I had been a fan of Aztecs for years when we lived in powell but we moved downtown in 2017, we only go back every few months. Yesterday, for our first time in over 3 months (COVID 19), we decided to eat inside a restaurant and I couldn't wait to eat at Azteca. My all time favorite, unmatched in Columbus, is the Carnitas... Delicious! My wife has a few favorites, but she is never disappointed with the steak Quesadilla. The menu and quality of meals are excellent not to mention the skinny Texana margaritas are stellar. They are now offering a full ala-cart brunch menu on the weekend. I'll be back for that! Azteca is a great neighborhood restaurant but it's worth a road trip too when you want really good Mexican styled food. read more

The main reason I go to this place on occasion is because it's the Mexican restaurant which is closest to where I live. To this point I've had mixed experiences here, more good than bad, but feel it's not in even the same ballpark as Chile Verde Cafe. The service is kind of hit-and-miss. The chips and salsa are average. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts are generally good. One of the highlights of Azteca is their jumbo margaritas during happy hour. The restaurant does showcase itself as bright and warm, which I like. Overall, I'd call Azteca a slightly above-average Mexican restaurant which is generally satisfactory, but the overall dining experience here pales in comparison to Chile Verde Cafe. One side-note: While I've yet to try it, I've heard good things about Azteca's Sunday brunch buffet. read more

I've eaten here before and it was good but we went tonight and waited over an hour and a half for a first check, drinks and food. I do give the owner credit for taking the time to come to the car to offer a gift card and plenty of excuses. I can say that none of them were my concern and the fact is the service was terrible. From the host and owners son having a conversation about a party leaving because none came and just brushing it off, to a bar tender having shots with the bar folks. I was there with my family and probably wouldn't have minded if I didn't have to wait for 30 minutes for a frozen margarita. I want to call out the bus boy for doing a stellar job cleaning and sanitizing the tables. Fabulous job. Suggestion to Manny, quit making excuses and don't seat people if you don't have the staff to allow customers to have a good dining experience. We visited Columbus zoo and found this place close by. Great decor, a nice clean strip mall Mexican. The food was fantastic!! I ordered rice, beans, cheese enchilada and a Chile relleno. Everything was excellent, especially the Chile relleno. The only thing preventing a 5 here was the service. It seemed we had about 5 different waiters (perhaps the chef came out on occasion to serve us too). Despite 5 of them, drinks were unfilled and chip bowls were empty. It took about 10 minutes to get our initial drinks order. One time a women (who looked like she was a customer) popped out of nowhere and refilled our drinks. Don't get me wrong, they were all very nice. Anyway, once the waiting situation is sorted, this is a definite 5 star place!!! read more

A-OK is what Azteca Mexican Grill receives. My stop was to catch up with friends for a pre-Valentines Day night out. The stay added up to having chips & salsa in a basket at the 3-sided bar and adding two margaritas on rocks w/salt. It all added up to a nice evening. In the rear AMGrill has a smallish party area that doubles and a dance floor (at least last night it did w/DJ rockin' the house). While the decor is a bit institutional (strip mall'ish) the place gives off the green & red of Mexico. It was 8 o'clock at night and 90% of the seating had peeps. That's a good sign. Azteca Mexican Grill is a bit out of the way for my work and home so I'm not sure I'll get back there. But if you're south Powell or north Dublin it would be a stop to make. read more

Disappointed... we regularly go for the Sunday brunch and its large variety of Mexican & American dishes. We haven't been since the week before Christmas, so we checked the website for any announcements or specials- nothing. Brunch usually starts at 10am, we got there at 10:45- closed. A worker was cleaning and told us they have stopped the brunch temporarily due to the pandemic upsurge. We understood that completely, but why not put it on your web page or your Facebook account? Went there opening night, Sep 8, 2009 in the location where "The Office" was at Powell & Sawmill. It's brightly colored with imported hand-carved Mexican chairs and everyone was working to please, but it comes down to the food. The salsa had no heat to it but had a decent flavor, while the chips were pretty standard (nothing special). The taco & enchilada were bland and basic, the rice was decent as were the beans. The tamale disappointed--another over-doughy Ohio interpretation. I have yet to find a good tamale in Ohio, so people here don't know what they can be like. My wife did like her chile relleno, so that's going for them. Our take-away is that it's an adequate place that Ohians probably will like just fine. I'd put it slightly above Las Margaritas and well above Vacquero. If only they would fry fresh-made corn taco shells, make their own enchilada sauce, and use some spices, it would raise up in my rating. Disclaimer: native Texan who's eaten his way across Texas and New Mexico and can tell the differences in the regional styles down there. Very disappointing . Food is Microwaved after you order it. We ordered and the food was brought to our table in exactly 2 minutes. There's no way a restaurant Can make food that quickly. Literally two minutes. The chimichangas were soft it was obvious they were microwaved. The beans come from a can and taste very tinny ! The guacamole was totally Brown. I can't even believe they served it like that. Lettuce was wilted and brown. Terrible food. Very disappointed. And the worst part was we sat there for 35 minutes waiting for a check. It took us longer to get the check that It did for the food to be delivered. There is no way that food can be done fresh in two minutes. We didn't even put the menu down and the food was sitting at the table. That was very disheartening and it tasted exactly like it was prepped earlier. We will not be returning. I'm not quite sure why this place has 2.5 stars. I went last night with a group of 7 and though it was pretty good! Service was attentive, but not over the top. The fried plantains were delicious. The queso fundido was a table favorite, but I didn't try it as I avoid dairy when possible. Everyone main dishes looked really tasty! I ordered the chicken tortilla soup without tortillas and it was stellar. You get a giant bowl of a brothy chicken soup with roasted pulled chicken breast with fresh cilantro, avocado, tomato, and onion in it. I loved it. It was like a mexican pho! I would order it again and again. Seeing as I don't live anywhere near Powell and we stopped there before a Zoo trip, I would not drive to Powell just for the soup, but I highly recommend it AND I am going to try and replicate it! read more

Overall, I will say on a scale from 1-5 (5 being the best), I would give this place a 2. There are plenty of places to eat in Powell; I doubt we would ever go back to this one. Not because we had a terrible experience but because there was nothing memorable about this place. In fact, despite the fact that we heard negative things about this place the only reason why we gave it a try was because we had a coupon. The food was fine nothing that you would crave later; I barely wanted to eat my left-overs. The restaurant looked clean and was decorated like your typical Mexican restaurant. There was nothing special or cozy about this place. It was just a bunch of tables and a bar in the middle of the place. I would like to complain about the service. The service was Terrible. We had to beg for our bill while we watched our server talk on his cell phone. He pretty much talked on his phone for our entire meal. I couldn't believe it. Used to be a frequent customer here (about once every week to two weeks). We (2 of us) had a poor service experience last time we were here. Sat for over 10 minutes before greeted, poor return service, etc. This time around, there were 7 of us. Sat promptly, drinks out promptly. (The restaurant was well under half capacity). Once we ordered, our food came out at a normal ticket time...and when delivered, our food runner stated to one of our guests "your food was just put in." This statement didn't make sense. Then we discovered a HAIR in one of our entrees (the Azteca quesadilla). Once the server came back, we sent it back and about 10 minutes later, (20 minutes after original food delivery) the missing entree and new quesadilla arrived. Overall, very disappointed with the recent service and food quality. I've eaten here twice, once under their original namesake, Cynco de Mayo, and once under Azteca, and I have to say it was pretty bad both times. The chips come from a bag, are thick, cheap tasting, and not served hot. Salsa is the plainest I've ever tasted, no pop from anything in it. Service isn't very good and they have no waiting area, people are standing on top of each other if it's cold outside. Also many of the tables are too close together, I had to switch places with my daughter because the person sitting behind me, and myself, couldn't get out of our seats without ramming the other into their table. Food is pretty lo par. I go the fajitas combo....it came with exactly three small shrimp. The server forgot my drink, brought the wrong queso dip (which we paid for), and there was no sour cream with my sides and only three small tortillas. My daughters wouldn't eat their food, one had the chicken quesadilla and the other had mac and cheese with applesauce and ate the applesauce. Pretty bad when you can't make good mac n cheese. I can't remember what my wife got but she only ate half and wouldn't take the rest home. My sister in law enjoyed her enchilada. Chile Verde is a great alternative. read more

I've been served by Michael, Grant, and Jacob and they are efficient but fun and never let us leave unsatisfied! I've never had Sunday brunch but I've heard great things about it! Their brunch is legit. Sundays only, 10am on, 15bux. This is a no brainer. Let's be honest if you are coming to a buffet thinking you're going to get the best quality you're nuts but this is close for the price. First they have tons of fresh fruit, then chips, salsa, queso, and various meats. Taco shells setup with the above as a taco bar. Then made to order omelettes. Are they going to be brown cagefree organic eggs, no, come on. This is an omelette Stuffed and then add queso and pig out. Then there's the prepared misc. breakfast burritos, some slammmmming ribs(I hate ribs so they had to be good), breakfast Mexican pizza that is legit/if fresh, then misc other stuff, all Mexican. Whoever said you don't get enough "Mexican" choices here must have wanted a 45.00 casino buffet rolled into a 15.00 brunch buffet. And let's just say the queso is frigging good, like amazing. There's also more desserts than you'll know what to do with. So I ate some of each including two kinds of cheesecakes that were slammmmming. Manny is the owner and I chatted it up because he was making onnlettes Sunday and they were packed. Good guy, loves what he does, loves his customers, and just wants them to be happy. Is it cheap, no. But we got out of there with 3 kids under 5, 2 adults for about 50.00 with tip and were stuffed. We cant do that anywhere else. I have previously written two one star reviews for this restaurant: one when it was called Cinco de Mayo and one when it changed it's name to Azeteca Mexican Grill. I haven't eaten there since that last review in 2013. I recently learned that they have a Sunday brunch. Against my better judgement I decided it try it. Things can change for the better. So I arrived Sunday morning and was impressed with the beautiful layout of the buffet. The first thing visible is an impressive dessert table with a wide variety of cake, cheese cake, cookies and other yummy looking things as well as a large assortment of fresh fruit Well, this is off to a good start, I thought. There were quite a few metal containers containing hot food. I asked which ones contained dishes without meat. There were two. One contained rice and beans. The other contained juevos rancheros which is a dish that I typically love. The rest were loaded with all sorts of meat that really looked dried out and over cooked to me. I am a vegetarian, so my evaluation of the taste of meat carries little weight; however I know overcooked meat when I see it. There was also a table of not too interesting looking salads and a taco table with a limited amount of ingredients to make your own tacos. They also custom make omelets to order. The staff was very diligent in keeping the food looking good and the buffet tables neat. They seemed to have a sense of pride where that was concerned. They were also very friendly. Here's the thing: if I am going to pay $14.99 to have a Sunday brunch at a Mexican restaurant then I expect a nice array of Mexican foods in addition to more conventional breakfast dishes.. The Mexican offerings were scarce and sub par. I had a made to order veggie omelet which was over cooked and dry. I doctored it up with a white cheese sauce which was good and some hot sauce. The juevos ranchero was horrible in every respect. I think it is not a dish suited to being kept heated for an extended period of time. I made myself some nachos at the taco bar. They were OK, but obviously missing from the offered ingredients was guacamole. I had a small piece of waffle. I love crispy waffles. But this was soggy. I chose a slice of yummy looking crumb cake for dessert. I love crumb cake. But it turned out to be flavored with almond. I do not like almond flavoring so that turned out to be a disappointment as well, although I can not blame the restaurant for my personal taste in ingredients. I ended with a churro that was good. My bill was over $18.00 for the buffet and a coke. It was not nearly worth the money. I would have been disappointed paying $6.99 for the quality of the food. In addition the place had been remodeled to a boring modern look --- nothing Mexican about it. Previously it had been a delightful Mexican theme with colorful carved chairs. That too was a disappointment --- no good food, no good atmosphere. So, once a gain I will be boycotting the Azeteca grill. You'll have to come up with some amazing and creative ad campaign to draw me back again. read more
