Byron and PestCal Exterminators were referred to me by a realtor/family friend. I contacted PestCal regarding a problem with subterranean termites, to the point where the termites were visibly chewing away at one of the posts of my house. Byron did a thorough inspection and also identified some dry rot issues of the trim of my house in addition to the termite problem. Pestcal has been the company we have relied on for over 10 years for any kind of pest control need. From the time we found a brown recluse spider in our bedroom to discovering we had bird mites. Their customer service is impeccable and I believe that starts from the top. Kevin has done an incredible job with this company and you can tell he takes great pride in the service he provides and maintaining that every member of his company provides the same level of excellence at every position. Our most recent experience with bird mites was such a stressful situation. The field tech, Daniel went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Not only in the service he provided, but especially in the way he communicated with us explaining precisely what was going to be done. He reassured us that the products they used were not only going to be effective but would be safe for our daughter and dog once we returned home. They used to be amazing, but now it's like pulling teeth to get anyone to return a call or email when I see spiders the day after treatment. I'd been with them for apx 3 years, but the past 6 months have been abysmal. They can't keep an appointment window, forget to lock the house, and again, the spray no longer seems to work - and the customer service team has no interest in the customer or service. It was a disappointing decline and I hope whoever used to be in charge either comes back or someone there sees how poorly customers are being treated and does something to rectify. They have fantastic field technicians but not sure about the inspector and overall customer service. Inspector spent a few minutes and told us the quote was $580 and it included follow ups. I checked the invoice and follow ups were an additional $58 monthly for 12months. If you decide you don't want that treatment anymore you have to pay 50% of the remaining months you have left. As for the prep work we have to do and what is included in the monthly follow ups? Not sure, no one shared that with us. It's impossible to get a response over email. If you need to reach them, call them. Did not give detailed instructions on prep that needs to happen before the treatment. Had to call to ask what was actually included as part of the invoice we need to sign and how we need to prep our place. Interesting enough once the invoice was signed we got a call immediately to schedule the spray Also no follow ups after initial treatment... I didn't have a good experience with PestCal. Or more precisely, not much of an experience. Let me elaborate. The technician did not show up at the appointment time to inspect our home for termites. I called them an hour later and they had to contact the inspector. He eventually arrived a few hours late. Things happen, but a courtesy call would've been appreciated. But my low rating isn't just for that alone. The technician looked around and showed me some of the problem areas, with a promise to come back with a quote. It's been about 2 weeks and there hasn't been any communication. Finally, I had another company come out. It turns out that the PestCal inspector completely missed termites in another part of the house. That's probably the most disconcerning part, as the pictures from the second company showed some obvious infestation. (Incidentally, the 2nd company sent a quote within 3 days and finished the entire job in a week). Update: Interestingly enough, 4 hours after posting this review, I get a call from them wanting to talk about my review. At least when it comes to their ratings, they are quick and prompt! read more

Josh and Daniel came out to spray my house today and they were super thorough and informative. They gave me some tips on how to keep the pests out. I decided to do a subscription service with them so that they come out regularly. Unlike other companies, Pascal discounts your first visit if you do a monthly or bimonthly service with them. They also removed any cobwebs and took the time to listen to my concerns so that they can tackle those problem areas more aggressively. Highly recommend! read more

****WARNING**** Pestcal exterminators send thieves to your property when servicing it. During the fumigation time frame, my house was burglarized. In our preliminary meeting, Pestcal requested everyone including pets to be removed from the property for 6 hours during fumigation and remediation. This is a very standard protocol, however, after filing a police report it is VERY common for exterminators to send thieves to the property since the house is completely vacant. Under normal circumstances, my home is NEVER unattended, there is always someone home with the alarm on. This would be the only time, where no one was home, and of course the alarm wasnt on. Police department advise: if and when you need to leave your property for tenting and/or fumigation... "hire a security company to secure your property". Stay safe. Response to Pestcal comment: I have not mistaken the pest control company. Believe me, when I tell you I will never forget which company caused such disruption to my life. The reason you don't have a "record" of me, is because my husband dealt with the pest control contract for our home. It would be quite foolish of him to make the yelp review since you already sent thieves to our home once before. read more

I started using PestCal in 2020 for a rental property I had in Encino. They were great, even handled a rat issue for us at that house. Starting using them again for another rental property in 2022 and things started out great. But now, they have become a nightmare to use. Everything with them is pulling teeth. Their technicians never seem to know what they are doing, which unit to service, inside versus outside treatment, they don't even leave the door tag anymore saying which treatment they've done and when I can return home. Scheduling an appointment is worst than a doctors office! I literally call every appointment to find out which "five hour window" I'm going to given and EVERY TIME they give us the wrong window. A guy showed up at my house today at 9:30am when my appointment was supposed to be between noon and 5pm! He finally showed up and he only did the inside. Even though I REPEATEDLY told him to make sure to do the backyard and remove the spiderwebs. Did he go to the backyard at all?? Nope! No one here can follow BASIC instructions at this point. Look elsewhere for pest control service. This company is a mess and they have zero customer service. read more

Had these guys come and get a bee's nest out less than a year ago and nest just came back. Called them to check out the problem and tech said that warranty is for a year. When I showed him invoice was less he said it was weeks away from a year and wanted to charge me again for what they should have done the first time. Horrible service. read more

No-one wants to be visited by pests, but the reality of it is We live in their world. And when those creepy crawlers cross the line you need a great exterminator. We have been using PestCal Exterminator' s for a few years now. They are extremely professional and nice. They explain the whole process and guarantee their work. Recently we've been visited by the huge Waterbugs aka American cockroach. They are huge, slow and incredibly disgusting and bring a high pitch scream out of me I can't replicate any other time. The PESTCAL EXTERMINATOR employee who visited us explained they generally live in the sewer and plumbing lines and underground. They don't generally come into your home but during drought conditions they are seeking water and tend to find themselves in our homes. (Explains why we kept finding them in our bathroom and outside by hoses). Kind of made me feel a little better knowing it was behavior and not because of cleanliness as I keep a pretty spotless home. Anyway the appointment window was prompt and they were on time. They are clean and professional (we've had some not so great experiences in the past with other companies). I felt comfortable leaving my home in their care. I returned 2 hours later and opened the windows and came back an hour later just to feel safe in my own mind. The employees gave me a hard copy receipt and one month guarantee as well as a texted copy of my receipt. The office provided a follow up call and a free two week follow up appointment to check premise. I've had a few recent sightings (within my month guarantee) just recently and have placed a call for another follow up visit. Seems the parents had babies. .. yikes! But they are coming out to reinspect and spray. I'm confident they will get these creepy crawlers and we'll be back to a bug free home. Great company. Great employees.
