I normally don't write many reviews, but I am a long-term SUV lessee at this location, and I have to say that Angela is by far the BEST manager I have ever experienced in the car rental industry. The North Central Bell Road Avis/Budget location is always spotless--clean, fresh-smelling, and brightly lit. From the moment you walk in, Angela greets you with a warm smile, even when customers are rushed, stressed about payments, or dealing with rideshare timing. Her professionalism never wavers. Angela is calm, collected, and an incredible multitasker. Since her arrival, this location has noticeably become busier--clearly a reflection of her exceptional service. She dresses professionally, carries herself with an attitude of gratitude, and genuinely takes pride in making sure every customer is 100% satisfied before they drive off the lot. I was very nice but the woman behind the counter was rude. She asked if she should charge the car to the card on file, I clearly told her no. I inserted the correct card and then asked her to make sure she used it. She said she didn't and asked me to insert it again which I did. I consider the charges she charged me unauthorized because I clearly told her I did not want to use the card on file. She did not want to be there. My account is STILL very negative as I was unable to re-rent the car due to their costs and fees. Why charge me $1600!AND charge me by the week? If I could give Avis 0 stars I would. Absolute scammers. I would recommend that you rent from a different company. We had to rent a car for 3 months . We are now on our 5th tesla model 3 in that time period because the condition of all those cars were horrible. Car 1 - Several dents, paint splash marks around the car, missing mats, interior wood paneling all pealing up and very loud whistling through the window due to cracked window seal. The car was dirty. Car 2 - We asked for a trade in because car 1 was in such bad shape. Car 2 after about a week or 2 started to display issues with the battery and would not hold a charge. This car was also very dirty, pealing wood interior. We had to trade this one in due to that maintenance issue. Car 3 - We picked this one up at the airport and was not given a "pink" condition slip that identifies all the damage. The attendant said with tesla's this was not needed as they have cameras and could see who caused the damage if need be. This car as the others was dirty, had multiple dents, had a peeling steering wheel. We turned this one in because we were going on a 10 day trip. When we returned , we picked up our 4th car. Car 4 - Dirty, but drivable until the only key card stopped functioning. It was very difficult to open the doors and get the car started. Had to position the broken key card just the right way to get the car to activate and start. Sometimes it took about 15 mins. Car 5 - current car. Dirty, dents, missing floor mats, peeling wood paneling, left side seatbelt pillar in between driver is popped off and is barely hanging on. Avis now had the nerve of sending us a 2K bill for damage . This is such a scam. We had all the cars garaged, washed, and taken care of very well. We did not put a scratch on any of these cars. Avis is looking to have it's renters pay for their lack of maintenance. DO NOT RENT FOR AVIS. Bottom line, we now have to hire an attorney to fight these claims. Of course they are not willing to look at the tesla footage to prove we did not do anything.. Stay away is my best advice. read more

STRANDED in the desert by Phoenix Airport AVIS "ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE" all NIGHT long ... Customer Service? After picking up my brother from the hospital, we barely got to Winslow, Az where the car overheated. Still hours away from our home. We called for Roadside Assistance and then we waited for 5+ hrs for a tow truck to retrieve the car (unacceptable!!) AND we were stranded: - to locate, and pay for, our own way home. - no taxis available, no Uber available and NO ASSISTANCE from AVIS Customer Service with transportation. - Expected to go back to the airport for a car. They would NOT bring a replacement car to us (no concern about the time of night) - No food OR WATER allowance/assistance. - 106 degrees and we had to sit and wait IN THE CAR !! This trip started because I needed to fly out and pick-up my brother from the hospital and take him home after surgery. Now we are stranded at my brother's with no way to the airport (3 hrs away). Giving one star as I need to in order to alert you to the scam that is the prepay option offered via text messages and telemarketers. Long story short, we evacuated our room at the Hilton Hotel Tapatio as it was infested with bed bugs and we were injured. We returned home early as a result. Prior to our trip, we prepaid for a rental with Avis. The offers kept coming and we rescheduled our rental for the lower price each time a new lower offer came in (3X). Avis accepted and billed prepayment immediately (approximately one month early). The Sky Harbo facility is poorly managed and understaffed. Even though we had preregistered and prepaid, we were required to wait on a long line that took two hours to reach the counter and another 30 minutes to retrieve a car. There is no expedited service for prepaid, preregistered customers. When we returned the car early due to the terrible circumstances at Hilton Tapatio resort, we requested a refund for the difference between the fees for time the vehicle was used (2 days) and the six (6) days we prepaid. Avis refused to grant any consideration for our situation and insisted on payment for the entire six days. We requested a refund from Bank of America and Avis and provided documented details on why we left early and returned home. Avis at Sky Harbor continued to refuse to return any portion of our prepaid fees. A REPUTABLE BUSINESS INTERESTED IN SALVAGING ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH A VALUED CUSTOMER WOULD HAVE recognized the plight of a decades long customer and made some accommodation by returning part of the prepaid amount. SO, IN ADDITION TO harassing email, text messages and constantly changing terms and conditions along with incredibly long lines that ignore preregistered customers checking in,and terrible customer service in securing a auto at the airport, the Company has proven to us it could care less about its customers. We will not rent from Avis again anywhere they operate. We will resort to taking Uber or Lyft rides to and from our destinations in the future. This is only about wonderful employee/agent Amber at the Phoenix Bell Towne Plaza location. The airport Avis people gave us two older people a too big Bronco and it had not been checked; the upper panels were not locked down and the road noise was terrible. The next morning we went to the Bell Towne Plaza location and Amber was completely sympathetic and understanding, immediately traded the Bronco for a Nissan Altima (we had asked for a Camry, not a big monster) which was perfect. Watch for the hidden fees! Our bill was $77 additional to the original price quoted. In this time of AI it seems ridiculous that an exact price cannot be quoted. In addition, the clerk that checked us in was NOT customer service oriented whatsoever. We paid $43.50 for a child's car seat that was definitely at least a decade old and questionably safe. Avis charged us an additional $130 in fees without any communication or consent. When we asked about the fees, they claimed that we returned the car in Sedona, rather than Phoenix. We provided proof that the car was returned to Phoenix (thankfully we had an uber receipt after returning the car). They only credited us back $110. We had to again reach out and ask why we did not get a full refund for the fees and they claimed there was a fuel charge. Thankfully, we also had proof that we gassed up at a Phoenix gas station right before we turned the car in. This company should get sued and have to pay millions of dollars in settlements to everyone they're ripping off. Make sure you document EVERYTHING when renting through Avis. They're stealing money from customers and are reluctant to provide a full refund even when you have proof. Still waiting for them to refund the additional $20 fuel charge. Such an aggravation. As if that helps in anyway today. At 8:00 AM, 6/21/24 I arrived at the Avis car rental location at 245 E Bell Rd in Phoenix to pick up an SUV to use for the day for work. I always place my rental requests through Costco and use Avis frequently. However, due to a previous incident where the vehicle smelled terribly of cigarette smoke, I was provided a "discount" on the next rental. This "discount" was only for $50 and did not cover the cost of actual rental but it was a "goodwill gesture." So this time I went to the Avis website to use this discount code since I could not use the code on the Costso website. No vehicles were available when I arrived at Avis and I had to wait for one to rent. Finally, a Toyota 4Runner was delivered and I left for work. The agreement was for that day and to be returned by 9 AM on 6/22/24. The rental agreement showed 1 hour @ $23.34 and 1 Day @ $69.99. The coupon was applied and I received a total of $43.19. However, I returned early and left the vehicle at the rental location at 4:49 PM on 6/21/24 to avoid paying the extra $23.34. I expected the total with the discount to be $19.85. However, the next day I received an invoice from Avis for $153.43!! After several attempts to reach customer service (which is virtually impossible), I reached an agent who told me I agreed to a "mileage charge" and had booked through a third-party agent. Clearly, Avis.com is NOT a third-party agent and I have never paid a "mileage charge!" The agent said some days there is a "mileage charge" and some days mileage is unlimited. For the record, since I travel all over Arizona for work I have NEVER and would NEVER rent from Avis if I was being charged for mileage. I understood my charges were $43.19 and even the agent at the counter commented this was a good deal. In addition, the phone agent could not tell me what days or when a "mileage charge" is applied and when it is unlimited. Since I have never paid for "mileage" this action appears to be very deceptive! In retrospect, I would have paid less with Enterprise car rental through Costco rather than go through this deceptive practice by Avis. So after writing to Avis their only reply was, "...we were able to confirm that only 225 miles were included in your rate. We appreciate your business and hope you have a great day." They charge me an extra $110.00 blow off the details and say "hope you have a great day?!" What is wrong with these people? I do not tolerate or condone this kind of dishonest, hidden "bait-and-switch" technique of adding charges. Clearly they don't care to even address the matter and have no use for my business. One of the worst car rentals ever. Please check reviews before booking with them. We waited in line for an hour to get checked in for the reservation. Got all the paperwork. Then went downstairs they told us our car would be. No where did it say where to pick up the car, checked the board and we werent there, contacted them online and nothing, we waited another hour just to find out we could have picked it up across the lot. No signs said it or anything either. The rep said that we could sign up for preferred but nowhere was that stated to be something totally different. A simple sign would have helped or just being told upstairs there was a difference. No communication. it would be much more cheaper and quicker for my sister to drive up from Tucson to pick us up then for us to wait and get the car. They offer different types of insurance and usually have the best rates on busy weekends. Every car i've received has been clean, low mileage and in great condition. Worst experience ever with a rental car company. I will never use Avis/Budget ever again. Prepaid for a rental for 10 days while my car was having body work done so I could be reassured to have a vehicle for work. The work was completed in 4 days which is totally out of my control. Returned the car and asked about a refund and "corporate policy" is that none of a prepaid rental is refundable--EVER. No attempt to work with me at all. Lost a customer for life. No benefit for good, honest full paying customers to ever pre-pay. I don't see any benefit of ever doing business with a corporation that does not consider their customers' individual situations. Avis / Payless at Phoenix International Airport is on the beginning end of this review This began on Tuesday July 13, 2021. I approached the Payless desk just because it was the first one I saw. The lady at the counter explained how Payless and Avis are the same thing. I explained to her how my flight was canceled and this was unfortunate since I'm with my 9yr old (who had been on the road for the last 15hrs coming back from vacation with his grandpa) and I was really trying to avoid driving back but I needed a car asap to drive back home to Ontario CA. As I took a phone call she said to me she had a car for $230, i asked her if she had a convertible to make up to my son to enjoy at the very least in which she then replied that they had a mustang for $30 more and I agreed. My fault here and I take responsibility for what happened next: As I continued my conversation with my wife on the phone she placed the contract in front of me with "x" marking the places that required my signatures. I simply signed away without looking at the additional $80 of "optional" add ons she tacked on without explaining. Dirty sales tactic but ok my fault for not reading what I signed. It is now 5pm as I'm getting in this mustang dreading the 5hrs+ of driving to finally get home. As I reached for my driver side seatbelt (I didn't pay any mind to it then) I noticed my seat belt didn't retract as it would normally would, so I tugged on it a bit until it retracted and when i simply buckled it and started my 5hr journey. About an hour in as I adjusted myself in my seat the buckle came loose and I thought that was weird but I re inserted the seatbelt into the buckle and continued driving. About 1.5hrs away from my final destination I got off to get gas and it wasn't until then that I realized my seatbelt had not been buckling into place as it should and I had been driving like that this whole time!! I immediately starting having anxiety just thinking what if someone rear ended me or what if I get into an accident where the seatbelt should have saved my life but did not since it wasn't functioning at all! I've been in rear end accidents before and the thought of my seatbelt not working made me realize I need to call this in just to have it on record heaven forbid I am in an accident. I called the emergency roadside assistance and after 10+ minute wait they answered and they explained to me since the car didn't necessarily need a tow and no mobile mechanics where near by, that I should take it to the nearest Avis and exchange the vehicle. And well the nearest Avis location to me at the time was the location in Ontario where I reside. At this point my final destination was a few miles closer to my home and I decided I would not drive this car one mile more than what was necessary so I drove it home. The next day I immediately called the Avis location in Ontario at least 6xs and no one answered. I the. Called roadside assistance and after 30mins someone finally answered and told me that if they picked up the car I may be charged with the tow! So I decided to take drive my own personal car there and explained to them that that vehicle is unsafe to drive and that they should have it picked up. The lady at the counter told me that "that's a Phoenix issue" and that I would need to call them. After speaking to an agent at the Phoenix location she then explained to me that that's a "claims department issue" and forwarded my call them. After speaking to an agent there then referred me to the customer service department because it was a "customer service issue." After speaking to someone in customer service he then explained to me that emergency roadside assistance would need to pick up the vehicle smh ‍!!!! Keep in mind every phone call has at least a 30min wait time on average!! And when someone finally picks up the have no phone etiquette skills and lack professionalism as if you are responsible for this issues!!! At this point I decided to drive the vehicle to the location myself. After turning the vehicle I call customer service back again only to be told that they can offer 50% off my total bill which came out to be $331 . I declined and explained how none of this is my fault I took multiple losses having to deal with this including: a day off of work, anxiety and frustration. Since I've started this review I've been on hold to speak to someone in regards to my compensation for the loss they are responsible for I've now been on hold for 1hr +!! What is the point of having Preferred status if you still have to stand in line to deal with unpleasant unhelpful agents? You get a notification on your phone that your car is ready and to click on the tab to get its location. You do that, and then you get a message that says your car isn't ready and to go to the Preferred counter for help. Then you stand in line forever only to be told that your location was "emailed to you." I check my emails and there's nothing there. She tells me again it was emailed to me. I say no and walk out. Just then as I get to my car an email shows up. Does me no good after standing in line for 30 minutes. And the attitude taken by the agent was off the charts rude and unhelpful. The scoring on the staff review is 5 however, the vehicle in which, my boyfriend and I rented was absolute the worst rental I've ever seen. The outside of the vehicle was clean and nice but the inside was a disaster!!! The back of the seats were scratched up as if, a cat was inside and clawed it to death. The carpet was a mess and looked as if someone took it apart, machine washed it with bleach and tried to die it back to its original color then, stuck it back inside of the vehicle. The backseats were dingy and stained to the point of no return. My boyfriend was nonchalant about the vehicle and was just glad it wasn't ours. I was disgusted by the inside but sucked it up and stopped complaining about it, after about an an hour of venting about it. I suggested to my boyfriend that we should rent from another rental company in the future, or at least, pick out a cleaner vehicle. The cleanliness had nothing to do with the young fella who cleaned it because he did a good job, with what he had to work with. My boyfriend was just happy that we made it to Vegas and back with no problems. I did like that the vehicle was super good on gas! I was to disgusted to take any pictures to be honest. If you rent from this location I'd check the inside, particularly the backseats of the vehicle especially, if you're going to have people in the back. I only recommend renting here because of staff which were nice and professional. read more

We reserved a rental car at the Phoenix Airport and wanted an SUV but since nothing was available, we settled for "full size" which is apparently a tiny Kia. The tiny little rental was absurdly expensive. Over $800 for two full days with one late evening pick up and one very early morning drop off. The car was filthy. A soda or something had been spilled on the exterior and had dried and was covered in dirt. The side view mirrors were so dirty you could not see anything in them. The interior reeked of marijuana smoke despite a warning on the door that smoking in the vehicle would result in a stiff fine. The smell was so strong that it was evident no cleaning had occurred in the car at all. The windows were dirty and smeared with (I think) sunscreen. It was awful. To top it all off, during the lengthy wait to receive the rental, customers were shown a video on a large screen television describing the great care that Avis takes in cleaning of vehicles, especially during COVID. After a terrible experience in renting a car with Budget at the Phoenix airport, we rented out car from the Avis location. We booked a RAV4 or similar car. The person gave us a 64000 miles old Honda-CRV. It was not a busy day and I saw a number of new and newer RAV4s in the lot. I guess the person at the counter did not believe that we brown people deserved a newer better car. read more

Huge facility with 15 check-in counters, but only 2 was attended or open. Line was long (more than 10 people waiting) yet none of the agents bothered to ask for help. Each agent took about 10-15 minutes to complete a transaction, so I really feel bad for the person at the end of the line. There's a manager in the office that came out once in a while, but didn't bother providing any sort of help or comfort to customers. The agent said they are super busy, pumping about 3000 cars a day since they have most of the business in PHX airport. after getting my car, i had to sit in line again (for a long time) just to get out of the garage. Two booths and one for special members. Way to go for boosting your profit margin while the service employees and majority of the customers suffer. Definitely not going to Avis again! read more
