My family and I went here twice today. Once in the late afternoon and another in the evening. I gave them two chances. In the late afternoon, we came strictly for a drink and I figured there wasn't enough staff, so that was the reason we didn't even get greeted for a good 5-7 minutes of hanging at the bar for waiting to order. But, nope. Come time for dinner, we got seated in a darker area, no action, no heat lamps, nothing. I didn't think anything of it until the table next to us got greeted promptly (as we weren't) and even got offered extra cleaning due to Covid. I hate to assume anything due to race, but I couldn't help it. Our server even forgot to take my husbands order and didn't realize it until the end of our meal. So, to say the least.... unless you look like you have a lot of money, then I don't recommend this place. If you're a family or person of color, it was mediocre for the expectations. We tip based on service, and unfortunately, it wasn't even worth the 15% we left. read more

Well, two stars for the beautiful view and a staff that was really trying their best (bless their little hearts). To sum up the rest of our experience: 1. Frozen bread that was "freshly baked" for us three times - each time just a little more thawed out than the last 2. Runny risotto 3. Awful mac and cheese 4. Over priced for the crap food (I honestly don't even think they had an actual chef... It felt more like a college student who was just getting the hang of "cooking" but had somewhat mastered the microwave) and awful service 5. The kicker was the slow service (in a nearly empty restaurant that was clearly over staffed) - when I say they tried I mean they tried but failed horribly. Our waitress even managed to announce my friend's pregnancy to our entire party after being told repeatedly to keep it quiet. I told the hostess in private who then told our waitress... There was some confusion about who needed the virgin drink because our waitress had gotten our drink orders wrong (only one person ordered hers with vodka, intentionally so that it would be easier for us to distinguish, but our waitress thought three of us had vodka drinks). When she brought the drinks out, the virgin drink was just a cup of water so it was pretty obvious. We continued to play it off until our pregnant friend went to the restroom at which point the waitress came over and announced to the entire table that she was told to make her drinks without alcohol! Again, the two of us that knew, tried to cover it up but she continued to insist and even pointed at the empty seat claiming she was to not have alcohol... Like reverse alcoholism and everyone knows but the actual person???!? We were blown away by the lack of logic and complete inability to pick up on social cues. At that point the only thing we could do was laugh - mostly to help our friend through an uncomfortable evening (it's way too early in her pregnancy and they really wanted to wait until they were in the clear before announcing it). Evening ended with us getting a check and dinner chocolates for half of our party. Such a sweet gesture from the runner - would have been really nice if all of us could have had one. I could go on about our waitress and the handful of other hiccups during our experience; however, she seemed to fit in very well with the rest of their team. Unfortunately this place didn't leave a good impression on us. We are staying at the beautiful Monarch beach resort for a work conference. The restaurant was convenient for us. My husband and I came in for lunch today(3/8/19) and waited 45 minutes for our salad and salmon entree. My salad Nicoise was good, however the crust on the Ahi was very spicy. Prompt service with the water and bread but it pretty much stopped there. We wanted to order a dozen oysters but our waiter informed us they were out. As we are waiting for the check to arrive, the table behind us orders two dozens oysters with no problem. I guess their waiter had no problem finding oysters for them. Please train staff to have consistent knowledge of what's available and not. At last our check came and to my surprise we did not receive a plate of macaroons. I was watching everyone receive their checks with a small plate of complementary macaroons. Not us, not sure why. Our $90 lunch at a beautiful resort that we will sadly not return to. read more

I've only had breakfast there four times... people are nice but inexperienced. The food is embarassingly bad. Under cooked or burn't. Best bet if you have breakfast there... stay with uncooked dishes like oatmeal or the fruit plates... there is not much the chef can do to screw up a fruit plate. read more

We had a reservation for 7:45 on Saturday night. We arrived and we were told that because we were 3 minutes late, they gave our table away. The restaurant was not full, so when the host told us he'd have another table for us in 15 minutes we decided to wait and were directed to the bar. 15 minutes came and went, but we had ordered drinks so we stayed and just kept checking with the host, only to be told our table still wasn't ready, but it would be "soon". Waiting at the bar, I noticed the manager going from table to table, apologizing to people for having excessive waits for food, their check, drinks etc. I asked the bartender what was going on, he said he didn't know, but that people at the bar had ordered appetizers over an hour ago and had not gotten them yet. I looked at online reservations for the restaurant, and they were still offering available tables so I booked one for that actual moment and approached the host again. We told him we had booked a new table for right now. He panicked and got the manager, who informed us that we had not been seated because there was an "issue in the kitchen" and NOT because we were a few minutes late. The manager also said that once we were seated, it would likely be over another hour before we would get our food. All the while, more and more people were showing up that had made online reservations. So basically, we were lied to and wasted over an hour waiting for a table, only to then be told that our food would probably never come if we ordered some. We left, due to bad customer service and poor communication. They could of informed us of the issue upon arrival, and based on how long other patrons had already been waiting, they could of contacted us and informed us before our reservation. Instead they blamed us for being late, kept us waiting around to keep us for looking for another place to eat. After we left, I checked online again, and they were still taking reservations for that night. No good. read more

Amazing experience! It was not my first time here, but the already nice food has gotten even better in the time between my visits. The snapper ceviche is delightful - light and refreshing, though probably spicy if you err on the mild side of life. The fish of the day was a Scottish salmon over a Meyer lemon hummus and it was out of this world. The service was truly impressive, though. We were greeted with a smile by Sam, who helped find a table in minutes, and Juan greeted us with a smile from the bar. We were served by Steven, who knew the menu so well he could describe the dishes better than pictures could ever manage. He's very helpful and personable and our whole table enjoyed him. The manager, Mado, came by a couple times just to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and Chef Donald came out as well to introduce himself. It really made our whole table feel special. Chef Donald surprised my mother with a Nutella citrus semifreddo with a red wine berry reduction on top. Delicious. Merrijn came to our table to make sure we were all satisfied, and it just really showed how attentive this staff is. A dinner at Aveo is truly an experience to savor. read more

The St Rwgis remodeled ans AVEO just opened. Today was their first brunch service. Everything was completely on point. The Executive Chef and Exec Sous Chef were out on the floor constantly monitoring the food and presentation. I was impressed. Service was impeccable. Every station was well-tended. The carving station and seafood was excellent. The prickly pear mimosas were so refreshing and the dessert station elevated with crepes suzette, homemade marshmallows, mousse, and an amazing lemon meringue tart...all were in the spirit of the holiday. We met some friends for lunch at the Aveo Table and Bar (it was our Anniversary) and it was a huge disappointment. There is absolutely no ambiance or worthwhile view. The food and service was awful. It took over an hour to get our food (salad, sandwich, burger, fish) then another 45 minutes for 2 desserts (Gelato and Key Lime Pie). Patrons who had been seated after us, had already eaten and left and yet we were still waiting on our food (the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full). The food was bland, dry and/or overcooked. The Burger was like something you'd get from the freezer section at Costco. My Burrata salad w/chicken was a joke for the price. I don't mind paying $$$ for good food, but this was subpar at best. The Turkey sandwich was dry and the Ahi tuna was mediocre. The key lime pie wasn't actually pie, but a small green lime shaped piece of something with a tough exterior. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it open (thick fondant maybe) and then it tasted nothing like key lime pie. We were so disappointed in the food/service that we canceled our dinner reservations we had for later that night. I asked to speak to the manager and he apologized but offered nothing until I said that the least they could have done is take something off the bill (our bill was over $200). He said he would refund the entire lunch which I thought was a very generous gesture. Would not recommend this place if you appreciate good food. We didn't use the bar, so perhaps that's better. Do yourself a favor and head to Salt Creek Grill which is fantastic. read more

Nice ocean, garden and pool view and comfortable seating on a patio. Husband enjoyed his Nutella French toast and I my smoked salmon bagel bites but have to say was disappointed in the service. $20 for bottomless mimosa with choice of juices is a nice offer but don't seat people soon before you close then cut them off without warning at 2:30pm. And don't balk at a request for different juices if that is what you offer! I understand having set hours but servers should let you know it's last round or better yet, continue to serve your remaining customers even after "closing". I got two flutes of champagne at most. Not to mention when we left the restaurant was still full of people. That was a little off-putting. This is a 5 star diamond resort and people pay top dollar to eat/stay here so give 5 star service if you want people to return. Living not far away (Newport Beach) with many top rate dining choices nearby we probably won't come back. Pelican Grill has the exact same view, is more elegant and with a classier, more helpful resort staff I think. Our valet was sweet. read more

I wanted to plan a special day with my Beautiful Fiancé. I am a local resident of Dana Point and thought it would be a nice surprise to take her to Brunch at Aveo located in the Monarch Beach resort. The grounds are beautiful and we reserved a patio table with a Ocean View. We were celebrating a long weekend with no kids in tow. We have 4 combined. Was quite a treat to have some alone time as we had notified the staff. I decided that I would upgrade us to the higher end Champagne Brunch at $125 per person. The food selections I must say were incredible. We steered towards their Seafood offerings and also the carving board and great Prime Rib. We were taking out time and just enjoying the late morning Brunch and the Champagne was flowing. This would have been a 5 star review if wasn't for the Service issues we encountered. First off I am not the type that will generally complain or even post a review. This time I felt I must. Our server made a comment to Fiancé that we must really be thirsty after requesting another bottle of Champagne. (Which would have been #2 and keep in mind the bottles they brought had some poured out already with other guests it appeared). We were both taken back by this young servers comments and I decided to let it slide. Well about the time we decided to ask for the bill to check out the same server also decided to ask if we would like some Champagne for the Road? This now turned into a WTF moment and I called the manager over to complain. It did not seem to even register to the Bar manager and left us with a very bad taste in our mouth for the Monarch Beach resort. We do not get much free time alone without kids and I want to have 2 bottles of Champagne or 10 I don't need comments. Who knows they may have booked a room in addition that night with us. We will not be going back anytime soon and will opt to visit the RITZ CARLTON down the street on our next outing. Cheers! read more

First time I ever stood up from a table and left a restaurant due to sheer incompetence and lack of managerial experience. After 1 hour of waiting for our order, the main meal comes out, and when we asked where the appetizers are... shit show happens. Explanation was that the servers transferred our table and the a "miscommunication " occurred. I can understand that, but even the main course was wrong and the manager forgot the magic word "sorry"! Shafari the manager reiterated that there was a miscommunication. Lol, I get that so tell me when you were going to at least feel any remorse or apologetic, rather than making your guests feel awakened as if we "miscommunicated" our order? Stayed in the resort for Labor Day weekend and had dinner at AVEO. It was the absolute highlight of our trip! Nick our waiter was so funny and personable. We felt so well taken care of. As a vegan I was surprised and delighted to hear that they have a separate vegan menu. I was torn between two entrees so I asked Nick to have the chef choose whichever dish he felt was best. 15mins later, the chef personally delivered my meal to my table (it was the eggplant dish). It was phenomenal! I was also treated to not one but two delicious bread baskets. I had the sourdough baguette, as well as the gluten free bread which was honestly the best gluten free bread I've ever had. Thank you for the wonderful experience! read more

This is our first time back since the remodel and we are extremely disappointed. We were expecting the same amazing St Regis brunch. But instead we got warmed up frozen waffles, no sushi, nothing! They had the crab claws, shrimp and prime rib (which was good) but what made this brunch so spectacular was the 100 topping waffle pancake bar, the risotto station, the Chinese food, the pastries were endless, there was everything you could imagine! They raised the prices and have less options now and not to mention the wait staff is less experienced. We saw our waitress roaming around but she never came to our table for the about the last 30 minutes. We were asked to leave because there is a 2 hour maximum and we told the hottest we would love to but we haven't seen our waitress in 30 minutes. Needless to say someone else brought us our bill. I'm so confused by the bad and mediocre reviews. Just had breakfast here and everything was amazing. Our server was friendly and helpful with questions we had about the menu. I recommend the 'toast' with the egg and prosciutto, really delicious. The french toast was definitely the best I've had and the salmon rillettes were creative and very satisfying. Went on a weekday evening. The experience was okay - but not in line with the prices. The restaurant was empty. I had the fish special - bronzino. The fish was tasty, the vegetables underneath were totally forgettable. I have more culinary creativity when I cook at home - and that is a 'ha ha'. My friend had the pasta dish from the menu - it was okay. The view of the ocean was nice. It looked to me like the interior of the restaurant has not been updated since the place was built. This was the best brunch buffet in OC for years. With the new changes I can sum it up in two words : SUB PAR.. I suggest you don't bother going and if you do, don't expect it to be like it was. The price has greatly increased and the offering has greatly decreased. Trying to get a reservation should have clued me in that I didn't need to go. I've been coming for over a decade - with huge groups and never an issue. The best food EVER. We screwed around with the reservation desk for 2 weeks. They actually cancelled our reservation time and said their brunch is now at noon - newsflash people - that's called lunch. I won't continue with the rest of the story but the place was empty. Looked like a cafeteria and after seeing the horrible changes to the buffet, I should have left. You might look at the menu online and see paella - don't get excited. It's not there. I don't know what food they have outside .. I didn't bother looking. It wasn't paella or any of the other awesome food they used to offer. This brunch has been utterly and completely downsized and ruined. What an insult to charge more and put us through 20+ phone calls with different people for this. Don't get me started on the remodel. Let's just say I don't think it's an improvement. But it doesn't matter, after so many years of coming here - I will not be back. read more

I recently experienced a nice outdoor dinner at Aveo and I coudn't be more impressed. Sheifali and her staff were refilling our drinks before we even had a chance to ask for the next round. Given that half our party was vegetarian, the chef was able to prepare some off the menu dishes for us that were absolutely phenomenal. The mushroom ravioli would keep you begging for more and the eggplant Parmesan melted in your mouth one layer at a time. I would highly recommend a dinner date at this restaurant as the service and food are well worth it. read more

Signature cocktails were terrible and we sent them back. The food, when it arrived, was barely competent for a five star hotel. We're locals and came in for dinner for the first time a few weeks ago. I don't always request a vegan meal because I don't want to be a pain in the ass but also because many chefs can't or won't. Our server said the chef likes a challenge and he would see what he could do. The chef delivered an amazing vegan dish off the menu. Lots of vegetables (yummy cheeze) and creativity. Big kudos.
