Sad to have to write this review. We had a decent experience first time. Second time vehicle was not ready when we were told it would be ready. Third and final time was today. Took it in due to grinding noises. We were quoted $1214 for just the drivers side rear break pads and caliper. We will stick with Pronto Automotive, may not always be the fastest but he is honest, and very reasonable. I will say the staff at Collins are very friendly. Update: Only brake pads needed to be replaced total out the door at the other place $159.29 read more

I bought Abaddon (my Soul) into Collins last week after a hard start that morning. She had been missing a bit but we couldn't set out why. They had trouble getting it to do it - but said the ignition cylinder was broken and that Could possibly have caused my issue. As background- I drive an older Kia Soul - which someone tried to do the Tik Tok challenge on. They were thankfully interrupted, but left my steering column an absolute wreck of wires. The cover was destroyed but we were able to jury rig her so she was drivable. After several delays and my rather grumpy bf not being happy about things, I got her back today. I had had them replace the cylinder. They had mentioned bent bolts and broken tabs. I figured it was how it was held in. So imagine my shock to find the entire steering column recovered. These guys...are just so kind. Yes it's a garage and yah it costs money, but they are good guys. And that's pretty rare in the industry, read more

I needed an inspection last minute (oops, procrastination strikes again!), and Google directed me here. I called ahead to confirm they could get me in and asked for a time estimate. They told me it would take about an hour, so I figured I'd be in and out before I had to pick up my son from school. Perfect, right? Fast forward an hour and a half later, I'm nervously clock-watching when an employee comes over and says I need a license plate lightbulb to pass inspection. It was a bit pricey (almost 5x multiplier) but since I was on a tight schedule, I agreed. Then, I asked if I could pay now, pick up my son, and return later for the lightbulb, and they were super accommodating. As I was about to pay, though, the guy let me know I actually didn't need the bulb to pass. I was relieved because I really needed to get moving! After I paid, they said it would take another 10 minutes for "quality control" to check my car, which made me even more late to pick up my son. Overall, though, the service was friendly and helpful, and the associates were great. The waiting area was clean and comfortable, with a nice TV and a fancy free drink machine (my oldest enjoyed the hot chocolate). A heads-up on a more realistic time estimate would've helped, but in the end, I got what I needed, and the team was courteous and thorough. I'd come back here--just with a bit more wiggle room in my schedule next time! read more

I feel like this place chooses and picks who they are willing to do work for and anytime you come in with a coupon it seems like they don't want to help. 10/10 won't recommend the dude in the front is kind of nasty and the service doesn't seem friendly at all. Don't waist your time at this place. read more

amazing service guy at the counter was nice and they had free coffee and my car is running smooth now

Quality service is over the top. They carefully accommodate their customers. The staff are very professional.

Absolutely the only mechanic shop I trust around Houston, it's a huge relief to be able to take your vehicle somewhere that will be honest with you, the entire team is focused on professionalism, communication and keeping customers returning for service from good experiences. read more

They told me I needed a new engine that the head gasket was cracked they wanted to charge me 14k for a brand new engine from Chevy I said if it's just the head gasket replace it they said the truck was run down barely has 140k miles on it. Took it to another mechanic and said that was insane they were trying to take my money. Not even a LS engine costs that much. Guys make sure you know about cars before you bring it here. read more

I went for a shuddering problem on my 2018 Chevy Camaro I told them it was transmission there mechanic drove it and then said it was the motor and ran a diagnostic saying my cooling system wasn't working right turns out all it was that the fan wasn't spinning and the fuse needed to be replaced and after I picked my vehicle and took it to Chevy dealership the shuddering was the transmission and not motor. Collins auto care tried to charge me 2k to replace the cooling system when it was just a fuse so if you want to get overpriced come here they run you for your money read more

Just moved to this area. I found the reviews good on Collins Auto Care. So decided to go in for oil change, state inspection and front brake check. They were very kind upon walking in. They took my info and told me they will check my front brakes. I was told by another auto place they would needed changed next visit. Well they do not need changed yet. So they are very honest. The prices are good. The lobby is awesome. They even have an organic coffee option. Major bonus points for that. Love that it is clean and comfortable seating. Definitely will be my auto place for future needs. I recommend this business to others. read more

I gave 2 stars just cuz they did do the work I asked for (roadtrip inspection), but they tried using scare tactics to get me to pay for more than i needed. These guys go off a script/ practice rebuttals to get you to spend more. I was told i needed $4-6k worth of work done on my car for a roadtrip or else i "forsure wouldn't make it" .If i didnt know anything about cars, like a lot of customers that come here, i would've paid for all that! I Ended up paying $250 buying what really needed to be replaced (changed it myself), and had a PERFECT trip. I believe they will fix your car, but they're real good at getting you to spend $$$$$$$ that you don't need to. If they say they have the same car as you, ask for proof. they try to gain ur trust by saying they have the same car and then recommend expensive work on it. Thank you Keenan and Brian for trying to suck me dry. The roadtrip went great! read more

I'm always reluctant to go to car repair shops however my needed work and I needed to let go of my anxiety about car shops. My husband has gone here in the past and always had great service. I am happy to say I received the same amazing service. And so did my car. The receptionist was extremely friendly and kind. The people that worked on my car explained everything and were nice as well. I'm not saying I need the kindness, just want my car to work, however, is was a nice added addition for them to have decent customer service. Got my car back and wow. It drove so much better. It's been a few weeks now and it's still driving great. I will probably come here from now on instead of the dealership since it's right down the street and more convenient. Also if needed, they can give you a ride when you drop off your car. Probably not to Lubbock Texas or anything like. read more

Collins was recommended by a friend. They got my Land Rover Discovery right in for regular service. They are honest, knowledgeable and friendly. They get it done right. Prices are reasonable. Thankful for Collins! read more

Collins Auto Care - The owner Mike Collins. Friendly and honest! - Auto Repair Near Me - Houston, Texas

Took car in to have brakes checked. No problem at all. Then they decided that they "had to check over the entire vehicle." Gave us an estimate of almost $3,500 -- need new springs (all of them), need alignment and serpentine belt plus battery service. Took car to Subaru dealer for a second opinion. Guess what? Nothing at all needs to be done. Husband was previously overcharged for a new battery as well. You may believe you are getting good service when you are actually being ripped off. read more

Mike is a great guy and and awesome mechanic. He does meticulous work at a fair price. Collins Automotive is a new name for Mike's new location with service for all types of vehicles. F.I.S.T. racing is Mike's high performance race shop, where he builds, repairs, and tunes high performance street racers. F.I.S.T. became so popular, that the old shop just wasn't big enough anymore, so he moved to a better location. Now he can do more performance work, and service the family cars too. You get more than 10 years of high performance experience, great service and convenient location all at an affordable price, no matter what you drive. read more

I can't say enough about this place. Being one of those people who does their own work and gets anxiety about others touching their "high maintenance toys" I still confidentially come here. Mike has been servicing my vehicles for years, long before the true Collins Automotive came to be. He cares about the people who come to him and remembers them all. His knowledge and desire to get things done the right way never changes. If you get that queezy feeling when its time to have your car worked on, then check out Collins Automotive. You will leave happy and confident that other parts of your car you did not ask about were looked over. This really is that true independent shop you like to come back to, over and over. read more

I initially visited a GM dealership but was suspicious of their quote. Went to Yelp looking for a honest repair shop. I found Collins Automotive and boy am I happy. A long story short...they saved me about $750.00 for work which GM recommended but turns out was unnecessary. Thanks Collins! read more

My Husband has been being his vehicles to Mike for a VERY LONG TIME! Mike and his team are extremely helpful and honest when it comes to what your vehicle really needs, they don't push for you to fix things that don't need repair just to make a buck off you. They recently under went a makeover in the office so it's nice and comfortable if you are waiting on a Oil Change or State Inspection. Bottom line... if you want your car done right the first time,... bring it to Collins Automotive read more

Let me just say I have never experience customer service at an auto shop like I receive at Collins Automotive. The experience alone will make you want to be a customer for life with Collins Automotive. ******This is going to be a lengthy review.****** I've recently brought my 2011 Nissan Rogue to the dealership to get a routine oil change. Anybody know when you go to the dealership they will try to sell you everything under the sun. The dealership stated I needed to my brake fluid replace, rear brake service, cooling system fluid exchange, air intake, engine de-carbonization & injector service, rear brake service and replace cabin air filter & engine air filter. Of course, the list of items will cost a pretty penny if I had the dealership to complete the service. I have learn to always get a second opinion because the dealership is always trying to recommend service that is not needed. The service advisor did mention that I needed to get my brakes serviced right away. Since I have the lifetime warranty from Brake Check, I went to Brake Check as soon as I left the dealership. You would think this was a great idea and I wouldn't get rip off. WRONG! Brake Check didn't confirm what the dealership recommend but tried to get extra service. The lifetime warranty is not purchasing because you will always end up paying for some type of service. This is when I started my search for mechanics on yelp. I found Collins Automotive and saw the auto shop did not have one bad review. You might think if the auto shop does not have one bad review then it must be to good to be true. Believe me it is TRUE. Mike (the owner) is a reputable, honorable and caring mechanic. I spoke with Mike, 10/2 around 5:30 pm and explain what was needed for my vehicle. While we were discussing he stated 'it sounds like you went to the dealership and the dealership listed items you might or might not need.' Mike offered to do a 15 minute inspection to see exactly what was wrong with my vehicle. He asked if I could bring the vehicle by same day but unfortunately I could not. So I schedule an appointment at 8:30 the next day. The next day brought my vehicle to the shop. Did I mention she was about 30 minutes late for the scheduled appointment and Mike still honor the appointment once she arrived. Not only was the inspection thorough, Mike provided pictures via email and explain each email in detail since I was not at the shop. He took his time and explain what was essential and non-essential. When he provided the quote it was reasonable and fair. If you think the customer service ended with the quote than you would be mistaken. Mike went above and beyond customer service when he provided transportation for my mother. He drove my mother home and picked her up once my truck was ready. I have never seen an auto shop provide go above and beyond for their customers and provide transportation free of charge. I was already impress with the customer service provided on the phone and explanation of the work. Providing my mother transportation from and to the shop was the icing on the cake. The experience has made me a customer for life. FYI - I've received a follow up call on Friday to see how my vehicle was performing. If you want excellent customer service, honorable and reputable mechanic, reasonable pricing and peace of mind knowing your mechanic is not trying to take advantage of you. Please go to Collins Automotive and you will not be disappointed because they stand by their motto: So Confident In The Quality Of Our Service, We Put Our Name On It! read more

We couldn't be more satisfied with their honesty, expertise and timeliness. They are very forth-right with their assessment and associated costs. We highly recommend Collins Automotive. Pam and Louis S. read more

took my car , a nisssan altima that needed a transmission to this facility. first they verified i had a warranty, which i did and that's when the screwing began! the warranty covered 5000.00 to replace. this price included the labor and part (brand new), they said they had to charge me an additonal 1900.00 because of charges car shield would not cover. charges like, shop supplies, transmission fluid, cleaning the line, programming, ect. well to make a long story short, i found another shop to do it for what the car shield was paying and told them i no longer needed their services. those bastards would not let the tow truck driver remove my vehicle from their property without paying 428.13! i would not recommend them to anyone unless you like receiving a good sticking without vaseline! oh, they come off really pleasant and honest but they aren't. i priced the parts from the dealership under our commercial account and those jokers were charging 200% more than list price! don't walk, run as fast as you can!!!! read more

I've been using Yelp for years and I've never left a review before, but I felt compelled to leave one today because of the quality service I received. I recently moved to Houston and went to Collins Automotive based on the 5/6/14 review from Amanda M. Like her, I received courteous service from professionals who patiently explained the problems with my vehicle. They only fixed what needed to be fixed, despite two dealership estimates that claimed more extensive repairs were necessary. Mike (the owner) even found an exhaust pipe issue that the two dealerships had missed! Even though he could've charged for this and I wouldn't have been the wiser, he suggested I get those repairs at an exhaust pipe specialty shop to save money. Awesome, sexism-free service. I've found my new mechanic. Thank you, Collins Automotive! read more

My check engine light was on and I took my vehicle to get it checked out. I drive a 2011 Nissan Rogue. I was in and out within 45 minutes. I have been treated like a dumb blonde by mechanics before and this was definitely NOT the case. The guys here were very courteous and great at explaining stuff. I didnt have any work done (computer just needed to be updated), but I left with a lot of information. I will definitely go here again!! Thanks read more

Great service and friendly staff members. They will not rip you off! Very honest quality service. I highly recommend them.

Went here to get broken car checked. They said battery was the problem, replaced it. Charged 60 for labor but didnt offer a credit for the used battery. Ended up being 190 total read more

I have know Mike at Collins Automotive for years and have been utilizing his wealth of knowledge since he had the old shop at F.I.S.T. racing. I learned the hard and expensive way ,( at other Houston Shops), that it's not very often you find a mechanic that treats you like family, and your vehicle like its his own car. Mike does not do anything halfway but does the job the right way. He is not comfortable with taking shortcuts that sacrifice quality for cost but will tell you where it might be acceptable to cut corners to save money at minimal risk. He also won't do unecessary work just to make a profit. In short if you want an honest and fair mechanic that you can trust to do the BEST work at a more than fair price..Look no further than Mike Collins at Collins Automotive. read more

I was desperately looking for a place to get my state inspection, and I decided to stop by this place! They were so helpful, and honest. Nowadays is not easy to find customer service like theirs. read more

Great shop with great people. I'm not price savvy auto repair wise, but I always was treated right. All services were explained thoroughly before work was done and they are all too happy to educate you on the how's and why's of what they are about to do... Big Mike and his right hand man Tim are not your average grease monkeys. Bonus: Tim seems to have specialized knowledge with Honda's so take it here if you've got an issue with yours.
