple in this town for many of the locals and will continue to serve some hot fresh tex mex for many generations to come. read more

I literally grew up at El Bee's! I have no idea how Bob is able to ask "how many?" waive his hand around and divine a wait time. The food isn't fine dining level mexican food nor is it super exotic. It is done very well and is "comfort" style mexican food. There really wasn't a hostess so you just stand around until this guy came up front and asked certain people how many We were there 15 minutes before he noticed us While waiting we were watching the bartenders. They were working very very hard. The man seating people kept going to this one bartender and placing large orders. He was working very hard when the man said "at least act like you are a bartender". I was shocked that that kind of behavior is still done. I asked my friend if we could leave bur then the guy had a table available. Our efficient wait staff took our drink and food order. Food came out in reasonable time. Was great. We were asked if all was okay when she dropped the bill off. Never asked if we needed anything Drink refills not offered And then we noticed that not one of the wait staff smiled. Not one. This is one of my favorite restaurants. It's a classic small town restaurant with local owners. The food is always so good - I've never had a bad experience with any of the options on the menu. The margaritas are incredible. The waitstaff is always amazing. The owners are always so nice and are always on top of things.
