I hired this company several months ago to take care of a rodent problem in my house. Unfortunately, the company went out of business before they could finish the job. They took my full payment and never serviced the contract as we had agreed to. I believe that the company recently reopened and I have had a difficult time trying to get a refund from the owner, Gary Gaviola. In fact, he recently cursed me out for trying to get a refund on the unfulfilled contract. The person who actually did the work was Angelo Sarino. He was very nice and seemed quite knowledgeable, however his workmanship was poor. The concrete he poured to cover an opening under my water heater cracked. He missed several openings in my roof, one of which I observed a rat emerging from. And most egregious of all, he completely ignored a gaping hole behind the water heater which led from outside to inside the walls. In the end I had to basically redo all of his work and diagnose then fix several problems on my own. I eventually got rid of the rodents after a lot of do-it-yourself work. I cannot recommend Avert and I am still waiting to get my $375 back. read more

I called around this morning to get a quote for what I was convinced was a bird trapped in the air duct. Long story short, I hear movement, what sounds like a beak hitting the sides of the duct and occasional cawing. Angelo said he could come by and take a look and the estimate would be free. He gave me a time frame but ended up calling to see if he could show up earlier, which he did. I had to call my landlord to let them know and they had already tried to tell me that there wasn't a bird inside as it cannot get in. I know what I've heard for the past three days which is why I decided to take matters into my own hands when I called Avert. In the end, I basically gave up because the landlord kept insisting it was not possible for a bird to get in and I can't pay for this out of my own pocket to just have them make sure. In the end, my landlord didn't need his services but I am still giving them a 5 star review because Angelo was nice, patient with me while I argued with my landlord, and most of all punctual. I just realized I never wrote a review for Gary - sorry about the delay! We had some strange clumps of dead bugs in various parts of the house that would keep appearing no matter how much cleaning was done. The first two exterminators I called either never answered the phone, never called me back, or requested a ridiculous "assessment fee". Although Gary was extremely busy the day that I called and left a message, he called me back promptly in between jobs and asked me to describe the situation. He asked me if I could text him some photos of the bugs, and later in the day he sent back an info sheet on what he thought was the most likely culprit (Confused Flour Beetles). He also suggested that instead of having him come out and spray, we should try implementing some simple changes in our pantry that could eliminate the problem. We made the changes and guess what...no more piles of beetles. Apparently these beetles get into grocery store cereal boxes and other grain-containing boxes and then you bring them home to your pantry where they can multiply. So in a nutshell Gary solved our problem for free, and guess who we recommend to all of our friends and family for extermination needs? We will not hesitate to call Avert Pest Control the next time we need an exterminator. read more

I should give them 5 Stars for a great Customer service. I didn't get the service that i want because they don't do Bed Bugs. But this guy was so friendly and a cool guy, he even recommend me to another company who do Bed Bug elimination. He said he would love to help me about my problem but they still have to do a training for Bed Bugs. Its okay but at least now i know where to call whenever i have problems other than Bed Bugs. This IS as good as it gets! This is my first Yelp review, and I'm glad it's for Avert and owner Gary. I used Yelp to find a service to remove a dead animal under my house, which was making a horrible and nasty smell, especially in my son's room. This is definitely a situation when you need immediate help. After looking around on Yelp, I called Avert yesterday. Gary answered my call from the ROOF of where he was working. I explained my problem. He was more than willing to come almost immediately, but I was at work in Santa Monica, so I asked for "tomorrow" morning. He said he would be there between 8 & 9 -- he was there at 8:20.... as promised! I told Gary I suspected it was a stray cat that befriended us; he made quick work of the problem, which turned out to be a GIANT dead opossum. He also took the time to check the complete underneath of our home to make sure there was nothing else there and told me that now that the opossum is gone, our stray may come back (which we want to happen). Well worth the price ($175) -- Gary has a great personality (guess you have to for this job!), as well as very informative and professional. We called today, Friday valentine's day, at 345 pm looking for a home visit. We had called another pest control company after their technician was too lazy to go in attic. Gary (I believe the owner) was very nice, honest, and yes he went in the attic with no problem and removed 4 dead rats! (Eww!) he charged us $150 which I thought was reasonable. He threw in a special bag that eliminates odors in case he missed any. Also, went all around the house inspecting for holes where rats are entering and gave us an estimate for rat proofing. We subscribe to Corky's so we called them when we had animals in the attic and garage. They came but only gave recommendations; they wouldn't actually fix the problem of animals getting in. Useless! Called Avert on advice of a neighbor. Gary came out, trapped a possum, built me new crawl space covers and cemented every gap where an animal might get in. His work is guaranteed. We hired him to come out regularly to spray for ants and bugs at half the cost of Corky's. And he's a real nice guy! Can't go wrong with Avert. read more

I called Avert for a rodent problem in our attic. Gary came out and gave me an estimate, set up traps in our attic and under our house. The next day he returned and he successfully trapped a total of 7 rats. Gross!!!! He also secured all of our crawl spaces so that the creatures can't get in. When I discovered that we had a rodent problem in our attic, i called several companies to come out and give me an estimate and a plan of action. Not only we the estimates unbelievably expensive, they were all over the board. i was getting frustrated and confused. Gary (the owner of Avert) was the last appointment I had scheduled and he was the only one that actually showed up on time. He confirmed the rodent problem and gave me two estimates. One was for the rodent removal and the other was for sealing up the entryways. His estimates were quite a bit cheaper than the others so I decided to give him the job. Here where it gets even better! He actually showed me and confirmed how they were getting in and showed me how I could fix the problem myself. Seriously? who does that? I decided I would do that part myself and let him find and remove the rodents. He came back in a few days (exactly when he said he would) and found that he had caught several. I still heard noises so we assumed there were more. I realized i was too busy to secure the entryways myself and decided to have him do that part as well. He came back several times to check the traps. He actually texted every few days to see if I heard anything and if there were any new developments. Who does this? I felt like I had a family friend in the extermination business and he was taking extra good care of me. He eventually found all our unwanted guests and told me to call him if I had amore problems. Used them back on 10/08/11. I live in the foothills of Burbank. Ants were overunning the yard and kitchen. I called in the morning and by 1 pm the job was done. They wiped em out! We had a flea problem due to a cat finding its way in our attic. We sprayed a few things and bombed our office space but nothing seemed to get the fleas out! I had called Avert Environmental Pest control and they came down a hour after i called. Looked at the area and the warehouse. I'm very pleased with Avert. I used them several years ago for a rat problem. They took care of everything from closing up every opening around my house, to setting the traps, and coming back frequently to check them and re-set them until they caught the rats. I called Gary again a few days ago for an ant problem. He was at my house for over 2 hours, sprayed inside and outside and set out some gel bait. He went above and beyond today. He even checked our attic to see if we had rats. He was very reasonable. He is offering a 60 day warranty and will come back to spray again if we see more ants.
