Great food,but incompetent and unfriendly wait staff. They act like they could not be bothered

Let me start by saying we've been going there for years, when I first moved to PA my wife took me to Sage diner this was 9 years ago or so. We used to go there pretty often but not as much now. The food was really good about 7 years back (not sure what changed) but recently it's like they either swapped the recipes or something happened. The service is warm and welcoming, they treat you like you're part of the family, have never had problems with service there. And the place actually looks pretty kept up, it's not 100% perfect but it is cozy and nice. Overall if you're hungry and need to stop somewhere for a quick bite, this place has big portions and pretty decent pricing, the food is decent as well. Scrapple, egg and cheese on toast. I took pictures and video so I felt obligated to make a longer video. It came with home fries. Very good well done home fries. It was a big piece of scrapple. It was $11.49. I'm a Sage Diner fan but that felt a touch high. I would rate this diner less than a 1/10 stars if it were possible, but Yelp doesn't let me. I went here with my dad for breakfast, and both of our coffee mugs had a bright blue "disinfectant" on the inside of the mugs. As my dad and I were paying for our breakfast we mentioned the bright blue substance on the inside of the mugs and the cashier responded with a very mundane, nonchalant response, "Yeah, we've been trying to get that off." When I asked what it was, she said it was "just a disinfectant that we use to clean the mugs." She did nothing to mention to any other staff to do anything about the disinfectant on the dishes, she still charged us for the two coffees, they did not care what so ever that they made us pay for coffee with disinfectant in it, and just continued with their day. I go to plenty of diners plenty often and I am very generous on quality but this just crosses the line. It's not that we got disinfectant in our coffee, it's that when we told them about it they did absolutely not care and did absolutely nothing to ensure nobody else got the same or reimburse us like plenty of other diners have no problem doing. Never going back even if starving I think I'd rather deal with the stomach ache of hunger rather than how that coffee made my stomach feel. read more

Order three breakfast sandwiches came up to almost $50. Included home fries, which had no salt, no pepper, no onions, no green peppers. Very expensive for one of the mill diner. Seems like a clean place, just not for my type of people. Was very unhappy. With the price of my order and the service. Sage is one of my favorite diners!! At all time... the food is very tasty they have like almost everything on the menu... The service it very fast and as soon as you come through the door the people smile, greets you to your table.. And you can sit at the bar or sit in a booth or table.... I NEVER had a problem with sage diner... and they are not that expensive too!!! And it is really not that crowded... So if you want to sit and eat hear's the place for you!!! read more

This is an average diner stop. The service is friendly and accommodating and the coffee hot. The French onion soup was very good with a nice balance of saltiness in the broth and cheese. I was a little disappointed with the Key West salad as it didn't have much flavor despite the good mixture of vegetables. The amount of protein was also a little low for the price. When you order a sandwich they ask if you want pickles and coleslaw . I always say yes and almost never check and or get them. I checked today. Went back in to get it since they didn't include it like I asked. Instead of giving me two containers, they shoved two pickle slices on top of the coleslaw. I mean, really. They used to give you a chunk of pickle. Then they switched to a small container of coleslaw and of pickle slices. So do they now just shove two slices in with the coleslaw? Why offer it at all? Just totally poor service. Ordered carry out. Was not ready at the stated time. Took an extra 20 minutes. The order was siting there and was told we were waiting on French fries so they didn't get soggy. Everything was ice cold except for the piping hot French fries. So poorly run. read more

Well, this is one of those times when I'm glad I tried a restaurant despite having several people tell me it was awful. My husband and I had a great lunch at Sage recently. The service was wonderful - both the hostess and our waitress were really nice and perfectly attentive. The food was great. We both opted for lunch specials - I had the cheesesteak pita which was sooo good, and the hubs had the open faced corned beef sandwich. Both came with a cup of soup (the tomato rice soup was really good and but very filling) fries or chips, and a pickle, and costed about nine bucks. We both enjoyed everything and we were in and out in less than an hour. Overall, a perfect lunch! Definitely recommend and will be going again. read more

On a snowy cold Sunday came across the Sage diner and based on the looks of the place and the reviews, decided to give it a try. Must admit as far as diners go ( I've been to many) I was disappointed at this one. Service was so-so and the food left a lot to be desired. I actually left over half of my roast chicken and stuffing dinner. Place was clean and it seemed to have a fair amount of patrons for a snowy Sunday evening but next time I'll pass. We were looking for a new breakfast place and drove past here a few times. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The best bacon ever..not greasy or overcooked, plates are full of food, so wear your stretchy pants. Boots are great for people with short legs. Your feet actually touch the floor. A few notes you can bring your own coffee with you ( I prefer wawa most times if a place doesn't have French vanilla creamer), and this place is like so many others who are starting to charge customers a percentage for using credit or debit cards so bring cash or pay 3.5 % read more

I believe this place is owned by marsh road diner owners and hoe salty just go the extra mile to marsh road diner. Last time I went there were shells in the eggs, the bacon was super salty, it was outrageously loud and service was super slow. Definitely don't recommend as there are better spots in the area for the same type of diner food. read more

Very friendly, spacious place with plenty of variety on the menu. Prices seemed just a bit pricey, but portions & quality are both great! We enjoyed a burger and a steak / shrimp special and were both very impressed with them. The kids had more generic fare, but again - no complaints with anything that came to our table. Service wasn't the best or fastest, however our waitress seemed new(ish). Her friendliness more than compensated for her inexperience. Our bill for two adults and three children came to $70; on-par with diner prices, but certainly above-par for diner food. All said, we enjoyed our sage experience, and will certainly return when we're back in the area. read more

Great little diner. I had cream shipped beef on toast with honey fries. Yummy. And wife had a breakfast skillet with several modifications. They nailed it and it was very tasty. I came here because of the great reviews. I picked up some French toast and pancake for breakfast, and they were so bland. Nobody ate breakfast that day. My son asked if we could get McDonald's pancakes instead, but they were already in the lunch menu. Not to mention that the French toast and pancakes with sausage cost me $26!!!!. That was the first and last time I will be there. It's a shame because I try and patronize the small businesses, but this is too much. I ordered the Tuscany chicken wrap. It was the greasiest thing I have ever eaten. There was literally a puddle of grease on my plate. The tortilla was undercooked and gummy. The chicken was bland. First visit. Was very good and attentative wait staff. Had London Broil dinner mashed potatoes and broccoli. London Broil was tender and flavorful. Mash a little dry but then I had no gravey or butter seated with them, so maybe it was a allowance in kitchen they would normally be. But I did use the au jus to thin so all good. I've been here in the past and always found it to be decent for a diner. Had the open faced turkey sandwich and it was ok, but the gravy was pasty and awful. The salad had a foreign in object in that I almost biting into it. I'm assuming it was the manager whom came over took a look at it first then he just got the waitress to apologize. Instead of comping the meal the just offered 10% off the check or a free dessert. I've been other business for 30 years, you always comp there item if there is a foreign object in it. My dad and I decided to come here for dinner on a weekday. I always get a little nervous going into a diner because when a place has many, many things on a menu, its rare that they can do all of it well. Sage Diner didn't disappoint. First of all, they have a huge menu with a varied selection of items and they are open 24 hours! We split coconut shrimp as an appetizer which was good. My dad got a crab melt that he said was really tasty and I got a tilapia dish ( I forget the actual name) but it came in a white wine sauce with basil and roasted peppers. The meal also came with a soap/salad and a dessert. So I got the ceasar salad which was very good, more than just a bowl of lettuce with some dressing and rice pudding for dessert. I have been to more diners than restaurants in my many years. Different states all over the US. I've been to Sage a handful of times, mostly for breakfast. If you go to a place which calls itself a dine, they better do a good breakfast. At Sage I have experienced "scrambled eggs" that looked like an omelet and brown. An omelet that was so dry you had that I had to use a knife. Pancakes so dry I had to keep drinking fluids to get them down. Bacon and pork roll was cooked well, fries good, home fries bland.
