The absolute worst experience I've had renting a car. We booked a 7 person vehicle 2 weeks in advance. They called an hour before we were suppose to pick it up and told us they didn't have any vehicles for us. They explained we would have to use a different location but that it would be $100 more. I spent HOURS on the phone with their customer service and they finally honored our original price. We then forgot our iPad in the car when we dropped it off in San Diego. We noticed immediately but it was midnight and we were crossing the border. We've spoke to 3 different customer service reps and no one has helped us receive our iPad. We had the car, location, new where we left it and we e just been going in circles trying to get it back. Do not use this place! They have horrible customer service. No lost and found for some locations? And they never get back to you. read more

I do not recommend this company at all!! They out source their call center out of the US and the stores it's self will not help you if you need a refund you have to call the call center. They give you the run around saying you will get a full refund. So far I haven't received my refund and I'm pissed. I have photos of them telling me I'm getting a full refund and I'm about to take them to court! There is better places to rent from! I should of read the reviews about this place before renting a car at this location but I was in a rush to get my family back on the road. Stay far away from this place. Rent a car from anywhere else but here. Took 45 minutes to check in my car, almost missed my cut off time to return the vehicle. A Philipino guy who seemed more experienced came in and started to help me but then, Brian, (see picture above) began helping me and he must of been new, they should train their people before interacting with the public. Could not figure out the computer system and looked like a chicken pecking the computer keyboard searching for the keys. They tried to overcharge the young lady in front of me as well as me when I finally got checked in. Took way, way too long. This place is not run by Avis/Budget, it's an independent franchise. My daughter was visiting from out of state, so I decided to rent her a car for the duration of her stay. I made a reservation 3 months in advance, at which time I indicated that she was 21 and paid an exorbitant premium for the privilege. The fact that it was supremely expensive to rent a car for a 21-year old is not the problem; I expected that. The issue is that I specifically chose AVIS (who I do not ordinarily use) because they rent to 21-year olds. They advertise it on their website and you must check a box on the site indicating the age and verify it multiple times during the reservation process. Point being, there was no mistaking the fact that I was reserving a car for a young person. When I arrived at this location to pick up the car, I was informed by a large, unenthusiastic woman that they did not rent to 21-year olds. I showed her my confirmation and related my experience making the reservation and what it entailed as far as indicating who the rental was for. She continued to insist she could not rent the car to my daughter despite any proof I offered regarding my confirmed reservation. I was finally forced to scramble and find another place to rent a car for my daughter. Terrible customer service, and uneducated, uninformed employees. Vote with your wallet and go anywhere else. Besides the fact that guy who helped us, made us feel like he had better things to do. We get the car, it is filthy! It was a mixture of sap with riverside fuzzes stuck to it. Looks like it had been washed in 4 rental trips. There was large gun stain on the side. The car didnt smell clean. My pops had to handwash the car before I took it out because he said he couldn't see out of the back window because it was so dirty, couldnt see out of the side mirror, the windows had large drip Marks on them. I've never had an issue renting cars before until I made a reservation here. My dad literally had to wash a rental for safety issues. I called her twice to see how I can go about getting a rental and she didn't mention not once they would be running my credit. I'm giving them one star as the girl that helped me was very nice. I did get the Explorer I had requested and for that I am happy. Now the bad............I prepaid as I saved money that way. When I picked it up I pointed out that the car was dirty and the windows were horrible. The girl said I can get a cloth and wipe it off. As I was already late picking it up (I had called the day before to let them know I'd be about 30 minutes later that the reservation and I was actually 20 minutes late) I didn't have time to wait. Later when I got home and we were loading luggage into the back, after flipping the seats to a flat position we noticed that there was trash and food crumbs all over. One of the compartments looked like milk had been spilled. We cleaned it up so we could put our stuff in and be on our way. He roof of the Explorer looks like it hasn't been washed in months. I have a truck that gets washed about every 2 months and isn't as dirty. The front end looked like it had traveled across the country. I have attached photos. I called them to let them know how bad it was. All they could do is put it in the notes and I had to call the Customer Assistance 800 number because it was prepaid. When I called that number and spoke to Kevin, who was very nice and apologized. He also asked if I had pix. Yes I did. He told me to hang on to them. I was offered an extra day or $50 dollars AFTER I returned the car. I will think twice about renting from AVIS/Budget again. read more

Ok, seriously don't know why the negative reviews. We have never had any issues with this location. Have been using them for a few years now when we come into Riverside. They are a very small location so I suggest going between opening hours to noon for your car to get "dibs" on something better than what you reserved or even having a car in your category requested. We reserved a compact car, at 8am pickup all they had was a Malibu or a Golf wagon, took the Malibu, my price remained the same, no increase or extra fees. If you need more of a variety, there is an Enterprise over on University that usually has a good amount of cars throughout the day. We choose Avis for the convenience of the location for us, never had any issues with the cars, you might get a car that just came back and they have not had a chance to get it cleaned up. But they let you know that it's still a little dirty and that's on you if you want to wait for its cleaning or just take off with the car, we take off, we have things to do, a little sand and or dust isn't going to bother us. Staff has always been good to us, usually a different person every time we come to town. We will continue to rent with this Avis. Looks like I'm the only positive review on here. I've been renting with this Avis for 5 years now. Lately my husband goes to pick the cars up. But we have never had any issues here. We book couple days in advance. This is a busy location so they sell out of cars quick on weekends. Like this weekend March10. Glad we booked a few days ago. Only had three cars here, an ugly a$& Versa, an Impala and an old Charger. We took the Impala. Seems like it's usually different people every time we come here. Young girl was nice today, she helped us get a better rate on the Impala which was awesome, I really appreciate great customer service. We scheduled a 2pm pickup online for New Years Eve. When we arrived at our scheduled pickup time there was a sign on the door saying they were closed early for New Years, even though we were never informed beforehand of the early closing time. We called and were told that all other locations besides the airport were also already closed. We had also called the location 30 minutes prior to our pickup time to make sure we didn't need any additional paperwork (e.g., proof of insurance, etc.) and during that phone call they never informed us of the early closing time either. Ended up going to a different rental company (Hertz on Indiana) and they were incredibly friendly and helpful and got us on the road quickly. read more

After researching rental car companies AVIS was the cheapest but I had to drive 11 miles to pick the store no big deal for saving $80 over the other companies. The closest store to me was the Riverside (Magnolia & Jurupa) location. When I reserved the car through AVISs customer service number I specifically asked the rep. if I was able to pay cash at the counter, he said yes. Due to identity theft probability I like to use cash rather than my debit. I reserved the car for 5:00 on 31 Jul 12 and got to the store to find the rep behind the counter not very helpful. He asked me for my drivers license and credit card, I told him that the rep told me I could pay cash at the counter he told me they need a credit/debit card for a $250 deposit plus the amount of the rental. Again I repeated what the rep told me over the phone and the rep at the counter just stared at me, shook his neck and put his hands out like "so, what are you going to do?" After staring back at the rude teen behind the counter I told him I was going to Enterprise in my city and left. I didn't appreciate that there was absolutely no customer service at the store, the rep on the phone did not tell me about the credit card policy so I could have been prepared. So needless to say I won't be using AVIS every again and I will inform everyone I know about this and about the rude treatment from the AVIS Riverside location. I also had to wait til the next day to rent the car from Enterprise since both stores were closing at 6:00 thus putting me really behind the schedule that I needed to follow. read more

Had a reservation, got a Lyft to the location only to be told that they didn't have the vehicle I requested or any other one for that matter. So now I'm stuck 11 miles away from home with no car and no ride. Girl at the front desk is clueless. She tells me that she can check another location to see if they have the car but they won't be able to bring it to me. Okay, how am I supposed to get there? When I asked if they could give me a ride home, she tells me that they can within 5 miles. I tell her I live further than that. She calls someone to get the number of someone else to see what time they are supposed to come in to give me a ride because her cleaning guy can't drive me because she needs him there. I end up calling Budget's customer service number and they tell me the closest Budget location with the car I need is ONT airport! They tell me they can reimburse both of my Lyfts. The staff states they tried calling 2 days from day of pick-up to tell me but I didn't return their call like it became my fault? That doesn't change the fact that they still didnt have my van and a 2-day notice is not going to allow me to get the vehicle at the price I booked two months ago. On the recent rental I was to pick the vehicle up at 8:00 am from store on Magnolia in Riverside, CA. When I got there first I was told the vehicle I reserved on-line was not available. Why have this service if it is not honored? Next, I was told the rental vehicle was not ready. Why put down a rental time if its not honored? I ordered a car with XM Radio which the one I got did not have. Again, why offer this if you can"t deliver on it.When I finally go the vehicle at approx. 8:40 and having a 7 hour drive staring me in the face and 40 minutes late I was not happy. Then, once inside the vehicle and while driving I noticed the inside was filthy. It looked like spilled soda in the cup holders which was not even touched. It also looked like the person who rented it before me had sneezed several times on the steering wheel and dash area, and there was dog hair everywhere. I know this because the hair was stuck to the spilled soda. I had to stop by my residence to clean the car for the drive and upon opening the trunk to put luggage in there was dog hair everywhere thus nessitating my vacuuming out the trunk. Now I'm the 40 minutes waiting for the car behind plus the additional 30 minutes to clean the car further. On top of all of this the customer service attendant was less than polite, looked like she just woke up from the couch in the waiting area and acted totally indifferent to the fact the car was not ready. In this rental the only person who tried harder was me. So Avis DOESN'T try harder unless it to piss you off. Don't waste your time renting from here. I left the Avis at LAX enroute to Riverside. A few minutes later I noticed the smell of wet laundry that was left in the washer for some time. You know the smell I'm referring. I existed the freeway and called the Avis location on Magnolia and spoke to Rachel. I explained my situation to her. She responded she had two rentals on the lot but those were tagged for an oil change and routine maintenance. I stated I had a meeting in two hours and will be taking clients to lunch that same day. She put me hold for about five minutes. When she came back on the line, she said there was a car that was headed to her location and I should come by and switch rentals. I came in, she drafted the new paperwork and I was on the road in 15 minutes. I had a clean car and had lunch with my clients. I average two rentals a month and normally go to Ontario Airport. I get great deals with Priceline, but I figured since this Avis office is very close and I was in a pinch, I gave it a try. I wasn't impressed. Yes, I didn't have to pay the additional 22% in airport fees, but this Avis car selection isn't great. The airport vehicles are also better maintained! I thought maybe that was just a fluke so I decided to give this place another try plus I saved a litte more by paying in advance so I went ahead and made my reservation in advance. The car I received clearly hadn't been washed, the driver side windshield apparently had been wiped down (I could tell by the streaks), the interior was stained (okay, it's a rental I understand), and the dashboard and door panels were dirty. It was the only vehicle in it's class so unless I wanted a pricey upgrade I was stuck with it. Oh, and customer service isn't that great either. From now on, I'll stick with Avis at Ontario Airport. They have great customer service, a great vehicle selection and they are well maintained. read more

Rented a car in Fresno from Avis at the airport. Perfect transaction great car excellent service. Riverside drop off location was an experience no one would like to have repeated. Returned the car several hours ahead of time. Door at the Riverside office (in a shopping center) was locked and the mail / Key Drop slot glued shut. Office door said open at 8AM. I left the location at 8:05 AM (office still not open) because I had to make a meeting over an hour away at 9AM. I called the phone number on the window which was to ring in that office and it just forwarded to the Avis Corporate phone center. I asked them to call their office and they tried with no luck either. I told them I would park the car right in front of the office in the lot and put the keys on the top of the LF tire. The Corporate office opened a "Case" for this incident so I would not be charged with wrong doing in this return. 26 hours later a young woman that identified herself as the Avis agent for that Riverside office phoned me. She rudely not let me talk after asking me where the car and keys were. She just kept talking over me when I was answering her questions. Then called me a liar and called her Corporate office a liar about calling her Riverside office the day before, when I was trying to drop off the car. That kind of attitude in business is just grounds for dismissal. This young woman needs a lesson in customer etiquette and how to deal with people like FIRE THE BIT*H ! read more

This establishment was the worst place I've ever been too in my entire life! They ruined my valentine weekend! My boyfriend was gonna surprise me with a romantic get away and we had a "RESERVATION" for today at 2:30 pm we showed up at 1:30 pm not even greeted by anyone, we're standing in the lobby for 5 mins before a young lady emerges from the back room with a listless look on her face, she starts to take down our information and doesn't even know what shes' doing. She starts accusing my bf of using a "avis" credit card we never heard of it and she's insisting that we used it. Finally things got ironed out, 20 minutes later a young man wearing a baggy sweatshirt with his cell phone in hand walks out and assist her in filling out our information and then another couple comes in and he starts helping them, simultaneously they tell both of us that they were out of cars. ... yes, out of cars. How the hell do you forget to tell us off the bat you don't have our reserved product?! we booked this reservation DAYS in advanced too! They tell that we can drive over to the University avis and see if they have cars since they didn't. I had to tell the girl to call the other branch before driving over there ourselves! she called once and starts flirting with her co worker leaving all of us with no information. I asked her to call again and she said no one was picking up. I got angry and called myself they pick up right away, off the bat the woman at the university avis was RUDE! they tell us it's not their problem and they offered us an SUV double the cost! I walk in and tell the clerks that university didn't even have cars and they both gave me a blank stare and asked what the number was so they could call the other branch. THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEIR OTHER BRANCHES NUMBER! I told them to forget it and don't even bother we canceled our reservation and I called customer hotline and filed a complaint to headquarters my boyfriend was offered a $30 gift certificate (good for a one day rental) and the kind woman on the phone reassured us that the clerks would get whats coming to them because they tarnished the avis name.
