A 3 egg omelette. Smallest I have ever seen

Smallest 3 egg omelette we have ever seen and how can you make eggs taste bad? Horrible. But worse than the miniature omelette, the grits were even worse. No taste at all. They were disgusting. Very disappointing. They did cook my bacon to order but the bacon was like a salt stick. Unfortunate- we were so happy to see a new cafe in The Colony hopefully it was just an off day

The Colony Cafe is quite possibly one of a few truly standout dining establishments in Denton County, featuring a warm and inviting environment and staffed with genuinely kind employees. Deciding upon a dish may conceivably be difficult as The Colony Cafe's highly affordable menu, although not overwhelming with clutter or redundancy, contains many potentially tantalizing dishes. Because of this dilemma, I deferred to the expertise of our waitress. She: So, what will y'all be having? Me: Hmm, I'm torn between Eggs Benedict, Migas, and Reuben Omelet. She: Those are all great choices... Me: (becoming more puzzled) Alright, if you could have something right now, what would YOU order. She: Actually, I wouldn't order any of those. I would order The Colony Combo. Me: Really?!? She: YES! It's sooooo good!!! Me: Alright, I'm convinced! Colony Combo ($5.49): 5/5 http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=3gkDx24Vj0y3d-glIW_cwg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=1j015prjurv3dQ1rXYgLXw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=DRAMuWLot0_PnfJBORK0mg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=e-5x6vaUpCaMHTpJaRhcMA Frankly, I became skeptical after ordering. "What's so special about a couple eggs, a few slices of bacon, and a short stack of hot cakes?", I thought. What I can say is, The Colony Cafe flawlessly executed a simple breakfast. My compliments to the chef for preparing sunny-side up exactly as they were intended, frying bacon perfect to a bright crisp, and whipping up a batch of fluffy pancakes that, in my opinion, are the pinnacle and epitome of all pancakes...ever!!! Texas Chili Cheese Omelet ($7.29): 5/5 I nearly ordered this myself but became the immediate benefactor of Loren L's lack of stomach capacity. The Colony Cafe's hearty chili omelet is something of legends! Their perfectly balanced chili is not over the top spicy, nor too acidic or overcome with tomato flavor. Undoubtedly, one dish not to be glanced over. Coffee ($1.59): 4/5 Known for my strict critique of coffee, I was delightfully impressed by The Colony Cafe's ability to brew a solid cup of coffee that did not require sugar or milk. To attest to my approval, I actually requested my cup be refilled more than several times during the course of our breakfast. If you are a resident of Denton County, you mustn't delay a visit to The Colony Cafe. Their value minded offerings will more than satisfy and most assuredly, keep you coming back for more.

The first time I came here I had The Colony Skillet. I walked into the place for the first time at around 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday for my "breakfast". Keep in mind that this place closes at 2:30, so by then, there weren't that many people there anymore. The first thing I noticed about the couple tables that were there was that they seemed to be on very familiar terms with the staff. Good sign. Starving, didn't really know what to order. I had read that the coffee was good, so I knew I was going to try it. Coffee aside, I asked my server "I'm hungry, what's popular?" In my less manner-observing thoughts this roughly translated to "Feed me the best food you've got" I think she read my mind. "The Colony Skillet." she said. Now normally in small establishments such as this one, I'm always skeptical of food that's named after a city. After she explained everything that's in it (during which I didn't really take in half the things she said), I agreed to it. First came the coffee. The coffee was very decent. It wasn't an exotic brew filled with rich and aromatic flavors from the depth of Colombia, nor did it have the [insert all coffee descriptions] of [insert all foreign coffee producing places]. It was simply a good, solid, morning (afternoon, in my case) cup of joe. AND courtesy of my server, I never saw the bottom of my coffee mug. Keep them refills coming. Needless to say I was very well (read: excessively) caffeinated for the remaining afternoon. Then came the food. Delicious. Sausage, eggs, cheese, hash brown on English muffin, all topped off with a generous serving of gravy. I personally didn't think the combination of everything was too much. It was just enough flavor to hit the spot, and not so much that it goes over the top. The sweet spot. I just had dinner, writing this makes me want it again. I devoured it. First post, lengthy post. Thanks for reading, happy to share!

A local surprise. We were on our way to a 3 star lunch, spotted this place and decided to try it. Solid 4 star food & 5 star service. Lots of regulars were served while we ate. The food is good, service outstanding & very friendly. Give the cinnamon rolls with nuts a try... Yum!

Hopefully they were having an off day?

First our waiter kept getting distracted by waitresses and took forever to come back to us even just for simple drink orders. Forget about ordering food. Since we were in happy hour we ordered a ton of apps, so disappointing. The food was nowhere near the caliber ridiculous cost. The crab tasted old and like drinking ocean water, the ribs were dry and the shrimp app came with 9 small/ med shrimp for $20. My martini was okay the first round and then the bartender kept adding soda water for the next two. $20 smoked martini was smoked for literally 5 seconds. Then we get our check, which is completely wrong and over charged so if you don't heed the warning, check your ticket. And then to top of the extremely slow service and mediocre overpriced food, the night ended at 7:10 when the evening hostess came over and loudly announced we were only able to be seated because we promised to leave by 7. One of the most unprofessional and inaccurate interactions I've had. Don't bother. Don't go. Unless of course you enjoy disappointment at a deep cost.

Our server was fantastic, she was attentive, quick and gave us suggestions. We absolutely love it when the staff gives recommendations at ANY restaurant! Our server recommended joining their app club thing so we also got a free app outta that! The restaurant is huge too, it has plenty of seating which we walked right in and were seated right away. Noise level is very low too, I liked that very much. I'm very surprised reading and seeing the photos of the folks that are giving this place bad reviews. It seems to be every one has one thing in common, from what I'm picking up. They are all using take out service. I just don't think you can judge any place for food if you aren't eating it there. It's like ordering McDonalds and taking it home 15 minutes away and then blaming them for the food to be cold. Food changes after it's prepared. I'm not saying they aren't pointing out the obvious cooking flaws but geez... One was the Fried Cauliflower and the other was the Tuscan Chicken. She was disappointed to learn they were only serving the Brunch menu and those items we not available until after 3PM. We ended up just having a couple drinks and the Cheese Curds before we left. The Curds were very good, we enjoyed them and the drinks. We thought the restaurant looked very nice, clean and had a fun vibe. I even mentioned that I thought the music was perfect as it wasn't too loud and there was not a song that was obnoxious, just a nice background sound. Service was excellent we had no wait and the server was very prompt. We decided to try another day to try the full menu. I am sure there is some reason that restaurants do brunch only menus. I assume it's because they are higher profit dishes and they can limit the offerings to those types of meals. It just sucks that both Saturday and Sundays they only offer the brunch service until 3PM! I could understand maybe noon but 3 is kinda late in my opinion. Second visit was on a Sunday at 3PM so we could get the items she was interested in trying before. We ordered the Cauliflower and it was amazing. I had a hard time wrapping my mind around that it was just cauliflower! Really good item! We then ordered a couple drinks and then decided on a couple meals that were not on minds when we got there but we were open to suggestions. She ordered a BBQ Burger and I ordered the Fried Chicken Mac and Cheese. I would say both were excellent! Food here is on point. Service was a little off, just our server, not the rest of the staff, I don't know what was going on but I think she may have had another section I couldn't see because I believe we were the only table she had in that part of the restaurant and she wasn't very attentive. I never could see her anywhere in the dining area so I am pretty sure it was something like that going on. She forgot our drinks and kinda our food too. My wife had to remind her that we ordered drinks, which she admitted she forgot. Since my wife was facing the kitchen she could see the food on the counter for the servers to grab, and she could see our appetizer sitting there as well. After about 5 minutes of it sitting another server brought it to our table, it was still very hot and still was very good. Same happened with the meal too, it sat then another server brought it to the table. I would have had a few more beers if we would have had more prompt service, but honestly it wasn't a bad experience. Another noted difference was the music, at first it was the same as before but after about 15 minutes of us being there they began to turn up the music volume and that of course increased the noise level overall as people had to speak louder to overcome the music. It also was not obnoxious just something we both made a comment about. Overall, good place to check out.
