Sad to have to write this review. We had a decent experience first time. Second time vehicle was not ready when we were told it would be ready. Third and final time was today. Took it in due to grinding noises. We were quoted $1214 for just the drivers side rear break pads and caliper. We will stick with Pronto Automotive, may not always be the fastest but he is honest, and very reasonable. I will say the staff at Collins are very friendly. I bought Abaddon (my Soul) into Collins last week after a hard start that morning. She had been missing a bit but we couldn't set out why. They had trouble getting it to do it - but said the ignition cylinder was broken and that Could possibly have caused my issue. As background- I drive an older Kia Soul - which someone tried to do the Tik Tok challenge on. They were thankfully interrupted, but left my steering column an absolute wreck of wires. The cover was destroyed but we were able to jury rig her so she was drivable. After several delays and my rather grumpy bf not being happy about things, I got her back today. I had had them replace the cylinder. They had mentioned bent bolts and broken tabs. I figured it was how it was held in. So imagine my shock to find the entire steering column recovered. I needed an inspection last minute (oops, procrastination strikes again!), and Google directed me here. I called ahead to confirm they could get me in and asked for a time estimate. They told me it would take about an hour, so I figured I'd be in and out before I had to pick up my son from school. Perfect, right? Fast forward an hour and a half later, I'm nervously clock-watching when an employee comes over and says I need a license plate lightbulb to pass inspection. It was a bit pricey (almost 5x multiplier) but since I was on a tight schedule, I agreed. Then, I asked if I could pay now, pick up my son, and return later for the lightbulb, and they were super accommodating. As I was about to pay, though, the guy let me know I actually didn't need the bulb to pass. I was relieved because I really needed to get moving! After I paid, they said it would take another 10 minutes for "quality control" to check my car, which made me even more late to pick up my son. Overall, though, the service was friendly and helpful, and the associates were great. The waiting area was clean and comfortable, with a nice TV and a fancy free drink machine (my oldest enjoyed the hot chocolate). A heads-up on a more realistic time estimate would've helped, but in the end, I got what I needed, and the team was courteous and thorough. They told me I needed a new engine that the head gasket was cracked they wanted to charge me 14k for a brand new engine from Chevy I said if it's just the head gasket replace it they said the truck was run down barely has 140k miles on it. Took it to another mechanic and said that was insane they were trying to take my money. Not even a LS engine costs that much. Guys make sure you know about cars before you bring it here. read more

I went for a shuddering problem on my 2018 Chevy Camaro I told them it was transmission there mechanic drove it and then said it was the motor and ran a diagnostic saying my cooling system wasn't working right turns out all it was that the fan wasn't spinning and the fuse needed to be replaced and after I picked my vehicle and took it to Chevy dealership the shuddering was the transmission and not motor. Collins auto care tried to charge me 2k to replace the cooling system when it was just a fuse so if you want to get overpriced come here they run you for your money read more

I gave 2 stars just cuz they did do the work I asked for (roadtrip inspection), but they tried using scare tactics to get me to pay for more than i needed. These guys go off a script/ practice rebuttals to get you to spend more. I was told i needed $4-6k worth of work done on my car for a roadtrip or else i "forsure wouldn't make it" .If i didnt know anything about cars, like a lot of customers that come here, i would've paid for all that! I Ended up paying $250 buying what really needed to be replaced (changed it myself), and had a PERFECT trip. I believe they will fix your car, but they're real good at getting you to spend $$$$$$$ that you don't need to. If they say they have the same car as you, ask for proof. they try to gain ur trust by saying they have the same car and then recommend expensive work on it. Just moved to this area. I found the reviews good on Collins Auto Care. So decided to go in for oil change, state inspection and front brake check. They were very kind upon walking in. They took my info and told me they will check my front brakes. I was told by another auto place they would needed changed next visit. Well they do not need changed yet. So they are very honest. The prices are good. The lobby is awesome. They even have an organic coffee option. Major bonus points for that. Love that it is clean and comfortable seating. Definitely will be my auto place for future needs. I recommend this business to others. read more

I'm always reluctant to go to car repair shops however my needed work and I needed to let go of my anxiety about car shops. My husband has gone here in the past and always had great service. I am happy to say I received the same amazing service. And so did my car. The receptionist was extremely friendly and kind. The people that worked on my car explained everything and were nice as well. I'm not saying I need the kindness, just want my car to work, however, is was a nice added addition for them to have decent customer service. Got my car back and wow. It drove so much better. It's been a few weeks now and it's still driving great. I will probably come here from now on instead of the dealership since it's right down the street and more convenient. Let me just say I have never experience customer service at an auto shop like I receive at Collins Automotive. The experience alone will make you want to be a customer for life with Collins Automotive. ******This is going to be a lengthy review.****** I've recently brought my 2011 Nissan Rogue to the dealership to get a routine oil change. Anybody know when you go to the dealership they will try to sell you everything under the sun. The dealership stated I needed to my brake fluid replace, rear brake service, cooling system fluid exchange, air intake, engine de-carbonization & injector service, rear brake service and replace cabin air filter & engine air filter. Of course, the list of items will cost a pretty penny if I had the dealership to complete the service. I have learn to always get a second opinion because the dealership is always trying to recommend service that is not needed. The service advisor did mention that I needed to get my brakes serviced right away. Since I have the lifetime warranty from Brake Check, I went to Brake Check as soon as I left the dealership. You would think this was a great idea and I wouldn't get rip off. WRONG! Brake Check didn't confirm what the dealership recommend but tried to get extra service. The lifetime warranty is not purchasing because you will always end up paying for some type of service. This is when I started my search for mechanics on yelp. I found Collins Automotive and saw the auto shop did not have one bad review. You might think if the auto shop does not have one bad review then it must be to good to be true. Believe me it is TRUE. Mike (the owner) is a reputable, honorable and caring mechanic. I spoke with Mike, 10/2 around 5:30 pm and explain what was needed for my vehicle. While we were discussing he stated 'it sounds like you went to the dealership and the dealership listed items you might or might not need.' Mike offered to do a 15 minute inspection to see exactly what was wrong with my vehicle. He asked if I could bring the vehicle by same day but unfortunately I could not. So I schedule an appointment at 8:30 the next day. The next day brought my vehicle to the shop. Did I mention she was about 30 minutes late for the scheduled appointment and Mike still honor the appointment once she arrived. Not only was the inspection thorough, Mike provided pictures via email and explain each email in detail since I was not at the shop. He took his time and explain what was essential and non-essential. When he provided the quote it was reasonable and fair. If you think the customer service ended with the quote than you would be mistaken. Mike went above and beyond customer service when he provided transportation for my mother. He drove my mother home and picked her up once my truck was ready. I have never seen an auto shop provide go above and beyond for their customers and provide transportation free of charge. I was already impress with the customer service provided on the phone and explanation of the work. Providing my mother transportation from and to the shop was the icing on the cake. The experience has made me a customer for life. FYI - I've received a follow up call on Friday to see how my vehicle was performing. If you want excellent customer service, honorable and reputable mechanic, reasonable pricing and peace of mind knowing your mechanic is not trying to take advantage of you. took my car , a nisssan altima that needed a transmission to this facility. first they verified i had a warranty, which i did and that's when the screwing began! the warranty covered 5000.00 to replace. this price included the labor and part (brand new), they said they had to charge me an additonal 1900.00 because of charges car shield would not cover. charges like, shop supplies, transmission fluid, cleaning the line, programming, ect. well to make a long story short, i found another shop to do it for what the car shield was paying and told them i no longer needed their services. those bastards would not let the tow truck driver remove my vehicle from their property without paying 428.13! i would not recommend them to anyone unless you like receiving a good sticking without vaseline! oh, they come off really pleasant and honest but they aren't. i priced the parts from the dealership under our commercial account and those jokers were charging 200% more than list price! don't walk, run as fast as you can!!!! read more

I recently moved to Houston and went to Collins Automotive based on the 5/6/14 review from Amanda M. Like her, I received courteous service from professionals who patiently explained the problems with my vehicle. They only fixed what needed to be fixed, despite two dealership estimates that claimed more extensive repairs were necessary. Mike (the owner) even found an exhaust pipe issue that the two dealerships had missed! Even though he could've charged for this and I wouldn't have been the wiser, he suggested I get those repairs at an exhaust pipe specialty shop to save money. Awesome, sexism-free service. I learned the hard and expensive way ,( at other Houston Shops), that it's not very often you find a mechanic that treats you like family, and your vehicle like its his own car.
