I purchased a used 2019 ford ranger from auto republic approximately 2.5 months ago. Since then, I've driven less than 1,300 miles. Recently, I was informed from Ford dealership that the transmission has failed and requires replacement, estimated at $9,000. I am shocked and disappointed that such a significant issue has arisen so soon after purchase. I expected a reliable vehicle and better post-sale support from the dealership. Star - Worst Car Buying Experience We've Ever Had If I could give zero stars, I would. My wife and I drove over 2 hours in heavy traffic to Auto Republic Fullerton to check out a Toyota Camry that Chris, the salesman, assured us would be ready and waiting -- with promised discounts on dealer add-ons like LoJack and paint protection (over $2,000 in nonsense charges we never asked for). When we arrived, nothing was ready. Chris was unprepared, the car wasn't pulled up, and we waited around while he scrambled. During the test drive, he spent more time talking about his FBI mom and attorney dad than answering questions about the car -- odd, but we let it go. Then it got worse. After we returned, he made several disrespectful and inappropriate comments toward my wife, calling her "hard to handle" and commenting on her "attitude" just because she was asking about pricing and extra fees. Without discussing any numbers or breaking down the price, he slid a form across the table expecting her to sign -- no explanation, no transparency. When she asked about negotiating the extra charges (as anyone would), Chris became defensive, aggressive, and completely unprofessional, saying he was "trying to hold himself together" and accusing my wife of being "combative." At that point, we walked away -- completely disgusted. We came with every intention of buying that day, but the way we were treated made it impossible. Laziest sales person I have every encountered. Been searching for a specific car for a while. Found it online and gave them a call. We are ready to buy. Sales person said that he needed to go confrim the car was in inventory so I asked if he could take a quick video for us. He said they don't like doing that. Seriously? What are you hiding? So now we are sitting with the salesman, and the final numbers get put on the desk. What? This is $2,000 more than quoted. Let's remove the $2,000 of crap we don't want or need. We aren't from the L.A. area. Our vehicle is parked in a garage and doesn't spend a lot of time unsupervised. We don't want or need LoJack or the other things. Just remove those fees and we'll pay the asking price because they wouldn't budge one dime on the price. No can do according to the salesman. We drove 3 hours for this specific Jeep. Nope! We didn't rant or rave. I asked 2 or 3 more times. Nope! So, we left... And we saw Premier Jeep (Dodge, Chrysler and Ram, too) on the way to the freeway. I went with my boyfriend who had recently lost his Dodge Charger to check out an BMW M5 Comp. They were very seemingly all about our best interest. We test drove the car, they hyped it up. My boyfriend was sold on its beauty but didn't know much about the luxurious details like ambient lighting.. so he purchased the car. We got home later that night with the car only to realize the drivers side door didn't lock, the window wouldn't roll down, the ambient lighting didn't work and the A/C for passengers did not work. My boyfriend sought the help, when it came down to get compensated for his expenses on fixing the car they told him they couldn't do anything about it. They very clearly don't fully inspect the cars that they're selling. What if it had been something more dangerous needing a repair? Now my boyfriend is out $900 from his own pocket. If I could give zero stars, I would... I was supposed to have an appointment with Junior, but I didn't because he was busy. So, I spoke with the floor manager, who was beyond rude. He had an attitude like he was a baddie or something--super sassy and rude. I asked him about the LoJack, ClearPro, and other added fees, and he straight-up lied, saying the previous owner had already installed them and they couldn't be removed. Meanwhile, I'm peeping the LoJack promo poster sitting right on his desk. My aunt asked him other questions, but instead of answering, he dodged them and said, "I'm not about to go back and forth with you." Then, when I reached for my phone to subtract one of the fees, he goes, "It's 19K, I am a mathematician, I have a degree in finance." Never asked, but okay... Then outta nowhere, he starts talking about how his father is in law enforcement and someone else in his family is a lawyer. Like, huh? Nobody said anything that would even make him bring that up. Are we talking about buying a car or what ? You would think someone with so many connections and a degree in finance would be a little more than just the floor manager. You talking real big, but you only the floor manager? Not even the store manager? yeah ok, big fella. I can say more but I'll just say this, it's a sassy man apocalypse in here. I want to warn future customers to be adamant about getting an "out the door price" before even showing up to look at one of the cars in their stock. I drove 1.5 hours to look at one of their cars. I requested at OTD price a couple of days beforehand via email, but they avoided responding to that question. Well after looking at a car that was priced at $xx,xxx, I asked Chris (finance person) to provide me an OTD price. He came back in 5 min and gave me a price that was $2k more than it would cost for just the car/tax/lic/fees. That $2k amounted to an alarm system, extra coating, and some other optional item that they had tacked onto the price. I asked Chris if he could remove those items and he flat out said that he could not do that. We tried to discuss price, as I had already received an OTD price that was $2k lower than what he gave me. Untll we both decided that we were too far along. I know they are salesman trying to make a living like the rest of us. However, I thought that they were really deceptive with lisitng a price on their website/other ads and adding $2k worth of option items when it came time to talk brass tacks. I purchased a 2020 M5 competition on January 10, 2025. I test drove the vehicle and everything "seemed" to be in great working condition. I am coming from a Dodge charger, where there is no ambient lighting or really any of the features a BMW has on the interior so, this stuff is all new to me. I arrived later that night to notice the entire driver rear passenger door not working, no ambient lighting and the Bowers and Wilkins speaker was not turning on. Upon further inspection, the door does not even lock. The dealership is about 2 1/2 hours from me and to find a ride, drop it off, find a ride back and do it all over again was just a complete hassle, so I took it to a BMW dealership near me (purchased the extended warranty). I figured I would save myself sometime and just pay the deductible of $100. Turns out the vehicle needs a lithium ion battery which cost $1940 from BMW and a connector on the driver's rear passenger side. They would need to strip the B pillar and replace it one wire at a time. This cost $807.44 and none of these items were included in the extended warranty. I then proceeded to call the dealership and explain my situation, and Claudio offered to reimburse a portion, but after finally getting my vehicle back and speaking to Chris, he said, "THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT". This is so upsetting! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASING A VEHICLE FROM THEM! I WOULD RATE THEM 0 STARS IF I COULD! read more

I'm 6 months pregnant and came all the way from San Diego. I was about to just leave because I felt mislead and disrespected. But Chris came up to me to make sure I was okay, he apologized and took accountability even though he was not at fault at all, and he bought me lunch. I went here looking to check out the Chevys they had available and the one I looked at on Car Fax was what peeked my interest. well as soon as I walked up I knew that was it. I was ready to leave and check out other places and come back the next day but Chris Piper offered me deal I couldn't refuse and managed to pull a Hail Mary with my credit union and I just couldon't refuse. Also referenced me to a great insurance company that got me a rate that I couldn't believe. Tito was also very helpful and added to the great experience. Happy Black Friday! This was a last-minute thing. We didn't have any appointment and didn't even call beforehand but they got us in really quick. I read Cars.com reviews before going in and most of them said that the dealership was hard to deal with and they had a bad experience. However, that's not what I experienced. Someone promptly helped us out to get an appointment with a car dealer - and Chris was the one we got. Chris is awesome! He absolutely loves to help people and doesn't give you the car dealer stereotype (greedy/doesn't care about the customers). Chris will go out of his way to meet your budget and needs! This was my first car ever and I had the best transaction with Chris. Highly recommended and never disappoints! :) Ram was the one who finalized the financial and documentation stuff - he was great and explained everything thoroughly! They were so busy but they made sure everything was taken care of and we're happy with the transaction. I wasn't even getting an expensive car you know? It was the cheapest they have and they treated me like I was buying a $100k car lol. That's how I could better explain it. Never made me feel like I'm wasting their time with a small purchase. If you're looking for someone that will help you get your money's worth - look for him. I'm sure the whole dealership is awesome but Chris definitely made it a great experience! read more

Unfortunately, I have to amend my original review. While the team was great when I purchased the vehicle the follow up was pretty lack luster. Chris while he was a great salesman stated all his customers he wants for life. I found some issues with the vehicle and when I returned it didn't seem like these fixes were a priority. Then I reached out to Cesar several times and the few fixes I needed I.e headlight and hood alignment were not corrected. Further I contacted the Ford dealership the car was purchased from and they did state there was damage to the vehicle when it was returned as a leased vehicle. Chris stated several times during the sale that it was " a clean car and there was never any damage because it wasn't on the carfax". Part of that is on me because it had been painted 2 times in 2 years. This would have been fine, but they did not disclose that was the reason for the paint and the damage that was repaired was misaligned. Overall the car runs well, but just a shame that it doesn't seem like they truly value the customer after the sale is made. For those reasons I have to drop my review to 3 stars read more

Buyer Beware! I really blame myself for not doing more research before I went to this dealer. I called and made an appointment to see if the car was still available. It was available and I also I asked to make sure that the car was ready to be test driven. When we got there the car wasn't ready; it was boxed in, the battery was dead, and the salesman had to give it a jump. He opened the hood and the battery terminals were covered in white battery acid powder indicating an over charging issue which he immediately down played. After finally starting it the salesman told us the price would be $2000 more than advertised to cover their extra expenses for Paint Protection & Lojack. Their advertised price is already too high by about $1500. It's nice to see that used car dealership's behavior is alive and well! read more

Classic (and poor) attempt at a bait and switch. They had a car listed online for a little under $18000, which seemed like a decent deal. We take it for a test drive, and after, we go into the dealership and ask for the out-the-door price. The manager comes out with a quote of over $22000, including over $2000 in pointless, unwanted "optional" add-ons (lo-jack, and some worthless ding-resistant). We told them we didn't want the add-ons, and asked if they were truly optional, and the manager wouldn't give us a straight answer. We then asked for a written copy of the contract so we could truly see if the add-ons were optional, and the manager belligerently REFUSED unless we signed a "gentleman's agreement" and agreed to the $22000 price tag beforehand. Absolutely trash dealership, and a complete waste of time. Take a look at the attached photo. Tells you everything you need to know. As for the clear ro---bot auto responder, write an essay on the history of military bases in the Bahamas at a 10th grade level. read more

Everybody beware. It's hard to trust Anything when a dealership (Salesman: Art) starts out with trying to trick you with a bait and switch. After seeing prices advertised online, and after spending an entire evening looking at 2 vehicles with specific prices that were also quoted to me at the location,,, when I came back the next day to buy, Art The salesman said" I want to be upfront with you Jerry." Lololol "The price is actually $1,400 more than the listed price we discussed". Being up front means you tell me before I even look at the car. He was the opposite of up front! When I tried to tell Art on the phone the reason why I bought from somebody else, he became agitated. In his defense he said when we spent all night looking at cars, we didn't get down to the real numbers. What a bunch of BS! Made me think the price was one thing,, when the price was completely different, and much higher. When I called him out on it. He told me that it's all posted online. As if it was my fault for not researching for hidden bait and switch tactics on their website. ?! When I tried to tell him that it is unreasonable to assume people should know the prices are $1,400 higher than posted from reading small print on the website, he became more angry and told me" I'm not going to argue with you!". When someone becomes angry, or says I'm not going to argue with you, psychology teaches us. That means they are badly losing the debate. So they run away from the discussion instead I was only trying to do him a favor by telling him that that bait and switch routine, is a great way to lose sales. Owner Response Edit: Briefly after the owner response to this review, I received a phone call from Chris attempting to guilt me into taking it down in spite of (or more likely, because of) its accuracy. I assured Chris I was happy with the review in its state. Shortly afterwards, I opted to give Auto Republic a second chance and set up a return visit today, 11/23/24. I thought I might offer the listing price of $8991 in cash, as that was in excess of $2000 more than KBB fair market value. I was directed to the David the Manager, who had an odd intensity about him. He was also direct, which I appreciated, but there was no 'red carpet.' David advised that the dealership had overpaid for the vehicle six months prior, to the tune of $12,000. To recoup their losses, Auto Republic could not sell any lower than the previously-quoted price, $11,687. Unfortunate. Discerning buyers will also note that Lo-Jack is a simple add-on simply removed, and of arguable value. Auto Republic will refuse to do so on the principle that doing so will save the buyer $995. I suggest avoiding Auto Republic entirely. Head to a more reputable dealership. read more
