I went to Reef Monsters 4460 E Main St. Suite 101 Mesa Az. 85205 to buy a few things I had put on my wishlist. 8 bags and a bag of sand later $301.27 One was a Blue tie-dyed starfish When I was watch James owner @Reef Monster. I had noticed then when James was taking the starfish out of their tank the starfish had something underneath him like something from their tank. Have placing all8 bags into my tank, I started video taping. This is when I saw it was physically attached to him. Plus two small cuts with his meat starting to come out. I took him out of the tank immediately. I was sending emails and text with pictures nothing went through. I called Reef Monster, James answered. He asked if I could send some pictures. My daughter sent them through Social Media. James text my daughter back, "He looked great when I bagged him up." (I, Lori do not doubt that at all.) James said that it could not be my water he just tested it. James text, "For that to happen that fast that is not a good sign. If I kept the starfish in the tank he would not make it" I had netted him as soon as I say his injuries in my tank.The starfish had not moved since I placed him in the tank. I brought him back as James said to do. His wife Ash came out from their office and wished me died. All livestock finally. I took a very injured starfish home from your tank. Accusing me for all the injuries to this poor little starfish that was in pain. Two of his legs all contorted My $45. Very injured Starfish is back with Reef Monster where the injuries took place. read more

This store has great stuff. The problem is that I drive 45 minutes to get here and then find they are closed on a day they are supposed to be open. This is the 3rd time this has happened. I am generally standing outside with at least one other customer going "WTH?" Today is Monday at 3pm.. Update: I originally gave this store 1 star for the reason I stated above. While it took a little over a year (literally) for management to respond to my post, they did send me a message apologizing and explaining that they were having an extended issue with their family. I actually was out that way about 2 months ago and stopped by, actually to see if they had closed down. They had not, and the store has been remodeled. It looks very nice. As I said above, they do have very high quality coral and fish at competitive prices. I don't think the issue I had a year ago is likely to repeat itself. I am hopeful that if there is a next time, they will change the answering machine message on their phone to indicate that the store will be closed that day and when they anticipate being open again. They explained they had been trying to alert customers through FB, but that isn't the way I generally try to determine if a store is open or not. Judging by the other customers waiting outside with me on those 3 occasions, I wasn't the only one. Currently, I do recommend the quality of their coral, fish, and knowledge. Not the most friendly staff out there. Know exactly what your looking for when you visit, they'll sell you anything. These guys would rather ignore you vs. return your call to work out a problem... I will not be back. Update: I've since given them a second chance and glad I did. They've been helpful, not rude. I still say know what you want and do your research before buying, this is true for any fish store. My lesson learned. Coral selection is great and prices are competitive. I'd recommend them, just understand their livestock policy and pick wisely. read more

Okay so why haven't I heard of this place before?!?! I have been driving 45 minutes to another Aquarium store but now found my new favorite. I bought first snowflake eel from here. Super happy with him. The girl here so knowledgeable and friendly. I been here twice already and will be coming back. The prices are also the best around from what I seen. We are in here at least once a week. Initially it was for RO water or salt water and the occasional reefstew. It has taken me a while to review because i wanted enough experience to base any type of opinion. I like the place. I've read reviews mentioning information that I know nothing of and quite frankly, I feel all of the staff that I have dealt with has been kind and helpful. We have a number of fish and all of them to this point are still alive and swimming (ha! Get it? Alive and kickin'?) I recently purchased a madarin goby from there and he's still going strong on month 2. We've had questions, they given helpful suggestions or ideas. The dogs that are sometimes there are cute huge boys. We've visited a couple of other places when out of the way but i just prefer reef monsters personally. read more

We have come here a handful of times and have never been disappointed in the selection, prices, and knowledge. They have a really nice selection of fish, corals, and etc. if you don't find what you are looking for they will seek it out for you. The staff is helpful and friendly and I love their Great Danes in the back. We drive 20 miles to come here and pass about four other fish stores, well worth it. read more

We would have loved to spend more time looking around and likely would have purchased some coral for our reef tank however the girl working there was extremely rude and short with us. While this store is small, it definitely leaves an impression! Very clean tanks, clean facility and well lit. Nice appearance on the outside of the building. Everything is well maintained, including everything in the tanks. Products that are stocked include frozen foods, micro dry foods, reef stew, most chemicals and I think live sand and rock. The stuff that is stocked are ALL quality products that are used in the store and the owner has experience using. That, to me, makes a good LFS. Gives you the feeling that this guy doesn't just stock stuff to make money. He has only the stuff a good hobbiest would want/need. None of the junk that the other stores stock and sell for $$$$. The owner and operator is a great guy, very helpful and always has suggestions or helpful ideas. He gives you the feeling that he would do anything to help, give you the shirt off of his back. Very knowledgable about the live stock and corals he sells. Another great thing (to me) is a lot of the fish are bred local and he is a huge advocate of fragging coral and getting that local, instead of just ordering and ocean harvesting. This store also has a very wide variety of specialty livestock. Not just the typical fire fire, clowns, and 6 line wrasse. Sure they have that stuff but they also have awesome corals, a wide variety of Inverts you don't see everywhere and some really cool designer fish! I am always surprised at the prices too! He is usually 10-20% lower in price than all the other guys. All in all, I like this local fish store and I look forward to shopping here for years to come! read more

I called this business 5 minutes before close of business the day before a holiday when i was 15 minutes away with 2 small kids and a sick husband at home unable to get the supplies needed for our aquarium begging them to stay open just a bit longer to get water for our aquarium. The absolutely lovely woman who answered the phone agreed to stay late to help us and went above and beyond for my family! I truly can't thank her enough for her kindness and help! Not many businesses would do this for a tiny sale of a jug of water but she was willing to and it meant the world to me! I can't say enough great things about my experience here! read more

This is my go-to coral store. It's sad that you would group this place in the LFS (local fish store) with all the bad rap LFS get. This place is different. Great staff with great advice and know how. They will help you get the best options for your set up. Even guide you into better options for your tank. All tanks are different, and they are awesome at helping you get something that will thrive in your tank. The prices are good as well. Better prices that also comes with even better knowledge and experience to make sure you're not wasting money on something that won't do good in your tank. I drive a good hour to get here but it's always worth it. It's more like going to your buddy house to pick out something from them for your tank. Thier tanks are the cleanliest in the valley everything always looks so healthy with great color! They have a great selection of fish and coral. TRUST ME GO HERE FIRST!!! read more

I have spent thousands of dollars with Reef Monsters and I'm completely appalled that James now ignores me when I come in. Today I was planning on buying corals and fish and one simple hello, I could net get from him. I tried to say hello and he avoided me. So the only and last purchase I did today was 10 gallons of RO and that's the last of my money I will spend with James. He acts like I owe him something when a simple hey "Joe" would go along way.
