Great food and great service... Came here for Barksdale Spirit Day just to support the school and ended up finding a really great breakfast spot. It now has a new name and I believe new owners, so not sure why Yelp is showing reviews for "The Egg and I" under the new name "Awake". My previous review was for when it was called "The Egg and I". The Eggs Benedict looked so good I was jealous that I didn't order it. The scrambled eggs were like the best ever. And, my spinach salad was absolutely delicious. To take it one step higher I'd recommend using grilled chicken breast over whatever you're using now. Andy was air server and she was great because she anticipated our ever need. Sooo good!!!! Great brunch spot!!!! All of the food was fantastic and service was great! We ordered coffee and it's great because they leave it at the table so you can just refill it yourself. I ordered the avocado toast and it was super tasty!!! You can pick how you want your eggs. My husband had the avocado and bacon scramble and that was fantastic!!!! The potatoes are really good!!! We were walk ins and we were able to get a place at the bar. It does get busy, so it might be worth making a reservation. I would definitely go back and try other things! Didn't impress me. Reminded me of the waffles I used to eat at my college cafeteria. I was able to try my bf's Cambridge skillet and it tasted good! I was impressed with that. Even though it looked small, it was able to fill up my boyfriend. When the waitress brought out his skillet, she forgot the avocado. We assumed they'd put it over the top anyways, but she just cut up about 3 small slices and put it on a side plate. I know places overcharge for avocado usually, but neither the presentation nor the amount of avocado here made the $1.29 worth at all. Our group of 3 went on a Sunday morning for brunch and the place was very crowded. We got seated in 20 minutes and felt very rushed by the waitress. She would come back to the table every minute (4 times) to ask us if we were ready to order even after we asked her for more time multiple times. The menu is a large collection of all common American breakfast/brunch items, nothing out of the ordinary or unique. The bacon avocado scramble was delicious, but there were very large chunks of uncooked onions that threw off the texture for me. The potatoes were a nice complement to the meal. We were sat at a dirty table, had a used coffee cup on it. Moved tables and that one was dirty as well. Silverware had food crust on it. Dirty napkins on the floor... There's no way those menus are sanitized as they are large paper menus that I assume are reused. Once we saw no one in the kitchen had a mask on we got up and left. However, there is no social distancing between tables and I personally witnessed at least four kitchen personnel not wearing a mask at all (including Kitchen Expo and possibly the Kitchen Manager) and at least one person in the kitchen with her mask around her chin, not covering her mouth or nose. This restaurant doesn't seem to be following any of the safety guidelines I've seen others follow. I also ordered their iced vanilla latte (rating: 5/10). The vanilla syrup was a little too sweet for my liking, but if you prefer sweeter coffees, then I recommend trying it! We arrived about noon on Saturday, so it was busy as expected. It only took a short time 10-15 minutes to get seated. When we were seated, our table hadn't been wiped down or reset. The items on the table were all low (no Splenda, jelly, etc.). The hostess began cleaning up the floor under our table and apologized for the mess. Our waitress came shortly after. She was friendly and helpful. They were out of non-dairy creamer, and she told us that she made sure to tell someone to reorder it. I loved the menu options, but I was baffled by the calorie counts. When I mentioned it aloud, a friend at my table said "Oh yeah, those are wrong. The waitress at the other location told me." I would think this would be a bigger concern, and was very surprised that the menu is so misleading. Some of the least healthy choices had very low calories counts, and that could really affect people on dietary restrictions. Coffee was great and I had almost three mugs of it. Kale Cooler is a must try - extremely refreshing. Overall, what I also loved was that the portions were not overwhelming and just right for a great breakfast. While you want a heavy breakfast but not a one that will make you fall asleep again. Ambiance: I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. While it is a nice and quiet place with a patio option, the interiors are amazing too.
