I've taken multiple vehicles to Auto Specialties for repairs and they've always done a good job. The one nit is they have to use their own parts and won't use new parts that you bring to them. Other than than, they've done great work for me. Would recommend them. read more

I took both my vehicles to Auto Specialties for years; however, it seemed the parts would always wear out right after the warranty ended. It seems the parts were either inferior (aftermarket) parts or they were just cleaning them and pass them as repaired. For example: I had two window motor repaired twice because they stopped working; even though the replacement was the entire window motor assembly (at least what I was told). Twice ... seems a little questionable especially since the part was supposed to be OEM. I had other shops review their work and they were not impressed. I recommended them to my friends and they seemed to have the same issue. My suggestion is if they give you good service stay; however, if it seems you need to replace the replaced parts (especially after the warranty has ended) take your dollars elsewhere. read more

This place was a life saver. I attempted to replace an oil pressure sensor on my 2003 Yukon. It was going well until I started to install the new part. I bought a torque wrench from a discount tool supply store here in Tracy (... you guys know which one). Specs states to torque the new part to 26 ft-lbs. As I tightened the new oil pressure sensor, it broke in half because I never got the click from the torque wrench. Now half of the sensor is stuck to the engine. I'd also like to mention that the location of the sensor was in a very tight spot on which I had to work by feel. I ended up contacting Auto Specialties and spoke with Jason. They could have easily overcharged me because I thought that the intake manifold had to come off just to get to the part. They were able to replace it without removing the manifold and they charged me less than half of what I thought it would have costed. Thank you guys for being a genuinely honest mechanic. These guys are my new mechanic and will be servicing all my vehicles here from now on. read more

Tried Auto Specialties for the first time based on social media comments and had great results. Needed ball joints replaced and was really afraid the cost would be very high. The job was done quickly and very efficiently and price very reasonable. The customer service is excellent and they make very good use of technology for customer contact including inspection results and recommendations. Have lived here 20 years and seems like you find a good resource and then they retire, close, sell or something. Very pleased with this shop and relieved to have found a great mechanic in town. For the Ladies - you may be a bit skeptical about going there as it is a location that is a bit 'rough around the edges' but trust me you may get TV and (bad) free coffee at the dealer's but they will rip you off and give you lousy service. My husband and I have taken our cars to Auto Specialties for various reasons over the years. I really appreciate their honesty and knowledge. They always do a great job and treat their customers well. I recently brought my car in after explaining to Jason what Les Schwab in Tracy said it needed. He was able to look at it and tell me that Les Schwab flat out lied to me about broken parts and that those parts still looked basically brand new. Jason and Auto Specialties saved me hundreds of dollars in what would have been unnecessary and wrong repairs. read more

I had to have some pretty major work done to my car in 2013. The staff here is very professional and friendly. Jim (the owner) has a great and knowledgeable staff and they were sympathetic to my needs. Finding a mechanic that I could trust was hard. I have complete trust in the workmanship and skill of the guys at Auto Specialties. I won't have any work on my car done unless they do it. I have used Auto Specialties for all my vehicle repairs for almost 10 years. From the family SUV, Wife's car and even the classic restore they have done a great job. I almost hate to write this review, because I suspect the owners of this place are good people, but they have had some bad employees. But, I also feel like I should warn others. My husband's car had a transmission blow out, so we took it to Auto Specialties to be replaced, along with a few other minor repairs. The new transmission failed while he was driving on the freeway, which caused damage to other parts of the car. He took it back and they replaced it again, no charge. However, whoever worked on the car made some mistakes and it resulted in fatal damage to the engine. We had already put several thousand dollars of repairs into the car, and it was no longer worth fixing. (the mechanic was so neglectful, they actually left a pile of ALMONDS inside the engine compartment. I guess they were snacking while working!) We considered taking them to court, but since the car was only worth about 7K and it would have been difficult to prove the neglect, it didn't really make the legal fees worth it. In the end, we had to purchase ANOTHER car. My recommendation for this place is: if you only need basic maintenance like an oil change or transmission flush, this place is ok. But i would never take my vehicle there for complex repairs. read more
