Ok- mixed feelings about this place. 1. The breakfast sandwiches were awesome! Would definitely recommend. 2. Their coffee was very good as well, however, I ordered a medium latte and the milk was only filled 1/2 way, more like a cappuccino. When my husband took it back to the bar and asked to top it off with milk, the barista replied, "No, I don't have any more."?!!!! What?! After all the years, all the coffee shops I've been to, I've never been told no to a little more steamed milk! I went to the bar myself and explained to the barista that a latte is filled to the top with milk, not halfway up the cup. So ridiculous! Apparently they don't want people ripping them off? I don't get it! read more

First of all, the coffee here is the best in Petaluma. It's why I come back here. Their drip coffee is a 10/10 as far as I am concerned. Their staff is a completely different story. I began utilizing their mobile order option in an attempt to minimize my interaction with their unfriendly staff but I still encounter rude, unwelcoming employees when I go in to get my coffee. It is so strange to walk into a cafe and have three or four employees all look you in the eye as you wait and have no smile and to not greet you when you smile at them. I have encountered the same young woman with a shaved head and pony tail who was working at the food heating station turn around and glare at customers before turning back around. What is her deal? Placing her at the oven isn't enough to hide her bad energy from the customers. Today I watched a customer try to thank the employees about three times for a large order and they all stared at him like he was speaking in a foreign language. They then proceeded to make fun of him as he walked away. Seriously, what is wrong with the workers here?! The wait time is also unbelievably long (I know it isn't Starbucks and that they're crafting a high quality product but if I order a drip coffee on mobile order to go at 11:06 AM, it should be ready when I come to get it at 11:25 AM.) If you want a GREAT tasting cup of coffee and that's all you care about, this is the place to go. If you like to go somewhere that is warm, welcoming, and the employees are POLITE, stay far, far away from here. read more

I'm not as big a fan of Avid as when it was Acre and Susan managed the place. Susan had employees who she hired who represented Acre well and she was always fun and kind. She gave me a free drink when she learned I'd had cancer. It was a small gesture that won my heart! I decided to tell the manager about the 6/4/24 experience I witnessed where a customer lost her entire lunch and drink to a blast of wind. I asked the manager to step outside so I could talk to her in private. I told her about the woman losing her entire meal and that while the employees helped her clean it up (and she'd just started her meal) no one offered to replace it. I know, I was there, and, I replaced her meal, me, a fellow customer. I wanted her to know that I thought in the future they should replace the meal as it was a "matter of perception" and that it might benefit AVID. I said the woman had a salad and some other food. All I remember was green. She said, "Well, in the first place we don't sell salads, so she likely got it next door, and that every single time that...." and I cut her off, I said, well all I knew was that the employees knew what happened as they helped her clean it up and that no, no one did replace her meal (at least the part she got at Avid). I suggested that she was arguing with me and as she walked away, she said that she wasn't. This is how I believe in a professional manner she might have replied, "Thank you", or thank you, we do normally replace a meal in these instances." I believe what I was offering AVID, was a gift of: (Other) people, as well as this customer, may remember a kind gesture, and it may give them an appreciative view of AVID. That's what Susan's gift of a drink did for me. I'll always remember how kind Susan was. Now, however, I may limit my exposure to AVID and go to Stelina Pronto that has always had a better selection of treats. Thank you again Susan, as I said, I will always remember your kindness!! read more

This place has great food, drinks and staff! The manager is a wonderful person and it reflects on the team.

Wonderful coffee shop for studying/working! A bit high price but with it for the ambiance and study space!

I rarely go to cafes because I think paying close to $5 is outrageous, but this was almost worth the price. The taste of the coffee was phenomenal . Service was friendly and smiling. read more

Great service, tasty food options. Really well put together, quality ingredients. Loved the steel cut oats, and our 1year old loved the egg in the breakfast sandwich, which had great tasting chewy bread. read more

Slow , slow, slow service. Hot cocoa I had was weak. Right now we're told covid cases are rising fast and the place was so stuffy and unventilated that you could almost see the virus floating around. Clueless. read more

Lovely coffee but even more important is kind staff! They didn't mind me sharing my story about biking into town for the first time and even helped make sure I was plenty hydrated on the hottest day of the year! Their baked goods are to die for and I simply couldn't resist their blueberry CORNMEAL muffin. Whaaat. Two of my fav things in one. Plenty of space for all the study folk! Easy recommendation! :) read more

Great coffee and the churro muffin was the perfect accompaniment to my Breve (and a great way to start off the day after a wedding ;) You can order from your phone so that you don't have to wait in line to order which was convenient for the post wedding sore feet ;) Very popular little shop~ so with the long line, the online ordering was right for me. Lovely service with outdoor seating in front of the entrance. Coffee was decent and well priced. Loved the cold brew. Boyfriend said the mocha was okay! They gave us free pastries since the shop was closing soon! read more

Busy busy place. Looks like a town's fav. Popped in here to grab a coffee and tried the Tumeric latte. Fantastic. They have some unique options. The pastries looked fantastic, cookies, croissants, cakes and cinnamon rolls. They also have food here but didn't have anything. They also have on tap kombucha. Super nice staff.. read more

It would be totally cool if Avid used cardboard sleeves instead of double cups for hot drinks. The cups are coated with plastic and cannot be recycled. Great coffee and baked goods here. read more

Thanks great coffee. And great side dishes. My out of towers love it when they come to Santa ross

The place is slow, it took 20 min to get a cup of drip coffee. 5 min just to get to the counter and 15 in to get the 8 ounce cup. Workers appear so disinterested and sluggish that I wonder if they like working there. Walked to STELLINA and received an order in less than 2 min. I do not care if people who work at Avid will recognize me by this review. Definitely not going there again. Lived in Petaluma for 18 years and will certainly outlive this place. Oh, as for coffee... it was okay. Filled to the brim, begging to be spilled over. read more

I wish I had heeded the previous reviews on the staff...As much as I enjoy a wonderful cup of coffee, the staff would make me look elsewhere. My husband and I were staying the weekend in Petaluma and I followed the reviews for Avid which was in the downtown district where we were staying. When we walked in, the male barista was using the f-word before we made it to the counter. We were the first customers after the store opened. No one greeted us or in any way appeared friendly or welcoming. For a $30 breakfast, there are other quaint places in the neighborhood that offer appreciation for your patronage. Blank stares were the best we got. read more

Good coffee. I bought a bag of beans and they included a free cup of coffee with that. I always appreciate it when that is done.

Absolutely ridiculous and horrible experience. We waited ten minutes in line and then 25 minutes to get three simple drinks. They needed at least double the staff because they were filling all these pick up orders before people in the store. They should tell people about the long wait when they order. Would NEVER go again! read more

In the midst of all the historic buildings and antique stores, Acre Coffee may be slightly out of place with its cool hip vibe. But I'm not complaining. The Cortado was excellent! Their brewed coffee reminds me of Blue Bottle coffee from further south. The service was friendly and helpful, and I liked the minimal decor and retro lamps. read more

Stopped by on Saturday afternoon Easter weekend. The place wasn't hard to find, just off the main downtown street. I was surprised to find out they don't serve pour overs in this shop, which most speciality coffee shops do offer now a days. They do offer brewed coffee for their single origin, but it was clearly soured not from the taste note but from the coffee sitting out too long. Also tried their nitro, probably one of the best one I had. Smoothy and creamy. However, I've never seen anyone else serve nitro cold brew with a glass full of ice. They do serve a variety of other drinks and light bites. Very relaxing vibe with a communal table. read more

Such a hit and miss place. Sometimes, the service is super friendly and quick. Other times, it's slow as hell and the people working act like they'd rather be anywhere else in the world. They have good coffee and pastries, but it's almost not worth the bad attitude. They regularly up their prices and reduce their portions for their breakfast/lunch dishes, and I'd much rather go somewhere else for those prices. read more

We came here last week and it was delicious. Even though they were slow, and all the girls "working" were huddled and talking ignoring my order, the man who may have been the owner or manager made our food and apologized for the delay. The coffee and English muffin and frittata with bacon were so good we had to come back today. Well, even though we ordered ahead and I arrived when it should have been done, they hadn't started yet. Regardless that it made me late for a seminar I'm attending, I thought that's ok because it was delicious food. Gee was I wrong. The English Muffin wasn't even toasted. As a matter of fact it was dripping in what I at first thought was butter, but after smelling it was bacon grease. Check out the picture and you'll see what I mean. Got a bagel that was burnt with no butter, and it was supposed to have butter. Nothing was edible. We spent just shy of $50 and had to throw the food away. The coffee was still good. I hope the beans we got are good. But I don't think I'll shop here again. If they don't improve I don't see how this place will stay open. Quit frankly I think they should get rid of the current staff and start over with people who actually give a damn about performing the service they are paid to do. read more

The DMV handbook recommend, if you do a lot of driving and begin to feel drowsy and sleepy, take a break and do whatever it takes to wake your ass up before getting behind the wheel again. This applied to me every time I drive as far as Petaluma from San Francisco. "I'm aware I'm getting old. I'm sure the similar occurrence applies to you too. So we're on the same boat as well!" Of course, there is a Starbucks and Peet's in Downtown Petaluma. I mean, unless the city is poor, which downtown city(s) does not have Starbucks? As sleepy as I was, I have enough energy to find an independent coffee house to hopefully find a better (quality-wise and stronger) cup of coffee. And Acre Coffee bar is where I landed. The coffee house uses Flying Goat Coffee Company; based out of Healdsburg, which is up north from Petaluma. For $2.50, I get that same coffee company in my cup of coffee in the afternoon. The café's coffee is made drip-style for a better tasting cup of Joe. "Oh yeah, I feel a lot better with a strong cup of coffee." I also like the café's offering of Agave nectar sweetener for your beverage. "Makes my coffee even better". Briefly, the café is a cool hangout for people with laptops to do what they gotta do. The staff was very friendly as well. I would definitely make my second-home here. Another gem I found in Petaluma! read more

***COOL CAFE WITH GOOD COFFEE IN TRENDY DOWNTOWN PETALUMA*** We leveraged Yelp to find a cool cafe while we waited for friends to meet us at another restaurant (Aqus Cafe - also very good!). Its located along a trendy 4th street in Petaluma and definitely worth checking out. Beware the long lines. AMBIANCE ========== Cool ambiance, new, rustic Metal and wood Track lighting Quirky pics of locals in the walls Clean bathrooms LONG LINES THOUGH 4/5 BEVERAGES ====== ALMOND MILK LATTE Yummy and nicely prepared. RATING: 5/5 HOT COCOA Too much milk and not enough cocoa. 3/5 PRICE / VALUE ======= Less than $20. Not outrageous prices. SERVICE ========== Good service, nice people. From the Website: The old world quality of 4th Street in Petaluma, first attracted us to this location. Small, locally owned shops, historic buildings and tree-lined sidewalks give it its character. In 2011, we built this store with 100 percent re-claimed lumber. We purchased a stack of old framing timber from a local dismantled warehouse. We milled and planed it ourselves using it to build our tables, walls, shelves and counters. Conscientious sourcing of seasonal coffees, along with the talent and years of experience of our roaster, results in the special varietals we offer at Acre Coffee. read more

****After Acre Coffee read my husband's review, they reached out to him to apologize for the negative experience he had. They also credited his total charge back to his account and asked him to consider returning and giving them a second chance. They also explained the lack of vegan options and how that is being resolved. This really showed me how important Yelp is. Everyone and every business can sometimes have a bad day. But instead of the customer never coming back and the business never knowing there was a problem, these reviews can and do offer the chance for resolution! Thanks to the owner of Acre for taking our concerns seriously and reaching out. That was very cool! See you next time we visit Petaluma! This was my second visit to Acre Coffee. The first visit was much better. I don't order lattes when I go out much anymore. I have an espresso machine at home and love the organic, fair trade decaf coffee that I buy. When I make my own, I know exactly what's in it including sugar content. And there is only one coffee shop I've ever been to that has decaf coffee that tastes as good as the caffeinated stuff. However, my husband is a caffeine addict. So he likes to get lattes no matter what time of day it is. As usual, when Steve orders his coffee he asks for it to be warm vs. hot. We also were interested in getting a slice of their vegan banana bread but they were sold out. So the first disappointment is that they didn't have anything available that was vegan-friendly and the second disappointment was that Steve's latte was scalding hot. It was so hot, it burned his tongue when he took a sip. We wandered around for about 15 minutes before it was a temperature that he could drank. I tasted it and it tasted like scalded coffee. It was very bad. Steve is really flexible and always gives the benefit of the doubt especially when it comes to restaurants. So when he says he will not be back, it is a big deal. read more

Coffees great but how long will it take for them to learn they need two people making espresso drinks. It's baffling they have yet to figure this out. Waiting 20 mins for a matcha yes this was with no line , is unacceptable. read more

The place seemed packed but they were very efficient. My first reaction to my iced chai latte with almond milk was "oh, gawd, that's good!" It had a little more spice and kick to it- goes down smooth and plays on your tongue a little longer. It's different in an exciting and tasty way! My vegan banana bread had good flavor but seemed too dry. My husband really enjoyed his cinnamon roll though- didn't even get to try a bite (how rude ). I am gonna give them 3.5 stars I was in town to meet a friend and needed a place to hang while I was killing some time. Typically, I do that kinda thing in the car so I can listen to some SiriusXM but the weather was splendid on this day and I was in the mood for a caffeine high, so I went to checkout this place. Really nice location, really clean inside and the vibe was super chill. So far, so good. I went up to the counter and I guess I'm spoiled b/c I was under the impression everyone gets down with the pour over these days, but I was mistaken. I saw the medium sized decanter sitting there and that's not a good thing in my book. My cup must have been born in the early A.M. cause it was pretty sad. Fresh coffee is a thing of beauty and sadly, I didn't get one of those on the first go around. However, they have some really solid baked goods. I thoroughly enjoyed a toffee choco chip cookie which was soft and fresh. My buddy showed up and I decided what's better than a caffeine high?? Oh yeah, caffeine overdose of course!! I went in for round two and clearly when they get busy, which they were by this time, they make the coffee more frequently. The second cup was pretty good. Nothing special, but solid. I was told that this place pops at night. They have live music every now and again and it's a good venue to chill in the evening. It's unlikely that I will be around for any of that, but I thought I would pass it along in the event some locals are reading this. read more

The vibe is very nice of the place, they do take a little while so don't expect to be in and out. I had an iced mocha and it tasted mostly of milk and no real coffee. The other person said there drink was fine but nothing to rave about, could have got more flavor and kick from Starbucks. read more

San Francisco coffee shop in Petaluma! This is the only coffee shop that really seems to cater to people who like to open up their laptop and get some work done at a coffee shop. Also, the music mix created a nice ambiance, which literally put my 3 month old baby straight to sleep. My first impression of this place was a little confused by my love of the vibe and the lack of service. When my hubby and I approached the counter, there was a man standing there who didn't acknowledge us. We actually didn't even realize he was the one who was supposed to take our order... we figured he was the busser or something, so we waited for a cue or someone else to help us while he stared into space. Then finally we asked him, "Can you take our order?" Turns out he could. Would have felt a little more welcoming if he would have said, "Hi" or "Welcome" or "What would you like?" The band-aid was the super BEAUTIFUL mocha that tasted as gorgeous as it looked. See picture. So awesome. read more
