Went here for lunch yesterday. Restaurant went for "cool vibe" in its layout and decor and did a nice job on that front. Waiter approached quickly and took drink order. My lady drank ice water - I drank their brewed iced tea. We ordered the fried chicken fingers appetizer to share. Hearty portion - too much for one person. They put BBQ sauce on the plate to use as a dip. They have other choices if you ask. My lady liked it - to me it fell apart when I cut it. My lady got a side Caesar salad and a small plain pizza. I got the small Caesar with grilled shrimp. We disagreed on the Caesar as she liked it and I found it so-so at best due to the dressing. Unlike any I had before. Some of these New American restaurants seem to want to be so NEW they lose the fact of what the original food item is all about. At least the lettuce was fresh. The grilled shrimp was nice in size. A little too salty for my taste but overall it was good. One thing we agreed on was the pizza. It was terrible. To think, one of this areas best pizzerias is only minutes away - Ravenessi - this pizza could get arrested for posing as real pizza when it wasn't. I went here when they first opened to support a new business. Although they were going through the typical opening learnings, the food and service were good. I've not been back until last night and can't tell you how disappointed I was. I should have been clued in when we were able to get a table for 7:30 the same night when all other restaurants had nothing. We had a wedge salad and the presentation was very nice, but the salad dressing had no flavor. Then there was the cioppino. A classic seafood stew with a little bit of everything from the sea. Shrimp, scallops , clams, mussels, and crab meat in a light, flavorful broth. Sadly what I received was a bowl with a little bit of sauce, not broth, and on it 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a hand full of mussels. On the side were 2 slices of bread. Very expensive at $32 for what it was and what it was, was not a cioppino. The atmosphere was OK but the lighting was bad. To bright for evening. On a positive note, our server Grace was very good. They have a GREAT happy hour (better than Harvest next door if you ask me) We first tried here for their fried chicken which was delicious and have kept coming back. Some of our favorites include the: stuffed dates and baked goat cheese apps, kale goat cheese salad, pear and blue cheese salad. The short rib grilled cheese was flavorful, but a bit too greasy for my liking. Breakfast here was ok, have certainly had better (hotter, more exciting menu, etc) but overall a B rating. Have been completely satisfied with all of the cocktails as well. I usually ask for recommendations, but they are made to order and have not been lead wrong. read more

This review is for breakfast/brunch. I wanted to love this super cute spot, but found it lacking. I took my in laws here for brunch. Sunday at 9:30, it was almost empty. Menu looked great- I ordered the eggs Benedict. When the food came out it looked so good but 2 of our dishes were cold, 1 was dry, and the other was avocado toast (you can't mess that up!) our service was also slow and our waitress seemed pretty "blah" about being there. Our bill was about $100 for the 4 of us (just coffees and a meal) which is a little overpriced for the quality of our meal. Disappointing experience today when my wife and kids tried this restaurant with a $100 gift card we received from friends a couple years ago who I believe chose this restaurant because they know the owner. When the card did not show as "authorized" we were asked to pay the bill and return at later date to work through the issue. This is what we did and unfortunate that this was the way the staff addressed the issue. My daughter works at a another restaurant and commented to me that their policy is to honor the card with the assumption that it was a mistake on their part. It would have been nice if the staff took our phone number to have mgmt follow up with us. I wish my friends had provided the receipt with the card ... but that's not really the issue and would never want those who work for me to not be able to address this situation in a better manner. read more

I've read some of the other reviews and a consistent theme of complaints was noise level and portion size. I actually disagree to an extent with both. This restaurant is more on the scale of finer dining for the area, where you pay for the quality of food with smaller portions. I actually dislike when I get a portion the size of two meals as it ends up being waste. Noise level, yes it was loud, but it's bc of the ceilings. It wouldn't deter me from going back. I'm giving the restaurant my rating strictly based on food as the service was decent. I think this place has potential with the items on the menu. American with a twist and everything on the Menu looked appealing. The downfall is the actual taste of the food as it lacks the flavor potential due to a heavy hand of oil. The scallops tasted good, but a little salty. The quinoa was way too oily. The roasted vegetables again heavy on the oil. Short rib grilled cheese, the short rib was dry. Fries good, but a lot of salt. The tuna entree - could have been a better grade tuna for $30 and a bit bland. The soba noodles also seemed a bit heavy on the oil. Dessert we had the apple cider donuts which were good especially if you like a heavy hand with cinnamon. I think the atmosphere and location is good for the area. And while I wasn't completely wowed, I'd try this again. read more

I've been here about three times now, twice for brunch and once for "happy hour." I love it. Parking is easy and the ambience is very casual and relaxing. The food and drinks are delicious but for the price, the portions are very small. The brunch portions are great! The chicken and waffles are delicious. For lunch/dinner, I had two apps. After looking for a new breakfast spot on a Sunday this place came up on google. I never knew it was there, passed it lots of times in the strip mall. The interior is decorated farm house glam, wooden decor with sparkly accents. Our server was very nice. The place was busy, which speaks well for a restaurant. Let's talk food. My sons pancakes were fine. On the dry side. Definitely needed butter on top, which we had to ask for. I was happy to find Latkes on the menu, because you don't see that around here too often. I was not happy however with the food item that came out. The latke were sooo over fried that there was no remnants of potatoes left on the plate. Pure dark brown fried disc with an egg. I asked the waitress if this was typical for the latke and she said yes. I ordered a breakfast sandwich so that I could actually eat something before leaving. That was very good. I was kinda surprised that they charged me for the inedible latke plate. But whatever, it's hard times for food service and I don't mind paying. Came here for brunch. The Creme brûlée waffle is very good. However this place is pricey with small portions. Paid 6 dollars for a side of potatoes and there was probably 8 pieces on the plate. Popped in a few Saturday's ago around 11:30. It was busy but not at the height of breakfast. Got seated quickly at a small table (that wobbled) that was so close to the next table I could literally touch the guys arm. As if the closeness wasn't bad enough, these guys were so loud my husband and I couldn't talk without yelling. Alright, it is what it is, but we then had to wave down someone after almost 10 minutes to just take our order. We each got a coffee, I got a Short stack of pancakes (comes with nothing) so added strawberries and ham (extra cost, no problem). My husband ordered the eggs, toast, potatoes breakfast type of meal, added bacon, asked for it crispy. My short stack was 2 pancakes, the size you make at home, the Canadian ham was 2 thin circles on a plate, but the best was my $3.00 strawberries add-on were, no lie, 1 and a half strawberries cut into slices and placed on top. Really? No butter, had to ask, and a tiny, tiny little side of syrup, (portion controlled) not even enough to cover the very small 'stack' of pancakes! My husbands bacon was so undercooked it could wave in the wind. Everything tasted fine, server was pleasant and I completely understand costs have risen, but $40.00 later and still hungry, come on. Avenue, rethink that pancake size and for God's sake, if you're going to charge extra for toppings, give people an actual serving, not a berry and a half. Times are tough for all of us and supporting businesses is important, but that was ridiculous. My advice... don't go here hungry, and save a little extra to cover the bill. read more

I've been visiting this restaurant for some time now. I've eaten there at least 10 times. When it first opened, their roasted chicken was outstanding. It's been missing from menu for a long time. The service is mediocre at best with one bright exception, Cole (bartender). She is amazing, professional, sweet and engaging! I used to love the garlic hummus but the pita has been beyond stale the past several times. I typically order a burger since they took the roasted chicken off the menu. It has never been cooked to my preference of well done. It's been rare or medium rare or medium. I actually stopped going to this restaurant months ago. I returned and it's the same. The consultant that was on staff did nothing to improve food or service. They were too busy engaging with younger women and showering them with compliments. It was quite a show and not necessary or professional. It has a modern atmosphere as many have stated. I'd go for a drink and then head over to Harvest or Not Your Average Joe's or Whole Food's to eat. It is unfortunate. I feel Avenue Kitchen had great potential that it simply never reached and now is mediocre to bad. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER AT ANY RESTAURANT! We made a RESERVATION for a party of 12 almost a week ahead of time for Mother's Day Brunch. Eric, the waiter/manager who answered the phone said they could not do 11:00am, but would be able to accommodate us at 10:45am. We all arrived on time, but it was over 20 minutes until someone even came to say hello to us. My wife sought out Eric, who informed her that they did not have our table. Yet half the tables were empty and it was clear that they did not properly plan to have our party at a table. My wife showed him the text and email confirmations, but he tried to have a stare down with her and then pretended she was not there. His excuse was that they had to accommodate walk ins over our reservation. He said a reservation does NOT guarantee a table. So she asked "What's the point of a reservation?". Eric was rude and stared back moronically. He should be fired immediately for ruining Mother's Day for the 4 mom's in our party, who are all doctors taking their first day off in a long time. It's sad because we all like the sister restaurant, Harvest. read more

Upon entering we were greeted by no one, along with a 5 or so minute wait until the hostess arrived only to seat the people who had entered behind us first. Keep in mind we had a reservation. Service was rushed at first and within the first 10 minutes of sitting down we had been asked twice if we were ready and then had rarely seen our waitress (also the hostess) throughout the rest of the meal. At one point we had to ask another tables waitress for maple syrup. The wait staff occasionally shot dirty looks at us for being underdressed when they said nothing of the dress code on the website. So, my wife and I had really stopped coming here for the most part over the past year. The biggest reason is the amazingly poor and super slow service. Recently we stopped in for take out which wasnt so bad. So, yesterday we decided to give it another try, hoping that time might have corrected issues. Surprisingly, they are even worse. My wife ordered the eggs breakfast and a bowl of fresh fruit. I had the shrimp appetizer and chicken sandwich. Shrimp was good. Eggs were ok. It took about 30-40 minutes to get food. Super slow. Even getting drinks was like pulling teeth. Then, the incident that raised my blood pressure a tad. I got my chicken sandwich, cut into it...it was raw in the middle...not just slightly undercooked...RAW! When I pointed it out the hostess took the chicken. (waitress was nowhere to be found) She was going to have them recook that piece of chicken. Are you kidding me? Um..No thank you! I asked for them to just take it off my bill. Then the manager (or owner) came out and she asked if they could recook that, even send it home as "leftovers" because, QUOTE "I'd hate to waste that piece of food" REALLY?! Maybe cook it right the first time. Maybe an undercooked burger you can get away with that...RAW CHICKEN...you can get someone seriously ill or worse. I asked her again to take it off, told her if I would not trust their cookery of the chicken at this point. She reluctantly agreed to take off the charge. Then, finally the waitress makes an appearance to bring us the check. Check comes with the chicken still on the tab. She goes to the back and comes back out and apologizes and said..."Sorry, I didn't know about the chicken" She's right, she didnt...because she hadnt come back to check on our table since taking our order. Needless to say this is that absolute last time I go to this restaurant. Recook the chicken? dont want to waste it? How cheap is the ownership that they wouldnt scrap a miscooked chicken breast? Never offered to make a new sandwich. Never asked if there was something they could substitute. Her main interest was saving that raw meat. Meat that had been cut through and if recooked would have been dry and with all the sauce on the crusting would have been horrible to eat. Too bad...Too bad...its a cute place with promise. I have eaten here for beeaksfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is to die for. I dream about their pancakes and creme brûlée waffle and it never disappoints. I would wait hours if I had to in order to enjoy those. Been to many places for breakfast and no where can compare. I even asked how they make them to duplicate them at home and they graciously gave me their secret but it still doesn't compare. Their lunch and dinner menus are the same but the selection they have for both is great! I can't leave out their cocktails and deserts! Their homemade key lime pie and doughnuts are heaven! We went there to try the brunch, the menu looked great. We knew from other reviews that service and the pizza are not their best of qualities. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and bacon. The other order was scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Let me just start off by saying that the eggs were the color of a yellow highlighter and then in some spots esp. on my breakfast sandwich were GREY. Eggs should not be grey nor rubber looking. The bacon for the second order came out on a plate full of grease.I took a picture but cannot attach to this review. The only thing good about this meal was the lemonade. Wanted us to sit by entrance when other tables were empty.My husband told her this service was unacceptable.He asked for the manager and she stated she was the manager. Her attitude was horrid. Been trying to support this local restaurant with referrals and eating at the establishment. It's got great decor and I wanted to love this place. But they still don't have a good turn around, and food quality keeps going downhill. I'm pregnant with my first baby and am super cautious about what I eat. Checked with waitress that meal my husband and I ordered was pregnancy friendly, she agreed. I then go to have a bite of my husbands pizza and get a chunk of plastic that's been cooked into the pizza. Waitress spoke to the chef, and he said it must of fallen off one of their plastic ingredient storage container. Super toxic to eat heated plastic!! So so annoyed! Waitress apologized and gave us a wine voucher each (yes, I did mention I was pregnant). It would be unfair to presume that all their meals are mishandled. However, based on my last experience the restaurant was near empty and more care should of been taken when preparing and handling our meals. On my prior visit, my sister and I ordered just coffee, a sandwich and their creme brûlée waffle. Even though they were empty, the waitress went out the back to help prepare our meals.
