Holy crap, what's with the Avis hate? We tend towards renting with Avis, even if they end up being $20-50 more than other companies. They were the only car hire company who never gave my husband grief when he first came to the US, he was under 25 and most car hire places charged him premium prices or made him jump through hoops. They won his loyalty. And they've kept it. They were lovely here, efficient, quick, and helpful - I don't pick up cars very often, that's usually my hubbys job. But they made it easy as pie! read more

Great service, Daisy was very helpful and super friendly. Car was clean and ready to go.

Check out was great but when I took the car I noticed it didn't have a full tank of gas, slightly less below the Full line. I returned it with exactly same amount as I received it like any other rental place would expect you to do. My wife had to return the keys on Monday because they were closed Sunday. The lady there told my wife she needs to fill up the car or she will charge her. Forced my wife to get the baby seat out of her car and into the rental car so she can drive to arco next door to put in an extra gallon of gas... An extra gallon I shouldn't be paying for. Take a picture of your fuel gauge before and after and don't let these people rip you off! read more

Now that SAN has integrated most if not all car rental companies around it to the care rental center on Sassafras Street, that removes just about all the hate I had regarding the tiny, hard-to-reach lots, long lines and incredible overhead noise to crown all the chaos. That said, Avis has lost the edge it had over its rivals, but the customer experience there is consistently good and I've never had any issues returning rentals with nit-picking over scratches and luggage bumper scrapes. The wise renter always takes pics. Trust me, it's saved me at least once and not doing it has screwed me over at least once. They tend to be a little more expensive like other reviewers noticed as well, but I believe you also get a better selection from the big guys, a better chance to upgrade and a less of a chance you'll get hit with one-way relocation charges. I'll have more detailed input (to be honest, I rent a lot from many vendors so they're starting to blur a little as far as car models I've driven) once I begin working in SoCal on a more regular basis but for now, keep rocking, Avis. read more

Terrible customer service, only one person at counter and she doesn't know how to read the endorsements on the back of a driver's license which states - "License valid until 30 days after discharge from armed forces." This place is a scam. Worst car rental experience ever. You don't get your car for 24 hours. The were several other people there complaining about the same thing. I would take off the one star if I could. read more

Went to rent a car from your Temecula, CA location and received a confirmation when I booked on your site. When we took an Uber to your location it cost us $20. No big deal, we will have a car, right? Wrong. There were no cars for rent at all that day and your employee informed me that there were 30 rentals and about 15 cars. I asked WHY DID IT ALLOW US TO BOOK?! She said corporate was he reason. This is unacceptable and so is my $100 Uber ride to a location 1.5 hours away. The other rental places she suggested were closed. How do you guys get away with this? You're costing people so much more money than they have to spend when things like this happen, but you do not care. Enjoy all my one star reviews. read more

I can't believe this place even has two stars. I just drove my mom down to pick up a car she reserved to pick up afternoon specifically, we arrived at 12:15 and they are closed. Not only that another couple sitting in the car next to us told us they were here before noon and it was locked AND another guy got here the same time as us and said he had just talked to the lady on the phone and told her he was on his way and she would be waiting for him and... Not here! Unreal experience. read more

Thank you for letting me know not to smoke in my rental car because when I got in it smelled like day old bar covered by some really horrid cologne. The cup holders had sticky dried on spilled drink and the utter lack of floor mats meant that the carpet was permanently stained. Gross... at least your pricing wasn't completely unreasonable. Since my car is being repaired this was a 2 week rental - I've learned to drive with my windows down. read more

I didn't get far enough to rent the car... This is how the conversation went down with Daisy. Me " I saw on Avis.com that you can pay the full price now and get a great discount of 30%, If we return the car early does this mean we will be reimbursed the difference?" Daisy "oh... umm... I wouldn't pay in advance" Me- "Can you elaborate?" Daisy "umm, well.....I just wouldn't" Me-"do you looses money since you are a franchise subsidiary if I don't pay you direct? Daisy "you wont get your money back" This is when things got very awkward. A wet sponge had more to say then this person. Finally I told her I would talk to my wife to see what we were going to do now that we might not get reimbursed if we purchased direct.... My wife ended up calling back and I warned her about the issue. She started to mention it to Daisy and she says some rude remark to my wife and then hangs up the phone and then sceens our calls from their on.. WoW, what a shitty company to let someone like that work there. I will be reporting this place to the main AVIS company. They have no right to treat people like crap. We were totally nice too... PS we ended up renting a car from enterprise with no hassles at all! read more

Ok, let first say that this is my third time renting from this Avis. And before this rental, I very easily could have given them four out of five stars. I would never give them five out of five because the customer service has always been questionable. But, the vehicles have always been so nice. Clean, well maintained, and newer models with all the bells and whistles. This rental has me thinking I should look into other agencies. The Agent was predictably flippant when we arrived. After giving her my license and credit card, she demanded another card to a two hundred dollar hold on. Now, I do not remember ever having to put a two hundred dollar deposit for damages down before. And I do not understand why it could not be placed on credit card I made the reservation with?!? But, I complied. The agent then went and got the car, I met her outside she did not do a walk around of the car and told me she was busy. Now my fault for not demanding one, because when I got back to Menifee to pack the car up I discovered that it was FILTHY inside. The car had lighter interior, the back seats were stained and garbage had been left in the floor boards. The bottom of the cup holder was dirty. The passage side of the center console had something sticky dripping down it. As I traveled down the highway I realized that this model was very base. No bells, no whistles. I could not even charge my phone. As I drove it over the weekend I was frustrated because the tire pressure indicator kept lighting up if the temperature outside the car dipped under 83 degrees. When we dropped off the car the agent was especially rude, and dismissive. I tried to tell her about the condition of the car, and how I had to clean it before I could even drive it. I also tried to warn her about the tire pressure indicator. The whole time I was talking to her she was standing behind the counter with her hands down her pants adjusting her belly flap! Because her hands were down her pants she did not make notes about my complaints...sooo Until this rental I have been blinded by the flashy cars. Having one rent-a-wreak quality car has opened by eyes and reminded me that to me customer service means a lot. Avis might have low prices, but its not worth it to me if I have to deal with rude slobs to rent a decent car two out of three times. read more

Worse customer service I have seen. My daughter reserved a car woman took her CC and swiped it, said she did something wrong and swiped it again. Second swipe declined it, but two charges went through. Credit card company even reversed the charges right on the spot she refused to correct the transaction We had to call Uber to get home. While we were there other people came in and she said they would have to go to San Diego or Ontario Air Port. One man just walk out. She was in over her head read more

I wish that this 1 star would be a 0, across all locations. I had a reservation made with Avis 2 1/2 months in ADVANCE of when I needed it. With FOUR days prior to the date of when I needed it, they EMAILED me saying my reservation has been cancelled. I immediately called and they basically said that there's nothing they could do as all of their vehicles of that size aren't available. They gave me zero options. You would think that they would search sister companies, other locations, etc., nope. They left me hung out to dry without a vehicle. I see by all the other reviews that I'm definitely not the only one that can't stand these guys, nor do they seem to care or believe in good customer service. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at this Avis, and had to deals with a patronizing and aggressively deceitful salesman. This was my first time renting a car myself, and I did a bunch of research into which company to rent from while I was in San Diego. When I finally got to the car rental location at 1 am (after a delayed flight), I was beyond exhausted and I think the salesman saw me-- a young female-- as an opportunity to extra aggressively up sell a bunch of crap I did not need. He very aggressively tried to push upgrades on me, and either didn't mention the cost (or even that it cost extra) and when I asked the price he would give me a hard sell before finally telling me how much it would cost. He aggressively tried to sell me extra insurance, and even told me my insurance wouldn't cover any accidents, which isn't true. He aggressively tried to sell me everything from GPS (seriously, who uses a GPS when you have google maps?) to xm radio to a fancier car, even when I made it clear I didn't want or need these upgrades. The salesman was condescending and sexist, obviously trying to take advantage of what he believed to be a naive and gullible young woman. He was so aggressive and out of line, that other customers made comments to my boyfriend about how ridiculous the salesman was being with me. Avis also charged me significantly more than the original quote when I reserved online, even though I didn't opt into the costly upgrades. Because there are so many car rental options at the San Diego airport, I would recommend taking your business to a different company. read more

In March 2015 I had an absolutely horrible experience with Avis. I was over-charged and the staff when I returned my car were not helpful at all. I vowed to never use Avis again. About a month later there was a refund of the amount I was overcharged. A few months later I decided to give them another chance. Now I wouldn't dream of using another rental car company (at least in San Diego!), even if another company is a little cheaper. Being a "preferred" member check in is extremely easy and efficient. I've had to switch cars a couple of times but the exchange was effortless. One time I did receive a bill for damage to the front of the car for about $375 but I had asked an attendant to make note of the damage on my rental agreement AND I had taken a picture of the damage on my iPhone before I drove off the lot. (Thank you Apple for date, time and location stamps on photos! I always do a quick look before I take the car and take photos of the smallest of scratches.) I rent from Avis at the San Diego Airport location every other week. The staff has been very good. Sarah, the person who checks ID and contracts at the exit, has become like a friend to me. My fiancee is a preferred member and the car they chose for us was a dump. Stains on the backseat and front passengers seat and the whole back was scratched up. I refused to accept that this was the best car they could have possibly given us and when we complained, they directed us, quite abruptly and angrily, to the "exchange" row. We found a gorgeous Hyundai Tuscon which was lovely. Not really impressed with the quality or customer service, especially for preferred members. read more

I do not recommend this location for anyone to rent a car from. The lady at the front desk was rude and disrespectful. I am active duty military and my drivers license states it's valid as long as I remain active. She told me that even with my military ID I was lucky she was going to rent to me at all. When I finally got the vehicle it was visibly dirty with bug guts all over the hood. I won't return to this location. I rented an Avis car at San Diego Airport. As I reached my hotel the car developed a flat tire. I called their repair who asked me to open the trunk -- but it refused to open. They were very unhelpful and kept me on the phone for nearly an hour. I had to get somewhere so I rented a car from Hertz (for 1/3 the amount) and left the key in the car. It took about 20 phone calls to get them to refund my money and even then they refused to charge me for less than a full day. It turns out they had an Avis location two blocks from my hotel but I didn't know that. The two previous times I rented from Avis something similar happened. Please learn from my mistakes. read more

Not the best choice for rental cars in Temecula. They are usually disorganized, seem to be understaffed. Don't expect for them to say hi when you walk in, you usually have to find them, or wait until somebody come out from the back. I reserved a car for the 3rd of July. It was a Sunday. I arrived at the business at 1100 and there was a line out the door(approx 7-8 people). There were 2 people working there, one behind the counter and one checking out the cars. I asked if they were bringing anyone else in and was told "no". They close at 12 on Sunday and it was taking between 10-15 minutes per customer. Knowing the 4th of July would be a busy day for rental cars, there should have been a minimum of 2 people checking out car. Very bad customer service. I returned today July 7 to turn my car in. I drove all the way from Vegas. I was suppose to turn in at 12, but wasn't able to get there until 2. They charged me an extra day. When I brought the keys into the business, a short, heavyset, unpleasant girls was. Erin's the counter talking to a customer. I didn't want to bother her so I asked if I could drop the keys off. She said she needed to paperwork, so I retrieved it from the glove compartment. I brought it in and placed it on the counter and asked if she needed anything to else. She gave me a dumbfounded look and said, "I guess not". At that point I didn't trust her, so I waited until she finished with the customer. She asked me why I didn't want to keep the car an extra day since I already paid for it. I told her I didn't want to have to drive back here tomorrow, and asked if she was really going to charge me an additional 35 dollars for being 2 hours late. She said she has no choice. I will definitely go somewhere else next time. Would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Avis at the San Diego Airport sucks!!! They tried to upgrade our car 4 times just to charge us more. Then they tried to sell us insurances that we did not need and declined. Even though we asked them specifically not to add any insurances or upgrades to our online order the Avis representative added 4 insurances that we did not want. The contact they had us sign was very confusing and the added insurances were hidden inside the list of items that we did order. The representative was rushing us as the line was very long. Before signing the contact we asked the representative several times and he reassured us that there are not additional charges, upgrades or add-ons. When returning the car they charged us 500$ for insurances that the representative added against our will and then lied to us that no insurances were added. In addition before our rental, they did not check the car for bumps and dents and they did not notify us of the protocols and that we need to check this. Luckily we did and we returned to the office to find out what to do. Only then they notified us that we need to fill out some forms and then go to someone to sign them. If we wouldnt have done this ourselves they would have charged us for all of the dents and marks. When reporting the charges to customer service they acknowledged that they made a mistake and agreed to return a small part of the charges. I wish I could rate them with less than one star. Do not rent cars there!!!!!!! You will end up with a bill double the amount that you expected as they deceive the customers, lie to them and force them to sign confusing, small print contracts. There was no way for us to understand from the contract that we are agreeing to another 500$ charges. Be Ware!!! read more

If you could give this place half a star or no star at all, I would do that. This location desperately needs to have more than 1 person working the front desk, especially from Fri-Mon. Went to pick up the car on Sunday morning - line to the door and 1 person working the desk helping the customer, running to the back and getting the car and bringing it around all by themselves. Went to return the car early Monday morning (8:05AM right after they opened at 8:00AM), line to the door again and one person working the desk. LONG WAIT - over 1/2 hour - 40 mins. We asked why they didn't offer a drop box for returning the car and the rep said "well, we had too many people not filling up the car and returning it a mess". But that's why you have a big sign on the wall stating that if you don't fill the car up before returning it it'll cost $9+ per gallon, so charge the customer that amount if they drop it off not full. Also, if it's returned super filthy, there is a sign on the counter stating they'll charge a cleaning fee up to $250 for an excessively dirty car. You have their credit card information - poor excuse. If you're going to make people wait that long in line, you should have a number machine where customers can pull a number and have a seat instead of standing there waiting that long. Everyone was complaining. The only answer the rep could give was "the owner makes those decisions, not AVIS", so it'll never change if all suggestions for changing their process gets decided by the owner. I go to this AVIS because our company gets us a discount. That's the only reason why I've gone there. Otherwise - go to Enterprise or Hertz. read more

My husband and I took a trip to Las Vegas and our current vehicle is an elderly gas guzzler so we decided to rent an efficient vehicle. We checked out all the local car rental companies. Avis was the least expensive BY FAR. We ended up with a smaller SUV by Chevy, a Captiva. What a great little car and it was practically brand new. Believe it or not, the gas savings using the rental almost paid for the rental cost aside from the fun of driving a brand new car. My experience with the Avis personnel was at least 5 star at the pick up and the drop off. They were so very nice and helpful and the location is super convenient. In addition they were the only company that I could find that had Sunday hours, which meant we were able to leave Las Vegas on Saturday without worrying about a tight return schedule (most agencies were only open until 6 PM on Saturday and no Sunday hours which means an automatic extra day.). We will definitely be using this Avis again. read more

Avoid this place. The desk worker told me all about how I was responsible for every scratch that occurs to the car and any damage to the interior and that I needed to take the damage waiver before getting the car. I refused, instead using my own insurance. I was told the car needed to be back 2 hours before I had booked it for and that I would be charged an additional day if it was a minute late. I then went upstairs to get the car and found that the car was nowhere to be found and had to wait 25 min for them to get the car. I get penalized for being a minute late but they can be as late as they want? The car finally arrives and I find that there are scratches and scuffs all over the car and the inside has stains covering every seat along with leather on the armrests torn. I questioned the attendant but he didn't speak English. I later looked at my booking paperwork and found that I had been charged $39.99 extra for XM radio which I told the desk worker I did not want. I tried to go through customer service but they refused to change Lesson learned, I will never use Avis again. read more

We rent cars very often as I hate putting mileage on my car, even if it's just to Los Angeles for the weekend. This was the exact case. I picked Avis as they had the lowest rate at the time. this was my very first time using Avis......this will also be my last time. A man who resemble Chris Farley was behind the desk, immediately I received a weird vibe. During the whole process, he was completely rude. I noted several times that I would not like to add anything to my rental. He was badgering me to upgrade, I declined and he started to ask me about adding satellite radio, he declined again and he responded with, "wow, you don'd even want to know the price? I guess so". Uh... okay? He proceeded to add the charge for pre paid gas, I told him that there was no need, I rent cars often. It is always easier for me to just return the car with a full tank. He became irritated, took the charge off and muttered under his breath. He continued several times to pressure me into upgrading the car. I told him, there is absolutely no need. He asked me how many people were going to be in my car.... why is that your business? I told him 4, two adults and two children. He told me that he would never recommend that, I asked him how many people does the car seat? He told me 5, again only to add on that even though it states 5, it's not realistic. He went as far as to tell me it is a two door and my two young kids would not fit in a Yaris. I firmly declined again, noted that this is not a long drive. He seemed angry as he threw the pamphlet on the table and then threw our driver licenses on top of it and flatly directed us to the cars. WTF WAS THAT. This grown ass adult just threw a fit because I declined to upgrade? Wow. Their car lot is full, didn't surprise me a bit. With that attitude and terrible customer service, I didnt expect them to get much business. We found our car and guess what? It was a 4 door. Even with a cheaper rate, I would NEVER come back, that totally ruined the start to birthday weekend. I still can't get over such terrible customer service, I felt like it was a prank. How could a representative be so damn rude? I've rented with Alamo and Enterprise as well. Both I recommend, but Alamo is the absolute best. I've always been taken care of, not pressured to add anything useless to me. DO NOT COME TO AVIS!!! THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE DIRT, CHRIS FARLEY IS THE WORSEEEE. read more
