Looking for that A+ auto mechanic? Yes, they still exist! Look no further! Corey at Auto-Scan is the guy! He's truly honest, has affordable pricing, and absolutely no nickel and diming on issues that do not need to be fixed. I went to Auto-Scan once before and had the motor mount replaced. No complaints. Since then, I went to Sun Automotive for a routine oil change. BIG mistake (see my review under Sun Automotive for details). I learned not to go back to those big talking auto shops and stick to the real mechanic that truly cares about getting your vehicle running safely and not hurting your wallet! Corey was able to remove the dipstick that was broken inside (after the oil change at Sun Automotive ) without having to replace the entire unit....saved me a few hundred $$. He also referred Houston Automatic Transmission for a transmission rebuild. Took about a week, but the best price in town. When your mechanic refers them, please listen. I'd give this place a 100 stars if possible. Had my daughter's SUV towed to Auto-Scan based on the Yelp reviews among other things. The vehicle had already been looked at by other shops and they determined the transmission needed rebuilding among other things. Armed with this limited info, I had already been looking at trading the unfortunately upside-down financed 240,000 mile thing and expecting to take a significant hit in the resale value. And that after spending $whatever just to get it running. Since replacing the transmission meant a $6,000 cost for this model vehicle I wanted a serious shop to take another look before moving forward. At first, Cory and team also thought the tranny was going ... until he discovered a bad motor mount during diagnostic inspection. Once that was replaced, no more "tranny bearing" noise. Apparently the engine mount caused a vibration that mimicked that bad tranny noise. Thank goodness they did a very thorough look over the entire vehicle and addressed the lesser problems first. Otherwise, I would have eventually ended up spending six grand and the negative equity unnecessarily. Cory found other relatively minor problems that led to the SUV needing to be towed in to them and successfully repaired / replaced them all such that my daughter now has pretty much a brand new ride. Cory and his guys saved me a lot of serious headaches and substantial coin. Not even close to the amount I was clutching my pearls over. Communication was also great with updates along the way over the course of a few days. Cory took care of everything and I never had to leave home and was even able to pay for everything over the phone with invoice emailed. All my daughter has to do now is Uber it over there to Cory's shop and pickup her ride. Thanks Cory. I had to get my front brake rotors turned and some maintenance, and went to Auto-Scan after reading some positive Yelp reviews. All the good reviews are true and there is a good reason they are in business for 24yrs. Natalie is easy to work with, prompt in response and courteous. They are detailed and professional in their documentation and explanation of issues & fixes. Corey's knowledge is exceptional and he first diagnosed my car and only recommended what was absolutely necessary. I even took my other car for diagnosis and he found few things but as nothing was urgent it did not need additional work. The quotes were honest, cheaper than dealer costs and fixes were done quickly. I definitely will continue to use them in future. They do not try to sell or promote to you anything. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place and the people there. Cory and Natalie the 2 people I worked with are always super friendly and actually make me feel like my business matters. I went there in July because I had fluids leaking on my garage floor and. I thought it was transmission fluid. The way my vehicle is designed it didn't appear to be leaking any. No charge for that visit. A few months later I still noticed it and it slipped a couple times and took it back. This time they were able to find a small leak. They referred me to a great transmission specialist who fixed the problem and at a lower price than the original quote. Some people might think it's bad that they missed this the first time. I don't. I had taken it to another shop in Houston maybe 2 months before and they didn't find anything either. I think it was a about timing and being able to find the issue. No matter what these people treat their clients right know about customer service. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

After taking my car to an auto shop (I will leave their name out) because I was hearing a "clicking" noise when I made sharp turns, I was told that I needed a CV shaft replaced as the "seal was broken". Also, they recommended flushing all of the cars fluids for $900. I was a bit skeptical and the price seemed high so I took to Yelp to find another mechanic for a 2nd opinion as I'm new to the area. Auto-Scan quoted me a price which was almost $100 cheaper (for the CV shaft) and they were very quick to respond. I decided to bring my car to them. They took a look at my car and informed me that there was nothing wrong with the CV shaft and it didn't need to be replaced. The noise was coming from a piece of metal that was rubbing up against another part of the car. They put some grease on it and problem solved (no charge). Also, they looked at some of the fluids and determined that only 2 needed to be changed as the others looked fine. They noticed that a belt had a slight crack but informed me that I should be fine running on it for a while. I decided to have that replaced as well. In all, I spent less getting these items completed than I would have spent just on the CV shaft at the other place. I highly recommend bringing your car or truck here as I truly felt like these guys were 100% honest and looking out for the customer and not their "bottom line". I will be bringing my wife's car here next week to have some work done. read more

I found auto scan on yelp and took my 2006 Honda Pilot in for a new alternator after reading all the positive feedback. I am very happy with my experience. Talked to randy on the phone got an estimate. Had my car towed in and received a call back with findings from Natalie. Repairs made and I picked up my car the next morning. Talked to Corey for a while about the repairs and future service that will need to be done. He was very knowledgeable about my Honda. I could tell immediately this was a very honest family. I found autoscan on Yelp a few months ago - I literally live around the corner from them. I was impressed with the reviews so we took my son's truck there for his A/C not working. They could have told us all kinds of things that were wrong - but they shot a dye through the system, couldn't find a leak and just gave us a freon charge. They said come on back in a few months and they would shoot a dye through again just to check on it. Well... life got in the way and we didn't and lo and behold, his A/C and heater stopped last week. We took it back in and he did need a new part for the heater. They then shot the dye through again (and didn't charge us!) but still not able to find a leak so another freon charge. Today... my son's check engine light came on so of course we sent him over there to check on it. He just needed a new gas cap with a new tether. Did they try to sell him an overpriced one? No! Told him to go to a dodge dealer and buy it for $10! Do yourself a favor - if you want an honest place with nice and friendly owners, try them out!!!! read more

This place may be out of the way for a few people, but is worth it in the long run. I drive about 15 to 20 miles to go to him, just cause i know he is not trying to rip me off. If something is wrong he will actually explain to you what is wrong and how he is going to fix the problem the most economical way. I took my truck in to get my brake pads changed. I dropped it off in the morning, and before lunch they updated me with an informative phone call. They told me they found that my water pump was leaking, but I would probably be able to take it to the dealership to get it fixed under warranty (they were right!). Being a single female, they could have taken advantage of me (and I would have believed them). The office manager, Natalie, was super nice and answered all of my questions. When I went to pick my truck up, Natalie had all of my paperwork ready for a quick transaction. Corey, the mechanic, gave me a run down about my brakes and told me what I should tell the dealership when I take my truck in. My experience was great! Had drivers side power window not working. Figured the motor was out. Also, had him inspect for engine noise. They called me back shortly, and actually fixed power window, it did not need new motor, but a wire was not plugged in and came loose. Only charged for labor and identified engine noise, i need to take up with delearship. Very impressed with honesty , instead of ordering new part and charging hours of labor. I just had to write a review about Randy at Auto Scan. I learned about him after my steering wheel would not turn and I was having problems with the drive mounts. I went to another shop (which I won't mention) and didn't like the demeanor or price they quoted me. As a single woman who doesn't know that much about cars I sometimes think they are trying to rip me off. They were very so aggressive and didn't really explain much so I decided to take my car elsewhere. I stopped by a business I frequent often and asked around. One of the ladies there, also single, highly recommended Randy and Auto Scan. She was right. Randy put me at ease. He checked out my car, gave me a price and told me how long he would have to keep it. He even has an agreement with Enterprise so I could get a car for the day. Turns out my car was ready later on that day, much sooner than I expected and he has a warranty on the work he did, for a really good period of time. I have been so happy with the work Auto Scan did. As many of the previous reviews posted, I was impressed with the rating and customer reviews on Yelp, so I had my car towed here from my garage. My car was not turning over to start I knew the battery was good, being a typical guy (who thinks he knows it all) I told Corey I thought it might be the starter or alternator. No, worries he said he would check it out. About an hour later received a call from Natalie/ Corey, my car is ready and running. How? Over the phone Corey educates me that the engine is just simply old and weak .... it just ceased up. He manually started once from there the key cranks it just fine. I purchased an oil change an I was sent off into the sunset. How many auto shops would have just said "yeah your alternator is bad, your starter is bad, also you need a new this and that". If you need your car fixed or serviced look no further. All my vehicles will now be turned over to Auto-Scan for service and maintenance. I've been taking my cars to Randy since 1998 when he was highly recommended to me by a coworker. He has always been honest and overly helpful and accommodating. He never suggests a repair I don't need right now; but he does let me know what needs to be handled in the next few months or year. He only uses Honda parts on my Hondas. He knows I treat my cars terribly and always saves me from the brink! Even when I lived over on the west side of Houston, I would make sure my car was towed to him when it was disabled. You cannot put a price on trust. When you find a mechanic you trust, you stick with him. His son, Cory, is gradually taking over the business, and is just as trustworthy and knowledgeable as Randy. As long as Auto-Scan is in business, they will be my only mechanic. Even my parents adore him for taking such great care of my vehicles all these years. If you are in the NW Houston area and need some car work done, I definitely recommend Auto-Scan for all of your auto-induced woes. A testimony to their awesome service: A few months ago my transmission decided to take a hike while I was cruisin' at a nice speed of 65 on the freeway. Imagine it - cruisin', cruisin', cruisin', BOOM and down to 35 in quite a few seconds and revving up to almost 4000 RPM just to try to get over to the slow lane [yes, I AM that courteous]. HOLY COW! What to do, what to do!? Call Dad, Call Husband, Call my sanity because it's going to be a big bill! We got a referral to Auto Scan through our friend, who actually worked with this guy back in the day [Come to find out, everybody and their Mama recommend this guy around us too!] So we take it over to Randy one morning; 35 MPH in morning rush hour traffic is AWESOME, the looks people give are amazingly cranky, Bless you and have a Wonderful Day!  He doesn't do transmissions, but he has a buddy who does and he took it on down and had it replaced, and when it was returned to him, he fixed another little lingering problem so it runs exceptionally well. ONE DAY LATER, I have my car back all nice and running. What shop actually works that quick!? Our bill was $1000 less than I had anticipated, Randy was upfront about the charges we might incur before working on our girl, his transmission friend was able to get the transmission in at some discount.
