very poor customer service, lack of concern for customers and very poor organization. after waiting in line to get to the counter which was slow then there was a 25 minute wait while they tried to find the car they wanted me to rent. two employees tried to help but just gave up. they finally just gave me a different car with no explanation. second time I tried renting from this avis I had joined preferred but no car waiting for me and was told by rep at counter I should have cancelled my reservation and rebooked at current rate to get preferred service. they clearly don't value their customers. read more

Horrible location to rent from. Received a call from the office stating that they had no cars for me to rent even though I had reservations. The lady on the phone stated I made the reservation the night before and that they had no cars and to go somewhere else. She was rude and unprofessional. I called Corporate office who then sent me to Avis in Murrieta Karen at Avis in Murrieta is a superstar and I will only go that location in the future. read more

Do Not rent from this location! I am a business traveler and I rent cars about 300 days out of the year from Avis. This location deserves a ZERO! I have never had an issue with Avis in my 20+ years of renting. My first issue was that I received a charge on my bill for SiriusXM for 4 days. My rental contract was for 30 days, strange but no big deal. Second experience involved a dirty car both inside and out. Due to lack of inventory this was all they had. So I take the car. After 30 day I return the car. Two weeks later I get a bill in the mail for a cleaning fee of $109. I return back to this location to discuss the charge and pick up another rental. The idiots behind the desk couldn't help but the assured me that the manager would call. The car they gave for my next trip had mechanical problems and was also dirty. I decided to take the car back and request another. One week passes and no call from the manager. Save yourself time and money and rent from Enterprise! I am! read more

We booked a car through Priceline and prepaid everything. After we return the car, we get a $134 charge.....evidently, despite repeatedly saying that we wanted no extra insurance (including on the original Priceline order), it was on our agreement and we initialed without reviewing closely. That was frustrating, but after speaking with Clyde at Avis, the charge was reversed without much hassle. He provided really excellent customer service and we were super happy with the end result. read more

I am VERY surprised by these two reviews! I went in on a VERY busy Saturday and the man that helped me was fantastic! Always telling me how far along he was with the line and never letting anyone in the waiting room feel like they were being ignored. I even got an upgrade on my rental for having to wait! I am going to be coming back to this Avis when I visit again in October. Thanks for a wonderful experience! read more

Zero stars if possible. Had been loyal to this location on Jefferson for 7 years, however, the last 2 visits have been horrendous. Their cars have NOT been mechanically maintained and once you drive off with your vehicle only to find out you have a severe mechanical issue, the office staff will reply that you just have to waste your time/day calling Roadside Assistance and they "don't have any other available cars". It is basically your problem and it is their way to have the customer take on the responsibility for the rental car maintenance. We will not use AVIS again unfortunately. The rudeness of the staff at this location is second to none. As other reviewers have stated - GO ELSEWHERE. Car renters beware and I recommend you do not use this location unless they should have a complete overhaul mandated by their Corporate office. read more

For our car rental, we had booked a vehicle ahead of arriving in San Diego. When we got to the agency, we showed the agent our rental contract. He proceeded to tell us that we had to purchase the insurance offered, as they did not accept third party coverage in California. That increase the cost of the rental significantly. Not trusting this fellow,I left, and I made a long distance call to Avis's head office. They told me a completely different story, and said any insurance is optional. I returned back to the agent, and told him he was misinforming his customers, and that I am renting a vehicle without insurance, as I have that coverage on my credit card. So, be careful, these people are paid extra to upsell. read more

I was completely underwhelmed by the service from Avis as well as the car we received. We had reserved a full-sized convertible hoping to cash in on the Southern California sun and were informed upon arrival that they had no remaining other than one Pontiac Solstice. For those of you that are unaware, the Solstice has literally no available room for luggage. We reluctantly accepted to discover that they hadn't even cleaned the car before handing us the keys. The interior and exterior were filthy. It would have been nice had they decided to give us a break on our rate, or at least an apology for our inconvenience. read more

We sold our car on a whim and were left without a car until we decided what I wanted to buy. I ended up renting week by week and always reserved my booking through Costco. We usually dealt with Corey, who was kind and helpful. He offered us an upgrade and let us keep the same vehicle week after week (which was great because we have a baby with lots of gear.) I had also worked with a lady at the counter who wasn't nearly as friendly but nonetheless the process was smooth an quick. I liked that you can return early without penalty. I had two different cars, both were clean, no issues at all. read more

So many choices at the San Diego airport and we will pick anyone but Avis next time. First the agent could not figure out the computer and we waited with little kids for way too long. We ordered and paid for two car seats and had to wait when only one was delivered. This took along time and again with little kids after a long flight. We asked if the van we rented had GPS and were told no. Well, they do not know their product because it did have GPS but we found out after we bought a new handheld GPS. When I checked back in the rental I explained this to the employee who basically had no response and handed me our receipt. Never again! read more

Came out here from Pennsylvania for my sisters graduation and dads retirement. Prepaid and booked a car two weeks in advance. When I showed up they wouldn't let me rent it because I didn't have a "credit card" because it said debit above the visa logo even though it was the same card I used to prepay. Gave them my business credit card which doesn't say debit above the visa logo and they still didn't accept it. I asked about using cash and was told no. I asked about a refund and was told they couldn't do it and I'd have to call an 800 number. Asked multiple ways and multiple times if there were other options or other ways to make it work and was repeatedly told no. Eventually they told me I could switch the reservation to someone else's name if they have a credit card. I have never had such a hard time trying to give someone my money. Furthermore the employees have an obvious lack of ability to problem solve when situations arise. There is no reason they should be getting paid if I'm having to come up with solutions for them. That is what they get paid for. read more

Don't rent from here! 1 star for service here. We lined up a rental here via the USAA website and when our card was declined (via the credit union's fraud alert), Avis refused to run our cards again today (after clearing it with our credit union) leaving us to scramble for wheels! The clerk didn't want to look bad to her boss... read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Stay away!!! Woman behind counter was a rude #*@#!!! She closed out our rental THEN told us we were charged a full second day rate cuz we were more than 30 min late (all other rental companies we've used charge u per hour if late not full day) we said that we'd keep the car and use it for the time we paid for and she wouldn't give us the keys back she stated she had to open another contract and we would be charged more!!!! She stated she couldn't read the other places paperwork and I told her that's not our fault, she stated "it's not my fault either". So much for customer service!!!! read more

Used them recently and received the dirtiest car I've ever had in 35+ years and a couple of hundred auto rentals. I had to rewash the windshield for adequate visibility, the car body was dirty, interior was filthy. Normally I would've refused the car but the agent was hard to track down at this location and I was in a hurry. They really need to try - a lot - harder! Additionally, I was charged $13.99 "Fuel Service" on the drop off end in San Diego in spite of my having topped off the tank nearby. I didn't catch this until I reviewed the receipt later, as I have never had a problem with an Avis return in my years of renting cars, mostly from Avis. Well, I'm done with them and suggest you use alternative rental agencies as well. read more

I recently rented from Avis at the San Diego airport. Be careful to read all the fine print. I was charged an additional $30 on a $79 car rental. This was for CFC - which is an airport fee. Seems quite high and they charge for each additional 24 hour period whether it was 5 minutes or 5 hours. Called customer service for clarification - which was of no help. read more

If you have important plans do not book with them.I booked the night before and called 15mins before my reservation time to let them know I was running late and they confirmed that was ok. Well I get there and they say they don't have any cars available and can call me later. Wtf did I reserve and waste my time coming down there for!!!! Thanks for ruining my trip. read more

This place is unbelievable. They allowed me to choose a pick up time of 12 noon. I get there exactly at noon, and the doors are locked and not a person in sight. They apparently close at noon, but yet they allow someone to pick up a rental at the same time. I was not late even by one minute, and everyone was already gone? Doesn't seem to make any sense to me. I've heard bad things about this place already and I thought what the heck I'll give it a try. Nope horrible decision. My road trip is now delayed because of them and their horrible scheduling. I would never recommend this place to anyone at all. Not to mention I called and their customer service was disturbing. The lady was very very rude, still told me they were going to charge me for a no show/ no pick up on the vehicle, even though I was there at the time I was scheduled!! This place deserves to be shut down if they can't properly operate it. I wish I would not even give this place one star cause they don't even deserve it!! read more

As a former Avis employee, I speak from knowledge when I say that this place is by far the worst location I've ever rented from. I did find out that it's a franchise site versus corporate run, so that contributes to the problems. The office was filthy--trash on the floors and dust and cobwebs on the stools behind the counters. I had two cars over a three week period--and both were delivered filthy on the outside. The first was a Mazda that had some sort of an issue under the hood, a belt I believe, as it "whirred" constantly. It was also one pothole away from something on the right side falling off--it rattled horribly. The second was a fairly new Hyundai Elantra that ran much better. I also discovered that the corporate rate was incorrect when I went for the exchange and asked them to change it. They informed that they couldn't because they didn't know the code. I asked if there was a directory or a way they could access it on the internet. Nope... no directory or internet... NO INTERNET! I had to call the 800 numberwhile sitting in the lobby to get it. The place seems to always be understaffed and people waiting in line. I'll just pay the difference and rent elsewhere next time. read more

I reserved a car through Costco Travel. After searching It was the best price for what we were looking for. I printed out the itinerary that "serves as your confirmation", as was clearly printed on it. We arrived at the Avis via the shuttle on Wednesday, March 6, 2016. I got the usual up sell (as expected) but with lies and poor service to boot; car upgrade because what you have reserved is a Volkswagen Beetle (lie), insurance, navigation system, blah, blah. Declined all. Then she asked if I had my Costco membership card. "No, you need to be a member to make the reservation via Costco Travel, and I have the printed confirmation." She replies sternly, "We can't honor that price without the membership card." "Let me speak to your manager", I say. Several minutes later she returns, "the manager will be out in a few minutes", she says. Too bad, we are going next door to the Hertz, which doesn't have a line, and where I have a AAA discount reservation, and without the lies and poor attitude. Yes, I paid $25 more at Hertz for five days, got the usual up sell, but the people were more pleasant, and they didn't lie - and they didn't ask for the AAA card (which I had, because the printed itinerary said to). I will never rent from Avis again, ever. I understand different locations may be different, but when you have a choice, one bad experience is enough. And I did find one other review online that said Avis had given them the lie about the Volkswagen Beetle, when what they really had was a four door, five person vehicle. Lies, damb lies, and Avis. read more

I rented a car at Avis at San Diego Airport, I had selected the prepaid gas option, which the agent explained to me, if I chose not to fill the gas tank up that I would only be charged 3.97 gallon for the gas that I used. She also indicated if I returned the car back with a full tank of gas I would not be charged. I returned the car with a full tank and I was also charged 72.00 for gas. I have attempted to contact the office regarding this situation and they will not answer the phone, it just roll over to a customer service. When talking to the customer service rep she indicated that when you select the prepaid option you will be automatically charged for gas and that I should have returned the car empty. If that was the case why did the agent tell me if it's returned full to come inside and they would remove the gas charge. This is the second time I have rented a car from this location and each time I have had a problem with gas charge. I will not rent from them again or recommend anyone using them. read more
