***3 1/2 stars*** Without even going inside this place, I could tell that an ideal experience probably centers around a few margaritas after work. I came DURING work at lunchtime this past Thursday and had a water, so keep in mind I didn't have some of their biggest selling points. That said, this was still perfectly fine as far as it goes. I work next door at Penn 1, so this is literally a 30 second walk for me. In warmer weather, the clientele seems to be a healthy mix of both tourists (which makes sense given its proximity to MSG/Penn Station) and office workers. There's a pleasant outdoor area that butts up against the plaza we use when it's not wall-to-wall brown piles of snow, but in late February it wasn't possible to take advantage of that. When I walked in, I made myself comfortable at the bar, which had a great lighting/window situation going on - felt like an atrium or greenhouse almost, though I imagine that's often contingent on the sun situation outside. This was a pretty no-frills situation. I ordered chicken quesadillas and requested they hold the sour cream. The food showed up in about 10 minutes or so, which I think is very reasonable - the restaurant overall seemed quiet and the bar was otherwise empty, so there wasn't an obvious reason for a wait time, but thankfully that was moot. As you can see from the attached, it was a large portion and had solid presentation value. I ate two of the quesadillas while I was there, took the last two to go, and may have accidentally consumed a third as a late afternoon snack. Not bad; the cheese was a little rubbery and the chicken a bit dry; nothing egregious, but the accompanying chipotle sauce was definitely needed. The tortilla itself was arguably the high point here - nice and crisp, and had a little seasoning to it. The service was decent. Again, turnaround time was very good, and the bartender/waitress (Diana, I believe) was hospitable and pleasant. When the bill came, it included an edgy postcard that I'm 100% utilizing in the future, my concerns about the USPS notwithstanding. She also handed me a card with a QR code to write a review, not knowing she was in the presence of someone who literally does that at every opportunity. This type of overture can kind of play both ways - I don't like situations where someone is not-so-subtly urging me to shoot them a positive review - but I thought this struck the right balance where she was just giving me the forum to send some feedback. Noted and done. I'd come back, especially given how conveniently located it is for me on the weekdays. But it's probably an overall better experience if I wait for the end of the workday. read more

This place is nearby where I work and decided to check them out for their happy hour specials which is M-F 11AM to 6PM. We started out with drinks and our waiter recommended the mango margarita which turned out to be really good. My friend got Modelo. For food we got the wings and tacos. Wings were really good but not spicy at all and the tacos were ok. For happy hour prices it is a bit higher than other places and apparently if you sit at the rooftop there's a fee for it. Solid lunch experience. Visited for a second time with my coworkers because it's close to our job. Love that they have a long happy hour. It's from mon-fri 11am-6pm! They have Margaritas, Pina Colada, Mimosa, Bloody Mary and such. For brunch, we decided to try their burger, breakfast burrito and a French toast. Absolutely not. Made a reservation for 6 at 3pm on a Sunday and we were immediately sat which is nice. I understand switching shifts but we had 3 different servers within the 17 mins we were there. Immediately I was turned off by my water glass' rim being covered in lipstick. The glass was replaced but then we noticed the water carafes had hair in them. Those were replaced and our drinks came out. Two of the drinks dropped also had hair in the them. Disgusting. We are vegetarian and the vegetarian options at this location were really lacking. They had like 4 items they could make vegetarian- Nachos, a taco salad, salsa and guac and some potato tacos. The taco needed some seasoning, they tasted like boiled potato slapped on a taco without salt or spice. The drinks were ok, we ordered a mango margarita and a spicy margarita, neither had anything special and tasted just ok. We also ordered a chocoflan which had way tooooo much whipped cream but I did like the chocolate cake flan combo it was interesting. So many great things to say about this beautiful brunch spot! First for most, the waitress was super sweet & even the host was absolutely amazing! The host invited me to shots on her! The waitress knew the menu down to the tea which is a service of 10/10 because she knew exactly what she was talking about. Food, I ordered an avocado toast & my partner had ordered huevo ranchero. But it wasn't just any avocado toast or any huevo ranchero. The avocado toast had such good flavor to it with a little bit a lime in it. The bread was a pretty decent size with cherry tomatoes on the bread. It was also very soft. I had a little bit of salad on the plate which I loved. My partner had huevo ranchero, with a soft tortilla. The egg was cooked perfectly for the yolk to spread with the sauce of the ranchero. She also had some avocado & beans blended on the plate. It gave it an amazing touch to everything on the dish. Food was a 10/10!! Drinks we had mimosas of course, & spicy margaritas. It was too spicy, so didn't like but waitress said she would change it for me which was so sweet of her. Ambiance was such a vibe! I loved how they had more than the quintessential bottomless brunch drinks (mimosas, bloody mary's) such as piña coladas and margs. It's $24.99 for the bottomless aspect and you pay for your entree so the pricing isn't bad. I got the avocado toast with poached egg (+$3) and to honest, I was shocked by how small the avocado toast was. It was smaller than the egg which filled up the majority of the plate and not filling at all. It was definitely the smallest avocado toast I've ever had and will probably ever have in my lifetime. However, the drinks were great, satisfyingly strong, and the staff came back frequently to ask if we wanted refills. Avenida at Penn Plaza in New York City quickly became one of the standout piña colada stops on my tour of Manhattan. They've got a massive pre-mix machine that churns out piña coladas with surprisingly incredible flavour--refreshing, smooth, and perfectly blended. What really set this place apart, though, was the fantastic service and genuinely friendly people. I found myself coming back multiple times throughout my trip. Their sister restaurant, The Rutherford, has a more Irish flair to the name, and they also offer both the piña colada and margarita mixers. Came for their Sunday brunch and what a nice vibe it was. As soon as we entered we heard some great music giving it a tropical feel. It felt like I had stepped onto a cruise ship or island. I am use to huevos rancheros having crispy tortillas and all the fix-ins but this was just 3 soft tortillas covered with refried beans, tomato sauce and the eggs of course. While still good, was just not expecting it. Someone in my party opted for the tres leche French toast and I had to try a piece. It was so delicious! I loved how fluffy it was yet had a nice sear on the bread. And of course the tasty tres leche you can't go wrong. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was nice, good music/dj. The decor was pretty and the view was gorgeous. The bottomless drinks were good quality and our waiter was mostly attentive and made sure our drinks stayed full. However, the food should have been yummier given the hype and price. (Taco salad) It was honestly subpar at best and not that flavorful, and food normally tastes better the drunker you get. What really soured the experience was the host came to give us our 5 minute warning (which btw it should be 10-15 minutes). But she did it in an unpleasant, inhospitable manner. "You guys changed your tables and that cut into your time, and made us do extra work." Like nobody wants to be sweating all over their food in scorching sun. The attitude and tone she gave my friend was honestly very extra and disrespectful. Which at that point, we didn't get our check yet, no to-go boxes, or anything to prepare us for departure. I understand hospitality isn't an easy profession but good service is the bare minimum, we still tipped 20% anyway because our waiter was mostly nice.
