What a vibe it is at the Frying Pan. It feels like the kind of place that's essential to visit at least once during the summer. The space is huge and organized nicely. You order at the bar and they'll bring your food to you. There's no bad seat in the house! They had at least one private event happening when I visited, and it really does seem like a great location for a party. The fish and chips were nicely fried and I enjoyed a Paloma with my meal! The Frying Pan is one of those NYC spots where the setting is really part of the experience. Located on the Hudson at Pier 66 near 26th Street, it's a boat and dock complex with tons of outdoor seating and fantastic waterfront views. We chose the Sun Deck, which has big blue triangular shade sails overhead. They don't completely cover the area, but we were able to find enough shade to keep comfortable. Mom thought ahead and brought my cooling mat, which was perfect for a sunny summer afternoon. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas, and I was able to hang out right beside my humans. There wasn't a dog menu and we weren't offered a water bowl, so I'd recommend bringing your own water bottle --especially on a hot day. For lunch, mom had the summer lobster roll, which was fresh, loaded with lobster and disappeared embarrassingly quickly. Dad ordered the fish and chips and was considerably more generous with his fish. I enthusiastically approved of the few bites I received. Mom also tried the summer sangria with mango and blueberries, while Dad had a Stella. Sitting on the water with a drink, lunch and the NYC skyline around you is pretty hard to beat. This isn't necessarily a place I'd choose specifically for dog amenities, but it's a fantastic NYC experience that you can bring your dog along for, which earns major points in my book. Dogba's Verdict Apparently we are now yacht people. Waterfront table? BYO Cooling mat? Fish & chips samples? Lobster roll samples? I would like the record to show that Mom ate an ENTIRE lobster roll directly in front of me and offered absolutely nothing. Tried this place on Wednesday evening as a recommendation from a friend. It was packed around 5pm, it's best to secure a reservation as majority of left side has reserved tables only. We were able to sit at 'first come-first served' table on the other side after waiting and wondering around trying to see where next non-reserved table might free up. It was hot out and the breeze from water was definitely nice. The boat itself is a unique idea for a restaurant. Atmosphere is very casual, mixed crowd. We ordered & paid for food and drinks at the counter and picked it up after buzzer went off, but they do clean up tables in a timely manner, moving finished dishes and plates out the way. Both lobster rolls and steak sandwich we tried were fresh and delicious, fried calamari ended up being soggy unfortunately. Sangria and aperol spritz tasted good and refreshing. Tried this place for the first time. While the host seems confused the location is beautiful. Went on a very warm day but sat on the top floor and it was breezy enough to enjoy the weather and food. I had the salmon which was accompanied by white beans and spinach it was really good. My aperol spritz was great. There was also a lobster roll that was good, fish and chips were also quite nice. Fun location on a barge to go for a date or chill evening with friends. Skip the food, go for the drinks. Came here on a Tuesday night around 7 pm. This is a boat/barge/restaurant on a pier along the west side highway which is a really cool concept. A little hard to get to, but that's probably why it's able to exist. There's at least 2 bars that you can order at and lots of seating. Some of the seating is probably more stable than others (as in, less rocky due to waves) so I suspect there's something for everyone. However, if you do get sea sickness, avoid the seats along the water as they did tend to noticeably rock. There's a full food and beverage menu. For two people we ended up ordering a pitcher of the spicy marg and both the mezze plate + lobster roll to split. When you order food they give you a buzzer and when it goes off, you pick it up from the kitchen area. The spicy marg was pretty solid and it's always fun to get cocktails in a pitcher! The food was also pretty decent, but for $35 for a lobster roll it was heavily overpriced. I think if anything, just get an app or skip the food in favor of the drinks. It also seems due to the size of the place that this is a popular option for holding birthday parties, so something to consider! All in all a nice spot to catchup with friends and catch the sunset. read more

When restaurants change their fries from skinny to chunky I get so upset! Picture of proof they now have these gross fries which simply don't pair flavorfully with the fish. Service was fast and attentive and nice. All seating this day was on the platform not the boats along the side. For such a hot, humid day, it was super breezy and temperate. It's a nice vibe, but personally I wasn't impressed with the seasoning of the fish nor the fries for that price. The watermelon Fresca I ordered was mostly ice and watery not sweet as I inquired. FYI if you're sensitive to motion, the platform is actually not stable & staked, it was quite rocky. I couldn't stay. Yes, this is a tourist spot but for some reason on a Sunday afternoon, it was pretty empty. We had a very enjoyable lunch with the cheapest bottle of Veuve ($100 bottle) in the city! We ordered the lobster roll and the build your own burger. The burger won. Fries were pretty decent as well. And the view and setting are unbeatable. I loved how the table seating is sectioned off my trees to give privacy. And there is plenty of all types of seating for your preference. We even moved to the ledge tables on the perimeter of the area with bar stools to change it up. I would recommend this place to take visitors. Bathrooms are super clean. read more

I will be back again and again to have a couple drinks, while enjoying the breeze and views along the Hudson during the summer month. The food is a little less exciting. Wow! The location of this particular restaurant alone scores six stars all on its own. Absolutely front row seats to waterfront views and one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world for the Fourth of July. The event area consists of boats and barges moored together in the Hudson yard area on the lower west side of Manhattan. The staff was absolutely top-notch. Because we came here for a special event there were several layers of security that was exceptionally well coordinated with the NYPD and allowed us to access the venue without any delays. We actually observed the staff handle several 'ugly tourist' situations very professionally which was really impressive. Each of the different boats and barges offered different levels of service. We happened to select the one that had an open bar and buffet. We were greeted with a reception drink and light charcuterie. The food was very much Fourth of July barbecue style in spirit and included ribs (really good rub), chicken, and the most wonderful salmon and dill sauce. Sides included salads, pasta, vegetable dishes, and jalapeño cornbread that definitely hit the spot. Honestly, we were not expecting much from this buffet, but it was pretty good considering the size of the crowd that they were accommodating. Would love to return to this restaurant for a regular service to see how they do with à la cart food options. Understand this is a summertime hotspot for after work drinks which would be a great place to land! read more

The view from the top of the sun deck is really stellar. I'd say it's worth making a reservation for that alone. Next time, I probably wouldn't go for the fish and chips again, however, because they were okay but didn't rock my world, and something with more flavor (like perhaps my date's selection of Thai wings) would probably enhance the experience. Service was fine, but we had to go through at least four people who looked like hosts posted at different spots to find where we were supposed to be, and it was a little confusing. I'd give this place a 3.5 if I could. I actually liked it here. Unfortunately the food just isn't worth it. There are just way better burgers nearby for half the price. I went with a friend who had the fish tacos. She wasn't impressed either. Didn't help that the food was pricey for something that's so mid. With that out of the way, everything else was good. My friend got a margarita that was only $10. She enjoyed it. The views were great. We came here at sunset and left at night. Eating on the boat and enjoying the views made it worth it. The self service was a great touch as well. This is a good place to enjoy the ambiance and get some drinks. It made up for the mid meal. I'd like to come here again in the future. 2.5 stars After visiting and going through some of the existing reviews totally agree this is a place is for its atmosphere, riverside view. However unfortunately that is where the the best part ends. Drinks and food are definitely sub-par for the prices. After having the appetizers, we quickly realized this is a typical large restaurant spot that churns out food fairly quickly relying on frozen food. Had calamari & shrimp ceviche. Calamari arrived kinda luke warm that rapidly turned cold on the windy day on open deck(ofcourse windy weather not restaurant's fault). Shrimp ceviche lacked any depth and flavor, tried few bites but just zero flavor for a $23 dish. The spirit free drinks at 7 bucks each were mediocre, sugary and watered down. Service was good, no complaints. They also seem to unnecessarily create an fake aura about the sundeck reservation, half the seats on sundeck were empty yet they said its available via reservation only. I found reservation quickly using Resy and there were multiple spots available which never got occupied for over and hour and half I was there. Verdict - Sadly only worth visiting for wonderful riverside view/atmosphere. read more

The vibe isn't the same, the reservation seating is bizarre - and when we asked if we could sit somewhere else they said it was all packed, but then we looked at the area we wanted to sit in and it wasn't at all packed or had any reserved signs on it. $35 for a lobster roll is somewhat average to expensive, so I head hoping for a good amount of lobster, but it was so skimpy. It tasted fine, like an average run of the mill one but for $35, felt like it should have been $25. We also ordered a veggie burger , which was just falling apart, barely binded, could not eat. We kindly asked the server to switch to a regular burger, no problem, but for some reason it comes back without a bun and it was here you go and they immediately left. We had an amazing time here yesterday and couldn't have imagined a better experience with the kids. Having moved from New England, we've been sorely missing our old summer seafood haunts. The lightly battered and sweet calamari was so fresh, dipped in their homemade tartar sauce (which we asked for on the side) as an amazing start to the meal. Paired with two cold beers and a view with helicopters for the kids - what more could you ask for on a mid 70s fall day? The fried fish tacos and buttered herb corn wheels were enjoyable but the key was that junior cheesecake that perfectly summed up the entire experience. We were able to find a nice table but it did get packed the closer we got to 4pm. The fish and chips were huge ! The frying pan is a very nice venue on the water to catch a drink or catch up. There are multiple bars. The wings are decent. The burger sliders are really good and had pickles when I had them. The quesadillas were tasty. No cider on tap but they have it in the bottle. I saw watermelon slices being used for garnish with some drinks. It had been years since I was last at Frying Pan, but I found it as cool as ever! I absolutely adored the fact that you could explore various areas of the ship and its attached dinghies. The bar was the perfect outdoor venue for a beautiful, sunny day, and its views of the Hudson River could not be beat. The space was good for large or small groups, but it could get loud in some areas. They offered coolers of complementary water, which came in handy when drinking fun cocktails in the heat. I ordered a Don Julio and club soda, which was potently stocked with half a glass of tequila. I also tried their Chelsea Ranch Water, which included 21 Seeds jalapeno tequila, lime juice, and club soda; it was essentially a skinny, spicy margarita. I loved its balance of heat and freshness. From their food menu, all I had sampled were the fries, which were perfectly crisp and salty, but expensive at $7 for a small cup. Frying Pan is just such an unusual and cool seasonal venue, that I think it is an absolute must. I will say that if you are prone to sea sickness, you might want to keep your visit short, as the boat can rock a bit at times. read more
